  • There is a reason we have people who sell cars. This video is for everyone in the business.
Feel free to distribute away! BUT... please.. do not re-label it or edit or anything of the sort. This means the "by" line should either read "Shocktane" or "Chris Adams." If you have any questions please contact shocktane@gmail.com or on facebook : SHOCKTANE video (c)2013 Chris Adams
    pages/Shockt...
About a century ago, we needed a way to get from point A to point B. So Daimler and Benz, Maybach and Peugoet, Ford, Olds, and a bunch of engineers and dreamers and ironworkers came up with cars.
And the universe said, these machines aren't easy to understand for ordinary folks, and they cost a lot of money. We better get some salespeople quick. And the Universe gave us car salesman.
The Universe said "I need someone willing to work bell to bell, six days a week, make a hundred phone calls a day, handle floor traffic, close four deals on the last day of the month, stay out till last call celebrating and still make it into the 830AM sales meeting the next day wide awake, ready to kick ass and take names." So the Universe gave us car salesmen.
The Universe said "I need someone who can charm the pants off a nun, talk business with executives, football with steelworkers, and knows just enough about just about everything to have an intelligent conversation with anyone, no matter what their hobbies or line of business. A fellow who is dropforged from steel, with brass balls the size of grapefruits, the confidence of a trapeze artist, the bravado of a pool hustler, the memory of an elephant, the skin of a rhinoceros, the horns of a bull and the polish of a statesman. ." So the Universe gave us car salesmen.
The Universe said "I need someone to shovel snow in sub-zero cold, to move a minivans worth of stuff into a new car in boiling heat. I need someone with the patience to teach your grandmother how to use a factory navigation system and the drive and determination to do a ninety minute demonstration for every customer, even if they came in ten minutes after close and can't finance a hot dog. " So the Universe gave us car salesmen.
The Universe said "I need someone who can get things fixed at Service without running up a bill. I need someone who can entertain kids and shut down third basemen and stand up to sales managers and close three deals by noon. I need someone who can survive for fourteen hours on nothing but coffee, adrenaline, and half a slice of pizza inhaled in a three minute lunch break, dealing with folks that shop prices against every dealer in the tri-state area and still have to think about it." So the Universe gave us car salesmen.
"I need someone who isn't going to break down when he has three deals unwind in one day. Someone who is willing to stay five hours over so his teammate can watch their kids' recital and get the short end of a split deal and not bitch about it. I need someone who knows the product line inside, outside, and upside down and can still sell what's on the lot today." So the Universe gave us car salesmen.
"But most of all, I need someone who will study. Learn the craft. Treat the people right. Train the new guy when you're not playing pranks on him. Take him under your wing. Pass down everything you've learned. So that one day, after you've sold everyone, and their families, and their coworkers, you're living out your days puttering around dealerships doing dealer trades, you can look out at all the young faces in the showroom, and know that somehow, some way, you made an impact on the world."
And so, the Universe gave us car salesmen.,. (c) Chris Adams 2012

After 7 years of selling cars, anytime my sales month and is off to a rough start and I get to wondering why I don't just take up a career with the comfort of a consistent salary I find myself watching this video and it really reinvigorates the pride I have in my work. It just gets me every time to the point where I even get a bit misty. I want to thank whoever took the time to put this video together.

I've heard the best motivational speakers preach hardwork, massive action and determination, and they are totally correct, but they just can't motivate me like this video does. It would take me hours upon hours to Inform someone about the car business what this video does in less then 5 minutes.

34 years selling cars and about to retire. This is well written and is spot on for 98% of the "REAL CAR GUYS" out there. I have helped many people get into their first vehicle, repair their credit and begin a financially responsible life. I love the line at 3:03 "somehow, someway, you made an impact on the world".

I am going on my 2nd year as a Car Salesman, I came from a banking and finance background were I held management positions , due to moving to a new city to fulfill the dream of becoming a homeowner so that my kids could have their own room, I found myself starting a new career on a totally different field, I was lucky to have experienced great success at my dealership on my first year earning the Top Salesman of the year award from a Sales force of 35 Team mates.
despite of the great success and continuous production improvement month over month I found myself yearning to go back to my old profession.
However my General Sales Manager played this video for us on our weekly Friday meeting and in what I would consider an almost magical way this video ignited a new desire to continue, to keep going, to have pride on our endeavor and not deviate from being the best I can be on this beautiful Profession!!!
Thanks to whoever uploaded this great video!!!

I really enjoyed this video. Really made me smile. You have to be a car sales person to really understand and live this.... My entire family is in the car business. I literally grew up under a car, then at my dad's dealerships. I joined my dad at 18. then I married a car guy, so of course my son joined at 18.
Sales people are like no other. We are a special "breed". We have our own language, our own set of morals / ethics.
We know the type of customer, just by that first handshake. We know more personality types than your psychologist. You would rather stay an hour late - than take a half deal. A day off means coming in at 10am just to deliver a car, and not leaving until 3pm. Skating a deal has killed the best of friendships.
The hours are long, a mini deal will give you brain damage, Saturday lunches are unpalatable, your kids see you more at work, than in your home. The money is great when the weather is not.
You dread that Saturday morning ass chewing aka Sales meeting. BUT, YOUR FIRST DEAL of the day, invigorates you MORE than any coffee or energy drink!
You know your co-workers favorite food, movie, marital issues, kids names, birthdays. But, forget your own Anniversary.
Your fellow car guys become your extended family.
You will Switch stores, move to new city, not talk to a car buddy in 5 years. But, the day you call, they still know your voice, make you laugh, remember your nick name, and always have have time to talk (inflate) their monthly sales numbers!
    It's not a job, it's not a career, it's a life long dedication.
    -melshark

Going over housekeeping items - like move your deadwood? going over spiffs won for the week and picking up your cash? who's leading the pack? Who hit fast start? or watching an inspirational video like this one?

Fantastic video Sir. I am 5 years in the business and get a recharge when I watch it. I'll say this to any potential buyer... from a Salesman standpoint we know you are going to shop the price, we know you want to save as much money as possible, we know you want respect, honesty and the whole works. I'll tell you the 2 things that will make you car buying experience a fun thing. 1. Be HONEST with us. If you are going to shop, tell us. 2. DO NOT WASTE our time. If you are truly are year away from buying a car there is no need to go to a dealership. The same info can be found online without wasting someones time when they could actually sell a car.

    • @willowcahill1956
      @willowcahill1956 6 лет назад

If someone tells you they are a year away. Ask why. When they give you their "Reason" find a way around it, that's your job. Or, idk I can give you my location and I will gladly sell them a car. Kidding, but been doing this 15 years almost, and there's usually away to sell someone a car if they are capable credit/income wise. That doesn't mean you're going to close everyone, but you at least have a shot. Just take care of the customer first and foremost whether they are buying or looking, and the money will take care of itself.

Many of them still jump from job to job, some live with parents still. Selling cars has provided for my family, bought us nice things, kept me humble, taught me the gift for gab, and kept me out of trouble. This Video is great, and I hope it goes viral. I wish everyone could see it.

Just a message to everyone who has watched this video... I happened to work with Chris Adams back at Nissan North (what I refer to as the good ol days) when Chris was making this video.
I can tell you first hand Chris was thee perfect co worker to work along side me. I remember if something came up and I needed to leave, Chris would be right there to help anyway he could. He would be the first in, and the last to leave back then. Truly exceptional co worker!
Chris thank you for making this video and getting it out there for our “other world” to see and enjoy. It’s true, if you’re not in the business or married to someone in the business, you wouldn’t have a clue what this video means.

We watched this in our morning meeting in Phoenix on Camelback and its fantastic you made this with such insight and its spot on. Made us laugh, tear up and puff up our chests as we do play a significant role and some of really do care about putting the customers needs first to build a book or referrals and try to squash the 'typical salesperson' persona. It can be a respectable job if you are a professional-its all in the 'serve' and this was served up just right. Keep inspiring!

11 years in the business this year. I love and hate it just like most everyone. I remember a manager being rude to me, and considering my position as the know-nothing new guy, and all the years experience he had. I said to myself “I’m gonna take your f-ing job one day, and I’m never going to treat a new person like this”. A close to two years later he resigned and left after rumors he was gonna be canned. I immediately asked the GM to train me and consider me for the position. Thanks Todd. You telling me no, and I wouldn’t be able to be a manager was exactly what I needed to take a better job, as a manager in a different store, and led to a great career, because I no longer worked for you 😂

Just when I thought everything had been said about the people who endeavor to be auto sales professionals, along comes this video and the way it pulls at the heart of anyone who has ever sold cars for any length of time... Great video and THANK YOU for sharing with all of us, especially the Old Car Dogs like myself... This one choked me up some.

Thank You ! Amazing ........ I quit high school in 1978 started out washing cars ! I now own a New Car dealership and still sell, wash cars, clean bathrooms and work most days bell to bell ! I'm about to turn 51 years old, I just want to thank the many people who have helped me get where I'm at today...... BTW I still love that half of sliver of pizza... Don't ever forget ! A GOOD sales person is the heart and soul of our business, I hope everyone in the business reaches their goal as well.....

I know of no other line of work where a man or woman can walk in off the street & make a hundred grand the first year out, IF he or she is trained properly on the lost art of closing. Another "must" is working with a dealership that knows how to draw crowds onto the lot through proper mass communication. Shootin' fish in a barrel!

Saw this for the first time shortly after starting in the car business in Pittsburgh 5 years ago at Smail Acura. Now, I'm in Orlando at Don Mealey Sport Subaru and watching it again as I'm about to exit the car business and it brings me to tears. It's not easy, what we do. We spend a long time away from our families, we're expected to work for long hours and still put up a smile and give everyone the same level of experience every time, whether they show up at 11 AM to buy a car or at 8:59 PM to test drive for a purchase that isn't happening until next year. We're not heroes; we don't save lives or change the world, but we work hard and are underappreciated for it. I looked up this video again because I wanted to reminisce about these last 5 years and feel that somewhere out there, there are others watching this and appreciating what we do. Thank you for making this video and for making a difference in our world.

Geat video...I sold cars for 6 years, now I'm back selling farm machinery. If the dealership I worked at wouldn't have sold out, I'd still be there. I learned a lot about selling and made a few good friends in the biz. Thanks for the feeling this gave me @shocktane...Happy selling everyone!!

I love this video because after 19 1/2 years of grinding and filling out credit applications scraping registrations using quarters to unscrew license plates I have reached the middle of my profession .as I sit across from people who have no clue who they are negotiating with because if the did they would shit themselves. My kids are grown and my wife is gone but my by credit remains poor I move a car I cannot afford and give advice to people who clearly have chosen better than me .but I wouldn't change anything
So as I sit here stocking my trade away.looking for a pen with some ink in it ....I say thank universe for. Making me a salesman
