Chris, you hit the nail on the head - the average car buyer does not know what to look for on a used car. You have both done the buying public a massive favour by getting hold of this one and making it usable and making it safe.
Don't an engineer have to sign off on writ off repaired cars in the UK?
@@bastogne315 just an MOT very basic safety tests.
@@bastogne315 they use to just do a VIC check which was basic aswell for cat c now known as cat s
@@billionone4100 vic check was mearly a vehicle inspection check to make sure vehicle wasn't cloned not to check repairs
We live in a time where people actually click and collect cars ! Insane . No one looks at them properly anymore
I'm birmingham born and bread, the moment he said alum rock I knew he was going to end up with something held together with chewing gum
Absolutely, mate. I wouldn't drive through there these days, let alone buy a car from the area.
Absolutely love this format gents - Buy a lemon repair and then do the job properly. Not only are you preventing a unsuspecting punter purchasing it but you’re also highlighting a issue within the motor trade that needs more regulation.
I really enjoy the content of your videos, but your working relation is what makes them so enjoyable.
Keep up the great work!!
"rather repair one that's smashed" quality statement....an honest smash is a 100 times better than bodged mess....so so true.
Nigel Mansell would be proud of them slick tyres 🤣
The dangerous fools who ‘repaired’ this vehicle need to be reported to the authorities.
"Put 'em in the skip and move on in life!" - Chris had me in stiches on this one guys
Yeah, that had me chucking too 😂😂
Hilarious LMAO
What do you expect from Brum. The repairer obviously learned his trade in Lahore or Lagos.
Still love your videos and your great expertise. This new format is interesting and much better than a lot of timelapse. I think that there should be a recertificating test after a car has been written off for this very reason. Keep up the good work guys.👌
I was laughing when I saw you driving up alum rock, I was thinking no dont do it turn around and run for the hills.I work in that area, I see cars daily on the road that are in use with copart lot number still on the front window screen.🤔
😂
That area alum rock is full off chop shops mate. Dodgy car dealers the lot round them sides..
The bogde jobs I've seen over there is crazy..
Also Chester Rd , round the corner from me.
Great upload.
Chris asking why Rob was laughing was pure gold. Set the walk around up perfectly 😂😂😂
Maybe it will look better if you put a bit of Coving around it Rob.
🤣🤣🤣
Was told many many years ago never buy a car from Birmingham and now i can see why . Good thing its now in the hands of the pro's to be done properly .
Can't believe people still repair cars like that, I've been working in the industry for 40 + years and thought these days had gone, and totally agree cat s should only be done by professional people, fair play to you for getting it back together properly, love the live video
“Stevie Wonder painted it.” 🤣
Every Brummie knows DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM ALUM ROCK/WASHWOOD HEATH. There is always a bodge and if you take it back they suddenly can't speak English.. My granddaughter took her car to that area and was told it needed a new clutch luckily she rang me and I stopped her getting it repaired as it was an automatic! After a week she had a fine for driving in the clean air zone whilst the car was in for repair, the garage denied driving the car!
"Men of no description"
I think you guys are the only people I would ever consider buying a salvage repair car from.
Rob 100% avoid Birmingham for buying any think mate...
Having seen someone actually say that on a BMW X3 the damage to the wheel arch/sill wouldn't be visible because the wheel arch liner would hide and thus didn't need repairing I was horrified. What you have found is the tip of the iceberg, please keep these coming, hopefully the buying public can be made more aware of what's out there.
The guy who’s coving fell off the roof followed you down the slip road onto the M6 and wants to do a trade for a wheelbarrow full of Fiesta bits which fell off your car for his coving back!!!
Brilliant content guys…. 👍
I think you are spot on. That is the worst lash-up I have seen, in a while. They haven't spent a bean on parts.
Alum Rock and Accident Damaged Car... 'Run Forest!'
Stevie Wonder painted it! Helped by his mate Ray Charles. Seriously though, the "repairs" have been done by blokes wearing stetsons and spurs.
Never buy a car from Birmingham.. Far too many cars on Facebook marketplace like this.. gotta feel sorry for innocent people handing over their hard earned. Great video guys.
Last time I went Birmingham I lost a moped and 400 quid , least you spotted this crap and got money off. Good luck rob this is why us normal folk can’t trust most repairs sadly.
You mentioned alum rock,I wldnt expect anything other.from that zone.junkers on all corners around there.
Format was great lads. But who farted at 19.15 🤣 👍👍 another great project
100% agree with Chris, no harm on letting DIYers repair cat Ns, but S should be licenced/regulated.
Some people really shouldn't be allowed to even touch a car, but he was obviously happy to let it go (putting woidscrews in charge of peoples lives).
Love the "chuck it in the skip and move on in life " 😂😂. Great video guys.
I'm 60 yrs of age now, body repair has been my living for 44 of those yrs I love it.. My 1 rule is never follow someone else's shonky work!! If you do charge double!! It's like taking on a single mother, there's always a shit load behind the cracks that are on the surface...
+
You are not wrong about the damaged goods, Fella.
First thing I noticed was the headlining behind Rob's head creased all the way along to the rear of the car, looks like airbags removed and coded out, criminal if so and probably missing from other locations as well. Great video as per usual love the format
Next episode will reveal an airbag delete alongside the hoses.
Buying a car in Alum Rock is risky at the best of times, but off the Alum Rock Road itself is madness, sorry Rob we're not all like that, this coming from someone who spent most of their lives in Birmingham, then saw sense and moved out 20 years ago.
Rob im from brum and i promise u mate that's a standard thing in alum rock half the cars round there are repaired like that and if im totally honest ive actually seen worse in alum rock mate what a dive
I just had my fiesta repaired. they did an amazing job, seeing this video makes me appreciate approved repairers.
"Just throw em in the skip and move on in life" 😂❤ Tell em Chris. DO IT PROPERLY COWBOYS. Shame not all people as diligent as Chris. Should be proud of the work you put out not a quick cash grab that will only be a headache for months to come.
This is why I would never buy a cat S. Too many bodgers on the market. Keep up the good work lads 👍
Being a local, as soon as you said you were buying a car from B8 I was a little bit worried 😬 At least you guys can sort out the previous mess now!
Check the instrument cluster as well probably removed some lights or covered with black tape so the fault codes aren’t visible.
This is exactly why I support and share this channel in anyway I can. You two are so honest with your work and I have seen countless cars like this over the years and something needs sorting out with the laws. Anybody that doesn't know cars like we do in the industry would have bought this. Can you imagine if they were involved in a serious accident. I really appreciate you doing this video.
Ahh the Bradford / Birmingham boys at it as usual
Love the format guys. You weren't lying when you said it was the worst ever!
Be great to get the people who bodged this up on the channel to talk us through how they did it
Packet of cable ties from 99p shop and a 3 pack of double sided tape , then it was off to halfords for a few rattle spray cans . Then some epoxy glue from the aldi . Jobs a good one .
Ok guys who Farted at 19.15 approx on the video lol or was it the missing horn lol . Rob is suddenly very amused for rest of the video lol .
The check that you do before buying, it should have said been in an accident, repaired by a carpenter 😂. Great show guys, look forward to seeing it every time , even my wife knows you two now. Best wishes from Australia
Rob, I like the format. It's great to get Chris's reactions live. His disappointment/disapproval at the repairs by 'persons unknown' proves what a perfectionist he is. The fact that you knew exactly what he was going to think shows what a great team you make. A lot of people would have said "Sh*t, what have we done?", but straight away, Chris is looking on the positive side, at how nice the car will be when you've done the job how it should have been done. You both do a fantastic job. Thank you. Keep it up. Ian.
This is why I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a car from Birmingham. I've had some horrific experiences
Soon as Rob said B8 Saltley Alum rock steer clear
As soon as he said B8, I felt bad for Rob!!
When he said alum rock I knew you were in trouble 🤣🤣🤣
That has been fixed by the guy who can fix it for a really cheap price.
Totally shocking repair, but I know you guys will sort it out. Rob,Chris I really enjoyed today's format. Also I'm glad Chris got his body warmer.
Great content from you both.
I like this format. Thank you for getting this one off the road and repaired properly. Crazy to think someone could be tonking around in it and oblivious.
When completed, I'd love to see a timelapse of repairs from start to finish and I'm sure others might too! Keep up the good work.
Live format is fantastic, can’t really see much detail with distance time lapse. Great video lads. Can’t wait for the next one, cheers.
That’s a bad repair . I agree with you and Chris people shouldn’t be able to do this kinds repairs without a license. Great work and thanks for sharing this with us take care.
I think when u found all them wood screws it confirmed you’ve bought a shed 😉
news video tonight ... hope Chris & Rob are having a coffee break today and a nice slice of cake brought in by Chrises sister ... recharge those batteries before salvage rebuilds uk no1 show performs yet more magic in the garage & hopefully Rob has been out buying some new cars again lol... have a great day lads.
One of the best eye openers ever. Bodgit and Scarpers best job so far. Can't wait for the follow-ups and to see a proper job! Format is great no matter what you guys do.
You boys missed all the FUN! in the 60's where cardboard, masking tape filler and underseal were the only things you needed for a good repair and a £5- MOT :-) :-) :-)
Chicken wire as a base and loads of bog was common too.
What? no rivets!
Frightening Chris and Rob that there’s people out there that do this kind of repair
I like the format. I like your videos. The one thing that you could improve is the audio. It’s often all over the place. I don’t know what you use for editing but you should be able to equalise the audio. But great stuff! Keep up the good work.
Happy to do it for you! Or show you so you can do it.
this is one of the best videos you've done, guys. Plasterboard screws!!! Rob, you owe Chris a drink for this scrap. Please buy more like this when you get the chance.
Chris is fantastic "just skip it and get on with life".
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great format guys, loved seeing the details of the awful work.
Just been on the phone to Stevie Wonder. He's speaking to his lawyer as he reckons he'd have done a better job than what was done on that Fiesta. A full retraction may appease.
Chris is correct, Cat s should only be sold to correctly authorized and trained people with the correct equipment to repair to a safe standard. The 'Repair' to that car is just butchery and it's not good enough when people's lives are at stake riding around in a car like this.
I don't agree, there are thousands of amateur engineers with loads of experience who buy damaged vehicles to repair for themselves or others, if they are bought cheap the sale price should be reflected. The problem is if you don't research and view properly you are buying blind. I have done so many times, it is a gamble. I don't know what they paid for this but my calculations build in the worst case possibility. My first calculation is the retail value on a Cat S is going to be worth 50% after repaired. The "butchery" on this car appears to be cosmetic mainly sheet metal and plastic. A front end from a rear damaged car will sort it out. A jig will sort the chassis leg(s) out too.
May be the answer is a proper post repair inspection, rather than just an MOT.
That head liner has been out as well! Looks creased drivers side.
More likely that the curtain airbag has gone off.
It’s human nature not to “blow your own trumpet”, but you both deserve it, because the quality of your work is “on point” I picked up on one of your subscribers comment the other day and agree if you got a tv deal, I would be hooked.
What an absolute disgrace that people are allowed to put that back on the road.
Loved the format with more live content, appreciate the effort you guys go to for us subscribers.
As soon as ou gave the post code I knew what was coming
Exactly what I thought
Look at the roof lining, drivers side. It's had a curtain bag fitted and they've used the original lining with all the blow creases in it 😂🤣
How are people allowed to get away with shocking repairs like that ,I'm sure Chris and yourself will sort it out 👍👍👍👍
In Australia, they have two categorys of write off, repairable write off and statutory write-offs. Statutory write offs are deemed unsafe to be repaired like Cat Bs and can only be broken up for parts. Repairable write-offs can only go back on the road with an approved structural inspection (usually at select government approved body shops or by government inspectors) where photographs of the repair process must be presented as well as receipts for the parts used (to limit the use of ringers/stolen parts). It makes the repair process considerably slower and more expensive but it keeps the repaired vehicles safe. It makes it a fair industry where you can still repair vehicles even if you don't have the formal qualifications provided the repairs are done properly.
They could adopt a similar system in the UK, perhaps loosing their Cat status when repaired properly to give incentives to the repairer to repair the vehicle to a high standard.
That’s what you get when you buy a salvage repaired car from Birmingham, on the plus side it makes great content 😀🤙❤️
Brother I live in Birmingham and I knew what you was getting into the minute you sed alum rock see this all the time its the traders just want a quick flip and only wanna pay pennies and thats the workmen ship you get for pennies well its in good hands now and as with the other 1 yous repaired all these parts are cheap at ford trade parts
yes when they mentioned Alum Rock I thought that..
@@garytroman5657 funny thing is when he sed he's going b44 to drop van i sed to myself I bet the next 1s b9 small heath or b8 alum rock either way they will polish this turd lol 😆
“Put them in the skip and move on in life” Chris 2021
A simple inspection requirement (in addition to MOT) for repaired cat: S vehicles before they go back on the road, would prevent these sort of bodge merchants from getting away with it. At least you will sort this one out properly.
Loved this video. Quite surprising how these lemons do get sold to the unsuspecting with ease. Knew a guy who had to shell out about £1500 repairing a car that had actually been written off and not recorded. He hadn't even spotted the crash bar was missing!
Chris is 100 percent correct. Back in 80s you needed a License too buy salvage. Looking at other RUclips repair channels Their lack of knowledge is Dangerous. Good content guys
It certainly opens you eyes I wonder how many cars like this are on the road frightening 🙈 good job there are lads like you to do the job properly 👍👌
It's criminal guys and in fact it should be made a criminal offence too.
The lives being put at risk by these unscrupulous individuals, botching up such repairs as you've shown in this video.
I agree with Chris, that before anyone is allowed to repair a car, they need to pass appropriate tests/exams to prove they are fit enough to be allowed to do so.
Like the format too, as this was very involving.
Thanks as always, to you the both of you.
The only thing that could make this car worse is if it was two welded together as well
Chris will get it sorted, Rob get the coffee in lol... What a lemon of a lash up... Should of held firm on the £1200 off the cost...
Definitely. Or walk away.
Hi Rob, I was in the trade years ago and it would seem things never change. For every one like you and Chris doing a proper job there will always be 6 bodgers out there cutting corners and giving guys like you a bad name .
Been watching the channel for a while now , Chris is a masterclass guy who repairs cars . He knows his stuff all the way home . Rob you put together the videos and content to a great standard . Your channel is how all repair people should work . Top work . Knowledge , know how is second to none . Thanks man for the quality content . Enjoy watching this channel .
I'd be checking over the airbags and if they have actually been replaced, you can see the crease in the headlining for where the curtain airbag has gone off.
I seen that too.
I'm thinking more like they've folded it over to access the air bag
Bet the curtain airbags haven’t been replaced either, look for the resistor wired in to make the car think all is ok.
Biggest worry is, if that “fixed” car had another accident it would probably have just folded up!
Format work well nice that you are sorting the lemon out correctly you will. Make it great again keep the good work up and thanks
Wow - Shocker! It’s a relief to see you guys have got hold of it, rather than leaving that death trap on the roads for someone to buy cheap and put their kids in!
That is an awful repair, how anyone could be happy completing work of that standard, it’s worrying that this industry isn’t regulated, this car is in great hands now, I’m sure you two will have it how it should be very soon, I really like the new live format❤️.
Using the word, repair, in the loosest of terms.
The moment you mentioned b8
I thought oh no 😱🙈
If you know you .you know
Buying a damaged / repaired car out of Birmingham suburbs.
You need a check up from the neck up Rob!
Anybody else pick up the wind break at 19:15 , 😂😂😂 great video as usual guys
You got absolutely no chance of us doing that we’re not pigs it was the bumper moving around
This is what happenes when you buy a car from alum rock lads. Loads of dodgy chop shops round there! Surprised it's not 2 fiestas for the price of one lol keep up the good work!
As disappointing it must be to have the Fiesta in this state, it's a good contrast to the quality of your work and the fact you both make it look so easy. I know you'll do an outstanding job and look forward to it progressing. Plus the car will be right and give the next owner many trouble free miles.
Brand new Tesla's come like this out of the factory haha. The first time I bought one I thought it was smashed to pieces and glued back together but than I found out they are just like that brand new.
Yes, enjoyed the format guys 👍🏼
I've just seen the video and I just need say, I live kn Birmingham but I never trust sellers around Alum Rock as they're doggy sellers.
Bit of advice Rob, never buy salvage cars from any of these areas, Alum Rock, Spark Hill, sparkbrook, Aston, Hodge Hill, Wednesbury, West Bromwich, smethwick and Handsworth all in Birmingham.
I've tried looking for car for personal use, the people selling don't be honest at all.
Totally agree!
You missed Bradford
Yep there's so many dodgy people in those areas pumping FB marketplace full of crap using fake accounts, fake private sales etc
Manchester!!
Like the format, I'm a bit biased as I could watch this channel 24/7, informative and compelling viewing. I'm not a car repair guy, but if I was I'd have been embarassed to have let that car leave my repair shop. It's a copmplete bodge and woods screws to hold body parts together...UNBElIEVABLE !!! Chris's use of a plasterer's featheredge to show misalignment of the chassis legs completely in keeping with the way the car had been repaired (no disrespect to plasterers) 😂
Great video lads. We are so used to seeing you guys do the job right, it was a good reminder about the absolute shocking lash ups that are going back on the road. Terrible really.
Soon as you said alum rock I knew it was about to get interesting and I wasnt disappointed
Having worked in the motor trade for over 30 years in various roles ie mechanic mot tester and now car trader I have seen things that would make an onion cry...Some people shouldn't be let loose with a spanner..loved the wood screw's though,,one size fits all..😂
Like this format, keep it up lads!
Format? I think it's just fine, always enjoy the content and appreciate the time lapse ... It's joy watching two hard working ethical people.
Love Chris`s laid back attitude.
