I started this beer reviewing channel after I found myself searching out lots of craft beer breweries and enjoying amazing beers, I then decided to start the channel to share these beers with you, however I also realised people like to see beer reviews of every type of beer including beers that are available in supermarkets. so yes whilst I do review a lot of craft breweries I will review any beer. On the odd occasion I will also do food reviews.
whilst I enjoy reviewing beers I also enjoy watching other beer reviewers and I have made some good friends in the beer review community.
Here is a list of some other beer reviewers I like to watch (there are many more I watch).
Dean's beer reviews
All the Beer No Idea
I've had worse
Scott and Wanda's World
Paul's Beer Reviews
Northern Southern Beer Reviews
The Craft Beer Hub
The Crumby Beard
Thanks for taking the time, gives good gauge on what to reasonably expect.
Thank you
Thanks for the video, Chris. I watched this video and I tried it out tonight myself, actually with a can of the alcohol free Guinness 0.0 I had sitting in the fridge for days and it worked perfectly with it too. I was pleasantly surprised. I'd heard of the pin trick before and thought maybe it would be a gimmick but yeah, I'd do this in future. I feel that using this pin trick on the widget can definitely gives a bitter pint than the widget does.. worked well for me, a nice creamy, full head.. stout was nice and smooth. It's amazing what you can find out on the internet.
Ah thanks Sinnerboy! Yeah the internet is an amazing place! Thank you for watching.
Legend Chris, nice to see this explained properly. I tried once and failed but willl give it a go again now that I know what I'm doing!
Thanks N B hope it works for you this time.
Thank you for posting this. Bought a NitroSurge device last year on our travel to Ireland. Thought i was gonna be the cool guy on the block back home in the U.S. Alas, no NirtroSurge cans to be found here. And so the device sat all lonely on my bar. But now, hope has returned that I can be the cool guy again!
Enjoy!
@@ChrissBeerReviews thanks much. Bought a pack of draft cans and used the method you suggested. Works well. The key is to be very patient once you tap it with the pin.
@@ikeyschultz4969you get any bubbles? I get crazy bubbles that seep up around the pin.
I was recently gifted a nitrosurge and i can't help but think it's a bit of a gimmick.
I've not seen anyone say it makes a groundbreaking difference. I don't want to pay extra for special cans, and this pin method appears useful but only if you're hell bent on using the nitrosurge, rather than gagging for a pint.
Especially given that i can't use it on other cans then i have no use for it.
Thanks for the video though, helped me to understand it!
Thanks for watching Louis and thanks for leaving a great comment. Overall I would say it is a bit of a gimmick, I would say using the nitrosurge cans you get a slightly amoother pint but i dont think it justifies the price increase. Guinness are the absolute masters of marketing and getting people to buy in to their products.
Thanks for the vid, worked great! Can’t wait to try it on a can of Kilkenny, Beamish or Murphy’s, the possibilities are endless!
wow chris been asking for this everywhere,.but you knocked it on the head will be now getting the Surge. thanks
Glas you enjoyed it, thank you for watching.
The nitrosurge cans definitely taste better than the regular draught cans.
They're almost indistinguishable from a pint in the pub.
Cheers! Thanks for watching.
Top vid Chris really well explained
Thanks Sven
Thanks for this, just got a nitrosurger and it's night and day between the normal cans and the nitrosurge ones. Just didn't fancy paying twice as much. About to get a pin and be a cheapo 😂
Hahaha no harm and getting a pin and being a cheapo! Enjoy!
Thanks for this, Chris, I can begin experimenting now 👍
No worries. Enjoy and thanks for watching.
Anyone else finding that using this method slightly changes the flavour of regular Guinness cans? That's been my experience and also when I used the device on Brewdog Black Heart cans.
I have said it a number of videos. Nitrogen does dull flavours. Cheers for watching.
@@ChrissBeerReviews100% true.
Interested if it worked in Black Heart Can?
@@dontbeboreduseadiamondswor4898no it doesn't have a widget.
Nice video, cheers for that. Sometimes the nitrosurge cans are sold out, and when you want a decent Guinness it's good to know I can get any Guinness and use the pin method. Cheaper too. Deals for 10 cans for £10 440ml cans are on sale often. Much better than the £8 for 4 558ml nitrosurge cans.
There are some great deals on Guinness at the moment. Shame the deals are not on the surger cans! But yes the pin method works well. Enjoy and thanks for watching.
ABSOLUTE LEGEND!🍻
Thank you.
Great video. I was looking at buying the surger. But the tight man in me did not fancy paying an extra 2-3 quid for 4 cans. This might just sway me to get one 👍
I think its worth it, its effectively 2 quid a can and they are pint size, so two quid for a decent home pint is all good. Cheers for watching.
I actually think it definitely improves the cheap draught cans a bit.
So thanks for that as i gpt brought some as a birthday present so this makes them much more drinkable 😂
Happy birthday!
Will this be the same as a nitrosurge can? Hope this works coz £8 for a pack of 4 isn't cheap and would like to use the device on a standard can..
I agree 8 quid for a pack of four seems expensive, but they are pint size cans, so that's 2 quid for a decent pint of Guinness.
However, there are some really good supermarket deals on Draught Guinness, using the pin method on the 440ml draught cans does work well though. So if you are looking to save a bit of cash then I would recommend the pin method on Draught cans.
From the states here; Can attest the head is better and the flavor is a bit richer (less watery and tinny).
Still not like a proper, in Ireland, pub pour though.
Do u have to use the pin method on Guinness NITROSURGE cans or is it only used on cans with a widget
Only cans with a widget, the nitrosurge cans are made to use with the guinness Nitrosurge device
@@ChrissBeerReviews cheers mate thank you
I only came across your channel yesterday but love it
Thank you
Might be a stupid question but could you pour non-nitro stouts through the surge? Would it make any difference?
Not a silly question mate, no you can’t. With non nitro cans you end up with a pint of foam! 😄
@@ChrissBeerReviews😂😂😂
Super helpful, thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
Does this only work with cans that have to 'balls of nitrogen' because I have tried it with a couple of cans that have the nitro widget attached to the bottom of the can and it always sounds like the nitrogen has been released even when left to 'degas' slowly.
I have found it works on all varieties of nitro/widget cans.
I bought a Nitrosurge device and have done a reasonably acceptable job with the pin method, but my results are not turning out like what is displayed in this video 😢. Probably getting better head in the glass than by simply pouring the draft stout but still not pub grade.
There are variable’s like room temp and beer temp, that make a difference. Sometimes I get appallingly bad heads!
Thanks, where did you get the 440ml glass?
I think it came from a supermarket a while ago. Fairly sure they are on ebay though. Cheers 🍻
Can you use the nitrosurge device on stout without a widget? I bought loads of forged Irish stout but it's so flat when I pour it
Yes forged is a nitro stout. So yeah do the pin trick and use the nitrosurge device.
How can I get the device you used to pour the beer?
Sainsburys and Tesco sell them.
Nitrosurge cans are currently available in Ireland, Great Britain and Singapore. That means the rest of the world is heading to the nearest pub, if they have that option available.
Pub always wins!
Not sure I follow this, so the can has a nitro widget inside it already, but you're not allowing it to activate and instead using that external device (Nitrosurge?) to inject nitrogen into the beer? Why not just open it normally and let the widget do it's thing? I must be missing something here...
The device does not inject nitrogen into the beer, the device actives the nitrogen in the can as it goes through the device, it makes it smoother than opening the draught/nitro can the normal way.
@@ChrissBeerReviews if the nitrogen is in the widget but the widget doesn't go off, doesn't that mean there's no nitrogen in the beer using the pin method?
Cheers chris 👍
My pleasure
Great stuff
Thank you.
Why no 2 pour. Great video. I’m off for a 6 pack.
Hahaha enjoy!
Now I’ve been trying to get this to work forever…I think I’m on like beer six - is it normal for bubbles to come out the top? I’m not having any actual beer spill out…but every time I get bubbles.
Some tiny tiny bubbles is ok, if you have bubbles covering the top of the can its not good. Just a few tiny ones around the pin no issues.
Is it a really noticeably better flavor, more akin to a pub pint. Really? I find the draft cans pretty good as they are, and I only ever drink Guinness on draught or in draft cans. If so, i guess you could use two pins to make it twice as fast!
You can use two pins. However you don't want the gas rushing out too fast. Thanks for watching.
I tested it about 30mins from now… (in germany you just have the 440ml cans) so i did the pin method for about 20-30secs and opened the can (the widget didnt go off) got the 440 in and opened another can to get the complete pint with the nitrosurge… and yes! Its brilliant, its almost like you get one in a pub - dome isnt as soft but thats no problem for me. Taste is a little different from drinking oit of the regualr draft can.
Mate where’d you get the 440ml glasses??
It came from Sainsbury’s when they had an offer on Guinness, it was free with a pack of Guinness, that offer is long gone. But i am sure i have seen them on ebay
I wonder would a hypodermic needle be any better.
Worth a try as long as it does not release the gas too fast.
Thanks for the display but that is a massive head (bishops collar) on the pint. A proper pint of Guinness is poured in three stages. That’s a tourist pint you’ve poured. ☘️🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪
Thanks for watching. 🍻🍻☘️ 🇮🇪
It’s literally not a pint poured from a draft tap. You don’t pour it in 3 stages from a nitrosurge. And no it isn’t a massive head.
Is this a 440ml can with a 440ml glass? Just wondering because I can only get the 440 cans in Australia, and I just dropped $80 on two hard to find 440ml glasses 😂
$80 !! For two glasses!!! You mad man!! 😂😂 to be fair my glass collection is rather large and i probably would spend that on a glass if i thought it was special enough. Yes it is a 440ml can and 440ml glass. Thanks for watching.
@@ChrissBeerReviews Haha yeah.. my wife had the same reaction, totally understandable.
Great video by the way - cheers!
Remeber ther nitrosurge device is on a timer. As soon as you press that button, start pouring.
Cheers.
Be a mad man and use the nitro surge on an Guinness original can?
Better head than I get on the nitro cans. Btw your getting confused between draught widget and nitro cans a few times. Nitro cans do not need the pin-,obvs
Cheers for watching and leaving a comment.
so if i dont have the nitro device can i just pour the nitro can straight in?
@@tonic1667 u could but would be no good...u NEED the device
Not bad if you can't get / afford the Nitro tins
Agree, thanks for watching
Thank you for this - I’m guessing that if you get little bit of drink forcing itself through the hole you made, and/or the ‘widget’ is floating at the top of the can when you open it, you have essentially ‘f*cked it’ ?
Yeah ideally you do not want any liquid coming through the hole, if the guinness ball is at the top its ok as long you do not hear it thumping around in the can.
Why can't you just open the can and leave it for a while to settle and go flat
Because you would have activated the nitrogen upon opening and once activated it will not reactivate, so letting it go flat will not work as the nitrogen will not reactivate. 👍👍
I'm wondering what a can of Guinness original would be like through the nitrosurge.
It will be a foamy mess because its not got nitrogen in it. any can that has nitrogen in it will be fine.
Thanks for the advice. I just assumed you were letting the nitrogen out when you used the pin.
Does this device really improve the taste of the Beer? 🤔
Am I missing something here?, why?, just pull the ring and pour same result but quicker
If you pull the ring the pressure releases and then it will not surge effectively through the nitrosurge device, it is smoother through the nitrosurge device compared to straight from the can.
They put a pin on my right eyelid so it cant see
Cheers for watching
See what you mean 👁
Or...... just open the can and pour it into the glass 😂
Hahaha very true!
The last few cases of guiness I bought almost half the widgets inside were duds anyways so you'll only have to use this 50% of the time...what is going on with your product Guinness? Can't justify paying 30 bucks for 8 beers and can only drink half of them if you dont have a nitrosurge time to move on to a different stout
Thats bad the half of them the widget doesnt work, thats very poor from Guinness
I would die of thirst first 😀😀
Hahaha very true. Its a drawn out process 😁
You seem to have heartburn.
I often do!
Regular draught cans actually taste better than Nitrosurge cans using this method.
They do taste good i agree
Chris please try siren hard pour nitro breakfast stout through nitro surge pin trick wow lovely
Hi Gary. I am fairly sure I have one of those stouts on the back of my shelves. I will have a look. If I have a will do a video with it and the Nitrosurge. Cheers Gary.
@@ChrissBeerReviews you will enjoy it £3 Morrison’s
I do have a can. I will do a video now and upload it tomorrow for ya. Cheers.
@@ChrissBeerReviews great hope you enjoy it
not enough domage
I will aim to improve 😁 cheers for watching
Makes zero sense?
Fair enough, but thank you for watching.
Why put us through the air coming out for ages when you could have done one earlier then not to bothering to doing the 2 pint pour and serving it with the glass the wrong way round 🙈
People like full demonstrations and this gives people an idea of how long the gas takes to come out. There is no need for a two part pour with a 440ml can. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Always appreciated
So could I buy a 4 pack on Monday, pin all 4 and when I want to drink one on Friday just depin and nitrosurge it?
Thats an interesting thought, I guess you could, but it is not a long process, and the fact gas can come out may indicate air could get in, so I wouldn’t leave it for a few days.
Why not two-part pour just because it's a 440 can. Really stupid - the two-part pour method is for a reason and it's got nothing to do with the size of the drink!
Even Guinness themselves don’t two part pour a 440 ml can, in-fact Guinness recommend your pour the draught 440 ml cans in one action.
@@ChrissBeerReviews Because there is a widget in the can. But the whole premise of this thing was to pour through the nitro device. So the basis of the signle pour was entirely negated. If you're using the nitro device, you should use the pour technique intended for that device. Seriously, this is not rocket science - it's just basic logic.
Yeah fair point, you are right, my apologies. I just read your comment and did not look at what the video was. I agree with nitro device then yes the two part pour is the right thing to do. I more than happy to see own my mistake! Cheers and thank you for watching and commenting.
Just missing the 2 part pour
