Mojaxx, I gotta point you at something that's gonna blow your mind. I love Blackmagic, use their stuff every day at work. But the software package called EcammLivePro does everything these boxes do, plus so much more. Link any camera instantly over HDIM and USB. That includes pro DSLR video and STILLS cameras. For real. Old stills cameras can be used as web cams via USB they do not have to be a video based camera, nor do they need HDMI. Full NDI support both as a receiver and broadcaster. It has all the audio controls you could want. Built in graphics engine including tickers, clocks, countdowns. Does countdowns to live events. It sums the inputs to whatever size & frame rate out you want. It plays videos as backgrounds, supports web widgets, sums feedback from multiple platforms into one panel. The list goes on, it's a crazy piece of software. It also manages to do all this using a minimum CPU, GPU & RAM. It of course does virtual cams. It's basically everything I ever wanted OBS to be in a dead simple package. It made me and the company I work for completely rethink our entire livestream and recording pipelines. Love to see what you think of it.
I brought Ecamm, it is great. But I've just brought and been using the ATEM Mini Pro for 2 weeks (since it was released) and I can now hook up computers and DSLRs to the HDMI inputs and switch between them. With Ecamm I could run 1 DLSR into my laptop, and with Pro Tools or Ableton running, I started running into processing limits on my machine. Ecamm is great, but ATEM mini is much more useful for me. And whilst I've got the option to run the ATEM into Ecamm for extra functions, I don't in order to keep my computer as free from the extra processing as possible.
Great job on educating those who are not familiar with this tech or are scared to attempt streaming. One thing that has been overlooked by many, though Pioneer had addressed it many years ago, is the fact that DJ's will become more visual at their live gigs. This can definitely up the ante for most DJ's as far as presentations without having a large crew behind them like the big boys. You will be able to put on some type of show/production that looks professional. Although it won't have the intelligent lighting aspect, graphics for your DJ logo or just actually a change of scenery in the background, the money that is used now for streaming can definitely go far for other possibilities visualy for the DJ industry.
Absolutely fantastic overview, the best on YT period. Iv been looking at the Mini for a few months and they are like gold dust as you say, now highly considering the Pro. People are selling the Mini on Ebay for more than the Pro costs. BM please get supply on these sorted.
Thank you so much for this video. Finding out about the audio delay and how to fix it was am real gem. I had no idea about the delay as I have been feeding audio currently into the camera from my main FOH console but now want to use a separate audio console feed going directly into the Mini Pro for a better mix of the recorded/streaming sound. The Mini Pro is my choice as I will be recording into an attached USB SSD drive while streaming, and also need the picture in picture feature. The limiter in the audio section is also a great feature I will be utilizing.
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I just purchased the ATEM Mini Pro for my church's live streaming setup. I was planning on using the mic/line inputs but I may opt to have the audio go directly into the camera (Canon XA11) and receive with the video via HDMI.
Funny thing is I bought a Roland VR-4HD a few years back just to switch video sources with streaming capabilities. Then this came out and I was kicking myself, but I still love the machine and since the video and audio sources go to one place before recording/streaming I never really had to think about the audio lag. I really should test streaming with it though.
Very cool, very very tempting. Looks like it would solve some load issues for people who might not have a powerful desktop while streaming. Looks like s great all round solution for livestreaming.
Thanks for a great video. Really appreciated the audio delay overview as thinking about one of the ATEM mini pros for live band performances, once all the restrictions and venues pick up again. 👊
FYI!...there is a 4 camera limitation work around. I have a 4K HDMI 4x1 switcher hooked up to input 4. So I have cameras on inputs 1-through 3, and the 4x1 HDMI switcher Box on input #4 (as a sub group)...where I put 2- GoPro's and 2- Panasonic G7's on it, for a total of 7 HD-Cameras Feeds. The only issue is, when I switch through the 4x1 sub-switcher, there's a few millisecond of blackness, as the 4x1 switcher drops one signal and picks up the new selected signal...but I just make sure I have channel 1,2 or 3 on the program feed while I'm selecting the proper camera feed from the 4x1 sub-switcher.
Hi, Thank you for the review. If possible please add a reference/tag "mic audio delay at 18:25" or something like that in the video description for easier searching.
Great video mate. Thanks for the audio delay tip. I just purchased the unit you recommended. We do have large digital mixing consoles to add the delay but with the size of the ATEM Mini Pro, bringing a Yamaha LS9 console just for the audio delay defeats the purpose!
Yeah, I looked at all the options and I’m glad I went in the direction I did. The unit is tiny, cheap, and continues to just work. For anyone else looking for one, it’s also available branded as Lindy, and I’m guessing some other brands too.
I've been using the Roland VR-1 on loan. Similar to the ATEM mini pro, a little more expensive (300-400 more), but has more extensive audio capabilities/specs: XLR for 2 mics and proper RCA inputs, hardware audio FX for getting that announcer sheen, and can auto switch between cameras on the beat. Built like a tank...all metal case, big rubber buttons. The big thing it's missing compared to ATEM is the standalone broadcasting and recording. That's a cool feature for laptop users.
If the Roland had a standalone encoder, I'd be all about it. But the encoder, for me at at least, is the killer feature that triggered my purchase. I've just seen Wirecast and OBS crash or spike my CPU too many times - even with a separate livestreaming PC - to trust them for consistent livestream connectivity and quality. For DJs and musicians doing solo livestream productions, this is a great stress reliever.
Thank you for this review! Very helpful! Question: is there a way to automate switching between the cameras? Like if I were to stream a performance and want the device to just keep switching between the 4 video sources automatically with the set time interval?
Damn. I do multicam livestream setups for corporate clients. I have a rack case with a power conditioner, an ATEM, a Vaddio Bridge, and a drawer full of adapters (2 DAC-70's & 2 Decimators for scaling, 4 blackmagic mini converters, 2 1x4 HDMI DA's, and 2 1X4 HD/SDI DA/s). All in, about $6,000. This little desktop thingie with the USB webcam output could replace all that for about 75% of my shows. :-|
The audio delay thing might seem like a big oversight to people who don't work in broadcast. For people who have spent their career in broadcast, familiar with the engineering behind it, this little box is seriously nothing less than... well, Black Magic. No joke. Adding a little delay box on the audio is normal practice in broadcast, in fact, you won't have a broadcast setup anywhere without an adjustable delay on the direct program audio feed. I imagine they assumed you'd either feed your audio through your main camera if you're only using one mic, or be feeding from a mixer, in which case you'd be syncing your audio at the mixer's output. Anyway, I'll be surprised if they don't have a delay adjustment added in early on an update, but it'll need to be source-dependent. For example, say you're running 3 cameras and a laptop feeding live video roll-ins as your 4 inputs. 2 of your cameras are a6500's, and the other one is a gopro. The a6500's will have a different frame delay count than the a6500's, and the videos running from the laptop will be already in sync. So, that's where the engineering can get just a little tricky if all your audio is coming through a mixer into the switcher, and you apply one delay time to all. A live production switcher with built-in scaling and a bridge encoder built in... just... yeah. It's far more revolutionary than people will ever realize.
I bought the Mini for $300 two years ago because I didn't want to spend $500 for the Mini Pro, but BH Photo is stelling the Pro for $295 and I picked it up... The recording to a hard drive makes it fully worth it
@@rachelbestcine1794 I'd be very cautious about ordering this kind of equipment form AliExpress. Hard to know if it's genuine OEM and backed by warranty.
Thank Mojaxx for a truly phenomenal video tutorial, certainly one of the best I've seen. Regarding the audio delay issues, can you tell me if the latency would be eliminated if I'm using an XLR mic plugged directly into my camcorder then out to the ATEM Mini Pro via HDMI? Would that bring the audio and video into the ATEM perfectly synced or would I still experience a lag? Thanks again!
Mike Jia I heard, for the mini pro, that it was released maybe last week with distributors getting them as quickly as possible. Not sure though. Im waiting in the junior one lol
i like the idea of dedicated hardware doing much of the heavy lifting and its also compact and quite powerful. The audio sync issue will be something that will need to be built in on future units but over all f streaming continues to be a part of my life then something like this might interest me
Hi, It was very interesting, your explanation of THE ATEM mini Pro, I bought one, As I updated first to version 8.2.1 I m not having the experience of latency that sounds over the 3,5mm ports gives problems. But as you said, using inputs from camera's is actually what I m doing. I have 2 very simple ZOOM Q8 camera's with fantastic audio inputs. And bringing down the cable's, I use Sennheiser XSW-D and XVIVE U3 wireless transmitters/receivers, what works greatly. You're a good teacher 👍😉
Hi, I wanna add a new experience, as the ATEM mini Pro is still fantastic, some buttons are very small, my laptop has no touchscreen. The solution : I found an app on Android, spent €10 for an upgrade, connected a WiFi router on the lan port of the ATEM M. P. Switcher, and logged in on my router's WiFi. The ip adress is important, but within 10 minutes it was working 😉 all the buttons in the app are programmable, so you can choose any functionality from the atem to a tablet. Anyone who has also experience with this ❓ App from Google play store : METACONTROL
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. I just became aware of the Blackmagic Design ATEM MINI and Pro. Apparently they are not for me because I need to save videos to post later on a FaceBook group site. No live streaming.
Thank you for the great info- very helpful. Do you use any streaming software at all since you've started using the Pro? Is there a processor usage monitor for the Atem?
Awesome video. I was wondering would there still be an audio delay if your using a good mic connected through the camera on one of the headphone jacks from the camera. Then the audio would come through the HDMI just curious if there would be a delay. Or is the delay only there when your using the mic in on atem unit.
Wow - a black hoodie entirely made of corduroy elbow patches custom stained with bbc engineering grade coffee and cigarette essential oil. Mojaxx. Son you gone deep! Love it.
This might seem like a silly question as I think it was covered, (just wanted to be sure before purchase) It does have an automatic scene switcher doesn't it ?
THANKS!! Maybe you can help. I would like to do the following - all at the same time. How can we do it on the Mini Pro? 1) Have 3 camera + 1 computer inputs via HDMI (OK - This part is easy) / 2) Have the mix go to a Zoom call (on a 2nd computer) / 3) Have the mix also show locally on a Large Screen or Projector via HDMI / 4) Use the Multi-View to be able to preview and cue the various HDMI inputs ??? Also - is there some sort of USB-C breakout that will enable the Mini Pro to feed Zoom (in another computer) and record that feed (actually the video mix) at the same time?
With the Mini Pro 1 and 2 are easy. You have to pick either 3 or 4 though. There is only 1 HDMI out and so it can only be used for either program feed to projector or as multi-view feed.
@@theefaulted That's kind of sad, isn't it. If you are feeding multiple feeds, you'd like to be able to have a multi-view to preview the mix. I was hoping we could use the USB-C with a breakout to make up for that, but don't know if it can feed more than one process at a time
Thanks for this great video mojaxx!! I haven’t started streaming yet but I’m looking to start and I’m getting into it for the first time. Would you recommend the Atem mini as a good starting point. I only have a Mac and a couple iOS devices I can use as cameras and I don’t want to put a lot of stress on my laptop
Great solution for people streaming from a laptop, but if you have a desktop to stream from a Blackmagic decklink quad pcie capture card is a better choice. Using it with OBS, you can do anything the ATEM's can, and way, way more. It gives you the ability to record each video and audio input separately, you can get 4k30 on all inputs for the ability to crop and not lose resolution, & with free (stream deck like) software for your phone/tablet to control OBS with, you even get hardware control. All for less money than the ATEM pro. 100% recommend the ATEM for people streaming from laptops, but for desktops it isn't even close to best bang for your buck.
That's a very fair point. And for the intended market, I can absolutely see the benefit. But I will say, of all the questions I've fielded in recent weeks, very few of the DJs asking have had Windows desktops. For those looking to go deep into streaming long term, certainly a beefy desktop should be on their shopping list.
@@Mojaxx Definitely. I've got a long love of BM gear and just want people to know all their options. Used the Atem a few times before the world kicked off and it definitely boxed above its weight. I use my studio pc to stream off of, but surprisingly it doesn't take much for a good streaming rig. The multi capture card would be the most expensive part by far. With a single capture like a camlink & a web/action cam over usb, you could build a rig for not much more than the Atem or Decklink quad on their own. Alpha Gaming on here has some good vids on super budget streaming rig builds.
@Skratchin Jackson - and @Mojaxx I think one of the main selling points for this device - for DJs and musicians at least - is the ability to NOT have to be constantly switching your attention back and forth between a desktop PC and a DJ or performance rig. Also, as an anecdote, I used to work at a very technologically advanced symphonic concert venue and we had several very beefy dedicated streaming desktop machines with Decklink 4k's on them that were exclusively dedicated to that task and what I found, after three years of producing just about every hardware and software variation of livesteamed music shows you can think of, was that: A) EVERY computer - no matter how beefy - will fail in some way eventually - usually at the worst moment B) While Black Magic's control software is usually great, their drivers are not the most reliable - we were often dealing with problematic driver updates - and while their stuff has a great price vs functionality sweetspot for prosumer and light professional duty, the real pros use AJA and other heavy duty gear for anything mission critical and BM stuff for more of the livestream stuff. Having said all that - I think this thing will be perfect for multi-cam DJ and live music set-ups. I'm very interested to see how it plays out in terms of reliability as an encoder because I'm honestly just about done using computers - of any strength - for producing livestreams. It's not IF they'll fail or crash, it's WHEN.
@@JohnHenryDale 1 tool to rule them all, Stream Deck.. I rarely have to look at anything other than my live chat during streams. All my switching in OBS is controlled by it, and it's functionality is pretty endless at this point. That's with 2 camlinks and 2 usb cams. I've been livestreaming dj sets for 3years, making more than working in clubs. Dayjob I work multimedia IT at a 50k+ student university, after 2 decades of live and post production work. You're overcomplicating things and not actually reading what we're/I'm saying. .ez
Skratchin Jackson - - agreed on the streamdeck. I’ve got one and it’s a game changing - I’d even say essential - piece of gear for solo livestream producers. Also just a great macro launcher for computing in general. Not sure what you think I’m not reading or overcomplicating, but your response was about BM decklink being a better value vs. the ATEM Mini pro for desktop streaming rigs and my reply was a counterpoint that, based on my years of experience, i’ve found that even expensive desktop streaming rigs with BM decklinks can and often will fail due to BM’s incessant driver updates. So, while I completely agree that a PC with a BM decklink + OBS obviously offers more recording flexibility and live shot-switching options (especially with a streamdeck) a purpose-built standalone encoder and switcher device like the Atem Mini Pro may end up making up for what it lacks in scene building aesthetics and recording functionality with reliability. Desktop PCs are obviously complex beasts with many other programs and background services competing for CPU and networking resources. A lot of things can and will go wrong, so for your average DJ / musician looking to up their livestream game by offloading their encoding to a standalone device this thing makes a lot of sense. And sorry, but there’s no way even a.super cheap desktop streaming PC with a decklink quad in it even comes close to this thing on price. Decklink quad is 550 (usd) and any desktop with a motherboard you’d actually want to trust is at least that much again, if not twice that price, to say nothing of peripherals.
Mind blowing, and Mojaxx, you're a good educator man.. Please help me understand, whoever is still looking at the comments here. I do get the thing with streaming right out of the Mini Pro (got one on the way) and here's my scenario - I'm wondering if I'll be able to do the following: I' want to stream guitar courses through ZOOM - with two camera angles (maybe 3 cameras all together, all with clean HDMI out) and I also want to connect my Mac (or iPad) for some screen sharing/live drawing and so on. I'll need picture in picture of at least 2 cameras (one wide shot and one on the hands...). The ethernet cable is streaming it, Mini Pro's USB is going to the computer to be recognised as a webcam in ZOOM, can I still take the HDMI feed out of the Mac and put it into the Mini Pro's HDMI in? And then the ATEM software on the mac - that is now only wifi but on the same network - will I be able to use the Preview on my Mac? Do I need a separate monitor connected to the HDMI out of the Mini Pro? I also see the problem with this because I'll still be streaming from the ... computer? ZOOM isn't going _out_ to the ATEM, it's the other way around? Thanks so much in advance gys!
The MultiView is really awesome for bigger productions where you're a team. Means it's possible to direct your photographers with an intercom (or even hand signals). (Most peeps have discord or something like that, plug it on the phone, and voila, you've got intercom...)
The Mini will only be the webcam and the software (like OBS) will do the encoding. The Pro has a dedicated encoder so it won't affect your pc. You also can only do picture in picture with input 1.
The first part of your comment is correct. But the second part isn’t - you can do PiP with any input, on top of any other input. I have numerous permutations of that, set up as macros.
Bernd Strobl It’s in the DVE options on the upstream key. A bit complicated but the manual explains it all in some depth. You can choose source, resize, move and crop the PiP.
Pleas help!! So, I'll admit that I'm not as technically advanced as you all are with regards to the live steaming stuff, so my question may seem dumb to you all. However, my big question is, does this unit eliminate the need to have 2 laptops for good quality live streams? Thus far, I've stayed away from Twitch mainly due to the need to have 2 laptops to stream effectively. If this hardware does the "heavy lifting" and eliminates the need to have 2 laptops (this excellent video (thank you Mojaxx) leads me to believe it does), I would totally be interested in purchasing one.
I am curious about your upload speeds for your internet? When you did this video I believe you said you did it live. Did you use the atem mini pro as your upload device your streaming device? Or did you record this video live and then upload the video later?
How do you stream directly to Facebook from the mini itself? I keep having to hit the "go live" button in Facebook before the stream will start. But I thought one of the features of this product is the ability to save the streamkey in the switcher so you can go live right from the switcher without the need for a computer
Depends on the camera. My old GX8 has some auto level thing which means it sounds odd. Some will be absolutely fine (fed mic level). I think an audio delay is the most requested upgrade to the Minis, and I'm sure Blackmagic are hearing it.
Mojaxx yeah it makes a lot of sense if they can implement it.... audio straight into the Mini would be good... I’ll test with the Canon 5d and see if it’s any good when recorded, that’ll be a half decent test before the unit arrives...
@@Mojaxx You probably know this but for others: when feeding line level audio to camera mic inputs you need to either switch them to line level or use a - 30 to 50 dB pad. Also, make sure to disable AGC (auto gain control) that most cameras default to. Cheers!
Thanks for a good mood review! I received a A M Pro but it does not accept my cam via HDMI... suspicious!! no way to go with a Nikon 3300... have to get another cable adapter for the GoPro's hdmi....
The fact it doesn’t have 4K and is regular USB not 3.0 is a pass for me for now. I was excited when I recently discovered this. No videos or info mention the non 4K or USB 3.0 except yours. I appreciate that! I will wait for a revision of both of those. Being only 1080P capable today is outdated. There are many applications where 4K could/would be necessary or a desired option. Sadness for me... ☹️
@@tdannichols as long as it could still pass through 1080P for folks like you (which is pretty universal on 4K HDMI equip.) then really it just offers more flexibility. One day you will make the jump to 4K. Wouldn't it be nice to have gear that is ready to go? One less new piece to buy. I am onboard this piece of gear. I love the concept and price point! Just needs those crucial elements added.
How did you get the XLR audio sync to the ATEM ??? did you record it separatetly ? also how can i catch the audio to come out of my POCKET 6K XLR ? like ATEM CONTROL picks it up but in OBS it doesnt pick up the mic sound. the only thing i see as a output is Microphone (-2 Blackmagic Desing) idk what tha even means
Thanks for the comprehensive description! Just got my Mini on Monday. Want to use it for an online class I’m offering so have an iPhone 6S Plus as my Camera #1, Panasonic GX85 on my workspace as my Camera #2, and an 12.9 iPad Pro running Keynote as Camera #3. All these are going out via USB-C cable to my 2017 MacBook Pro. I want to use audio from Camera#1, my iPhone 6S Plus, but have also tried connecting a wired lav mic to audio input #1, as well as a powered wireless mic, bu when I try to record a Zoom session or using OSB, I get no audio. Have tried lots of recommended work around but to no avail. How are you getting audio in your recordings?
Seeing this a bit late Bill, sorry. I’ve had no problems getting audio from either unit into OBS, either adding the audio as a source in a scene, or as a main audio input. Is it showing up at all?
Mojaxx, thanks. No, I get no audio from my iPhone 6S Plus or iPhone XS plugged into Camera #1 port on Mini. I have since gotten several mics to work in Audio #1, however, then I have the frame lag sync issue. I can adjust that by adding 900ms delay in OBS so I can do recordings for YT. Zoom, unfortunately, has no feature like that so to use with Zoom I need to get audio from one of the Camera ports. My Panasonic GX85 has no mic input and when I tried my Olympus E-M5 II, which doesn’t send clean HDMI out, with an external mic, no audio passed.
Isotonik Studios yes and more go to there web site! It worth the money! I caught mine from a person who had it before the virus went full blown! It’s $1k I got mine for $700! You can also work it from your computer
Pre-ordered when it was out of stock at Scan in the UK. Delivery date got pushed back, but then it came in. They are getting stock out, it’s just very much in demand.
VERY HELPFUL AWESOME VIDEO!!!! Would you be able to suggest a reasonable server lens that would work with the Canon M50 in order to be able to control the camera's zoom using the MIne Pro? I am hoping to have this camera mounted high up as an overview shot and want to be able to zoom in and out at times. If you have an affiliate link for the Canon M50 or another reason recommendation of a Camera in the range of the M50 that would allow me to pull this off, I would be happy to purchase through your links. THANK YOU!!!!
I can't believe with all the audio SW controls built in, they couldn't just add a simple audio delay for sync? What a strange omission for something so simple.
@@muzikdc Best place would be the BMD website - www.blackmagicdesign.com/ - I'm not sure what version of ATEM this fix will be added in (currently 8.2.1 is the released version) but just update the device whenever a new version drops and hopefully the audio delay fix will be in there.
One other major feature they omitted with the Atem Mini pro is an audio monitor jack. You can monitor audio via an HDMI screen that has a line-out jack apparently, but that seems crazy to me they couldn't include a 3.5 mm audio monitor output on this box. That can't be fixed with firmware / software updates. I guess maybe the idea is that people are monitoring audio from their cameras or audio interfaces, but given this thing's extensive internal audio / EQ functionality this seems like a major omission.
@@JohnHenryDale that seems like a reasonable critique since they added direct streaming via ethernet from the box itself - so maybe a MK2 version will add that. I did like Mojaxx's solution to the audio delay compensation though. I didn't even think of that option.
Question... can you use one source of audio for all 4 inputs? What I want to do is move between 2 cams and a computer feed but only use one audio source for all of them.
HI Paul, yes, you can isolate one audio input as your "master" sound for all cameras in the audio setting. Then, when you switch between cameras it will only feed the designated audio to the stream or recording.
Hi DJcityTV, great review and very informative. However, I have a question, how do you get the multiview/preview shown on your laptop. I believe it's through HDMI output port from the Atem, right? If so, how do you get the signal into your laptop as I know HDMI port on the laptops are generally for output not input. Your response will be highly appreciated. Thanks
Great review. Just a short question about sound quality and integration. I want to get the sound out of a mixer or, in a special case, out of a native instruments s4 controller. Can I use the Blackmagic Mic Line in for that? Ciao, Rainer
excellent video. Quality of content vs length of time ..totally nailed it.. having that brit accent makes us yanks feel like were listening to some one smarter then us by default "wink" lol
Thanks a lot for this. My Pro unit finally arrived today, to be used for online teaching. Spent the whole day figuring it out and your video was really useful. There is one thing I don’t seem able to get right. All I want to do is for the PIP of my taking head, say camera 1, to come on when I switch to other inputs. At the moment, every time I switch to ANY camera, PIP turns off and I have to manually hit the PIP button to get it back. This happens with the ATEM buttons, not in the software. I noticed you switching and your PIP just stayed on. I can’t find how or where to configure this. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m only using this for live-streaming to Zoom via USB at present, not the Ethernet port, in case that’s the issue.
hi mojaxx! I'm a VDJ and I have 2 cams with me to shoot the crowd in the clubs. so, can I use this unit with my cams and along with VDJ? what my question is... in the main output my set's visual will appear. so in that main output, can I use crowd video transitions at the same time with this unit (atem mini)?
So if you’ve got your 4K 6K cameras attached, and you wish to record to attached storage, that footage is 1080p, H.264, correct? If I wanted to at the same time, record the 4K or 6K signal raw, is there a way to do that and have that higher quality footage available?
You can record 4K raw (or whatever) to the cameras whilst sending 1080p out to either of the ATEMs. I can even do similar with my GH5/S, as the HDMI out on those can be set to 1080p whilst recording 4K internally.
@@Mojaxx I plan on buying a Pocket Cinema because as a one-man producer, I need to control focus, zoom, and color grading on the fly from the ATEM software control on the main camera. You must not be using those features with your GH5/S, correct? I do want 2 more (affordable) cameras. Do you think those GH5/S's would be good matches to what BM offers? Or is that overkill? I want 2 alternate cameras during a livestream music performance to be available for cuts to hands or other.
If the audio is also going through the HDMI connection from the camera, it will (unless there’s a delay elsewhere) be in sync with the video, because the audio is also being delayed the same amount by going through HDMI. The only time audio needs to be delayed is when it’s NOT going via HDMI, i.e straight into the audio inputs on the Mini/Pro. So audio fed into the BMPCC6K should be in sync perfectly.
Blackmagic update available today that "Adds adjustable audio delay on the analog inputs on ATEM Mini models."
It’s worth noting that the latest firmware upgrade now includes audio delay. Brilliant!

Best tut I have seen for balanced overview of the ATEM mini Pro. Just enough depth. Blackmagic has added delay control as of 2023.
Answered every question I had about it. Saving up for one as soon as I'm working again.
A brilliant presentation sir! I mean it, your coverage was concise, clear, and “real-world” centered. Awesome

Superb presentation! Thank you. I had just ordered the Pro and needed some affirmation and an overview. Boy, did it get it!
Fantastic! I'm deciding between the mini and mini pro. Definitely want the mini pro now.

Got mine on order, can’t wait for it to arrive...
Pro or Mini
Pro in the end, wasn’t going to buy my capture card broke so it made sense in the end....
I got mine today!!! I can't wait to get the new studio started right
FYI!...there is a 4 camera limitation work around.
Brilliant review/overview. The Pro is def on my wishlist.
Andin Briwel Thanks for your insights, both of you. Appreciate hearing the perspective of people who already do this stuff on a professional level!
Cool device, nice review of it too. I just got my Canon Eos working with usb only but I'd love this thing.
I bought the Mini for $300 two years ago because I didn't want to spend $500 for the Mini Pro, but BH Photo is stelling the Pro for $295 and I picked it up... The recording to a hard drive makes it fully worth it
Very very useful and EXCELLENT presentation & clarity. Surely the mini pro is the way to go and your video is SHORT, CLEAR & PRECISE. Thanks a mil

Thank goodness the delay feauture were added! Great review
Great review. The ATEM Mini Pro is indeed a tremendous way to do livestream at a very affordable price for what it does.

I'm convinced I'll never get my atem mini order fulfilled now that this is out.
When was it officially released? My preorder from B&H is still waiting to be filled.
Mike Jia I heard, for the mini pro, that it was released maybe last week with distributors getting them as quickly as possible. Not sure though. Im waiting in the junior one lol
i like the idea of dedicated hardware doing much of the heavy lifting and its also compact and quite powerful. The audio sync issue will be something that will need to be built in on future units but over all f streaming continues to be a part of my life then something like this might interest me
Hi, It was very interesting, your explanation of THE ATEM mini Pro, I bought one,
As I updated first to version 8.2.1 I m not having the experience of latency that sounds over the 3,5mm ports gives problems.
Anyone who has also experience with this ❓

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. I just became aware of the Blackmagic Design ATEM MINI and Pro. Apparently they are not for me because I need to save videos to post later on a FaceBook group site. No live streaming.
Thank you for the great info- very helpful. Do you use any streaming software at all since you've started using the Pro? Is there a processor usage monitor for the Atem?
When you stream to RUclips directly from the unit, does it create a new livestream, or can you choose to stream to a previously scheduled livestream?
Great review Mojaxx as always. The PRO looks like a fantastic bit of kit for the money.

Astonished, this is rocket science! Thanks for explaining that
Thank you so much, that was very helpful. I'm doing similar setup for my workshop for recording, and some live, shows.
Also, as an anecdote, I used to work at a very technologically advanced symphonic concert venue and we had several very beefy dedicated streaming desktop machines with Decklink 4k's on them that were exclusively dedicated to that task and what I found, after three years of producing just about every hardware and software variation of livesteamed music shows you can think of, was that:
A) EVERY computer - no matter how beefy - will fail in some way eventually - usually at the worst moment
B) While Black Magic's control software is usually great, their drivers are not the most reliable - we were often dealing with problematic driver updates - and while their stuff has a great price vs functionality sweetspot for prosumer and light professional duty, the real pros use AJA and other heavy duty gear for anything mission critical and BM stuff for more of the livestream stuff.
I do get the thing with streaming right out of the Mini Pro (got one on the way) and here's my scenario - I'm wondering if I'll be able to do the following:
I' want to stream guitar courses through ZOOM - with two camera angles (maybe 3 cameras all together, all with clean HDMI out) and I also want to connect my Mac (or iPad) for some screen sharing/live drawing and so on.
Can I put multi view to an external display? But have the main feed as just 1 of the 4 HDMI?
This is brilliant and informative well done 👍
Awesome video. I want one now!
@@Mojaxx But how?!
Bernd Strobl It’s in the DVE options on the upstream key. A bit complicated but the manual explains it all in some depth. You can choose source, resize, move and crop the PiP.
Such a rad video, really appreciate it
Pleas help!!
This could be perfect for my platform
Awesome explanation - really appreciate it... thank you!
Really interesting review! Nice piece of kit as well!
Super informative. Thanks!!!
Great video..direct and straight to the point. Thanks!
Good stuff. I really appreciate your insight
Great review! Thank you.
Hope for a firmware update for the audio delay, how. As does the audio degrade if you feed the outputs of your mixer into the mic jack on the camera?
Cheers!
i'ts great, the problem is that are no stocks in lots of countries right now

The fact it doesn’t have 4K and is regular USB not 3.0 is a pass for me for now. I was excited when I recently discovered this. No videos or info mention the non 4K or USB 3.0 except yours. I appreciate that! I will wait for a revision of both of those. Being only 1080P capable today is outdated. There are many applications where 4K could/would be necessary or a desired option. Sadness for me... ☹️
I agree my only concern is that 4k processing all of a sudden greatly changes my editing tools game. New computer would be needed as well for me.

Hi @Mojaxx how do i connect my Numark controller to my Atem Mini
Pls advise about cabling it to the xdjrx2
I can't believe with all the audio SW controls built in, they couldn't just add a simple audio delay for sync? What a strange omission for something so simple.
They are currently working to add it to the Mini's :)
@@muzikdc Best place would be the BMD website - www.blackmagicdesign.com/ - I'm not sure what version of ATEM this fix will be added in (currently 8.2.1 is the released version) but just update the device whenever a new version drops and hopefully the audio delay fix will be in there.
DJ Lickweed this is great news. It really makes this device complete imo. And at the price, it’s an amazing deal.
Thanks
I was feeding the HDMI output from the Pro into the regular Mini as a source, then the Mini was being sent to the computer as a webcam over USB.
@@Mojaxx OK, thanks for that.
Without using pc please advise cabling to a dj consolle xdjrx2

@@rachelbestcine1794 I have it already, as I said in my post.
Apparently, there is no fix for this. It's just how the ATEM is configured to work.
Yes you can use it for that.
Can you stream to Facebook with the Mini Pro just connected with the network cable?
Also question the BMPCC6K has a mini xlr input. Would it still give latency even the audio would cone out straight from the canera?
If the audio is also going through the HDMI connection from the camera, it will (unless there’s a delay elsewhere) be in sync with the video, because the audio is also being delayed the same amount by going through HDMI.
The only time audio needs to be delayed is when it’s NOT going via HDMI, i.e straight into the audio inputs on the Mini/Pro.
So audio fed into the BMPCC6K should be in sync perfectly.

Ok thank you 🙏🏻
