- Replacing u-joints with basic tools: In this video I will show you how to replace u-joints, also called cardan joints, or spicer joints. The vehicle in the video is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, but the process is very similar for any u-joint replacement.
Here is the u-joints I used: www.amazon.com... - Авто/Мото
One of the better u joint installation videos. I am a driveline technician and usually watch these videos for a good laugh. One thing to watch out for on those Spicer joints is there is a thrust washer in each cap. Make sure they stay in the cap. If one sticks to the trunion and you get 2 in one cap and none on the other side it will shake like a m-fer.
i just put a spicer in my rig. did not notice that. must have been good. LOL
Sincere thanks from a UK Cherokee XJ owner, thanks to your video I got both UJs changed on the driveshaft. Hard work, but your clear demonstration made it straight forward and achievable - I'd have had no chance on my own!! Thanks so much, videos like this and others give more information and experience than a thousand paper manuals!
I know this is 3 years old but i wanted to say thanks. Great tip on placing x to match shaft. Thanks man!
Your videos are the most helpful ones I’ve found for my plethora of Jeep repair DIY needs.
Oh, also.. if you’d like to get married I’m so down.
Your videos have been a godsend in overhauling my jeep, thanks a bunch.
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for sharing this. The other video I looked at, started with the driveshaft already out. I appreciate you starting from the beginning for someone, like me, that has never done this before. So, again, THANK YOU.
excellent rep. nice steady video. like when u speed up video for certain parts ! everyone should follow ur style !!
Thank you!
The funniest comments .. yeah speed up the video in certain spots, sonny.
thank you. just broke one on my way home. thought it was gonna be alot more work but this video was very informative and helpful.
Drive Shaft U-Joint Replacement - EXCELLENT VIDEO.
I will be doing u-joints for the first time in the jeep I just bought, this video helps alot man.
glad to hear it!
excellent rep. nice steady video. like when u speed up video for certain parts ! everyone should follow ur style. also you talked about the part and only that which make the video even better ...did have a whole story that had nothing to do with what you were fixing awesome
Thanks!
Exactly the tutorial I need. Tks for sharing, bro..
You made it look easy. Thanks RT
Well done and I saw the tape holding the loose u-joint caps on till you were ready to assemble !
Good job Bro.
I Subscribed your Channel
From India
Thanks!
What pipe size did you use to hammer out the U joint?
Great job young man.
thanks!
Picking up a 95 Jeep Cherokee XJ, I’m towing it with a tow dolly and I need to remove the rear drive shaft, does the car need to be in neutral for me to remove it?
10:30 you got the right stickers on that thing for sure
Dude. Very good and informative video! How long can you drive with bad U Joints? I just started getting the vibrations about 4 days ago and probably cant afford to get it worked on for another 7 days. Will I be okay driving you thinking ?!
sometime u joint vibration just becomes new decorative performance enhancer
or it kill yur driveshaft
roll the dice
It's very informative thanks
I've taken the 8mm bolts out ,but the drive shaft wont move back and out ,,help pls
Great job bud .Thanks God bless u
The I joint that I bought came with c clips am I suppose to use these or no?
Great video .. ....well done One question what is the u joint that has the little bolts with the u shaped fasteners on It Called IS there a specific name for it ?
Fantastic video!
I replace the U-joints on my 94 Dodge Dakota and the axle is set up the same way as that truck I was just wondering did you use the c clips after you put the bolts back on? Or does that bracket with the 3/8 bolts hold the cap with the bearings in there? With the Loctite
I want to remove the rear drive shaft as its buggered and just use the front one would this work ?
That's it? haha, I'm about to do it. You could put the transfer case in neutral to spin the driveshaft and not move the vehicle. Cheers!
Nice vid
What year is your jeep
Thanks for the video helped a lot ima subscribe to your channel👍🏽 I lol do that to my 79 z28
Glad to hear it!
I'm gonna U joint your drive shaft ;)
thanks this helped alot
So when you take out the the driveshaft from the yoke, not ATF will come out???
Thaaaanks for helpin me!
Made it look so easy
Great job- thanks
Muy bueno no video pero no entendi loque esplico pregunta mi jeep es 1989 y muy seguido se me sale la flecha del diferencial me gustaria saber porque pasa
If you jack up the front so the tires are off the ground you can line it up better. 👍
you are really good.
thanks!
Don’t hammer directly on your drive shaft. It may cause imbalance. Make sure it’s always supported and you hammer on the u joint
Exellent thank you great vídeo
Thanks!
brotha. your good. i lov yor video
Thanks!
Mark the U joint before disassembly makes it much easier to put it back together.
What are the symptoms that identifies to change this item ? I’m curious due to my truck shaking from 40 to 70 mph on the highway and I can’t find out why it shakes . I’ve replaced my shocks/struts front and rear, also balanced and rotated my tires but I still have this horrible shake between those speeds , could my ujoints be the reason for this ?
yes, worn U joints can cause vibrations
Update on my 2011 Chevrolet Silverado ! That had vibrations while driving at highway speeds ! Spent yesterday changing out my u-joints ! 100% fixed my problem ! Thanks for the video ! I have 150k miles on my truck aswell
Great vid....thanks.
Were those original u-joints ??
gracias
How many miles on your xj? Interested to know how long the stock ones lasted.
170,000 but I've had to change the U joints before. The increased driveshaft angle caused by lifting the vehicle shortens their lifespan.
Have you replaced the u-joints on the front driveshaft?
I have not. I had to replace the rear because of a Pinion angle that I have now corrected. The pinion angle was a little off which caused the U joints to wear quickly. I temporarily removed the front drive shaft when I swapped the front axle and the U-joints were still in good shape
Admiral Off-Road Are there any special tips or tricks when removing or installing the front drive shaft? I’m going to be putting new ujoints on both driveshafts and your video is going really helpful when I do the rear one
Awesome vid.
Thank you!
chock the front wheels and put the rear on jacks stands, vehicle in neutral. Easy peasy lineup
how much grease did you put in them?
until you see some coming out under the cap
You should go to the badlands its fun or flat nasty
You need a bigger hammer. But excellent video none the less.
thanks!
THANK YOU
or you could just put the jeep in neutral so you can spin the drive shaft. that way you don't have to take off the parking brake.
Is this th same for a 2000 suburban
It should be very similar. The Suburban might have a double cardan drive shaft but as far as removing and replacing the U-Joints goes, the process should be similar.
500 labor in my town .hell nah to that thanks bro
thx nice video, wearing thin gloves would add a nice touch
Also instead of using a hammer and beating your sockets up use a ball joint press simple and faster
I’m wondering how much it cost to replace that
the U joints themselves are between $10-30 each depending on the brand and size
I can’t pull off drive shaft
..AND MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR SAFETY GLASSES ON THE BENCH NEXT TO YOU INSTEAD OF WEARING THEM THAT WAY SOMETHING LIKE A SPRING WASHER CAN TAKE YOUR EYE OUT 😆
MAC IRISH/SLOVAC #safety3rd
Your damn lucky not to live in the rust belt.
true that!
I had a hard time removing a u joint with a 20 ton sho press .Im on the salt belt.
Should not use a steel hammer.
Easier with a press. Rookies
I don't think described the tools you'll need that well
they're all fairly common basic tools. Is there anything I can help you identify?
what size is that pipe
Thanks for the help!!
