Dennis Weaver was an amazing and very likeable actor. This was a great episode....and I think most of us know what it feels like to be used by somebody and dumped at one time in our life or another. Dennis " Chester" portrayed that feeling very well.
Chester (Dennis Weaver) was SSSSOOOO much better than Festus (Ken Curtis) The depth of character and skill as an actor was night and day! Festus (Ken Curtis) almost seem to be a looney- toon character! An over the top ridiculous comic relief that took away from the amazing series that was GUNSMOKE!!

@@cassiejo8438 The actual name of the episode was "Chesterland". As far as I remember, they never really explained where Chester went since Dennis Weaver quit the show.
This is 1 character I absolutely didn't care for & was glad to see him go..Dennis Weaver was MUCH better as McCloud ..by the way,amazing that people still think /belive Chester was a deputy, NEVER have I seen a badge on him or ever saw episode where he was EVEN REFER As a deputy
Chester was the most ANNOYING character of all westerns!! From his whiny, irritating accent, to his ridiculous stiff leg. He went too far trying to set himself apart. I get so irritated watching the first nine seasons solely because of Chester.
Such great acting in that final shot. He really looks like he’s struggling not to cry.
Awesome episode that beautifully showed the depth of the friendship among the regular characters.
I watch these old shows ..1955 to 1975. Chester was on for the first 9 seasons. Best drama ever

One of my favorite episodes of Gunsmoke, Chester didn't deserve this. Matt, Kitty and Doc knew what he was in for.

Another scene where Arness got out acted and had the scene stolen by Weaver. That was some Good(e) acting there.
