I have the B&O and all I did was put in 6 1/4 kicker speakers in the rear and it woke up the system like you wouldn’t believe. Very happy with the sound quality now.
Good video. I did the same for my Bronco. I also bought the Kicker Hideaway 10 but have not installed it yet. I agree the Kicker Key wakes the speakers up and it is a big improvement, for the price I couldn't be more satisfied.
I just bought an entire package from Plug N Play kits. All new kicker speakers, kicker hideaway, key amp and the wiring harnesses to do the job. Can’t wait to install it when my rig arrives.
To initially get my bronco to sound presentable out of the gate, I did have to tinker for a while between the car stereo’s EQ and the EQ in the Spotify app on your phone (Profile> Settings> Playback> Equalizer), but it sounds pretty decent now. You’ll have to customize an EQ setting depending on how you have the car’s EQ set. It’s a balancing act, but definitely worth the time if Spotify is your avenue for music streaming.
I replaced the stock 4" speakers with Pioneers and put Dynamat sound deadening in all 4 speaker enclosures while making the change. That improved the sound tremendously.
These little amps are awesome, I want one for the infinity speakers I bought for my wife car. I have an alpine power pack in my truck and it’s plenty of power.
I used the Kicker speaker to replace the Ford ones on my Black Diamond Bronco. The sound 1000% better, but on the 4 inch speakers in the dashboard make sure u used a bass filter on them.
So , my dad was into High Fidelity 70 years ago, I learned a lot from the old man, rest his soul. So one of the largest problems and this has to do with almost every car manufacturer. They use low s/n ratio speakers. Typically what this can do is at higher wattage / volume, it will slightly over extrude the cones on the speakers which is that pop sound you hear cause the cone has reached its limit outward or inward as far as travel. Now there is a couple ways to combat this. One is buy higher s/n ratio speakers that can handle more wattage with less excursion. The other is to port the box the speaker is in, to the right size so your cone has an easier and less pressure to reach those levels which will reduce the pop. Typically speaker replacement is the best option without any modification of the cabinet but that speaker may also pop if it does not have enough air volume to move and typically higher s/n ratio speakers need more air inside the cabinet. If you mod the box with an air port then you have to not only get the port the optimal size for the speaker and the volume inside the cabinet but also the length it goes inside the cabinet correct for the best sound. The other problem with porting is you typically lose some of the low end so its less Bassy. I would say, in this application , if money is not a huge issue. replace the speakers with a higher s/n ratio. Then turn the bass down on the stock setup on the head unit and add in a powered sub in the rear , the unit may have a sub line level input on the back of the unit that's not being used. Get all the bass from that , let the mids and highs come from the surround speakers. If you want to use the speakers that came in the vehicle , still add a box , but you can get inline capacitors that you can attach to the positive side with some soldering that will act as a passive EQ and block the lower frequencies , say below 1 k hertz and then you never risk over excursion. There is calculators online to figure this out based off the ohms of the speaker.
A much easier way to explain is the car manufactures try to get the most as cheaply as they can. Honestly it's surprising how nice they can make junk speakers and electronics sound sometimes. Anything stock can be upgraded to sound far better. This has been the case for a long time/always. Even tho cars do sound far better than in the past, aftermarket sound is ALWAYS a vast improvement if you spend a little money and buy quality components. This Kicker amp is far from the best amp on the market. Just changing the speakers would help even more than the amp honestly. Doing both is the right way to tackle this project.
I have been thinking about this because I am interested in a bronco, and my recommendation would be to choose a speaker brand that offers more of a composite type cone with a rubber surround. This will ensure it’s more of a “weather proof” type speaker. You mentioned focal, their k2 might be a good option.
I agree! Buy Once - Cry Once! plan to rock AudioControl D series (DSP enabled) Amps pushing Morel Hybrid speakers and a JL Audio amp pushing a JL Audio sub!
If you want to so a full amp/speaker replacment the best fully integrated option is the DSR1. It will fully integrate and is mostly plug and play. The key is great solution if you want to do something simple. But if you want DSP control and want to add more amps use the DSR1.
I ended up installing all audiofrog speakers in a 23 bronco for a customer recently and amplifying it with a musway 6ch dsp amp (not auto tuning but ive installed enough dsp to fully EQ it no problem). NIGHT AND DAY difference. I really like kicker key amps but 50wx4 rms isnt enough to excite, multi channel amps in todays era need to be at least 130w per channel.
Thanks for the helpful video. Just installed on my 2024 Bronco with non B&O 7 speaker setup (non-deleted sub). Highs and mids sound great, but bass has dropped out. I've seen a recommendation from others to disable the sub while running DSP. Is there an easy way to do that? Or other tuning settings to keep the lows? Nope, I actually have them all the way down and just let the DSP run itself. The next thing I've seen is to activate the rear speakers using Forscan.
