Iv been using cedar pine shavings for years. It does keep the hear trapped in. I also use pine straw to help hold it in the houses better. I live in country and have a abundance of pine straw on the ground.

I use both. I find it that the straw holds the cedar in better. But she is dead wrong about the cedar shavings. Iv been using it for few years now and it works great.
