1:26 it should be pointed out that artists like these don't ask these prices (not because these two are dead) it's the art market at inflates the prices. The highest bidder wins, art collectors are fighting over art with high reputation. And when auctioned for a high price the reputation increases even more, making the prices skyrocket. It's a very strange culture this art collecor scene, many artists dispise it.
Yup that's why Banksy shredded his painting at auction (ironically probably making it worth more). He doesn't get any of the millions that come from his pieces that go to auction.
Jazza: "Honey, guess what! I just made a lot of money by selling some junk on eBay claiming it was 'art'." His wife: "Oh, that's great. But wait till you see the sculpture _I_ just found on eBay. It's like made for you..."
I am assuming we can fill in what Jazza's response should be, so here goes: Jazza: It sold for $4800 on e-bay Doctor: Here's your anti-psychotic prescription Jazza: But it did, I have evidence Doctor: See you next week Jazza: Thanks for posting. No Jazzas were meant to be harmed in this dialogue.
Who else thinks he should bring back his random character designs? Those could each go for about $60M easy. (In all seriousness I hope he brings them back)

'ive done them' it's a been there, done that type of thing for him, same reason he doesn't make tutorials anymore. So I don't expect them to come back unless he finds a really strange way to get the themes of the character and even then it would come back as a series on his channel again. Agreed, looked pretty professional and a good composition, especially next to some of the other unique sculptures.
As an art student who pays way to much to go to school every year, I can confirm that this is exactly how we make art. By grabbing random shit, duck taping, spray painting, and selling it like it's some piece that's meant to be worshiped.
It’s an investment. You buy it for 10 millions and after a couple of years you sell it for 20. No one actually buying these things gives any value to anything even remotely related to art.
The reason why “fine art” is so expensive is because rich people need to store their money without getting taxes put on them. Those paintings are bank accounts that don’t get taxed.
Oooo I like your cynicism. I always thought it was to show off to their rich community just how rich, richer than others, and therefore how much “better” 🙄 they are.
Art work is still a tangible asset.. And is typically taxed under the property tax laws. California has art tax exemption laws when the work is publicly displayed aka on lone to a museum.
Yes, but wouldn't you have to buy it with post-tax dollars (unless a corporation is buying it)? AND, if you sold the painting for more than what it is worth, I'm assuming you would pay capital gains tax on the sale. I dunno the specifics though. Just guessing.
@@Lux07s i never said anything about the monetary aspect of it, just the 'artwork' itself. i cannot, for the life of me, justify seeing two differently-colored rectangles be claimed as art. having access to paint and a canvas doesn't make you an artist or a painter.

I had a teacher who absolutely PRAISED Mark Rothko and we had to write stories based on his art pieces. The art students were not impressed. AKA most of the class because it was an art school. Even the dancers were confused.
You may not like him or don't understand the price point as I don't, but there are reasons why it got to that state forget about the ridiculous price point and ask yourself why is it valuable , what is the meaning not in the painting itself or the colors, but what does it mean in the time context it was creating, why it got to that point, can it be a commentary about it's time or art itself? I recommend a book if you haven't read, that summarizes well how we got here, On the Museums Ruin by Douglas Crimp
@@jackieenois I think it's the painting process that makes Rothko's work valuable. Lots of hours of painting (surprisingly) and a lot of layers of paint. Apparently there was a reflective/meditative state he got into when painting each one, and that seems to be why people go for his work. Probably context playing a part as well, though, I don't know
Some it’s the value... some richer people are more I got this for $80 million so everyone they know sees the value and accepts it’s good. It’s all weird to me but it’s the way it works sometimes.

@@Heybuditsme exactly! I loved that stunt. It was ridiculous and great.

Who else thinks he should bring back his random character designs? Those could each go for about $60M easy. (In all seriousness I hope he brings them back)
That is why I watch Jazza. Thos are my favorite videos he's ever done.
he's said several times on his vlog channel he's probably not going to go back to them as in his words. 'ive done them' it's a been there, done that type of thing for him, same reason he doesn't make tutorials anymore. So I don't expect them to come back unless he finds a really strange way to get the themes of the character and even then it would come back as a series on his channel again. I do miss them but I understand where he's coming from.
I wish he would do tutorials on how he creates them. I'm really stuck on it and can't seem to find anyone explaining the thought process of coming up with ideas.

Great idea but I don't think that is legal
Don't know if it's illegal actually, but I think it would be detrimental to the original artist, it would be like saying "you're art is worthless, look how it is done correctly", maybe not so harsh, but still not cool.
@@blablablablab888 How is it illegal? You purchased the art work so you have every right to alter it. According to the visual artists rights act from 1990.

He was joking until he got to the microphone and then his attitude shifted. He got into the FLOW and had to create. My observation and opinion.
He started to get into to it. I was actually surprised how long it took him to put together and it looked like he was genuinely having fun. I would agree that it seemed to have started when he picked up the microphone. I love the tripod, probably the most expensive and useful piece of the whole project. Go Jazza! Great job, Mate! Agreed, looked pretty professional and a good composition, especially next to some of the other unique sculptures.
When I first started painting I would make paintings like this because I sucked and it was easy to do. These guys are definitely a scam.
As an art student who pays way to much to go to school every year, I can confirm that this is exactly how we make art. By grabbing random shit, duck taping, spray painting, and selling it like it's some piece that's meant to be worshiped.
I'm guessing that people that pay that much for a simple paintings are probably paying for the name?

The reason why “fine art” is so expensive is because rich people need to store their money without getting taxes put on them. Those paintings are bank accounts that don’t get taxed.
But you would think they would go for something that actually looks decent
Oooo I like your cynicism. I always thought it was to show off to their rich community just how rich, richer than others, and therefore how much “better” 🙄 they are.
😮😮I never knew that?!? That is actually smart if you got lots of money
Selling these things as “art” is an art of itself

@@Lux07s i never said anything about the monetary aspect of it, just the 'artwork' itself. i cannot, for the life of me, justify seeing two differently-colored rectangles be claimed as art. having access to paint and a canvas doesn't make you an artist or a painter.

@@jackieenois haha postmodernism is cool amirite

Lucas Dias Art can be valuable without being overpriced
@@jackieenois I think it's the painting process that makes Rothko's work valuable. Lots of hours of painting (surprisingly) and a lot of layers of paint.
Apparently there was a reflective/meditative state he got into when painting each one, and that seems to be why people go for his work. Probably context playing a part as well, though, I don't know
