This is one of the best VR grab bag videos ever. A funeral train with many older units dead-in-tow at La Grange and Covington. Derailment in Texas , Darwins at Revelstoke and some great shots of different trains and railfans. The ladies in California becoming confused and suprised by the crossing gates coming down was hilarious. Excellent video ! 😁👍
26-car Officer Car Special, a Larry’s Truck and Electric funeral train, second-stage separation of a rocket launch, the Longest Wave- what a spectacular GRAB BAG!! 😯
Interesting fact about those SD45s. They were actually rebuilt into SD40M-2s by Morrison Knudsen at their shops in Hornell, NY back in the 90s. I hope they do get saved and possibly preserved.
So on Saturday my wife and I crossed another item off our bucket list by going to see the street running trains in Lagrange. It goes without saying just how thrilled we were to see the train with 19 engines.

5 hours for that unique lash-up to go from La Grange to Covington. An hour and 10 minutes by car. Just shows you how trains are sometimes delayed. But interestng to see the same train on those two cameras.
Seems that curve at Ft, W. is a derail hazzard, seeing two other derails several months ago! And ,the dead loco group had a couple of 'Omaha goats' in it.- the bulb-nose SW's, rebuilt from SW7s in Omaha.
Look at all those beautiful fall colors on the trees. We don't get any of that here in South Florida, even my 3 native Red Maple trees turn straight to brown once a year with none of the fall colors.
Lol. This is like, the 6th or 7th derailment UP has had at Tower 55 just this year. I think it's because they keep trying to push triple-consist trains through it, and that interlocker just isn't big or sturdy enough for those.
BNSF SD70MACs 9790 at Roanoke and 9774 at Austell GA - thanks VRF 3 Trains at Elkhart, that curve makes for a real nice view. Good to see an EMD SD70M, UP 4583 - on the Point - at Chehalis. GP15 722 at Tucson looked very nice (Port St Joe Route had or have a GP15 722) Poor old Engines. No doubt as to where they are going, but I wonder which yard the train was assembled at?
My guess would be scrapped. With the emissions requirements, it is unlikely these units will be operational again. Respect for all the years of service they have put in.
The 3 BNSF engines at Roanoke at 15:30 were running shuttle service the other day - probably between Greensboro and Linwood North Carolina. The three went by Thomasville twice in "elephant" style. Went by in the morning and came back in the afternoon. Must have turned them on the wye in Salisbury. Looks like they are on the way home. Probably just turned the pumpkin some time later to avoid the wye.
I dunno. Maybe they could put bells and flashing lights on those gate thingys, so that people could look away from their phones long enough to avoid getting forcibly knighted? Just an idea.
5:15 Just an idea, you might want to notice those crossing gates ALREADY have lights, on standard and arm, and bells, electronic version at top of standard!
29:00 - UP has been selling off several ex Missouri Pacific GP15-1's. This one here apparently went to Iron Horse Resources and is sublettered for their San Pedro Valley Railroad based in Benson, AZ, presumably its destination.
I noticed what looked like a band new or refurbished caboose, which obviously is still in use because it had an aircondtioner on the roof. What are they used for nowadays?
The caboose at 0:20 was being used by the escort crew that insures proper handling/routing of the extremely valuable oversize/overweight load being transported. Escort service such as this, with military loads and use as "shoving platforms" (where crewmen direct long back up moves) are main uses of remaining cabooses in common carrier service.
I don't know about all the companies. But some of them will scrap all the cars if they are involved in a derailment. No matter how minor it is. Even if they just have the wheels fall off the track and it stays vertical. That way they don't have to be concerned if someone later has a problem with one of those cars. Then they try and sue the railroad saying it was probably caused when the train derailed.
I had to re-watch it, but I just noticed that UP 2928 is a Tunnel Motor, an SD40T-2 to be specific. Now I wonder if it was a former SP or a Rio Grande unit as they were the only Class-1 railroads to acquire the Tunnel Motors. Cotton Belt units count as SP units as Cotton Belt was an SP subsidiary.
We used to have SP tunnel motors run by my house. My Dad ordered the Athearn HO scale SD40T-2 version of an SP locomotive and surprised me with it, but he was disappointed that you couldn't see thru the grills like on the full size version; I bought some scale grilles for it and converted the body so that you could.
What was the cause of the derailment? Someone mentions in another comment that there was another derailment there not too long ago, should that curve have check rails installed?
The holy grail of CSX paint schemes, the YN1
I would purely love to see those sd45s working somewhere in the future. Saw them come through deshler this afternoon
Wish we could at least save the "Tunnel Motor."
@@robertf3479 dude is handsome
Don't know what Larry is going to do with them, but I hope many are preserved and somehow put back in service.
I’m thinking they’re all on their final journey. When seen around 22:36, open engine room doors reveal empty engine compartments.

I sincerely wish those SP units could be saved. Such an iconic RR back in the day. And, don't get me started on the Tunnel Motor. Great grab.
Great Grab Bag ! Parade of old Retired Engines! The Musical Sunrise Over Fort Madison! Can I Scream Now 😂😂
Wow! A Southern Pacific engine in KY!
Excellent catching all the trains, especially a beautiful sunrise in Fort Madison, Iowa, Virtual Railfan, thank you.
Wow! 19 locos in that funeral train…headed for the scrappers!
10:34 I can’t believe that old CSX 6995 Unit still had a Chessie System Nose
Beautiful sunrise and outro music!

They won't. Going to ltex. A scrapper. 😢
Love the VR camera in Austell GA . Brings back memories of watching trains as a kid growing up in and around town back in the 70s and 80s
Great choice of music added to a really great Grab Bag.
The three way at Elkhart @ 19:28 was almost a oh f moment looks like someone gonna be in trouble,I mean what a couple hundred feet apart dang

Nice caboose!
I’m just glad CSX is pulling 20 locomotives.
Squeals of joy! Is CSX taking all those switchers to the renovation shop? Nice reel. Thanks. Oh that longest wave was hilarious. Thanks again.
Love the rusty dead line being moved at LaGrange with flat spots...
Look at all those beautiful fall colors on the trees. We don't get any of that here in South Florida, even my 3 native Red Maple trees turn straight to brown once a year with none of the fall colors.

Are the used and abused locomotives passing through LaGrange headed to scrapping or rebuild?
probably scrap at LTEX.
Scrap
Are the old engines that went through Lagrange getting scrapped or used for parts?
They're already dead and don't know it. CSX 4287 doesn't even have a prime mover.
My guess would be scrapped. With the emissions requirements, it is unlikely these units will be operational again.
Respect for all the years of service they have put in.
Good work!! Thanks. .....
The funeral train was especially sad, as I've watched each one of the SD45s, in action in deeply dramatic contexts..
29:10 is like a GP38 Rio Valley Switching Co,RR
Nice sunrise ending
What happened to the 2 Amtrak engines? And what is the story on all of the old engines through La Grange?
Apparently the old engines are being moved to LTEX Rail (Larry’s Truck Electric) in Ohio.

Was that a police chase at 4:26? Looks like firearms discharging? Another brilliant video. Thank you.
can they seriously not find the issue with that tower 55 spot
A long curve with too many train forces.
It seems like the autoracks are causing the issues since the derailments at this spot almost always involve them.
Virtual Rainfan Grab Bag is my favorite show about trains and the people who love watching trains Thank You.❤❤

That A Funeral Train In 10:19
That's the second derailment at that curve in 2 months isn't it ?
Third?
I've watch them repairing the tracks all day and they are still at it. There are cars from the last derailment in the background.

12:20 This is the third time I've seen a derailment at tower 55 and everyone involved autorack cars.
Is that a dead train rolling? LTE?
Do they get a warning at first sign of trouble and it takes them that long to stop?
Some of those old locomotives haven't moved under their own power (or at all) for a very long time.
14:30 Waiting for the Chessie cat logo on this loco.
I love how the cars on the freeway are going 300 mph...😅
It would be my luck to have my car on one of the derailed carriers.

Does anyone know where all of the LTEX engines are going to?
Scrap
If you mean the Amtrak, I saw them being pulled into the repair shop in Indianapolis yesterday afternoon.
Most likely Lordstown, OH for scrap (All except for CSX 1234 since it’s still apart/ Active on the CSX Roster).
NS needs a hazmat train...
20:25 I was wondering if we'll ever get to see someone get married at Strasburg.

Suspect that sadly those SD45s are headed for scrap...
What happened with amtrak 17? Crossing accident?
Seems like there's always a derailment at tower 55, either there or Sante Fe Jct
Read my mind on that.
Long trains and right curves seem to be a bad combination.😂
Tehachapi is nearly as bad. There has been a number of derailments over that pass this year.
Revelstoke: He who hesitates is lost.😮
What do you use to fan the rails, a battery operated fan or a Japanese paper fan?

What was the cause of the derailment? Someone mentions in another comment that there was another derailment there not too long ago, should that curve have check rails installed?

What happend to the two amtrak units 17 and 84 look a little dinged up
Who is running the camera in Fort Worth? Zoom out a little
Larry's made a big sale.
More likely a buy as they are headed toward his facility in Lordstown, OH and have his LTEX report mark.
If I remember correctly, a train was derailed around that same spot before.
You dont see amtrak and freight engines lashed together too often...
Does Texas Eagle come thru here?
The Revelstoke bear should of greeted them on the other side

Could the cam operator not be able to follow the derailment? Other times like at KC Santa Fe Junction the action is followed.
cam was on auto at the time the derailment happened
