LakeForkGuy has actually been around fishing long enough to understand "price." Whether you don't want to spend $400 or can't, there is an old adage everyone ought to remember: "Things that only the wealthy can afford now, will be available to a much wider audience within just a few years." So, it used to be that only the wealthy had autos, now most people do; it used to be that only the wealthy had granite counter-tops in their homes, now many people do . . . flying on airlines, cell phones, going to college, nice vacations, the list is endless. You get the point: they develop these leading-edge products, they are expensive . . . but the $100 reel you are fishing with today is likely better than most anything out there from even a decade ago. These technologies are coming to you and fast, for lower prices if you decide to wait. So, the more the merrier. Brad
I bought 8 of the 07' metanium MG reels from Japan and love them, they have the screw in spool piece that keeps stress off the gears and side plate, I'm not confident they will ever make another reel that good and solid.
I can only calculate your second cast because the first retrieve seems to have an edit in it but your second cast based on 35" per revolution, you cast that second one out there 80 yards! DAMN!!!!!
I just bought the Metanium and it is by far the best reel I have ever owned. I have been fishing with it for just a couple months and I think its worth every penny. I put it on a new 7.6 St Croix MH and it will cast a very long distance. Thanks for your videos.
The Metanium MGL is the awesomest baitcaster I have ever owned . I have the XG model and MGL the XG is 8 5 to 1 mgl 6 to 2 . I can cast a 1 10 ounce ned rig with 15 pound flurocarbon , used with my medium light smoke baitcasting rod it is one of my new favorite technique's . I love these reel's . I put my anything on it , I am not rich and I am still very happy I saved and waited to have enough money to buy theme . I also have the xg on a 7 foot ST. Croix legend xtreme , for your all around combo , Texas rig big worm's . Jig's , Spinnerbait's , Chatterbait's , Rattletrap's , can also Carolina some despite 7 foot and some crankbaiting it is awesome setup all around . I am only 5/7 so the over 7 footer's just get uncomfortable for me . But I have found with the Metanium and ST CROIX to be the top quality for high price to be true . I am not wealthy , just worked and waited to save up for my bass dream setup that is all . I say the quality is worth it !
I bought the Metanium MLG around July, 2018. Was so hard to hit the “BUY” key when I ordered it. Almost threw up! Spooled it with Suffix 832 30# white and went fishing. On first cast I said out loud “that felt good”. Couple of cranks in and my thoughts went to “What do I have to sell to buy another one of these?” Still only have one but I use it more than any other rod/reel combo. I have caught tons of bass, pickerel & northern pike on it. Largest Muskie I boated with it was 46”. Your review helped convince me to buy this reel. Was just in the Florida Keys and used it for in-Shore fishing. Worked great but it is a small spool and not a ton of line capacity. Problem is I just love casting this reel. One note: keep it lubed right to get maximum performance. My measurement on if I like something is: Would I buy it again if I lost/broke it? This reel is awesome and I do not regret this purchase.
I've fished this reel for the past 3 months (purchased from japanlureshop) along with the steez sv. I prefer the steez, it cast lighter baits better. I also have the '13 metanium & casting distance isn't that much noticeable. BUT if I was a shimano rep, I'd say the same things you are. Tight lines!
I'm with most people. If you fish for a living. Spend the money on the best. The rest of us buy the best we can afford. Which seems to be less then $200 on a reel from all the comments. How about do a review on the best $100-200 range reel also being released at icast. Keep the majority of your subscribers drooling at that price point as well. Love your vids. Keep up the great work.
It's my pitching and casting jig set ups mostly but it can used on a variety of baits. I pick my high end reels with ultra high gear performance to go on my Texas rig and jog set ups because it's s lot of wrenching on fish hard
If you're fishing every day, or you're a tournament angler, then these things are worth the cost. However, if you're just a guy who fishes 2 or 3 times a week, there's really no need for anything over $200. The added features on more expensive reels are nice, and casting distance is certainly improved...but they don't catch more fish. The most expensive reel I own is a Lew's Tournament PRO-G that was $180 on sale. It's $200 on TWH -- and I got it as a Christmas Gift. It's better than my $100 Lew's Speed Spool, but could I live without it and just use that cheaper reel? Yes. The only way I'll be spending $400+ on a high end Shimano is if I find myself in a situation where I have nothing else I need, and I get a big xmas bonus or something lol. I also just bought my 3rd Lew's, the Tournament MB.. for like $130. Awesome reel at an awesome price. Has all the features you'd ever need, casts great, and won't break the bank. I'm not knocking anyone who wants to go out and buy a $400 Shimano. They're fantastic pieces of hardware. I've owned multiple Shimanos, just not the high high end ones. I have the Curado 200I as well, and it's pretty much equal in performance to my pro-G. I've just been on a serious Lew's kick for the past 2 years or so. Great products.
What's up +LakeForkGuy ! It's Pearce with the D7 today from FTU. I'm definitely buying the MgL, what're your thoughts on the Zodias? I like the look and somewhat the weight but I heard it had some problems with the tip breaking.
geezus can they put a fine tune brake adjuster on the outside like the curado? hate taking off the plate to adjust brakes and i want the outside plate attached so i dont loose it off the boat! also how much line do these hold? man its hard to beat a 200ihg curado!!
+Jake R the new curado is do good. don't let the red brake pads scare you off they work fine. the best thing about shimano is the aftermarket tuning options. live my curado
I am thinking about learning to baitcast. Should I get a less expensive one to learn on or a better reel? I am kind of intimidated. Let me know, thanks
Hey buddy i know this is an old post but i hope you see this comment. I am about to buy an aldabaren for a finesse set up but also considering this metanium. It will be for wrightless worms and light texas rigs mostly. Which do you prefer? You like the metanium better? Casts further? Breaks better?
DK Dice metanium seems like it would work best on heavy setups The aldabaren is top notch for lighter rigs and jigging setups because of the sensitivity
Check out eBay or Google it in online Japan tackle shops, it's already out there and cheaper than buying it in America due to the favorable exchange rate.
is that a sportex rod? i am telling you to try one out i dont know how good they are for american fish... but for european it is the best i have ever tried better than shimano or daiwa. my favorid one is the Air Spin i just got it 2 months ago and am waiting for the spring to wake the pikes and perches up i tried it november 2017 in a fishingcamp and fell in love so hard i nearly left my wife for it :D but then i remembered that this wouldnt make it my rod Have Fun and a good one from Germany :)
Since ive only been fishing for the past year, How much better is a $400 reel as opposed to a $250 reel? sure the construction is better but is it really worth it?
Unless you are an absolute savant, you would be better off paying less than $100 on a reel and put the other three hundred something toward a guide. That touted 10% performance increase doesn't mean anything if you cannot absolutely find fish and have several basic presentations mastered. Fishing with (hopefully) a master would be a hell of a lot more valuable than ten feet of casting distance.
It better be one bad ass reel for 420 bucks, You can get a really nice rod/reel/line and maybe a few lures for that much. Most of us don't have the privilege of having companies send us reels lol. I just bought a Lews bb2 speed spool, Powell Max 3D pitching rod and some PLine and still didn't spend 420 bucks lol. The reel does look very nice tho.
The Tranx looks and feels like an XL Curado I. It offers twice the spool size (Tranx 300 Vs Metanium 150) and more Drag at 22lbs vs Metaniums 11lbs. Also, the Tranx weighs significantly more than the Metanium at 11.6 oz. vs. 6.6 oz. and does not have Micromodule gearing. The Tranx would probably be great for Inshore fishing but might be overkill for anything outside of XL Swimbaits in Bass fishing.
No , I have a deep spool 4 7 ratio bass pro shop's pro qualifier that handles that chore great for 100 dollar's . But no it is not as smooth or near as light as a Metanium nor cast's light and medium , or deep diver's near as far . Many swimbaiter's love the round reel Calcutta by Shimano I know that for a fact !
'Love Shimano in general - especially on my mountain bikes - but how can you call a reel that has no external adjustment for the primary braking system "extreme performance"? When I do a 180 in my boat and am now casting *into* the wind instead of *with* the wind, I shouldn't have to take the whole side plate off just to add a brake or two. That could allow rain or dust to enter the reel and introduces the possibility of dropping the side plate. Adjusting the brakes shouldn't require disassembling part of the reel.
Andrew Costen exactly! ive seen people drop the shimano side plates off into tbe water fishing!! never getting that back!! thats why i have never upgraded my curado...
The Lamborghini of fishing reels... High performance and out of most peoples pay grade - Shimano. That would be the correct advertisement for this reel. Looks good though.
FIshing 4LYFE the curado is better than the metanium in this video i think! outside adjusting no plates falling off the boat or water n dust to get inside... the curado is damn near perfect havnt found the need to upgrade, and for the price i would rather have 2 or 3 curados to outfit more rods than one single hype train metanium thats for sure!
no. the E's are also plastic where the D's were all metal for better stiffness and gear tolerances under pressure. although i think the 300E is metal and it's the only one they kept in the lineup and still sell today. the 300E is basically the 200D.
littlegoobie dude you have no idea what you're talking about, they are made with an aluminum frame. The E series is still a lot better than some newer competing brands.

im still using my first baitcaster I got when I was a kid why do people think new reels going to help you throw farther lmao like me going play golf guys has bought ever new driver came out an I still take my old driver an out drive them lmao its either you got great muscle transfer speed or you don't
Sure athe entry price 419.99USD$ it should be the latest and the best conpare to similar SHIMANO REEL. I don't thing comparable to the Casistas or curado70 is reality Lakeforguy. I own a casista and a Curado200 And WOW the technologie is wow. I wish in my dream that I can give it a try , but not in my budget. I canada with the Exchange would be around 540$ :( Nice Vid by the way Patrick
Rob H Shimano's are great but any reel for one hundred is gong to have a few low-end parts thrown in. You can't bash a budget reel for cutting a few corners. I've taken the LFS 100% apart and it was built fine.

In the autumn, too, I want to try casting
JL Outdoors Ok, thanks ; )
Title makes it sound like it sucks
on point lmao
Baddest means badass
+Cameron Line I know I realized that after watching the video
It's called clickbait.
thats just how he talks
I have a 2015 Metanium HG Digital Control model which is by far the best and most expensive reel I've ever purchased.

I got mines two month earlier through eBay from Japan 100 bucks cheaper before it hit the US market, I loved it.

Buy now for the low price of your first born son!
The Antares DC 16 will probably blow your mind then! It has the digital breaking and is freaking amazing.
looks as good as it gets, man!
excellent reel my Christmas present to myself this year.
Can it be used for saltwater applications ?
What applications do you like to use your metanium for? And what kind of line do you like to use with it?

Fifty0ne $200 & below lews is the best, over $200 definitely daiwa/shimano
Just bought one for half of the retail price. Can't wait to try it out
PCM24 97 Where at?
Lies lies lies, yeaya....
What's up +LakeForkGuy ! It's Pearce with the D7 today from FTU. I'm definitely buying the MgL, what're your thoughts on the Zodias? I like the look and somewhat the weight but I heard it had some problems with the tip breaking.
Lakeforkguy is this the reel that makes that really sweet noise when casting like the shimano antres dc?
geezus can they put a fine tune brake adjuster on the outside like the curado? hate taking off the plate to adjust brakes and i want the outside plate attached so i dont loose it off the boat! also how much line do these hold? man its hard to beat a 200ihg curado!!
Shimano, already the best, duah!
The most I've spent on a reel so far $175 and it was a 13 fishing concept a, I just don't have the money for some of those reels.
yea its almost $500!
Yea same, concept A is the most expensive I have bought. And I got it on sale too.
Have the same thing - gets the job done but I would love try Shimano. Probably going to pickup a Curado as my next just to compare the two
***** Same man, I hear everyone rave about shimano but have never tried their stuff that much.
+Jake R the new curado is do good. don't let the red brake pads scare you off they work fine. the best thing about shimano is the aftermarket tuning options. live my curado
I'm saving up for the shimano curado, which is around the same price as the 13 fishing concept a.
I know this dosent have anything to do with the video but I was wondering what type of line you use for your worm fishing?
What's a good bait for stained water with a lot of cypress trees everywhere ? Please help been using a watermelon senko but want something new
When I saw the title "Baddest baitcaster" I thought I was gonna see the worst baitcaster😂😂
I am thinking about learning to baitcast. Should I get a less expensive one to learn on or a better reel? I am kind of intimidated. Let me know, thanks
What the weight on the the reel now? Also With the new upgrade what size is it? Is it still the same size 100 or 150
Hey buddy i know this is an old post but i hope you see this comment. I am about to buy an aldabaren for a finesse set up but also considering this metanium. It will be for wrightless worms and light texas rigs mostly. Which do you prefer? You like the metanium better? Casts further? Breaks better?

Wheres the fkin criticism? Lakefork guy baddest youtuber ever
this guy is a shimano rep. LEW's ALL DAY
I take it you like Shimano, but what's your view on 13 fishing reels?
would you choose this reel over the curado 200i series? still debating on which one I want
+Andrew Rivera for sure
What rod is that?!?!? The looks cool
shimano zodias
Check out eBay or Google it in online Japan tackle shops, it's already out there and cheaper than buying it in America due to the favorable exchange rate.
You can weigh up spool?
I'm trying to decide whether or not to get this or a shimano exsence dc, could anyone give me some details on which you think would be better
Did you try the new Steez Sv TW
Tried it a month ago, buddy got it from Japan, idk I got the metanium dc, I still think the dc is better jus my thoughts
They come with DC?
nice. what kind of rod is that and wat length?
shimano zodias
Where does it say that the metanium has a magnesium body?
What is projected price point for this reel?
i have metanium z-pride(tuned by zpi)fishing for racing
what rod are you using in that video sir?
What rod do you have it matched up with?
is that a sportex rod? i am telling you to try one out i dont know how good they are for american fish... but for european it is the best i have ever tried better than shimano or daiwa. my favorid one is the Air Spin i just got it 2 months ago and am waiting for the spring to wake the pikes and perches up i tried it november 2017 in a fishingcamp and fell in love so hard i nearly left my wife for it :D but then i remembered that this wouldnt make it my rod
Have Fun and a good one from Germany :)
Do they have these left handed?
what would you use this reel for?
im planning to get it.
Bro where did you get that shirt
Since ive only been fishing for the past year, How much better is a $400 reel as opposed to a $250 reel? sure the construction is better but is it really worth it?
Just get a shimano Curado pretty similar and 300 dollars less
I have 2 curados and they are my favorite! Def recomend them. But if u want to spend a little more get the chronarch
Unless you are an absolute savant, you would be better off paying less than $100 on a reel and put the other three hundred something toward a guide. Sam Martin sometimes you just pay for the name.
are you not cool if you cast your baitcaster straight over your head? I've noticed all these fishing guys cast sideways. i can't cast as far that way
I'll take that used one in the video for half price.
+Adrian Escobar ain't gettin mine, lol
+Adrian Escobar ain't gettin mine, lol
+LakeForkGuy worth a shot
LakeForkGuy can you do an in-depth review for it?
LakeForkGuy I guess I'll take it off your hands..
Dose it have a digital chip
Can you use this reel for saltwater
Anyone happen to know what rod this is? Thanks.
Dude, what rod is that!?
It's a Shimano Zodias. I've held them before and they are super cool looking and extremely light weight.
does it compare to the Daiwa Steez TWS
yes and no the steez is more expensive and cast smoother because of the tws but if you want a truly elegant reel get the mgl.
Sean Chang get both!
I don't like the brakes. I find I need to thumb more with brakes. i don't know maybe its just the way to cast.
whats the difference between this reel and the Tranx 300?
The Tranx looks and feels like an XL Curado I. It offers twice the spool size (Tranx 300 Vs Metanium 150) and more Drag at 22lbs vs Metaniums 11lbs. Also, the Tranx weighs significantly more than the Metanium at 11.6 oz. vs. 6.6 oz. and does not have Micromodule gearing. The Tranx would probably be great for Inshore fishing but might be overkill for anything outside of XL Swimbaits in Bass fishing.
Thanks bud!
Is it made in Japan?
Is this reel durable enough to throw 2-4 ounce swimbaits on?
No , I have a deep spool 4 7 ratio bass pro shop's pro qualifier that handles that chore great for 100 dollar's . But no it is not as smooth or near as light as a Metanium nor cast's light and medium , or deep diver's near as far . Many swimbaiter's love the round reel Calcutta by Shimano I know that for a fact !
'Love Shimano in general - especially on my mountain bikes - but how can you call a reel that has no external adjustment for the primary braking system "extreme performance"? Andrew Costen exactly! ive seen people drop the shimano side plates off into tbe water fishing!! never getting that back!! thats why i have never upgraded my curado...
daiwa tatula ct...Awesome reel. smooth like butter
The Lamborghini of fishing reels... High performance and out of most peoples pay grade - Shimano. That would be the correct advertisement for this reel. Looks good though.
How much does it go for?
Anyone have an opinion on the curado?
FIshing 4LYFE the curado is better than the metanium in this video i think! outside adjusting no plates falling off the boat or water n dust to get inside... the curado is damn near perfect havnt found the need to upgrade, and for the price i would rather have 2 or 3 curados to outfit more rods than one single hype train metanium thats for sure!
But... Does it have a flux capacitor? Not worth it without one of those.
Are you planning to go back in time and win the first Bassmaster Classic, perhaps?
this reel has a magnesium frame and crank side plate only the palming side plate is carbon
LFG what rod is that
Shimano Zodias....
$420 is a "HIGH" (see what I did there) price point! It better be the best real ever for that!!
It is for many thing's man . It is amazing I got 2 .
rigid metal frame + sideplate. ...exactly. that's was my first criticism of the plastic curado E's. the only curado gen i would not buy.
littlegoobie you mean g series...
no. the E's are also plastic where the D's were all metal for better stiffness and gear tolerances under pressure. although i think the 300E is metal and it's the only one they kept in the lineup and still sell today. the 300E is basically the 200D.
littlegoobie dude you have no idea what you're talking about, they are made with an aluminum frame. The E series is still a lot better than some newer competing brands.
you're the one without a clue. check the sides...
littlegoobie I have looked and they're aluminum, look them up online and a lot of people will tell you the same thing.
This is what I have right now. So happy hahaha
I cant realy afford anything more than $100 my reel is still in perfect condition and ive had it for 3 years still works smoothly
I was thinking when he was reeling it in a big ass bass was gonna hit it or something 😂
The gold diawa 100 will cast farther and smoother then anything out there and it costs 60 bucks
Hmmm, I'm out of rod space on my wall - guess i need to give my son a rod/reel and get a new one!
im your son ship one over i like the shimano chronarch
im your son ship one over i like the shimano chronarch
+kidbehindbars dumbass
Sick!
Wish I could get that
Die beste Rolle die ich seit einem Jahr angle ist die Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG👍
you know they getting reels free posting video before they come out lmao
Right
lol, what's a good intro baitcaster? I've never used one before. Something less than $50 if possible?
Pay $110 dollars and get a shimano casitas. I used it for awhile and like it alot. Prob the best in the sub 150$ price range
I think you need to step up to around 100 in order to get a decent one. Pro Qualifier and Lews LFS Speed Spool are good ones at that price.
+TheBushwooky no lewd
Black or Silver Max. 50$. Perfect starter rig
The diawa Laguna is only $60 and is really good I have been using it for a year and it is better than some of the higher end reels on the market
It's the law to reveal when you are paid by a company to promote their products. This includes receiving anything of value, such as the gear you are "reviewing," free apparel, money to cover the costs of production, etc.
I'd hope it cast that far with that 3lb weight on the end.
Buying myself the dc.
It's going on a g.loomis imx pro
Love has wearing the g.loomis hat and talking about a metanium.
My fuckin boy....
im still using my first baitcaster I got when I was a kid why do people think new reels going to help you throw farther lmao like me going play golf guys has bought ever new driver came out an I still take my old driver an out drive them lmao its either you got great muscle transfer speed or you don't
How much does it cost?
$420
309 on eBay from Japan, that's where I got mines
Sure athe entry price 419.99USD$ it should be the latest and the best conpare to similar SHIMANO REEL. I don't thing comparable to the Casistas or curado70 is reality Lakeforguy. I own a casista and a Curado200 And WOW the technologie is wow. I wish in my dream that I can give it a try , but not in my budget. I canada with the Exchange would be around 540$ :(
Nice Vid by the way
Patrick
Does anyone own the Japanese version of this reel? Is there any difference besides the manual being in a different language and over $100 cheaper?
Gene is weighing in in the background
Hey can you check out my channel
Looks like my lews speed spool is smaller, more compact and can cast just as smooth...for a fraction of the price!
I have two and they aren't very smooth after a year but when you first get them they are smooth
Yea, mine started to become a little less smooth after about a year, started making noises too. But I cleaned it myself and it is better than new now.
BadContrakt Hey, it works and is affordable. Also not sure what the plastic garbage comment was about considering it has a 1 piece aluminum frame...
ive had a lews. shimanos r built so much better
Rob H Shimano's are great but any reel for one hundred is gong to have a few low-end parts thrown in. You can't bash a budget reel for cutting a few corners. I've taken the LFS 100% apart and it was built fine.
i love me some high end reels but rods are a better investment.
omg 420 $ for a reel with centrifugal brake? it will cost 3 times if it is ship into sea area.
Aldebaran cost 420 $ in here lol.
i wish i could afford one of those
same
i see people all over youtube put them cheap reels down an i been using mine over 40 years tell me what company can say that lol
Are you joking me dude that thing is noice
400 buck! Pick up 4 of many other choices for that price!
