Not going all crazy like I was on a dirt bike but just being able to handle off road trails and unpaved roads with better handling. Question I have is this, what is the last date you can order the Pan America CVO?
You can’t order it anymore. There’s probably still some out there at dealers if you look around. We will know if they’re gonna do it again when the 2025’s come out in January.
@@MattLaidlaw Thanks for the update on that Matt. Always appreciate your videos and replies to folks posting here under the videos. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you and yours.
I have a 2021 Pan Am and a 24 Road Glide CVO ST. Both are great but the Pan Am is more versatile, and feels faster. I’ve never taken it off road but toured on the Pan Am extensively including around Australia (15,000 kms). Great bike
I had a small incident where I had the bike parked on some grass, the ground was soft and when I got on the bike the kick stand sank down and the bike tipped over. Despite videos out there on how easy it is to get your bike back up I found it a difficult chore. I have now increased the area where the kick stand touches the ground. Fairly easy mod, works well.
Its a really good bike. Hoping they keep advancing it. Ive ridden both the harley and the new bmw 1300 and now bmw is on top with power, ride, and new shifter.

I don't see much info out there on the options and you seem to have several examples of different pipes in this video.
It’s getting better. I hope to see the next gen model soon. I’d like to see a 1350 with maybe a little better looks. And they need a 950!or something too for the mid class.
Matt, what are your thoughts on the comparatively frequent service intervals compared to the competition? The Pan America requires service almost twice as often as competitive bikes. Doesn't bother me as someone who changes oil more frequently on my bikes anyway, but what about the general consumer? Great to hear your thoughts 🤙
Honestly I’m not super familiar with exactly what the competitions service entails. I believe, however, that their services require a lot more work and therefore are a lot more expensive. I know the KTMs require a valve adjustment which is VERY expensive. So even with the higher frequency I believe the competitors are still more expensive to maintain.
@MattLaidlaw yeh I don't know the breakdown too, it would be an interesting comparison though and see how/why manufacturers are approaching service intervals so differently.
Honestly I think the other manufacturers have it a bit backwards. Stretching out the service intervals on oil changes is both kinda pointless as oil is relatively cheap and almost every tech can attest that these super long oil change intervals on cars and bikes is not great for the engines. Also the fine print in the owners manual usually says things like “if used for x purpose change oil on more aggressive interval.” HD has its 5k interval for regular maintenance items like clutch adjustment and oil change, but has no interval for valve adjustment which is often a significant cost on other bikes. I’d rather have short intervals on oil and no intervals on valves like the pan am than long intervals on regular services with valve adjustments.
The service is very simple. With basic hand tools you can do 95% of it. There are no valve adjustments. And most people do not do 7 and 10k oil changes to prevent sludge in the motor.
I have a 2022 SG ST and love it but this Pan America seems like a great choice for a second bike with a lot of versatility due to its weight and suspension… I’m not a dirt bike kinda person but my SG ST is not a good choice if the road suddenly turns into dirt or gravelly road…
That is really where the PanAm comes into its own. I hear so many riders talk about a time they came across a really cool lookout or scenic road, but the road conditions turned them away. The PanAm encourages exploration in a way that few bikes do!
@ Thank you! I have knee issues and can’t have too much of a bend. I know that I can mess around with different seats as well. Thank you, Matt, I wish you and yours a fantastic Christmas
Il say , i will take this over the BMW GS. Dealer network while travelling, parts availability, upgrades, all things I like. Everyone craps on me for saying this but no one says why .
Haha. Yea, the dealer network is worth a lot. Parts both factory and after market is probably already better after only 4 years of being in production.
My 2022 pan america was a lot of fun. The 1250 rev max is a legit motor. Bad software, crazy bad wiring, no frame, and a sudden rash of electrical problems forced me to trade the bike. I jumped it, off roaded it, hit 136mph in a fun moment, slid it, wheelies, etc.. great idea but harley was not the right maker. Thanks.
It has a type C port that can be used for a charger, matt and I both have Quadlock wireless charging mounts plugged in so our phones wirelessly charge during out trips!
@@TH3G0ODGUY thnx again…I’m 5’9” and ab32” inseam is the PanAmerica cvo too tall to have both feet on the ground when stopped? Not being Flat footed wouldn’t bother me too much…
Excellent review and having ridden the CVO I can tell you it’s great! Another year of Harley-Davidson, friendship and great content thanks to you and the guys at Laidlaw’s HD. Guns & Bikes 😅 Merry Christmas Matt 🎄😎
What’s the seat height? I was recently at my local dealership and saw a pan America and it looked like a pretty tall seat height…I’m 5’9” and probably 32” inseam… I didn’t have time to sit on one at the time…and can you easily take the bags off and take them into a hotel/motel or something? Like a carry handle? Or have to carry like a box with both hands? Nice segment as always….
Its kinda hard to list a single seat height because it can vary so much, between adaptive ride height, the adjustable seat position, and rider weight, it can vary up to 4 inches! Harley quotes 31.1 to 32 inches on their website for a 180 pound rider. But I found out that those specs are independently tested, and not always accurate, hence why the street glide and road glide are listed with different seat heights on the website lol. I can say that with adaptive ride height, at 5,8", 30 inch inseam, and 155 pounds with the reach seat I can flat floot. So if you have a 32 inch inseam you should be good, especially with the reach seat and adaptive ride height.
The color scheme is cool, but the up charge isn’t something I’d be willing to pay. Especially for a bike that could wind up in gravel getting chipped up.
What you have to remember though is that you are also getting the bags and a few other nice upgrades. The paint is actually free if you consider what else you would put into this bike to get it to this level. Get this and you are set, nothing else to do or buy.
Luckily you don't really pay for the paint on this CVO. Between the parts and labor its basically the same price as if you just added all the stuff from the P&A catalogue, even ignoring the paint. its like 7600 bucks for the options and the P&A stuff not including the bike cover and some of the things like the cam cover medalians/clutch cover stuff. So basically if you planned on doing all the stuff on the CVO anyways, you get the paint and powdercoating for basically free.
@ exactly, people are so quick to talk when they see that extra price tag without thinking about what you get. I would for sure go the CVO route if I got a PanAm. Buy the CVO and you literally have nothing else to buy or do.
You can use the main dash for navigation, but I prefer using my phone since I have it mounted anyways. Its integrated into harleys app. I do use it for longer rides because I like the HD trip planner, its easy to share the ride with the rest of the group.
I don't get why Americans who had no interest in the BMW GS 1200/1250 but get so enthusiastic about the Pan American on its introduction. I'll stick with my Sportster 1200.😊
There are a few other nice add ons also, and as Matt says it’s no more expensive than anyone else. You’re going to put a lot more into it if you buy a plain one and upgrade it. Buy the CVO and you are done, nothing else to do. You’re missing the advantage here.
By the time you put all the upgrades on a standard the CVO comes with from the factory, you’ve spent way more than you would have just buying the CVO. The paint is basically free, so it’s far from “$3500 for luggage.”

I’m 5’8” and have no issues (I have adaptive ride height). The bags have liners, just pull them out at your stop
With the adjustable ride height my 32" inseam i can stand flat footed. I stand on the left peg to stand on and throw my leg over the bike.
The color scheme is cool, but the up charge isn’t something I’d be willing to pay. Especially for a bike that could wind up in gravel getting chipped up.
Womp womp
Guess u need a phone mount so you can use gps…does that bike come with navigation?
You can use the main dash for navigation, but I prefer using my phone since I have it mounted anyways. Its integrated into harleys app. I do use it for longer rides because I like the HD trip planner, its easy to share the ride with the rest of the group.
@ thnx for your reply
You bought them Guns & Motorcycles😂😂😂😂
What a growing boy needs.
Watch out for the Terminator in his stolen HD around those roads! 😂😂😂
Too big and top heavy for an old guy like me. 😢 Should be a 450cc edition with classic Harley styling.
I don't get why Americans who had no interest in the BMW GS 1200/1250 but get so enthusiastic about the Pan American on its introduction. I'll stick with my Sportster 1200.😊
The GS is a big deal in the states! They have a big following out here!

🍺🍺🍺👍
Soon to be pantaiwanian 😆😂 ROTFLMAO 😆😆 give me a Africa twin or super tenere ANY DAY!
HD doesn’t have a final assembly factory in Taiwan, they have one in Thailand. Those are two different countries.
A lot of people are stripping these down, and they are bad to the bone street bikes.
$3500 for luggage 😂😂😂😂😂
Seriously, but that's inline with pretty much all the big boys BWM KTM ETC.
I test rode one of these and I have to say the worst bike ever don't waste your money.
There is no way possible that you could back that statement up. I call you out as a LIAR! I want to hear this. These bikes are great fun to ride.
What didn't you like about it?
@@journeyofjerry820you OBVIOUSLY haven't ridden a Africa twin, super tenere, bmw or any other bike in this class.the pan taiwaninian is rated PG,PURE GARBAGE!
Rated PG,pure garbage.get a Africa twin or super tenere if you want a REAL dual sport bike.
@MattLaidlaw he probably don't even have a bike. Just another hater needing attention. I bought one this fall, outstanding bike and doesn't have the beak. Good video Sir.
