- An interview with Reg Presley and Chris Britton of The Troggs about their hit song Love Is All Around and Wet Wet Wet's cover of it, shown on The One Show - Best of Britain (from Loch Lomond) in June 2012. RIP, Reg (4 Feb 2013).
Being from the 60's myself, I remember the Troggs original versions, and must have gotten too busy later on, because I had never heard of the Wet Wet Wet version until just recently, and they did a bang up version recording it. This interview with Reg Presley and Chris Britton was just awesome, nice to hear the stories behind the songs. Ohhhh..... love this music so much!
First song I ever learned all the way through on a Guitar, back in them Days.
Covered it at an Open Mic Night when The guy I was supposed to be supporting was unable to show up.
But I was unaware of the Wet Guys hits cause I was too busy listening to the original version.
Reg is the Man.....
Like the Easybeats, the AC-DC Dudes seemed like wannabes......
The Original versions always seems to endure,
for some reason.....
"I just wonder if it will be there in 20 years time...I won't be, but I wonder if it will carry on." Found myself tearing up a bit to hear Reg say that. Reg, it's still carrying on! RIP
Also with Billy Mack, in which the Birth of Christ represents love, in the context of a film about love designed after 9/11 to remind people that planes deliver love as well as death... Holy Spirit at work.
Beautiful music never dies! "Love is all around" is a timeless song.
Reg will never be forgotten! It was his song !
His and that of the beloved ever-active, art-inspiring Holy Spirit, as bringer of meaning, love, truth, healing, forgiveness and insight...
Love this little slice of rock 'n' roll history. Thank you.
I remember this in 66....I was enthralled with this sound....I was 12...it's good to hear it again.
I was 15 and had a guitar.....
It was easy to learn.
What a delightful man
RIP Reg
Thank You, Troggs!
I love the Troggs. My favourite song of theirs is "With A Girl Like You"
Just now is the first time I've heard
any other version other than the Troggs'
Definitely no comparison to the original.
This song means so much to me, The Troggs version of course. It will always live on in my heart and soul. Thanks Reg, rest in peace my friend
reg presley was a darn good singer, and songwriter
One of my fondest memories. Being invited to Reg's house in Andover where he cooked Sunday lunch. Great times. Great man and highly underrated songwriter.
You can't beat the original.
One of the most influential love ballads of my time. Whenever I hear it I find myself back in the time of my youth and first love. Such beautiful memories this song evokes to this day.
REG this song will be here for EVER and EVER and all thanks to YOU.
And the Holy Spirit, don't you SEE when Reg tells his story. "Wild Thing" is not quite like this, is it? But Reg got inspired by the Sally Army on a Sunday!
RIP LOVE the TROGGS Love Reg Presley!!! RIP
What a great song 😥
I've never even heard this version. Only the Troggs can sing it like it should be sung.
Yep. :)
Very true!
And Billy Mack?
Of course, the version by the Troggs is the best, but a great song can sound good no matter who sings it.
Yes 😊
A lovely gem; thanks so much for posting and sharing this video.
Being a teenager in Andover, Hampshire, S. England. I got to see the Troggs before they became famous. Reg Presley was a lovely chap, down to Earth & honest, he always had time to stop & chat if you saw him in town, or at the garden centre in later life. Chris Britton is still with us, & retains his good humour & roots, he has retired from the band, that continues with later members. I feel proud to have known them both.
For me, there's only one Presley...REG rules!
I was 9 when the Trogg's original was released. I had 5 older sisters that bought all of the 45's of the day and this was one of them. Loved this song. Still do. At the same time, the other interpretation of the song wasn't bad ... but by the time it came out I was already an adult contributing member of society who saw it as a "cover" and got on with my life. I still prefer the original.
Wonderful thank you for the memory.
the troggs loved there songs met reg couple of times great guy very distinctive voice legend
Troggs tapes brought me here...love em
I have not found a cover of this that is better than the original. I think it is the harmony and the folk rock style that makes it better.
No worries there it will last for as long as man. Great hit single, one of the best.
top guy love him so natural
I love this song. Probably more so than *"Wild Thing."*
Dont be gey
best love song ever!
Reg and the boys came to Vancouver in about 1980 and put on a great show at the old Commodore Ballroom . Can always say I saw the Troggs !
Warm summer nights , drive-ins , walk to the corner store to get an ice cream , looking at the stars with your first girlfriend , and oh yeah , great music !
My sweet Reg!!! I love you!
For all these years it was some group called Wet Wet Wet (?) and here I'd always thought it was Anne Murray singing it! The Trogg's version is a billion times better.
Saw the Troggs perform last year. Great sounds still. Fantastic night. Just as good as they were in the 60s.
I miss you Reg xx
Hopefully the people who only know the WWW version will listen to the far better Troggs original.
The Troggs version is 1trillion times better than that overproduced remake
wet wet wet,,,,,,NOT the soundtrack to MY 90s. the Troggs originals were part of OUR soundtrack. I loved it from childhood until....well..now! I cherish those old tunes and they gave us kids something real and something original to hang on to. Forget Wet Wet Wet..ffs..*sigh*
Reg loved their version. So did so many others considering it was one of the best selling singles of all time. Of course it's gonna get mentioned a lot for that reason. Don't be so bitter.
Of course Reg loved it. It made him squillions.
NoRosesForMe ...I hear you man
You Miserable Old Bastard, The Wets version blows old Reggies version OUT OF THE WATER...... Get Real
Jack Dee
No way, NUMBNUTS.
RIP Reg !
what a band.whjen you're tal;king about under vrewarded bands,TROGGS up ther.mods rioted when they played dublin.
god bless you for such good memories
The Troggs version much superior!
He already looks ill here!-very sad to have Reg go! RIP
The Troggs flew to Georgia in the 1990s and made a studio album with REM.
I never heard the Wet Wet Wet version here in the US. I remember the Troggs version well while I was a teen.
I knew in Jr High--big big big. And the sustained violin note at the end --the same note--just topped it.
Drip, drip, drip, not a patch on Reg and the Troggs
When Marti Pellow opens his mouth, it just flows. None other like him
Who?
@@docsavage8640Marti Pellow that was the lead singer if the Wet Wet Wet. That song became No1 for weeks. I know that was your song.
Hard to believe "Wet,Wet,Wet" actually made a Super-Hit out of this song.Love the original,But Wet The...Got some real ignorent folks out there...GO BACK AND LISTEN TO THE ORIGINALS GUYS!! The 90's should not be defined by this Band!
The shot where they're playing in the underground is from the Stockholm metro (Sweden)
Sunday, family, back home, lunch in the oven, Salvation Army pop band playing about love, and suddenly Reg gets it, even though it is NOT a very Trogg-like song. Obviously the inspirer is the Holy Spirit. Have faith, and see...
the Troggs were very popular in Newzealand 1960s every band played there songs to get the right feel was harder
Awesome 💞 2021 May
Wow, did not know!
so proud somerset me !!!
That 'ampshire accent
The group's actual name is wetwetwet ? Sounds like a bathroom problem. R.I.P.REG
When we get soaked by the rain that is the Holy Spirit then we are also wet, wet, wet - for Father and Son too. See the bigger picture here. What was the B side of The Troggs' 45 back then in '67? Check and you will SEE more!
Just to be clear, Reg didn’t write Wild Thing. That was Chip Taylor, who also wrote Angel of the Morning.
When the Troggs were number 1 in the US, they were number 1 in the UK with With A Girl Like You, their only domestic chart topper.
Reg didn’t write it but he owned it !
The Troggs are a good band
Can’t believe there are people on here who don’t know Wet Wet Wet. They’d been around for about seven years when their version was number 1 for 15 weeks.
Sí está 👍🇦🇷
Diappointing the interviewer didn't acknowledge Jimi Hendrix covering Wild Thing. I'm sure Reg and the boys must have been ecstatic about Jimi's version.
the original is the best !
Wet wet did it great.but the troggs are better
"The other Presley" That's cute!😄
Love their ballads, but Wild Thing really had a personality that stood apart.
(Composed by Chip Taylor...born Voight. Yep, brother of prolific actor Jon.)
That song will last for millenia.
I remember playing this in our school talent show in 1970? Although we came in 2nd because of some good 8th graders I won because one of the hottest 8th grade girls who looked just like the blonde from ABBA made me her boyfriend for the entire year. I broke new ground because a 7th grader never went with a 8th grader. lol In fact most 8th grade girls went out wit H/S guys..lol
Wet Wet Wet version is castrated pap but I hope Reg made a ton of $ off it
Of course Reg played up the atrocious wet wet version, he made good royalties. But he knew the truth, as do I and many others. The god-awful, sappy, unlistenable, wet version sux.
The World disagrees but it's OK. Reg had help too, from the Holy Spirit, as you can hear in his story...
"Soundtrack of the 90s" .....sure 👍🥴
Wonder if they made any money as so many were ripped off in those days?
“Wet” ruined it in some areas by adding, “Oh yes it does”.
They ruined it in every way possible
@@docsavage8640 🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻
I think it needs a twelve-string on it - doing what 'e was doin
You were brave to last that far. I shut it off long before then.
No match to the original song, come on...
Yeah, he had cancer. Some cancer cases, people have it growing inside of them for 15 or 20 years.
Better than Jackson pink stinking floyd nirvana pearl jam peppers
Brilliant, loved Reg.
