Our VRF Grab Bags (GB) videos are compiled from content from our cameras as Mods and fans spot something neat while watching our cameras. In the GB you will, of course, find a variety of TRAIN content, special trains, maintenance, steam, diesels, interesting rail cars, cool paint schemes and more. You will also find fun people, city events, boats, planes, cars (sometimes going wild) and nature. Thank you for taking the time to sit back and enjoy these highlight reels that we call "Grab Bags"!
I’ve seen plenty of Virtual Railfan Darwin Candidates before. But the group of them at 9:23 in this video really takes the cake!
To be perfectly honest, I would not be inclined to wait in the cold for the train to clear the tracks either.
Some folks are clumsy, some startled easily, some judge distance wrong, we're just trying to save lives if something would go wrong, and things do go wrong.@@Youll_Love_It_At_Levitz
@@Youll_Love_It_At_Levitzthen you’re one of those bleeps that put lives in danger as well
@@Youll_Love_It_At_Levitz Correct. There are plenty of documented instances of trains blocking crossings for 24 hours or more, preventing emergency service vehicles from getting to calls, keeping children from school, preventing people from going about there daily business. But unfortunately it would take a literal act of congress to fix the problem because the RRs have more power than any local municipality.
@kenm3245 Because you've never done something risky, particularly due to peer pressure, in your life.
I've rarely seen so many ads piling up on a YT video. Makes it very difficult to watch at lower bandwidths, but says a lot about the popularity of your channel. You're doing great!
I'll check into that. We need ads, but not to the point of ruining the experience, thanks.
Subscribe to RUclips and you won’t see ads. It’s a bargain considering the content library.
Weirdly, I didn’t see any… Could be because I am in the Netherlands?
Two clips pf the Golden Swoosh! Very nice.
0:12 BNSF inspection train passes a lot of Amazon containers
1:04 13-car BNSF OCS
1:46 CSX and KCS doubleheader in Wichita
3:00 BN green sD60M leading with new bridge pieces
3:20 BNSF 7695 leading (again at 8:16)
5:26 I've never seen a VPRX tanker before! This VP Racing Fuel tanker would look good in a model train
5:48 CSX 1869 trailing on the Tropicana Juice Train stuck on the front of an intermodal
6:16 NS 3955 came from KCS, which was an ex-BNSF unit
6:26 MOW equipment at night
7:04 East Penn Railroad locomotives
7:23 Amtrak 161 "Arrow" trailing on the Sunset Limited
8:00 the Lake Shore Limited with the cafe car right behind the crew sleeper and two extra baggage cars on the rear
9:23 eight Darwins at once! If this isn't a sign Revelstoke needs a pedestrian bridge, I don't know what is!
11:35 old passenger car, seems to be ex-Saratoga & North Creek
11:54 WOW! an MKT hopper! Not much ex-Katy equipment is left in its original paint, as UP repainted them quickly after the merger
12:12 train makes an emergency stop when it's night out and doesn't move until morning
13:53 the East Tennesee Railcar passenger cars again
16:12 BNSF 3773 with an LNG fuel tender and an inspection train. 5815, 9130, and 9131 are the only LNG-powered BNSF locomotives but they have five LNG tenders. Two tankers and three well cars.
17:43 UP safety inspection boxcar! Something I've never seen before
17:53 Western Pacific boxcar. Don't see too many of those compared to MoPac cars
19:17 LEF&C hopper
20:06 UP 1988 leading a welded rail train
22:00 NS 1072 and 1070 still doubleheading!
22:10 UP 1943 leading an oil train with a MoPac hopper as the barrier car. I'm surprised there's no barrier car in front of the rear DPUs
22:47 Cotton Belt (St. Louis Southwestern) hopper car
23:38 Boxcars in Monon-esque liveries! Monon had both red and gray for Indiana University and black and gold for Purdue
23:51 LA Metrolink cars on the Southwest Chief heading to Talgo in Wisconsin for refurbishment
Happy Birthday to AJ.
Missed the P&LE gondola at 19:32, a very rare sight
Yes I did, great catch!
Lots of snow in those mountains.
UP 1988 SD70ACe 'The Katy' sure looked nice and mean the way she came around that curve at Hesperia.
NS Heritage Locos, 'Illinois Terminal' and 'Wabash', seem to be paired together at the moment, like a happy couple.
Best greeting from San Juan Capistrano.
I love Grab Bag!
Bless Camper Mike, he's a hoot and a good guy
9:23 When I was in Smiths Falls for the CP Holiday Train there was the tail end of a freight train waiting for the mainline to clear. Without warning the train began moving and because of the slack action the tail end went from a dead stop to 5mph instantly and picked up speed quickly.
I bet the slack scared the absolutely heck out of you
22:10 Amazing Snow!
Must be a first, 7695, Golden Swoosh, twice in one video!
And on point, too!
For the first few minutes it's the usual BNSF show. But wow, Big Sandy made it in the GB 4x this run! That's unusual.
Love our little Jonesboro, TN web cam.
great video wow 6 of Darwins
The Darwins probably coming back from the local watering hole.
They do that a lot at that location. But that's the worst episode I've seen. Sigh...
Very nice videos like them all and catching the Nickel Plate and New York Central
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in multiple locations, especially the BNSF military train with battle tanks, UP1943 in Arvada, Colorado, a coyote in Tucson, Arizona, and so much more, @Virtual Railfan, I like them all, thank you very much.
Don't forget the blue racing fuel tanker in Tucson as well. VR Racing Fuels " Our Passion is Your Performance".
The ones I saw weren't MBTs, they were M2 Bradleys. M1A* are almost always on green DOD flatcars with 6 axles.
@@wjr Really?
@@the-terrible63 I live east of Ft Riley. We see tanks, afvs, tank retrievers, howitzers, etc. every couple of months. MBTs are always on 6 axle flatcars because of their weight.
@@wjr Nice.
Wow two golden Swoosh sightings, Katy, double heritage and up 1943. One of the best grab bags I’ve seen in a hot minute
At 10:35 its a darwin family reunion ,,,,lol
Really enjoyed seeing the "LEF&C" boxes roll through - the 'Lake Erie, Franklin, and Clarion' used to operate in my hometown area. I lived eight miles from Franklin and twenty miles from Clarion. When I was older, I moved and lived in Erie for many years and enjoyed hours on and at the lake.
Thank you, VR, for the spark of some pleasant memories I had not relived for too many years!!
19:34, a P&LE gondola! Great accidental catch!
There's CamperMike ! Sadie must let him off the leash. Hey,the MKT hopper. So many great railroads passed on into history.
Wow another great Grab bag, Thank you! And them Darwins, one of these days! And the emergency brake, love having my headphones on for these special moments but know it's tuff on the crew, that was a lot of banging! Love and hugs VRF!
I dig the VP Race Fuel car. I have never seen one before
7:21 amazing amtrak train with my favroite p42
Friday Night in Revelstoke ... if you've been there, you'll know what i mean
Well if you look up the old-English meaning of Revelstoke, you'll find that it means something like "party cabin" lol. And yes indeed, I do know what you mean.
I guess crawling over and going under stopped or just barely moving trains is what all the cool kids do now days. I've seen a lot of videos of that lately. It's just a matter of time before the cool kids pay dearly for that.
*Nice Catches*
Cool train👍
Awesome Video!
🌲🎊🇮🇳🎊🌲
Seven Albertastan mouth breathers, no doubt !
Wow, 6 Darwins in that one shot. Great Grab Bag, though.
And 8 total.
Peer pressure will do that. All of us have done something ill-advised because of it.
hello Virtual Rsilfan & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Virtual Railfan & Friends Randy
Taking a bow of DARWIN MENTAL STUPIDITY 😮.
Even the bear 🐻 knows better.
Well almost. He did get hit by a car once (and lived to tell about it!).
Nice footage on Katy EMD, cwr train in Hesperia, nice video!🛤🚂
2:41 lol Hi Guy!
Members of Possum Lodge?
🤣Haven't thought of the Possum Lodge in years! Miss Red and the gang
Those were Bradley IFV tanks, if I'm not mistaken. Nice catch
When you follow a train, for example the Katy with the star on its nose, are you sitting in a room with controls for all the cameras and following it in real time? Or, do you review the recordings later and do the panning and zooming in editing? Are there many employees monitoring 24/7 , or is one guy doing it all? Just curious how it all works to capture so many great shots. Thanks.
We have many Mods that are camera operators, but we do some of the zooming or moving in the video editing stage. Visit one of our many live camera locations, and if you see a Mod (Blue Wrench/Spanner by their name), talk with them. Also, some of the cameras are run by Cam-Ops, they do not have a Blue Wrench.
5:28 if that tanker is filled with race fuel that's one expensive tanker... cuz just 5 gallons race gas (nitromethane) is like $320
1:05 How would you like to have this train on your model railroad?
9:25 - Response of this? ‘Herd Mentality’
You see these people climb under the tanker cars. And the crossing still continues with bells dinging and the train been idling on the crossing for *HOW long? HOURS!?*
Magnificent trains, train fans, cute animals and much, much more
I just hope there aren't any Darwin Candidates in this Thank You.
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲🇨🇦💨
7:15 ESPN oh thats funny right there
9:00 what was the Golden Swoosh on? If coal I might sees it thru my area
14:25 CDPX = Chevron USA, Inc.
Leading an intermodal
@@PastorKwangle ok darn Still may see it here
😀👍
The scene from Oklahoma, do they have that many people on these trains or do you know if this was an equipment move?
9:23 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
What does PTZ mean?
Pan, Tilt, Zoom. It's a camera controlled with a joystick or other controllers.
But where's the roadrunner? :-)
Brilliant video, lots of shorter clips.
At 20:30 track looked to have no ties (We call them sleepers in UK), not seen that before.
Deep ballast.
Where are the BNSF Office Cars home based & maintained?
topeka
How do they know where the cameras are? See quite a few VR fans waving? Who operate the panning and zooming of the cameras?
So I looked up CDPX and it says it is Chevron. It doesn't make sense that Chevron would have some old passenger cars.
Golden Swoosh is also over publicized.
check out the hover train at 6:50
I disagree that they're Darwins. That one train in Texas sat for 3 hrs. Were they supposed to wait and see IF the train moved?
Revelstroke is a crew change spot. The train stops at that crossing very frequently and is usually less than 15 to 20 mins, if I recall. Even so, the potential for a few hrs milling around a crossing grade or finding a different way home isn't worth the potential loss of life/limb. 🤷♀️
Stopping a train on a crossing is asking for Darwin behaviour. Surely train control can stop it either side of the crossing, what happens if emergency services need to cross.
Why would a freight train be stopped for over a minute in Revelstoke at 11:30 in the evening? No wonder people crawl over and under.
All trains stop there for crew changes.
At least the Darwins had sense not to scoot under near the wheels.
In countries like the UK, the maximum length of a freight train is what can fit into the space between two crossings. Because, well, people and communities are more important than freight train profits.
It shouldn’t take long for two crew members get off and two more get on.@@norfolksouthernrailfan2006
Dum dum and dumber, great vids
Love all your vids! At 12.02 just after the mkt goes off... in the lower left corner someone walks out and look like they have a mask on. or is that just the lighting that makes it look like a mask over the persons face? just odd.
lighting, no mask.
12:02
Darwin herd
9:10, 7:10, 14:20
How long before a Darwin "Candidate" becomes a "Winner"?
Hope to watch later...
Things not going well...
Awesome business trains!!!
At 14:40 didn't the graffiti make the passenger coaches look dirty and scruffy?
18:23 who is aj
Engineers son.
The amount of military equipment moving across the country lately is alarming. You’d think we were at war or something
What size Army unit would have that many Bradleys? Battalion? Regiment?
The military moves equipment to and from Fort Irwin training center in California on a regular basis. In this case, the train of Bradleys was headed to Pennsylvania for refurbishment. You may have noticed they all had their gun barrels removed.
Darwin candidates? Maybe. Have a life, somewhere to go and something to do? Apparently YES
Hate to say it but one of these days a Darwin candidate will push their luck too far and tbe cam footage will be sad indeed!
It already happened on the Parkville cam, but they didn't show it to the public. They showed the clip to law enforcement.
@@J3scribe And honestly I dont want to see it! But it's bound to happen.
10:25, well they are Canadians, look at their leader!
161, pointless arrow.
A lot of you could really benefit from having more danger in your life.
Golden Swoosh is over rated.
Hey, I count cars on trains, and I counted 13 passenger cars on that amtrak train! 😮 Did I miss count, or did railroads change their policy about never running 13 car passenger trains? 🚆 😮 You know the bad luck superstitious thing! 🤔
My bad, it was a BNSF engine pulling the train at about 1:20 into the video!
That was NOT an Amtrak train at 1:05 but a movement of a large portion of the BNSF office car fleet to, during, or from a move for one of their officials use treks.
@gferraro8353 Third car is a baggage car converted with generators installed to provide HEP (head end electrical "hotel" power) for the passenger consist. That train is a large portion of the BNSF office car fleet for executive, customer outings, promotional trips, etc.
@@kennethhanks6712 I see you didn't read to the end of my comment! I corrected my statement.
@jamesdenny4734 Don't mean to be too "picky" but your last sentence only stated BNSF engine pulling train, but did not mention consist was not Amtrak. There have been numerous Amtrak trains (lately) that have had non-Amtrak power.
@kennethhanks6712 "it was a BNSF engine pulling the train." That's not good enough. Does it really matter. When I first saw the train, I thought I saw an amtrak engine. When I went back to make sure I saw it was not amtrak!
