No wonder finding a career that's realistic was so hard.
Those were literally my greatest passions as an INFP, and it made life in the real word so hard. XD Until I made peace with the fact that a 'dream job' scenario simply wasn't going to happen for me (at least not anytime soon) and found a reasonable compromise that pays decently and leaves plenty of time and flexibility to do what I want in my free time.

@@annakarenina2735 I'm a freelance editor. I think freelance work or self-employment in general is a good fit for people like us, but it can be hard to make it happen! It took a while before I got to the point where I had enough work (and well-paying enough work, because there's a lot of poorly paying jobs in this field) to actually make a living this way. It's probably easier if you go for something like programming or another computer-related specialty.

My tip is to write a list of things you're considering and then write a letter explaining to an imaginary future employer why you'd be so good at each. A few might end up being longer and more detailed than the others 🙂 So then you can narrow it down to those. Good luck 🌸🙂

I love how INFP's are undecided and most of us don't know what we actually want to do.Personally, I change career paths all the time and end up having an existential crisis every time..Glad I'm not alone.
I find it annoying how ESTJs think they know what they want to do when it is actually wrong for them and they don’t care why enough to find out or change their minds. Personally, I have had a paid manual job that I claim I liked but for the context in which I was doing it (a mildly embarrassing story). What did I think I was doing there, assembling woodwinds?

i've found a very interesting split among INFJs. there are the ones who, like myself, get into psychological jobs such as therapy that help people with their issues. and then there is the INFJ that feels like such a job would be emotional overload, and end up with a career in architecture, engineering, physics, etc. i'm seeing it a lot in this comment section as well as real life--i'm the therapist INFJ whereas my boyfriend is the architect INFJ !

Hey fellow INFP here. I’ve been looking around and international relations has seemed like something I might consider majoring in. However, while I was doing online research I’ve found that most people don’t have very successful outcomes. I’m wondering if international relations is worth it and if you know anybody that created something successful out of their international relations masters degree.
@@gloriamartinez5540 Hello there! It really depends on the country and city you're from. Here, in Ukraine, people see success very differently and, for example, one of the girls that I know who majored in IR has moved to Poland and then to Germany to study translation after that. She has earned enough money to start her online business. She got a really nice linguistic practice while studying IR but that's it. Other girl has moved to Germany to teach at the local university. The majority of my fellow students are tutoring English or German, but that's because they weren't actually interested in pursuing a diplomatic career. A lot of people that used to teach at my department are very young and already successfully engaged in the local politics which is nice, that's what they wanted. IR can be beneficial for you if you love foreign languages and/or politics. But the diploma is just the first step, you gotta think of the next moves, as with anything else.

I’m an INFP and I’m studying to become an anthropologist. Even though I am introverted, I love talking to different people about how they relate to the world around them. I find so much purpose in discovering more about others, partially because it allows me to understand myself a bit better too.
I've been looking at an ethnology/anthropology collage program! Is it worth it or should I stick with international relations?
that sounds so cool! I've been curious about anthropology myself (also an INFP). how do you like it so far? been considering taking some classes about it.
@@audreylee1699 depends on what you’re trying to do with the degree, and what subfield of anthropology you’re planning on entering. If you’re trying to get into Social Work, I’d say you’re just as well off taking either.
If you are trying to get into politics or business/marketing, I would recommend sticking with international relations. I’m currently in cultural anthropology, which is the studying of different cultures around the world, and I’m planning on entering academia to write ethnographies for academic journals.
However other fields like Forensic Anthropology would be good if your trying to get into forensics or autopsy work. Biological anthropology is good if your trying to become an evolutionary scientist. And archeology is another sub-field of anthropology which is a normal path forward for Anthro majors.
As an undergrad, I’d say that you may be able to get more job offering solely from a degree in International Relations, though if you were to go to Grad school, a masters in anthropology would take you even further than a masters in International Relations. A bachelors in really any sub field of anthropology would open the door to getting a masters in other anthropological sub-fields as well (which is very diverse in an of itself).
They are both very similar, though Anthropology is more abstract about applying knowledge from other subjects and analyzing how you personally relate to a different culture’s practices, while International relations often shares more similarities with a political science class. Best case scenario is that you get a double major or a minor, as knowledge you learn in one class may be directly applicable to the other.

As an INTP lawyer, I think our P actually helps us rather than hinders us in that profession (especially in litigation), because in complicated cases there's a need for improvisation, adaptation and out-of-the-box thinking, the more you try to stick to a plan the more frustrated you're gonna be when things don't work out in the way you hoped, which will be a common occurrence throughout your career no matter how good you are.

So what are you doing now? Just curious 😉
The stereotype is certainly NOT boring, imo
@@StephanieJeanne teaching elementary and kindergarten 😄
@@missrobinhoodie Oh wow! That's great! I come from a family of teachers. Three of whom taught kinder. Ironically, I got my degree but quit 2weeks into my first job. Wasn't my true calling. Oh well...thanks for the reply!😄✌️
May be close to the stereotype but that's definitely not boring! I like it
I'm an infp and have always wanted to be a writer or musician so let's see where this goes :)
You have good music taste ;)
@@TheExplosionProject lol because of my profile pic?
@@Leah-vb3ud Yep! :)
INFP here! This is very accurate
I’m most interested in art (especially in relation to storytelling), and psychology
INTJ: Engineering, Business Process Analysis.
I am also an ENFP engineer idk why ppl don’t associate engineering with Ne it’s honestly the perfect job bc in engineering there is a lot of brain storming and its not boring at all ~ a fellow enfp computer engineer:)
Oh I was just talking about the career thing with a friend, and then wondered what the thoughts of types had on that .
I'm waiting !
The main difference I've noticed between J and P is that the Js think less is better (simpler, narrow the issues, less to worry about, etc) whereas Ps think more is better (more stuff, more alternatives, more ideas, more feelings, more options).
I've noticed this particularly with complaints and problems (which we all have). P types want to verbalise their complaints and talk about them a lot. It's like by expanding them, they're diffusing the intensity or spreading them thinner. But to a J type, complaining about a problem makes the problem bigger (a bit like scratching at a sore), and they would prefer to shut up or not think about a problem as a way of reducing its bigness.
At their most extreme, J types go into denial whereas P types ramble on insanely.
WOW. LOL. You explaines it almost accurate though . But I do thinked like that sometimes, like 'Why would you shut up and be quiet instead of finding a solutions to the problem?' even if it cause us a fight, but still, at least we could find why this things or that happened.
If we keep holding it on... Sometimes, we won't find a solutions for it. And could've lead to a lot of misunderstandings...
I've got a great example of how two different types can approach the same careers from different angles! I'm an INTP or a INTJ, depending on the test...I am a good teacher because I can lay out things in clear and concise formats and explain the why behind everything. My son is an INFP and he's an excellent teacher but he does it in a completely different way. He does this thing where he drops little knowledge breadcrumbs and guides people to understanding. People feel really good about theselves after getting a math lesson from my son. I've never seen anything like it in my whole life.
Both directions excite and stimulate me, not preferring the one above the other. Actually needing both to not get bored. Also an INFJ here
My INFP example: I tried studying programming, but what I really love is Psychology. Also, my interests change so quickly! It's hard to stick to one thing. This video is amazing!
I think I’m an INFP and I work at sales right now, HATE IT.
Having to deal constantly with people and their needs leaves me totally drained
Yeah, that is a really bad career-personality fit. Hope you find something that suits you better.
I understand what you are talking about. i was working as a call centre and going to work was like going to hell
Those jobs have made me want to commit not living
@@sohasamir9079 exactly!
Same here. It fucking sucks - ENFP here
I'm just gonna say, infj are some of the best performers/actors I've ever met
Hate to admit but you're spot on about ISTJ and ISFJ types. My mom an ISTJ is an accountant and friend ISFJ is a paramedic.
INFJ teacher here. I would say I enjoy planning and curriculum-writing a lot. I like trying to figure out what students need and forward-think it into a plan of instruction to meet it.
as an enfp who is going to school both for creative writing and for teaching (and with a dream job of filmmaking)... way to hit the nail right on the head
I’m an ESFP teacher. Even the “routine” days are never boring. (And it’s not always a “lesson 🧐” so much as a ✨performance💃🏻✨)
aww this is my favorite comment - ENFP
I will be an ESFP paidopsychiologist (psychologist for children) and I think they will be enjoying if they are extraverts. I don't quite know the introverted ones will do. I will figure it out
I am an INFJ and currently in school to become a psychologist! #winning
Noice
I am a xNFP and am studying creative therapy. Seems to make sense according to the video, so that's nice to know :D
Me: An ENFP who spent a few years teaching and is now pursuing a career in voice acting 👀
Hahah! I’m an ENFP pursuing voice over too!!
I was a substitute teacher and a preschool teacher for a time! Went to school for theatre 🤔.
I am an ISTJ teacher. I was offered a full ride by a college if I chose a math major because I was gifted in it, but I personally didn’t believe I would find a fulfilling career in it. I have always loved learning and wanted to teach since I was little. It’s my way of getting to go to school forever. I do specifically love teaching math, especially seeing things come together for the students.
I am an INFJ. I learnt biochemistry at the univereity, then I learnt hypnothrapy and was fascinated with mind technologies. And now, I focus more on and have a permanent career as a Professional Certified Coach. I found this role really insightful and it allows me to be authentic.
I’m an INFP and I’m going into Computer Animation! He got it spot on! I also have an INTJ coworker and he used to be a nurse! So yeah..
I work in animation, and a lot of us are INFJs! I might be an ISFJ or INFJ, idk, but there's a lot of us in entertainment. Also lots of thinker/judging types in the more technical side of animation, like rigging and FX and stuff. In the end though I think every type brings something really important to the table, and I really like having diverse personality types in the studio because they approach problems from really different perspectives and it often makes the movies/games/shows better because of it.
I'm an INFJ too and am thinking of making career in animation, do you think it's worth it?
I'm an INFJ and I either wanna be a doctor, a psychologist, or an embalmer-
Yeah, I'm pretty lost when it comes to deciding what I wanna do later on.
INFJ environmental scientist and sustainability manager who helps small businesses become green! Wouldn’t trade my job for the world!
Your job is... for the World... (ENTP love infj's).
as an INFJ, i can see how that would be an awesome job for an INFJ. we like to feel like we're truly making an impact on the world with our work
What an awesome line of work you've chosen. Keep it up!
INFJ-T. I'm a cop in the Air Force. I've done everything from sales to food and retail. On the side, I pursue dance and music production though. Interesting.
Thanks for the video, FJ.
INFJ here. One more thing on choosing a career....Never make life decisions based upon pressure or tendency to want to please others. I chose my first career because of pressure from family, but realized 2 years in that it was the biggest mistake of my life. After realizing I was miserable, I left my white collar career despite the negative feedback from those around me. They told me I was a failure for throwing away a career most dream about. But that career was draining my soul and left me feeling dead inside. I left that career to do what I love, and I feel alive again for the first time in 6 years.
This is your reminder to DO YOU regardless of whats good for your neighbor. You only get one life. Don't feel pressured to please others. At the end of the day, you're always left with yourself, so you might as well be happy. ✌
I couldn't agree more. Very well said.
Can I ask you what was your career and which switch you took?
Whoa, I’m an ENFJ looking for a new career path and I was literally looking into social work or Human Resources. I think this is confirmation I should go for it!
Please do! I’m an ENFJ who switched to social work and I LOVE IT!
INFP here
wanted to be a biologist (or maybe sociologist)
tried Biotechnology (seemed close enough to biology) but hated it, too much chemistry
tried Animation but found out I was not as creative as I thought, also life sadly got in the way
tried Computer Science and so far I'm loving it (perhaps it's because my Te got a bit of development)
just shows how life can turn around, and for those still looking don't give up! You'll find the thing that resonates with you! (even if it doesn't become your job)
I'm an INFJ, but have a career as a Software Engineer. I enjoy it, and I think my personality type makes me good at understanding what it is the customer wants and translating that into what to do with the software, and also translating issues or concerns with the software to the customer and suggesting solutions.
Thank you, you make me feel better about insecurities with sticking with a scientific career. In the end, the capability of understanding well others' thoughts, intentions and goals - along with understanding the best way of explaining something to them - can be helpful anywhere you work in deep conceptualization.
Do you need to have a computer science bachelors degree or do you think I could still work in that field if I have a mechanical engineer in degree and went back to get a masters? -INTJ
ISTP here and u kinda nailed it for me at least haha. My thought process is exactly what you said when I’m studying, I’m not gna leave a topic until I throughly understand the concepts and just whole dynamic of why it happens/works instead of just results, that’s the way I feel I can truly retain the knowledge beyond just exams on the following day but for anytime I’ll need it whether that be 1 week, 3 months or even 2 years later, why bother leaving looseholes in my knowledge if it just means I need to waste time revising again later, I’d rather just to something 100% the first time, I’m actually studying Mathematics with Economics too like you guessed
I’m a walking stereotype: an ISTJ accountant. 😄
INFJ psychotherapist here. Did corporate communications and employee engagement for a decade, then had a career switch to be a psychotherapist. Best career decision of my life. Fascinating, meaningful, and humbling to listen to people’s problems/life stories and provide support. INFJs will cope well in helping professions as long as we are mindful and actively regulate our thoughts and emotions.
INFJ here. I work as a preschool teacher, run the early childhood ministry at my church, and work as an assistant grader for a high school honours program. The thing about having a vision to pursue is so true about the church job.
I’ve tested ISFP and INFP several times each and still am not 100 percent sure on which one I am... I can really relate to both...my job fits in with both as a makeup/hair artist for film (faith and family based). I fell in love with my job 9 years ago on the first day of my first film....I still absolutely love it and feel like I’m not working when I am working because I love it so much....my perfect fit!
INTJ: Author, consultant, entrepreneur We want to be in control.
Totally lost as an INFJ after leaving a legal career. Grateful for any insight!
Im an INFJ too and a graduate and post grad in life sciences but lost interest from it
Never really had a "career." Several jobs though, and always felt lost. Now being creative. Think that was my "thing" all along. -fellow INFJ
Follow your gut. That's my advice as a fellow INFJ.
That must be hard. I am an INFJ and I felt so depressed when my life was so uncertain and lost. Just hold on and maybe start journaling or talking out loud to yourself(I do this sometimes when I am alone in my room and I get insights about myself that I did not think about previously). I think eventually you will see a pattern of things you love and wish to pursue.
@1378 К no
I am an INFP, when I was younger I wanted to be an artist. In Middle to high school I desperately wanted to be a writer, (but my parents were against it), I am now studying Psychology and will most likely do art and writing on the side , most likely for fandoms.
I followed a stereotypical INFJ career path, which means it went all over the place. 🙈 Finally found my place as a new location openings administrator for a tech company. Pays well, can be done remotely, and involves a bit of travel. Don’t worry, INFJ’s, your dream job is out there somewhere and you’ll find it...eventually. 😬
I am an INTJ who were forced to study engineering. Though my interest is more oriented towards law and consultancy. Now, that I am an adult and working, I did not end up working in engineering but rather in business consultancy-ish type of work. After watching this video, it does make sense why I prefer law and consultancy since the beginning. I just hope my boomer parents supported me back then. :(
I am INTJ & also in engineering (started working full time last year) but I can’t help but feel like I’d like a consulting job much more. How did you make the switch between the two? I would appreciate it so much!!
I just hope I can become a housewife since taking care of others is literally the only thing im good at (INFP)
I'm an INFP and I hate being a housewife:') Maybe hate is a strong word but it doesn't come naturally to me
@@katielarsen2630 hopefully you'll find something more enjoyable soon!
I want to be a teacher and when I have children a housewife! Infp as well.
The problem with that is society currently doesn't support raising children properly. Housespouseing leaves you potentially vuleranable if your spouse dies/gets sick or the relationship ends.
Have you considered being a nanny? A good training programme gives you paperwork for your resume, a career that can give you free world travel, and if you do become a housespouse you have career experience.
Bro sameee. I’m like can I skip the whole career thing and just be a mom 😂 never mind the fact that I first need a husband
fr tho - where are the INTPs that were never interested in math/science/programming/etc? I mean.. I dont hate those subjects but I'd never imagine myself following a career based on them :'))
Ya we dont really like that stuff.. This guy is ill infomed
@@DiamanteDea He's not ill-informed, as these are very common interests for this type. But we're all individuals, and not everyone fits the stereotypes of their type.
For what it's worth; I'm studying to be an architectural historian. Not sure which direction within this field I want to take, but it's different from what is usually mentioned. I do like STEM fields, but prefer reading about them rather than doing stem research myself.
Loved math but never liked the real world application of it. Just loved how it felt like a puzzle to figure out. Could not imagine pursuing any of those you listed as a career tho for sure haha
This was quite good and personally encouraging. As an INTJ, since 2015 I have been thinking about starting my own business - a management consulting firm. You just said owning a business or consulting is typical work for an INTJ to do. I will take that as another sign that sometime in the not to distant future I should go ahead and start up this business.
Also, your thoughts on E vs I resonated with me. I have done business development and marketing work and as an introvert I tend to have an easier time writing product description manuals or FAQs and sending emails regarding the products versus doing highly verbal actions like cold calling. I do them both fine, I just find the written work easier to do and I like thinking about what I am going to communicate instead of communicating on the fly.
Great job FJ! Thanks!
As an INTJ , I thank you for providing us with this information
I think I've chosen my future job right.
- INFP, writer
good luck for your career!
@@elmuchacho47 Thank you :D
When you said consulting for INTJ I immediately realize that being a psychiatrist/psychologist was a right thing to chose for my future later on. I was practically doubting myself for the moment when you explained what each letter would do but you got it right.
I took the MBTI in college and had to give a presentation of my best suited careers for the INFJ. It was for teachers, counselors, writers and corporate trainers. I like all these professions, but also found out at the end of the class that INFJs earn the least amount of money :(
reads 2 comments -> gets lost in thought -> realizes half the video is over and i have to rewind
As an INFJ, my childhood dream was to become a doctor like my father. Helping people always appealed to me. But I unfortunately never had the grades for it. I was an above average student, not an overachiever. I did really well in subjects that I liked, and did the bare minimum in subjects I didn't like. I was interested in programming, so I opted for a career in software engineering or web development. So, I have a BSc degree in computer science and statistics. But if I knew how difficult it is to get a job in this field as a newbie, I wouldn't have gone for it. I would've opted for a career as a maths or IT teacher to avoid this stress of unemployment. I'm still thinking about pursuing a PGCE qualification next year to become a certified teacher if I can't find a job in the field this year.
