As a Texas Rangers fan, I was rooting for the Oakland Athletics to win this game. The city of Oakland and their team deserve so much better, and so do all fans of baseball. But congrats on the victory Oakland, the story's better if you win that game 💙💚
City of Oakland doesn’t deserve better. It’s a continuously deteriorating shit hole because of the politicians they vote for without fail that drive the city into unrecoverable economic ruin and encourage violent crime. They can’t even keep In-N-Out in town. Good riddance
I grew up about as far away from Oakland as you could and still be in the Continental USA, but in the 80s if you weren't a Redsox fan you had posters of the bash bros on your wall. Even if you weren't an A's fan, they were exciting. The Sox had some talent with the best pitcher, the best hitter and following the 86 series, 2 of the best rookies in the league -- Greenwell and Burks. The A's were far better and it wasn't even close when they met in the ALCS. This team definitely deserved better.
Guy @11:14 is Krazy George Henderson, inventor of the wave, and the reason the NFL has a rule against excessive celebrations lol! He accidentally got the crowds at NHL games on Colorado to do the wave. He was trying to get them to do something else, and the wave kinda happened on accident. So he decided a routine to get it going and perfected it at these NHL games. On October 15, 1981 the very first ever televised "Wave" was lead by Krazy George at Oakland Coliseum. On September 26, 2024 Krazy George Henderson (I write with somber pride) led the crowd in the final televised Wave at Oakland Coliseum. Yeah, it was a dump. But it was our dump. Gonna miss that place like I miss the memories! Thank you for this love letter to the fanbase I was born into. And thanks for including Krazy George in your video (whether it was intentional or not)!
Great post. I went to a few games from 1981-83, and Krazy George was there. After a while I didn't want to deal with BART or the fact that the Coliseum is in an awful area, but I remember those days. Low attendance in those years, but it was fun, we'd buy lousy tickets and then hang out behind the first base dugout.
@@richatlarge462 that's awesome! I met Krazy George at a bar in DTSJ while I was with my dad getting his old Earthquakes (MLS) posters signed by a lot of the old players [it was like a small fan event]. Real stand up dude! I remember wanting to be just like him when I was in middle school!
Oakland didn't have much aside from it's major sports teams. It won't be the same..even if in the future the city does manage to attract another sports team
I was a kid living in the Bay area in the 1970's and we loved the A's as well as well the California Golden Seals (NHL). We moved to Chicago in the late 70's but my heart was always with the A's. This was a sad year for me knowing the A's were leaving Oakland. I know if my dad was alive he would have probably cried. We got to see the A's win back to back to back World Series. I feel sorry for the people of Oakland
GREAT VIDEO!!!!! I'm 42 from Toronto. Oakland has always been an iconic franchise for me. Starting from the early 90s with Henderson, Canseco, McGuire, Eck, Stewart, Welch, etc. Jays-A's 1992 ALCS. then the Moneyball years and impact on the game & incursion into pop culture. Then subsequent competitive windows before falling of a cliff that never ended. iconic franchise. it's an absolute shame to see this be lost. it's a loss to the entire MLB world, not just Oakland.
The A's might have been a division rival for me, but as a BASEBALL fan, today sucked. Corporate greed and incompetence wins once again. A big double bird to JF!
@@axe2grind244 It was. when you have Wringley and Fenway being 100+ years stadium working good and a 50 year stadium completly destroyed is because one party decided to not invest in manteinance (Fisher). Fisher also tried to tank for the last 18 years since he bought the team, while also putting prices that minimun the team was the 70s dynasty A's when the mayority of the time were a 90 loss team. As a former Expos fan, it hits hard. Sincerely, screw Jeffrey Loria and David Samson. I'm sorry the same is happening with A's fans.

Those late 80s A's were an absolute powerhouse. They brushed away my Red Sox in 88 and 90 like they were nothing. I'm still amazed they only got one ring from that team.
I am a Phillies fan so I know a good crowd. And although I’ve never been even close to the colosseum I’m still going to miss it. I wish the A’s had good ownership, someone who knew how to run a team and actually cared about it 😢
My dad presented the American flag during the 89. My grandma would buy multiple tickets so all the grandkids could get bobble heads. I was there when they retired Ricky Hendersons jersey. Fireworks games. I am heartbroken over this
I got to go to the game. I got my ticket back in April. It was sad. I got my "Sell The Team" shirt to go with my Pirates "Sell The Team" shirt. My grandfather was a Philadelphia A's fan, was upset and angry when they left. He would always go with my uncles to NY or Baltimore just to see them play.
My first time to the Coliseum I was eight years old and it was April of 1968, NY vs Oak. Micky Mantle homered in the first and the A's walked it off in 11. My parents were from Philly and their first date was an A's game in 1948. My Mom's first time to Shibe Park was 1936, her all time favorite A's player was Wally Moses. My parents also attended the Heidi Game. My brother worked for the organization at the Coliseum in the mid 80's to mid 90's. By that time I had moved to Alaska, but I always made it down to the Coliseum for World Series and Grateful Dead New Years runs. I snuck into the 89 World Series by going through the front office with my brother, shaking Sandy Alderston's hand along the way (the Haas family, now those were owners). I raised two A's fans in Alaska by being their LL & HS BB coach/umpire and taking them to a week of Spring Training games every March for a decade 96 to 06. A favorite memory being Mohamed Ali patting my son on the head and giving him an autograph on Barry Zito's leg on the cover of the program while he entered an A's Spring Training game in the 2nd inning to a standing ovation, that and all the foul balls and autographs. I've watched damn near every A's game since streaming has been a thing, and before that we used to get the A's on TV sometimes on Sundays, the highlight being watching Dallas Braden's perfect game with my son or taking both my young kids to the Bar to watch the 20 wins in a row. I took off work for Game 162. I made my last trip to the Coliseum in May, for the Texas series, finishing off with a Double Header sitting in Sec. 119 at the top of the A's tunnel. Now all of that has to come to an end because of one man. FJF
Crazy to realize the Philadelphia A's were there for 54 years, and Oakland had them for 57 with a brief stop in Kansas City from 1955-1967. The A's re-relocation to Oakland gave rise to the Kansas City Royals franchise in 1969 as a result. Oakland sadly will not be a candidate for MLB expansion (personally I think 30 teams is too many already) but with Las Vegas being the A's new eventual home, and with Nashville leading the way for expansion, that leaves only one other city/municipality to get an MLB franchise and I dare say if Nashville gets one, the other will probably go to Portland Oregon or Salt Lake City Utah.
I’m a Phillies fan. Being born and raise in Philadelphia, I have a somewhat historical/ personal ties to this organization, the A’s were from philliy, won 5 World Series and the Phillies have honor the A’s in their hall of fame. In the A’s last game in Oakland took place 70 years to the day of the Philadelphia A’s last game. Any way, the last day of the 2012 season. When grant Balfour comes into that game with Metallica one playing the crowd going crazy was one of the coolest things I watch at a baseball game
This is one of the greatest and poignant histories and eulogy videos I have ever seen. Very bittersweet. How you compiled so much footage into a concise presentation is pure genius. At least they brought home the World Series time and time again to the fans in dazzling fashion. As a long-suffering Padre parishioner who remembers Rollie Fingers in his twilight years (and his mustachio that rivaled the $50,000 mustachio of late Chargers owner and patriotic pizza pioneer Frank Pernicano, RIP), The A's were always fun to watch even though our teams never played each other. Your stadium was an island of green and yellow in a sparse windswept littoral industrial wasteland. As a long-suffering Chargers fan, we know firsthand of the betrayal of loyal fans by callous and avaricious owners... none of whom ever PLAYED an actual sport growing up (aka Dean "collegiate golfer" Spanos,... [spit]). Our butts have first degree burns from all the hot air they blew promising not to leave...and burned a hole in our wallets when they demanded new tax-payer funded stadium remodel.....just to leave as planned all along. All those great names just flood back just as if those players just unlaced their cleats after 9 hard innings. My respect for Oaklanders (even old of Raider fans) has shot up to a level I never thought was possible. You are great supporters of a historied and potent team. The players appreciated your spirit and morale. I just hope your city doesn't die like a rust belt town. It is shame the so-called owners robbed your kids and grandkids of the world's greatest hometown pastime that keeps this country alive. Once a team goes, it is gone... and gone forever when the fans slowly fade away with the last out in life. Thank you, Oakland A's.
I’ve always loved this team. I’m just sad. They recently made the playoffs 6 times in 9 years and I think we forget just how fun and electric many of those teams were bc of their playoff results. That impossible 2012 team was part of what made me love baseball, and I’m a Cubs fan. They were expected to be awful, we’re awful much of the way through the year, then came out of nowhere to win 67% of their final 67% of games to dethrone the invincible back to back pennant winning Rangers in the division. If I’m remembering right they were 5 back with 9 to play and were once 13 games back, yet they rode a historic number of walkoffs to a division title. I’ll always love that team They were never once expected to make the playoffs in that 9 year stretch yet they always defied expectations. They once won 102 game in a division with a 116 game winner than won 103 the next year. The last couple of years have made us forget that this team was truly awesome for a long long time. I’ll really miss them. RIP Oakland A’s. The league won’t be the same without you.
I was at that last game in 2012... magical. Appreciate the kind words 👊. I almost certainly won't watch baseball anymore, but if I do I'll root for the Cubs because I respect the heck out of your fan base.

From Phily, to KC, to Oakland - the A's have always represented towns that were gritty and had heart. Ownership has destroyed a legacy and gutted the emotions of an entire city. I've been an A's fan since the late 80s, and lived in Oakland in the early 2000s. Dollar Wednesdays were a lifeline for my wife and I when we were young and broke in college and we went to games all of the time. To see this team taken away from Oakland breaks the heart. Thank you Oakland - it was magic.
Let’s us not forget the pitching of the late 80s. Dave Stewart had 3 straight 20 plus win seasons. Storm Davis and Bob Welch (27 wins 1990) to pair with Ricky Henderson, and the Nash brothers should’ve won 3 straight.
I want to cry and I don't even live in California. I wish I'd been older to remember more games in the Astrodome as a kid...As an Astros fan, I feel sad and I truly empathize with you Oakland. Things shouldn't have turned out this way for y'all. EDIT: I DID cry by the end. :(
Oakland is such a misunderstood city. Gentrification has crushed that city. Oakland lifers have been forced out because everything became so expensive. So the blue collar workers ,the backbone of A’s fandom, had less “disposable income” to go to games. Combine that with an owner who kept getting rid of the good players and refusing to spend then you end up with a low attendance. Also let us not forget that the first thing Fisher said was Oakland was not viable and tried moving to Fremont When that didn’t work he tried San Jose. After that failed too is when they came up with their “Rooted in Oakland”. This forced the Raiders to move to LV. See owner Mark Davis’s response to the A’s moving to LV for full details there. Side note, Warriors always represented SF and Oak so they were always going to move as SF had better spots for them to build. See their jersey for proof on that. In Oakland they had the golden gate on it and the tree. Are Oakland politicians innocent? No. They are a mess and got burned by playing games. The A’s are far worse though. They have lied and cost Oakland its football team too. They beat down their fan base by never keeping anyone. Cutting payroll while increasing ticket and parking prices. Said they would not build in Oakland without a sports district despite agreeing to not have one in LV. The whole deadline they are talking about was about staying o. The luxury tax. They have the 10 largest media market in the country. LV is the 40th and is a Dodger fan town. They got $70 million from NBC sports for broadcasting yet their pay was almost $63 million. When you look at the math you start to see the level on incompetence in the ownership. They will not get that much in LV. Or SAC. This is a dead team. Killed by this ownership.
This. THIS. I'm so tired of people outside this looking in being like "oAkLaNd FaNs HaVe ThEmSeLvEs To BlAmE" - when every move Fisher has OK'd has been the opposite of an owner that cares whatsoever about the fanbase or the community his team is based in. Thank you!
I have an uncle who is 98 years old and he grew up rooting for the Philadelphia A's. He recalled when 1954 came and went and the A's left. He did adopt Phillies fandom, but he still has some old A's stuff lying around in the apartment.
I was at the final game today with my dad. My grandfather was born in Oakland and my dad was raised in the East Bay and grew up going to games at the coliseum. He learned to love baseball from going to games there, and it was from him where I got my love for the game. We’ve been to games there together in the past, but it was different today. My baseball career ended last year when I finished playing in college, and the two of us went back today to watch a game in the place that changed both of our lives in such a positive way
As a lifelong Blue Jay's supporter, I loved the late 80's early 90's Oakland A's. Some of my favorite baseball memories involve those teams and players. Rickey Henderson was my favorite player, and how could you not love the bash brothers and having the stash come in to shut the game down. Truly sad to see this team move. RIP A's, you will be missed.
For someone who never has been to an A's game in Oakland you sure nailed it. It was a magical team at a magical place. From Lloyd on organ back in the day, Cannon explosions after home runs and wins, to the dixieland band, hot pants day, bat days, cap days, it was a great place to grow up.
As a lifelong Giants fan, I always had much respect for ALL of the Oakland teams, and Oakland as a whole...Even after the '89 earthquake prevented our inevitable comeback to win it all 🤣 it sucks that we all are at the mercy of million/billionaire owners who give lip service to caring about the fans, but it's all about the bottom line...it is what it is...I dont take losing the Giants for granted since we almost did til Bob Lurie and friends stepped up...thanks for the memories...justvwush u gave a little more love to Vida Blue and Dave Stewart, but they got honorable mentions 😀 keep lovin' the game ⚾️
A fun story about the moustache thing in the 70s is that Reggie came to spring training with a big fat stache and Charlie Finley wanted Reggie to shave it, but he said no. Finley thought Reggie got the moustache to stand out, so he offered 300 bucks to every player on the team to grow one so Reggie would eventually shave it off. Seriously, check out the MLB Network Presents about this team. It should still be on RUclips.

The A's were allowed to leave Oakland (for free no less) because the stadium was trashed for 30 years by the government that owned it. There was no solution for a new stadium because the City lacked the funding to complete what it promised to do--- for years. 30 owners voted it was better for the A"s to leave for basically anywhere. Not one owner stood up for them.

As an Atlanta Braves fan, my childhood consisted of going to Minor league baseball games in Huntsville Alabama. The double A affiliation of Oakland. Mid 1980s to late 80s saw McGwire, Steinbach, Jose Canseco, etc. Amazing talent and amazing memories!!
I’m from San Jose, and my first baseball game ever was an A’s game in 1999. Didn’t grow up rooting for them, but it was a shame to see the team fade to irrelevancy after I had moved away for college
First time I ever "cut class" was when I was in 8th grade. My mom begrudgingly took me out of school one afternoon to watch the A's play the Indians in a spring training game. They were the 1972 champs at the time. I saw Rollie, Reggie, Blue Moon, Catfish, and many others. Great memories.
My first baseball game I've ever went to was at the Colosseum back in 04. Got to run around on field a couple times as a kid. I remember getting my hat signed by Barry Zito (a few times lol).
When my favorite team the Pirates lost Clemente, I was so fortunate to become an A's fan. Those 3 world series were great it helped baseball recover from such a travesty an I had the Great A's to root for and my Pirates. Later I became a Cardinals fan living near the stadium in the 80s and seeing that decade of great ball. Still we had the Pirates and A's win one more title so it was like old times again. Yes its a shame such greatness will be lost moving to a new location. They played great since the All Star break this year. It was great to root for them again.
49 years old and I've been a fan of the A's since my mom went to a game and brought me home a souvenir helmet in 3rd grade. And truth be told I've been excited about the A's moving knowing da Raidas are already there to welcome their bro's home. I think it made it a little easier for me. ⚾️ ❤😢

Thank you Oakland for giving me some great memories as a rival fan for both your team and my team. Let's Go Oakland!!!
I can emphasise with the Oakland fans. I grew up rooting for the Montreal Expos only to have ownership rip our hearts out and move the team to Washington D.C. Yet it pales to how Oakland sports fans must feel right now. This is the second time in 4 years, and the third time in 74 years of major sport history that they have lost one of their teams. Not to mention that it is the third time this franchise has been uprooted for 'greener pastures'. What makes it all the worse, is the fact that they will be playing across the bay in San Francisco for the next 3 years before actually going to Las Vegas. Rest assured Oakland fans, you're not the only ones shaking your heads in disbelief and disgust.
I'd blame the government if you attended a public school. Your grammar is atrocious (what's with the random capitalizations?) and I'd wager you used Google Translate. No native English speaker speaks or writes like this. How's the weather in Pyongyang?
Going to be so weird (and horrible) to go into next season knowing there's no more Oakland A's. I've been wearing an Oakland A's hat all week in tribute to them and the great memories I have - I may not be an A's fan per se (I'm a baseball fan) but I love the game and this is a sad day. My first MLB game I saw and attended in person involved Oakland as the visitors at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto
I grew up outside San Francisco and am a giants fan but I always enjoyed watching games at the coliseum. Yea it’s kind of a dump but it’s a lovable dump. And honestly it’s not as bad as people made it out to be. The reason as to why Sosa won the MVP over McGuire is quite simple. Sosa led the Cubs to the playoffs, whereas the Cardinals didn't make the playoffs that year.

This is heartbreaking, my heart hurts. I took my son to his first game, had his birthday party at the coliseum, took my daughter when she was born, my daughter was an A’s baseball player while trick or treating in NY, I have pics of my grandkids watching fireworks. My pops was a huge fan, he was at the game during the earthquake, he must be rolling in his grave. This woman is done with baseball! 😢
Heartbroken over the end of the A's bro. Seeing them go hurt just as much as the Raiders leaving the coliseum too. Also pls do a Mo video. Its been 11 years i know but Mo is a legend
Seriously sad though. The owner made them tank in order to justify moving the team because of poor attendance. Sounds just like what happened in my hometown. The Rams were bound for Los Angeles after Stan (Slime) Kroenke abused his power to get them out of St. Louis. UGH

As a Texas Rangers fan, I was rooting for the Oakland Athletics to win this game. The city of Oakland and their team deserve so much better, and so do all fans of baseball. But congrats on the victory Oakland, the story's better if you win that game 💙💚

Me too. It was good that Semien was in the last series.

How can you not be romantic about baseball?
I got to go to the game. I got my ticket back in April. It was sad. I got my "Sell The Team" shirt to go with my Pirates "Sell The Team" shirt.

Keep voting for liberal trash and you will get trash.
If the people want baseball, maybe it's time for another league.

Thank you!

A fun story about the moustache thing in the 70s is that Reggie came to spring training with a big fat stache and Charlie Finley wanted Reggie to shave it, but he said no.

Bullshit, the parking lot is the best for talegating, and i promise you, when it's sold out, you won't find a louder stadium in the league.
Yea it’s not like Pac Bell or any of the other fancy modern stadiums but it’s charming in its own way and is really unlike any other place in baseball. I always tried to get out to at least a couple games in Oakland every year. I’m definitely gonna miss that place
3:20 it was an earthquake
Hopefully the card came up on the top right correcting my mistake
yo im in this video, Im the guy holding the 7 at the reverse boycott. thank you so much for this video, todays game hurt but i love the oakland fans and how we came together today
As a Philadelphian I’ve always viewed the A’s as a legacy franchise. Always rooted for them to pull it together. Every fan deserves better than what Fisher has done to that city. Eff that guy. Eff his mother. Much love from A’s first home.
The reason as to why Sosa won the MVP over McGuire is quite simple. Sosa led the Cubs to the playoffs, whereas the Cardinals didn't make the playoffs that year.
I’m sorry, ‘A league of their own’ is the best ‘non-goofy’ baseball movie ever, and if we include goofy, then the title goes to Major League (I & II)
rickey henderson was the reason i ever started watching baseball, thank you stark raving sports. this breaks my 4 year baseball heart i cant imagine for anyone in oakland. " how can you not be romantic about baseball."
I will be very surprised if they ever actually move to Vegas. I haven’t seen that they even have solid financing for the ballpark yet.
John Fisher 😡🤬👿
FJF
I grew up an As fan; something about the glamor as a 2001 kid. This breaks my heart man
Was at the game today. Between the last singing of "take me out to the ballgame" and the chants of F#@* John Fisher, to the smoke bombs thrown in the outfield, to the streakers on the field. This game had it all. Goodnight Oakland, Good night Atheletics, goodnight baseball.
I went to both the last Coyotes game in Arizona AND the last A’s game in Oakland
You going to be a Utah fan....ala Okc fans that were original Sonic fans??
@@Jojo-u6c no
u must have a thing for wanting depression.
Louis. UGH
Always loved how clean their uniforms looked with the yellow socks and green stirrup
