Chester is my all time favorite Gunsmoke character. I just don’t enjoy the episodes after his departure nearly as much. He was just so funny and endearing. 💖
All of the characters were great, but I think Doc was the most believable, and, with his dry wit, perhaps the funniest. Definitely one of my top three favorites on the show, and my number one favorite "cantankerous" character in all of television.
.Matt, Kitty, & Doc. were all great. And Chester was the best as the sidekick. A great show. The friendship they shared was beautiful to watch. Hated to see Chester leave. 😢 But he got his own show. McCloud

Chester slammed the Doc for making fun of him on the duck calls. Chester tells the Doc you just can't stand the word quack. Which is how bad Doctors are reffered to as a "quack". Show's writers are very clever.
I always assumed it was because he’s what country folk would call “simple”. Either he came up with the bright idea himself (the belt for function & the suspenders for fashion) or his pappy did it and he never questioned the redundancy.
@@kruncler3969 Thank you very much👍🏻 I got out my DVD for that episode from my collection and saw it. I know why I was not aware of that scene between Doc and Chester. The episode is so odd, sappy, and non-masculine that I know I must have stopped watching it before it was over the first time I saw it. In fact, as I watched it today I was having difficulty believing that this scene was actually in it and so I fast forwarded through it till I found it. But because of your help I did find it and enjoyed it. It was the only enjoyable part of the whole episode. Thank you for solving the mystery👍🏻
While Dennis Weaver was a great actor, this character Chester Good was totally unnecessary and for me, did not add anything to the show. There were times when he stood out in tough situations, but 90% of the time I thought it was a joke. But he did a great job in the series "McCloud". I did like his character in that show.
@@davedalton01 I guess he made yoiu feel good. He didn't make me feel good. I didn't have a problem with Thad. Either way, Thad and/or Festus was way better than Chester.
Chester was the most useless character on this show, and one of the worst actors ever put on film. That nasal whine of his so annoying. Like fingernails on a chalkboard
@@m.e.d.7997 Chester was so cute and Doc being a cranky old coot and fussing with Chester but especially Festus was just the spice of laughter we needed because Dodge had some rough characters coming through and the show is my favorite Western Excellent actors and writers

I LOVE good ole doc!! He was one in a million!! Not only did he give Chester a hard time, but he also gave Festus a hard time!! Gotta LOVE him!!

Many people including me favor Doc over everyone else although I love all of them and James Arness is unbeatable as Matt.

Doc and Chester are priceless….the shows writers didn’t lack any sense of humor. It wasn’t just another shoot em up western.

These interactions were usually always hilarious but at times a bit over done. But added humor to the show. I watch every day today.
