    Before you buy one of these $400 + reels I strongly recommend you open up the side plate off, look at the gears, and see how they lightened the weight of these reels up so much.

  • @sgtpavlov

    That reel is nice,but if I was going to drop that amount of money,I'd be getting the JDM Aldebaran BFS,or maybe the calcutta conquest BFS HG. I'd put either BFS reel on an Ultralight rated 5'6" casting rod, that has a nice soft noodle whip action,with 6 pound fireline on the reel. I'd use that to chuck light 1/32 oz jigs with 2" curl tail grubs under trees and such,for panfish,and whatever else would grab it,and other light baits I'd use. All hail BFS fishing! There are quite a number of people that use these ultra light casting rods and reels,fishing for trout on streams. It's awesome.

    • @sgtpavlov
      @sgtpavlov 6 лет назад

      Sweswio well, it doesn't have to be real expensive. There are cheap rods that will work just fine for BFS, and you can get after market shallow light spools, for existing popular reels, like the tatula ct. There is also the Chinese Tsurinoya xf50 reel, that comes with a shallow spool, and handles light lures out of the box, without needing upgrades. This cheap reel can be had for 56-70$ depending on where you buy it from. It's not going to handle like a shimano, but it will get the job done for BFS. There are a number of BFS youtubers that have done reviews on the xf50, and find it acceptable. I even have one.

  • @Rascallucci
    @Rascallucci 9 лет назад

    This is strictly a bass reel. You can't even cast a heavy lure with it cos you will spool yourself. Tackle Tour did a review on the 2012 Antares and they were already saying they were getting spooled on 50 lbs braid and the Aldebaran's line capacity is even lower. I fish inshore and the lightest lure I use is like 1 1/2 oz, so this reel is definitely off my list. If I must go low profile, I will probably go with the Chronarch Ci4+.

      Shimano should get the aldebaran in 200 size

    • @silva0186
      @silva0186 9 лет назад

      daniel gomes the Aldebaran is the JDM version of the Core 50 and the Metanium is the JDM version of the Core 100, so they'll probably come out with a 2015 Metanium 100 and it will be like this except in a 100 size. JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. So basically the Aldebaran and Metanium are what Shimano releases in Japan and the Core 50 and 100 is what Shimano releases here in the USA.

      No would I especially if you are fishing land-based. The line cap alone or the lack of it is a big issue. But, if you are fishing freshwater from a bass boat using light baits or pitching and flipping then it is a joy to use, it is incredibly light and smooth.

    • @cceynar94
      @cceynar94 10 лет назад

      LilAznFishinDude well technically it doesn't rust cause its not iron or steel but it does corrode extremely fast if saltwater gets to it.

    • @dolucks1
      @dolucks1 10 лет назад +3

      Of course it costs more. Lews are cookie cutter reels made by Doyo in Korea along side revos, bps, and pfluegers. Lews just designs their reels from what's available from the Doyo catalog. Shimano develops, designs, and manufacturer their own reels in their own factories.

    • @silva0186
      @silva0186 9 лет назад +1

      Cody Ceynar Straight magnesium might rust from contact with saltwater but do you actually think Shimano would make and release a saltwater approved magnesium reel if any kind of oxidation was a threat to it? First off, the magnesium Shimano's uses in this reel is what they call super magnesium and it's a treated magnesium that doesn't oxidize as easily as normal magnesium from contact with saltwater and second, they coat their magnesium framed reels with some kind of clear coat, so it doesn't matter if it rusts, corrodes, or oxidizes from contact with saltwater b/c saltwater will never touch the actual magnesium. I had one of the best reels ever made, the Shimano Chronarch 51mg , and it obviously had a magnesium frame and corrosion of any kind was never a problem at all. It weighed 5.9 oz.'s and was so absolutely amazing. B/c it was so light weight and b/c it also had a very light weight drilled spool, it would cast any tiny lure so far that it was absolutely insane. It'd cast normal size lures a mile too, but b/c Shimano used magnesium for the frame, there was the extra option to be able to finesse fish with a baitcaster, which is so much fun. Magnesium is very expensive, that's why most company's don't use it, it's a very high end material and for you to say that "Lew's isn't made of magnesium like this" like that's a compliment is pretty ignorant of you. Don't take that the wrong way, it just shows a lack of knowledge in this area. Don't get me wrong, I've heard a lot of good things about Lew's baitcasters and that's wonderful. I want more companies to start up and bring as many different reels and options to fishing as possible and if there's ever a brand of baitcaster that beats Shimano's, I'll be the first to admit it and I'll definitely be using it. I don't work for Shimano or any brand so I could care less who makes the best reel, the best reel is just what I'm going to use b/c I enjoy the hell out of casting lures all the way across a lake and I enjoy a glassy smooth retrieval when reeling the lure back and I enjoy holding and just staring at near flawless fit and finish on that reel and right now, Shimano is KING and just b/c this particular model happens to cost more than some of Lew's models, doesn't mean much at all. Lew's makes several models that are priced at over $300 and I'll tell you right now, for that price, there's several models by Shimano that are better options. You owe it to yourself to give Shimano a try b/c you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's not hype that's got them to the top. Next time you're at Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's or anywhere like that, just look at the various brand's baitcasters and compare the fit and finish. I work at one of the biggest chain sporting goods store in the country and I've looked and compared them all and the fit and finish on Shimano's reels is in another league. The only brand that hangs and is comparable is Daiwa. Another great brand there too.

    • @armjamal1
      @armjamal1 9 лет назад

      jaf00181 agreed. daiwa has a great tech and advance features than shimano. e.g. xship has been used by daiwa long before shimano does but my daiwa steez got to rest in the tackle box because i like my aldebaran bfs & Mg more. in my opinion, shimano is better than daiwa in term of ergonomic and paint finish and i believe this new aldebaran is awesome as its brothers.

  • @wvXvxvXvw

    I have a question. Why are there so many complete tools out there who leave the G-Loomis stickers on the rod handles? Every bass tournament I have ever entered had at least a few of these bozos in it. Is it because they think it makes them look rich? Even though everyone on the planet knows that they cost exactly 50% of that retail price. I buy cork handle rods because I like the cork on the handles of the rods. It makes absolutely no sense to cover that handle up with some cheap piece of plastic/paper with a price tag on it. I am sure they know that everyone is laughing at them.
    For the record, keeping a price tag on a piece of fishing equipment is 100% identical to keeping the tags/stickers on your hat/shoes and wearing them around. Most prolific fisherman call those people idiots and retards when they are doing that same thing with their own rods. Complete clowns.
