Had this reel when first lauched in Japan... pair it up with a proper rod you can cast a below 1gms jighead without any issue.. must pair it with a proper line as well. If you are into braid i would recomend PE1 not too thin and not too heavy. Its a dream reel for BFS kinda fishing. Even thou its a bfs reel i must say this reel can cast far with light lures. Excellent reel.
Glad i found your page, just got a 24 Aldebaran and paired it with the 6'8" Expride BFS rod..just put 6 lb J flouro on it today..i can't get over how light this setup is..can't wait to try it.
Enjoy! Going to be a fun combo. Just realize your casting mechanics will have to adjust a bit to BFS as the lures do not have the weight to load the rod.
This is a great little reel. I have enjoyed mine, running straight 7lb Sunline. I did have to change to a Curado 150MGL handle, cannot handle an 84mm not to mention the Aldebaran's 80mm. A Curado 90mm feels perfect. I will say that the reel didn't hold much 7lb fluorocarbon, but would be better with a thinner diameter 5lb or 6lb fluoro. This reel isn't quite as smooth as the Bantam A, but still a very smooth little reel. Planned to post a longer video review on the reel.
I got mine from Japan, so I'm happy that I can now get it worked on, or get replacement parts, if I ever need it. Maybe, next year Shimano will introduce the MGL III spool into a DC reel like they have done in Japan. Heck even a regular MGL spool like the Scorpion DC and IDC5 braking system would be amazing in a Curado DC.
I have 3 aldebaran reels from hover strolling to DS they are great however I have been waiting for the new aldebaran since last year finally have a reel for my Raid Bishop.
The Curado 6’10” light BFS Casting Rod would be the closest in the Shimano lineup although I feel they are slightly heavy in power for some applications so it will depend on the weight of the baits you are throwing. You may be better off with an Ultra Light.
Good morning JP. Steven Wall here. I fish inshore over here in Destin, Fl. Is this new reel going to be ok for saltwater inshore fishing? I know my Curado BFS is. I’m not sure if C.A. is tested one of these yet or not. I really want the best. I thought about pairing this new reel with the curado bfs rod. What are you thoughts my friend?
Not really sure about its saltwater worthiness to be honest. I have never considered BFS for Saltwater because of the low line capacity and lighter drags considering everything in saltwater pulls like a mack truck! lol
What are your thoughts for using this reel for throwing Neds that the heads could range from 1/15 to 1/5 depending on water depth? If this would not be your preferred reel… what would be? Thanks as always.
1/5 would be pushing the upper limits of what the reel was designed for. I really feel a reel that has MGL 3 Spool will do a great job at throwing Neds around and have better line capacity and of course more drag pressure as BFS reels are limited in both. The Curado MGL 150 is where I would look or if you want higher end, the Metanium MGL would be a great choice as well. You are really looking for a reel that has low start up inertia for casting light weights and that is inherent to the MGL models from Shimano
I owned two of this reel, bought it last year love it a lot. this version of Aldebaran BFS the spool weight 6.9g. the funny thing about this video you never address the new design look of this new design comparing the previous generation body design like you how guys address on the curado.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors the previous version of the Aldebaran BFS basically just used the current Aldebaran 50MGL body frame design, but the braking system is just the first generation FTB system; beside that nothing really different at all
Typically if a JDM product is not in North America it’s because of a trademark issue with the product name. Prime example is Scorpion which is Curado here in Na.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors no I haven't heard ina long time .. I belive that cardiff dc is like over 15 years + old now.. I sold my al 22 reel, it nice but I prefer round reels don't mind the weight. Had my al 22 laird with a Expride BFS ML and it was tip heavy, not that I felt the swing weight was funky since it's was already so light.. I'm going back to spinning ajing set up
pretty new to freshwater fishing, bass fishing is what got me hooked!! been a saltwater guy for so long a buddy of mine convinced me to hit the lakes finally gave up and decided to join him boy was I missing out! Just placed an order for this reel pretty excited new to bfs as well.
See that’s wrong why would you buy a reel for $459 and you can get it for half the price you can buy two for the price of one 😢😢😢 digitaka have them for $272.38 that’s a savings of $187. 60 almost another reel it’s not very far off
Port costs, shipping, and transfer fees will bring you up to around 400. Thought the same thing when buying my 23 airity, originally 380... got it for 540 in the end.

The Aldebaran BFS is the best of the best in BFS reels. Just hold it in your hands and you get that "high end wow factor".
Nice job. What ultra lite rod would be a good match for this reel to cast trout magnets and Mule micro baits?
The Curado 6’10” light BFS Casting Rod would be the closest in the Shimano lineup although I feel they are slightly heavy in power for some applications so it will depend on the weight of the baits you are throwing. You may be better off with an Ultra Light.

I am dreaming if shimano able to release antares dc but for bfs 😀I believe that this version will be booming in world wide market
It’s still a very niche market (BFS) and it would have to have big enough numbers to support engineering a reel of that level for it.
Will most of the JDM products ever make it to the US, and will we have support for the ones we already have

What bfs rods are you guys using for trebble baits?

how heavy can the reel cast up to?
