@@sdn5682 ESTPs probably have the most potential for that but luckily for Barclays, Halifax and national insurance companies most of them choose to be decent, straight-laced (and ultimately law-abiding) citizens. Mr Krabs (ENTJ) would be at the Bikini Bottom bank quicker than Sandy (ESTP) could say squirrel, Squidward clarinet or Spongebob Krabby-Patty. The latter takes quite some doing in terms of speed. The sponge dude’s laced with functional, bubble-and-burger-friendly amphetamine round the clock.

As an INFP who's been through her share of financial struggle, this is no surprise to me. There's a number of factors that have worked against me here. First, most of my biggest interests and talents are not well-aligned with lucrative fields. Second, I value way too many things above money, status, or conventional ideas of success. Third, I haven't always been very driven or proactive career-wise and have been prone to inertia sometimes. Fourth, I'm not good at things like networking or selling myself. Finally, I do love freedom and doing my own thing, and find conventional job structures pretty suffocating.
Today, I actually make good money as a freelancer, with a whole lot of freedom and flexibility. But it took a really long time to get here, and freelancing itself was full of stressful ups and downs before I got to a good, stable place. It's great to be free from financial strain, but I really had to get there my own way.

As an INFP who is currently unemployed after being made redundant last year, can i ask what kind of freelancing you do? It's the only thing that really appeals to me at the moment but i have no idea where to start - i know, typical INFP!

    • @Multitudes_
      @Multitudes_ 2 года назад +23

@@IndieRockerHippy I'm a freelance editor, currently working with web content and academic research. I'm not sure where you live, but here in the US you can pretty much find jobs like this the same way as regular jobs on job boards like Indeed (best to use 'remote' for the location), or sometimes small gigs on Craigslist or something. It would probably be easiest to find something related to whatever you already have experience with, but there's lots of different types of freelance work out there if you're interested in pursuing a specific area (in some cases, that might require furthering your education or otherwise building up some specialized skills). There's also lots of full-time or part-time work-from-home jobs in many fields.
I will say that in my field and writing-related work in general, there are many low- or mediocre-paying jobs, and the higher-paying jobs can be very competitive, so it can take some persistence to land something good, and typically you'll need a few jobs like this (most of them are pretty small jobs, so you need to find the right mix for your needs) to make a living. Of course, it also gets easier as you gain more experience. There's also lots of different ways these jobs can be structured and managed that may work better or worse for you.
I know there are other ways to go about freelancing too, this is just what I have experience with. You can do your own research if you're interested, especially pertaining to whatever specialty you're considering.

I think a lot of the increase comes with confidence.
INFJ here, just turned 40. When I was starting out in my career, I was insecure and grateful for the opportunities. I didn't ask for raises, I didn't shop around.
INFJs are also loyal. Every job change for me was from layoffs, not by choice or purposefully trying to make more money. But I did make more money each time I started somewhere new. Hey, I see patterns! Slowly I've learned my worth and built my confidence to demand what I want.
INFJ are hard working, caring, and can see the big picture of our goals. It just takes us awhile to get there. It also takes some time to find a place where we feel we have purpose and to really be happy with both the job description and the pay - if it ever happens. I will never be cut throat and I will never sacrifice my values for pay.

It also made me more proactive in exploring where my life and career should go. This led to an opportunity seemingly falling from nowhere, and my knowing it was the right way forward. My then boss supported my making the move but did "borrow" my skills/time from the new department occasionally until others got up to speed. I had to smile at the after layoff getting more pay as that happens with me also..

As INTP I confirm we’re “late bloomers”. I started getting my job at 31. Going out in the real world was really terrifying so took me so long to prepare. Actually even now I’m still a bit terrified. Working with other people is not as bad as I imagined. To younger INTP’s, go do stuff - explore. The earlier you figure this out, the more exponentially you’ll grow amazingly later. Exploring exploits your Fe auxiliary - the more data points you have, the faster you grow confident and anchor onto how to navigate your perception of life and figure out how get what you want.
INTP’s are like life hackers, a big reason they jump up from 14th to 5th is because they can utilize their ENTJ shadow functions - the faster they grow the quicker they can figure out what they want and exploit their shadow (which is ENTJ, the #1 earner).✌️
If you do the math, you’ll realize jumping from 14th->5th means INTP’s end up having some of the highest salaries later in life - exploring earlier enables you faster.
edit: disclaimer - please DO think twice (or a bajillion times 🙃) before doing risky/irrational things, comment more meant to explore new interests until you figure out what motivates you in life 😅

As an INFP, i think one of the main reasons we can be so late to bloom and figure out what we want is because we're being raised in a society that doesn't see things the way we do, and doesn't value what we value. I know when i was in high school and college i still had no idea what i wanted to do and i felt like creativity wasn't a "job" so i didn't do art or anything like that in school. Instead i did what i thought i should do - business etc and i hated it. If we're not encouraged to be creative from a young age, I think we can turn our backs on that stuff to try and fit in or do what we're "supposed to do". Especially when you put our aversion to conflict into the mix - we'll just go along with what parents and teachers say cos we don't wanna upset people, and then we end up really depressed and with no idea what we want to do with our lives! Ahhh fun times.

      This!
I (INFP) experienced exactly this. Turned my back to the things I loved doing (art and history) and did things I'm not cut out for. I began studying a field I was remotely interested in, that turned out to be soooo boring to me that I lost every interest in it. So I dropped out of studying it.
When I finally turned to one of my passions, I was allready on the way to a burnout. The financial stress made everything worse. So I had to drop out too.
I now work part-time in a completely different field with a low income. But it's enough for me to be myself. I'm happy and I don't think anyone needs more than that!

My INTP brother was making peanuts throughout his twenties. Then, he found a field where he got to work pretty much independently, doing something he actually kind of likes doing, and is one of the top producers where he works and makes a really solid income. As an ENTP I can affirm this. My first “career” was something I fell into. I started on the ground floor and rose through the ranks quickly, but my industry was not known for paying much $. Around age 30, I simply got tired of not making enough money and studied income data to find out where the money was being made! I then changed jobs and started a dramatic rise in my income that hasn’t ended yet (I’m in my late 40s now). During this time my income roughly tripled. Another factor is that I’ve always been willing to take risks and always been willing to try new things. The downside is I’ve been in some companies who’s bubble burst, but those have really only been temporary setbacks. Also, I purposely turned down several promotions because we didn’t want to move our kids while they were in school, so I did intentionally limit my ability to earn more. Point being, I think it’s often about choices and priorities. We each value different things in different ways.

I don't work in the US anymore, but I make the equivalent of over $50k now. Hopefully I'll be getting an increase soon because they keep adding titles/roles and am not making enough to match the work. 4:23 I think the reason there’s not much of a difference between sensing and intuition in money making isn’t because there’s not much of a difference in strengths, it’s because they use their strengths in different areas. For example, take INTJ’s vs ESFP’s. Kind of the peek intuitive vs sensor types. An INTJ will see the most optimal way to get something done very efficiently and smoothly, but it might take them a while to figure it out and they could be a little stuck in their head and hesistant to do it. Nonetheless, when it happens, it will be a fast process. An ESFP on the other hand would go straight into getting something done and wouldn’t take any breaks for introspecting, which would make them go faster, but would also make them do the process less efficiently because they aren’t thinking of better and faster ways to get it done rather then just going into it and grinding it till it’s done.
That’s also a part of the reason I think EJ’s are very successful; not only are they great with people but they have a good balance of being able to think before they do as well as being able to grind things out.
Doesn’t help IP’s though because we have our Je functions last so it doesn’t matter 😒
That’s my INFP two cents, thank you for listening lol 😘

ENTJ here. I think we just start planning out our education and career much earlier in life than most. I knew the general direction I wanted to go since 13 years old and had a general plan by the time I hit 16. We tend to think in clear objectives and results instead of journeys/paths so we don’t get swayed from whatever it is we’re doing easily. For example, I never took part time jobs that didn’t relate to my chosen field. From the very start I evaluated all my job opportunities by asking myself if that experience could potentially help me get the skills or connections needed for my dream job. We’re goal-oriented basically.

I'm a 60yo INTJ woman who is still chasing the Bachelor degree on account of LIFE and Lennon's definition of it being accurate. I've been forced to drop in and out of college over the decades in order to stay afloat. I've done fine with a number of decently paying, personally satisfying jobs along the way, then married had kids, divorced, remarried had more kids, raised them all, went back to school again while working part-time with another decently paying job that is in my major (CD/ECE, which I do solely online btw so it fits around all my other pursuits, which includes an online-only side hustle). My long-range goal (if Shatner can go into space at 90, there is no age limit on dreams and goals) is getting a MLiS and becoming a Children's/Youth Librarian, as well as potentially a second Master's/PhD in Mythology/Depth Psychology. Retirement?? What is that notion? I don't understand the concept of working all your life to make $ and then saying "I quit so now I can do the things I want to do" I'm the "I've been doing the things I want to do since Day 1 even if there had to be adjustments along the way, and I will continue to keep doing the things I want to do until I am no longer able to do them and whether that means earning or volunteering or whatever is really not the point...I have goals...I'm going to achieve them no matter how long it takes." I'll probably die close to broke but that's okay cus you can't take it with you and all my kids are doing well. I've already got my body donation registered so I can contribute to science and leave my kids a zero debt there...no funeral for me, just throw a Harry Potter(y) Death Day Party if you want...the only thing that really matters to me is running my race as best as I can....I set my own rules....and I'm not a "late bloomer" as a gardener friend once termed me, I'm a Perennial. We're just poor when it comes to money. We're so full of love and gratitude, I think we don't need much money to be happy, because we're so rich in other things.
Like I have a low income, but every Saturday I take my bike and ride to the local farmers market next to the sea and buy fresh vegetables and fruits and eggs, olives, honey, etc. I then ride home to my lovely husband and my kids and cook some delicious food with the stuff I bought. Later I might go to the beach and have a swim or have a stroll in the little streets of my neighborhood. I'll meet people I know and be greeted in a friendly way, maybe I'll meet a friend for a fresh orange juice and a chat or I'll ring my parents and talk to them for a couple of hours. I work reduced hours as I'm self employed and hence can spend much time with my children. We get along well, even though both are teenagers now and I love having time to actually listen to them when they decide they need a talk and not to have to squeeze them into my time schedule.
I also have a job I love and enjoy and I can spend time alone with my husband and I can even hang out on RUclips without feeling guilty for not being productive.

When I'm 27, I learned the hard truth that my engineering job will never allow me to earn 6-figures (monthly in my country's currency) till late-40s, while a career in Data will at mid-30s, so I have been saving for this transition since. I even enrolled in a state university to get an online graduate diploma in CS (will graduate next year)

As Morrissey (widely considered to be an INFP) once sang, "I was looking for a job, and then I found a job, and heaven knows I'm miserable now." And therein lies the problem: we don't want a soul-crushing, shitty job (which most are, sadly) , we want a purpose.
I'd hazard a guess that those types at the bottom have a much larger percentage of people working in non-profit and creative fields, which also accounts for the lower earnings.

IxxP is low on rank not only because they're unemployed, but because they're interested in doing this survey on the Internet. Some personality types significantly enjoy learning about MBTI more than other types

Hello Frank .I am an intj who is your regular viewer from past two months. I viewed your earlier videos in which you cried for being an introvert with no social skills. The transition from there to here is just amazing. Now I envy your confidence level and speaking skill. You have progressed a lot when you started truly living your personality .Keep going .You are a living inspiration.

I find this really interesting. My sisters an ENTJ and she makes TONS of money and has been goal oriented since she was 17. As an INFJ myself, I’ve been in school for the better part of a decade, after finally realizing social work was for me. I’ll graduate next year at the age of 32 and make around $50 -$60 yearly. Once I get my license, I should be making more. Plus, hopefully my novels that I’m writing for the past few years will be successful.

Funny story, I'm INFP and one of my first job interviews had the employer hand me an MBTI test to do on the spot along with another behavourial quiz. Since I was nervous I ended up choosing answers that were more practical and efficient. To nobody's surprise (now) I got ESTJ as my result. The behavourial quiz turned up an error due to clashing answers.
Even worse, this was a job where introverted feelers were probably favoured so I didn't make the cut in the end whatever the reason was 😂

I'm an INTJ and it's actually my plan to be a late bloomer as far as salary goes. I think the earlier years are about laying groundwork and developing expertise while your mind is still the most agile and able to learn new things quickly, and the payout for that comes much later in life. My dad is an INTJ and a lawyer, and wasn't really making great money til his 40s-50s, because he just avoided all the necessary schmoozing and was too socially awkward to ask for raises/promotions. Relatable! :D
Meanwhile, my brother is an ENTJ in business school at 23 and wants to basically be the wolf of wall street. Say what you will about mbti, but the predictability is spot-on at times.

He’s a legend. The only issue I have with Frank is that his dry humour re. introversion might be taken the wrong way by people who are willing to hone out upon him dropping them just to prove that it’s not a healthy or desirable personality type (outside strictly-circumscribed intellectual circles). That and the fact that those random sponsored-ad breaks are annoying but I don’t think there’s much he can do about that. Otherwise I’d give him a 10/10 for each one.

I listened to many SJ types advising me to do the "realistic" 9 to 5 thing for all of my young adulthood and never accomplished anything. I finally went back to university at age 41 and now have two masters degrees, a job I love, and an above average income. And I'm working on a PhD. And yes, I'm an INFP.

You got this. Weather I am Infp or infj, or whatever, I am a late bloomer.
I just started in my 20's to study "my thing", thinking I belong there.
Then, since required a lot of effort ( paying college and working at the same time, abroad) and strength at the time, I quit. Still yearning for it...
Then in my 30' s I fall into oblivion, sort depression, sadness, couldn't find the sort of job I am pleased ( and financially) I started working around 40's... So here I am working hard, the pay is there and have finally some sort of independence.
All this time I am thinking going abroad and working(for financial reasons and adventure, likes, I don't know...) and definitely will study some of "my things". I' ll see what the future holds for me.
It's strange, all my friends and family, worked since high school and I am( and my sister) the only left out from it, and it's not that we weren't told otherwise... What to do?
Wish you all the best ☺️❤️🌄

I am an INTJ, but I think having a long term plan or knowing what I always wanted to do beforehand has never given me the "edge". I think, it's better if you go with flow, cause you'll just wind up somewhere fine eventually, unlike us who are to picky and wanting things to go their way till the end. I am very particular about what exactly I want to persue my Phd in, however I am struggling to get in for lot of reasons and I am just freaking out. I think, if I just wanted to to do my Phd in biological sciences in general, I would be at a better place today.
Sometimes, It sucks to be this way, not like I can go with the flow though. I am terrified at idea of "just figuring it out as it happens."

Crazy thing is, as an INTP, i was forced to get a job very early and leave school for a couple of years, and I somehow rejected pretty good job offers because I wanted to get back to school asap and ended up teaching English to kids, a part-time job, and a full-time job, but I work just for basic supplies and internet. I guess all you said it's true cuz I really want to focus on a career and figure out the rest since live can turn upside down.
