    We qere quoted $700 to set up traps and remove them if they were trapped. It was not a 100% guarantee either. Im going to do this and see if it works. Unfortunately I cannot just leave them as i have young kids and a dog that play in the backyard. The dog was already sprayed and i cant have the kids getting sprayed or anyone hurt. Best advice. If they don't cause damage besides smell at night....no biggie. Call me crazy, but the odor of a skunk in small amounts like that at night doesn't bother me. Why do they smell when they're walking around? Are they just spraying a little to mark their territory?

    I wouldn't mind sharing my large outdoor space with skunks, IFF the smell and risk of getting sprayed wasn't there. I know thiols, acetates and sulfides are the main olfactory offenders here. Is there any way, via diet or otherwise, to lessen the animals production of these substances?

    • @ipwee
      @ipwee 2 месяца назад

      Spray daily? You must have a fox or other animal. Skunks use spray as a last resort - It is a common misconception that skunks spray all the time. They actually only use their spray as a last resort when they feel they have exhausted all of their other defense mechanisms. A skunk only holds about 4 tablespoons of its noxious fluid, and it can take several days to replenish, leaving it vulnerable.

      My security cameras at my back door showed two skunks coming every night sniffing around for cat food. I read on line you could whip up one raw egg and mix in 6-7 adult strength aspirins in 1 teaspoon of water and mix n the raw egg. I set it out two nights in a row. The skunks came and ate the egg mixture two nights. I haven’t seen the skunks now in two months! The aspirin causes them to bleed internally and they go off somewhere and die! It may sound cruel but not as cruel as shooting them.

    I live in a rural area where there is lots of nearby habitat and have a fenced in yard, and every now and then a skunk or two will get in the yard. What I do is use a howler coyote call to let the skunks know that this is not a good place to camp. I will also buy coyote urine from a sporting goods shop and spread that around the yard.

    Do skunks ever leave gifts, like some birds do?
    There was a rock (2.5"?) on my back step this morning. It rained just before dark last night, so the step was clear at that time.
    I've had shoes go missing off the back step a few times, but read that foxes run off with shoes.
    Do all skunks spray? These have only been coming around a couple of months or so, but I have never smelled skunk odor.

    Incorrect. They cause foundation issues and tear up landscape very badly. They build holes the size of footballs trying to get under the house or shed and also they cause your carpet and drywall to stink to high hell. Unless you like all of that relocate them. Our neighborhood has become ridiculous here in Calif and the skunk population is over bearing My entire yard is torn up from skunks. Thh he sY can dig 4 ft down and 20ft long. We found a wholecc C immunity under our railroad ties just to get into my ahead after I skunk proofed it $66,000 insurance claim in 2016 on my home from a skunk tha sprayed who must have been poisoned because even claim adjuster and remediation company said the toxic smell made throat and tongue burn Skunks suck

    I was annoyed as heck to have my mobile home fill with skunk stink at around 4 AM. Still have windows open in September. It is my own fault, I keep a compost area going across from me, on the edge of a wooded area, and I leave my skirting loose to access garden supplies that I keep under my mobile home. I think I have multiple skunks hanging around. One got stuck in my recycling bin, which is stored side by side with another bin, under a plastic bench. Got itself in, but could not get out, no clearance. I managed to reach out with a baseball bat, to shift the bin so it could get out, which it did. There is also an albino skunk hanging around. I was thinking of putting my leaf blower underneath, and letting it run, in hopes that the noise and dust would aggrevate any skunks enough, that they would vacate. What time of day/night, would be good to experiment?
