    The first tillotson single diaphram carb, model H, would allow a two stroke to be run up to 90 degrees. When the HL came out, that is when you could run 360 degrees. because it had the pump and metering functions both. The HL is what made two strokes viable for so many applications. Tillotsons werent used a lot on old cars, but were very popular on tractors, trucks, farm equipment and construction equipment. Good video on both historical and practical information.

    I enjoyed that much Dan.
    I hardly ever let anybody borrow anything, especially if it has a engine on it.
    I learned the hard way about loaning out anything. Sometimes you get it back and if you do most of the time you have to fix it.
    I had a neighbor I could loan anything to and it would come back that day or the next. Cleaner than when he got it.
    He is in a better place now. I miss him much.

    Hey there. First off sweet collection of chainsaws. What a pleasant hobby. I have fairly recently stated tinkering on vintage outboards. I have a late 40's Champion outboard that has a tillotson carb almost identical to the one your holding at 3:30. Whats the chances you have an extra one of those for sale? Ha ha. Cheers from Canada!

    That’s a true statement, friends don’t let friends borrow chainsaws. My neighbor wanted to borrow mine, seemed a bit upset with me. I tried to explain it to him but you know how that goes. He ended up buying one, but I’ve never seen him use it. He calls someone to come do it for him. 😂

      Hmm, yeah I hate chasing stuff like that...make sure the order of the diaphragm and gasket is correct...spacer gasket goes on carb body first then diaphragm on top....if it's flip flopped it will run too rich....keep tryin😁

    Dan help me out. You know I’ve got the old Husqvarna 380CD and it has Tilley HS something. My saw has the L and H jet holes on the port side of the saw as the operator would look down the blade while in use. The spring loaded needle with the steel sleeve on the TOP of the carb by the linkage is just the idle speed? My saw has no brake. anyway, I did a small muffler mod so I had to readjust he carb. At first I couldn’t start the saw or keep it running It at idle. Dialed all 3 needles to 0 then opened them up per Tillotson specs . Thing was screaming and way over-revving. So I dialed them back 3/4 turn. But I don’t think my settings are right. Sucker is heavy and trying to adjust needles while the saw is running is physically taxing. Should I just seat the idle speed needle to near 0 then do my L jet then H? But leave idle speed almost seated?

    • @KainKustomGarage
      @KainKustomGarage  2 года назад +1

      Hey Dan! So you should set the lo jet first , so it idles decent usually ends up about 1 turn out, then set your idle speed, then your high speed jet...I did a carb adjusting video, maybe check that out...😊

      @@KainKustomGarage will do Dan. Thanks. These old Tilleys really last long and take a beating. I do have a reputable rebuild kit, but I’m just holding on to it now. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. What brought this about was a minor muffler mod I did with a small additional port. I’m retrospect I probably didn’t need it since the 380CD OEM muffler has no baffles. Thanks
