    Once upon a time I owned an NFA Registered 1928 Thompson. My friends would joke that if anyone broke into my house would get 'machine gunned'. Wrong. My TSMG was the LAST of my firearms I would have used for home defense. As I said, if I put 9 .33 caliber holes (one round of 00 Buck) into a burglar, no one would care. If I put ONE round of .45 ACP from the Thompson into the same burglar, I'd be on nightly news as the 'homeowner who machine gunned the burglar.'

    Massad is so sensible in his recommendations, as they come from his extensive experience in studying self-defense shootings. Like he says, better that you don't have the Punisher skull adorning your self-defense firearm, lest you find yourself in the crosshairs of an overzealous prosecutor. Is it your RIGHT to decorate your gun? Sure, but that doesn't make it a wise choice.

    Thank you Mr. Ayoob for your many efforts to educate people like me. You have an almost unique range of experience from police duty, to competitive shooting, to teaching and writing; and you are a great communicator. I have never heard a better justification for AR rifles and high capacity magazines (for home defense use) than you have given. I wish the NRA would recruit you as an expert on this subject. The constant butting of heads between them and the Democrats goes nowhere. The case you make for this weapon for home defense is extremely easy to understand. In other videos you make the case for eliminating gun-free-zones to avoid mass shootings. If others (liberals) could hear these points, perhaps we could move in a positive direction. I guess one problem is that the left does not see your videos, and they take the NRA arguments as self-serving. I thank you for your clear and articulate communications.

    My problem with both machine guns and suppressors for defense is that neither really seems appropriate. I am not against civilian access and ownership to these things, I just don't see them as well suited for personal defense. Machine guns are really useful for fire and maneuver, where they can suppress an objective so that others can move on it. This is an offensive action, and soldiers will not be held accountable for every single round that they fire like a civilian defender. Your goal as a defender is not to suppress an objective, but to neutralize a specific threat as quickly and efficiently as possible, with the knowledge beforehand that you will be held fully accountable in court for everything you do. Ripping off automatic weapons inside urban areas is almost always going to be irresponsible when third party injury or death, and wanton destruction of property, can't simply be written off as collateral damage in the fog of war. And as for suppressors, personally, if I am shooting at someone, I want them to know they fucked up. I want there to be noise and blast, I want them to think the gates of hell are crashing open to swallow them whole. I want to know my neighbors heard. I want to know the cops have been called. Again, no problem with ownership or access. I just don't foresee many situations where either suppressors or fully automatic weapons are particularly useful for defense.

      Firing a Fully-Automatic weapon regarding a rifle is to be used only in 2 Scenarios.
      1). Close, Near and or Hasty Ambush via the L Formation.
      2). taking up the sustained rate of fire when the M-Six Zero is being reloaded or switching out barrels.
      **Go easy on the gates of hell stuff dude.

    His police looking for some one story is kinda funny. The way things are done differently in different places in the country.
    Back after I got hurt. Ga. State patrol came to my father's in law's farm. I was at his cabin with 2 broken legs. My wife was at work. The knocked I told them to open the door. They told me 2 inmates ran from the road gang that was working a few miles away. And they were letting everyone know. Well I ask them to hand me my 45 off the shelf. He did and also handed me the mag pouch for just in case.
    They came back later to make sure someone was home with me and checked in for the next 3 days untill the inmates were cought.

    A LEO once told me to if at all possible use the same ammunition as either you local police department or your county sheriff's department...see what they carry, and whats authorized for carry. If you are taken to trial you can basically say its the same thing as what police officers use to defend themselves not some baby killing bullet like the media or some crooked prosecutor might try and twist it as. Obviously this assumes your Local/County PD uses a caliber you use (some authorize multiple calibers however) but still.

    • @aran125
      @aran125 9 лет назад +1

      While I agree with that and have heard that also, who's to say that the prosecutor wouldn't pull the "but you're not a cop argument", and thus having the idiot, brainwashed, and anti gun jurors think the same way. The ammo I use, while it may not be the exact (maybe it is I don't know) ammo that my local cops carry, is used nationwide heavily by Police. Speer, federal Hst , and Remington golden saber bonded. Three very common hollowpoints used by LE.

    • @LYLEWOLD
      @LYLEWOLD 9 лет назад

      good thinking. I agree with the other poster that it may get turned around on you, but I think the odds of it being in your favor are better. thanks for the tip.

    • @nateo200
      @nateo200 9 лет назад +2

      aran125 The key phrase in allot of regulation and gun control has been a weapon or device or ammunition that is "in common usage". Its useful in court, honestly I could probably spin allot of arguments around but you can't go wrong with what your local LEO's use as well as nationally recognized brands and specific loads.

    • @aran125
      @aran125 9 лет назад +1

      Very true, it's just unfortunate that most of the idiot jurors won't know that, mainly because many of them are most definitely anti gun. The prosecutor's in knowing that is why they try to pull that bullshit with the hollowpoints because it can possibly make their case stronger. In the end if you have a good criminal defense atty that specializes in self defense shootings and if you truly were justified in pulling the trigger, then I don't feel it's a huge deal. Lawyers will he lawyers.

    • @johnmood5653
      @johnmood5653 8 лет назад +2

      +nateo200 Good ideas all. I am a retired LEO and have been carrying a handgun for over 40 years. Ayoob is one of the finest minds in the world about weapons use and the law, as well as self-defense.
      I would suggest that the term "Hollow Point" (as others have said (not you) NOT BE USED. It's called a "controlled expansion round". Why? To prevent or limit downrange liability. To a jury hollow point sounds like you were out to kill. FMJ ammo can and may over penetrate and go through a subject, then a wall, and wound a family member or an innocent neighbor. Zombie Bullets, fantasy bull droppings.
      Don't elucidate aggression, and don't make statements that WILL make you appear to be 'bloodthirsty'. Don't make ANY statements without your lawyer.
      HAVE shooter's insurance, even if you're an active LEO. Your city/county/state will have an attorney for you. But THEY PAY HIM, you don't, so their interest is in limiting the city/county/state liability. They will throw you under the bus if they have to - usually not - but a guy (or woman) YOU pay HAS to legally look out for you first.
      And without a doubt, Ayoob does know his stuff. Hopefully, you won't need to even draw, but if you do, you shoot only to stop the threat, not to kill
      A jury's perception of your actions can be shaped by any statement(s) you make, so don't make any without your lawyer.Cops, non-Cops have the same right not to make statements that may incriminate themselves as everyone else. Keep quiet until you have a lawyer present. It's a Constitutional right. For everyone.
      Part of what Ayoob is saying here is all about PERCEPTION by a prosecutor or a jury, and the wrong perception can fry your butt in court. I agree, DON't have a "Punisher" logo on your gun. If you're in the "Sandbox", no problem, it's a psychological weapon against the enemy in WAR... But not stateside.

    About 30 years ago, the Police pulled a criminal out of my backyard. He had housejacked my old neighbor a couple doors down, somebody called the Police on the unfamiliar individual, and he fled and hid in my yard at night behind my garage. I had seen lights flashing around outside, and cracked my side door open to acknowledge the officers and see what was happening, and the officer asked me to unlock the gate, so he could exit with the cuffed criminal, which I did.

    The government is ENJOINED from placing infringements on the people's right to "arms" whatsoever. It's absolutely outside their lawful Subject Matter Jurisdiction as applied to lawful uses and purposes. I mean, if the Constitution really means what it says. If you look up the legal definitions of the words used in the 2nd Amendment, it also supports that conclusion. An historical review of the founder's own writings on the subject is clear in supporting that view. Our governments are criminal because they're prima facie guilty of the crimes of FELONY USURPATION of Rights and Violation of Oath of Office, as a minimum.

We are not talking here whether a many scores of billionaire can possess for his defense a state of the art air wing of the F-35 for his personal defense, where the fit would arguably be much less.

      Because not EVERYONE can actually handle an 870 shotgun in emergency defence situation BUT most people can actually handle the .223/5.56 AR platform much easier as it's recoil and muzzle rise is much less. And AR won't bruise the shoulder of a 4 f 11" female who's 95lbs where an 870 pump WILL. ALSO as he stated something they HAVE to hold two handed may make them less able to defend themselves.

    Machine guns are effectively outlawed. No new machine guns are allowed to be manufactured for civilians increasing the costs of buying machine guns beyond the means of most people, plus the $200 tax, etc.
    I agree with Masaad, but he is speaking to the choir.

    So, my AR is flat out; guess my go to will be my shotgun - no wait! It's an 870 express TACTICAL; well i guess that's out too. OK, good to go with my Glock - oh no! It's a 43 X - & everyone knows that X means DANGEROUS! Damn, that X factor excludes my p365, too. Hmm; the m&p 340? Nope - it's chambered in .357 MAGNUM! Well, that wittles it down to my modest 442 (though i'm sure that there are plenty of knit wits who could be led to believe that 442 is some kind of ultra-radical racist militia code), lol.

    The machine gun tax stamp act which did away with most rates to full automatic weapons now you have to have NFA an onerous process to me fully automatic select fire full auto means basically either suppress the fire to suppress or basically just a waste of bullets for suppression fire I’ve used it before but I basically I prefer a semi auto I don’t like wasting bullets but dumb yeah you know the marijuana tax stamp act was actually patterned based on the machine gun tax stamp act that was done to do it with our first amendment rights and have the government tell us to smoke noxious chemicals like cigarettes and for videos from exercising our first amendment rights to smoke

    • @smokysantana
      @smokysantana 5 лет назад +4

      Rocky Finkhouse actually he’s not insane. Our constitution was written to preserve and protect our God given rights and that includes any kind of weapon. I didn’t hear him say we should be allowed to commit crimes of any sort with any kind of weapon. I agree that some people shouldn’t probably have full automatic weapons but the government is SUPPOSED to protect our rights to do so. I don’t think lots of people should own cars either but they do. Or make comments contrary to our constitution, but they do. I will stand up for your right to do that but I sure as hell don’t agree with you. You might not understand that this country won it’s freedom and independence as the result of an oppressive government’s attempt to disarm us

    I don't agree with anyone owning a suppressor. Reason is that poachers can use them to kill animals, mainly deer at night with impunity. However, if a shot is heard the poacher will be found out and caught hopefully. Also, it can be used by killers in a public area with many people present and they would not hear the report of the weapon. I see no need for such a device by anyone.

    • @HighSpeedNoDrag
      @HighSpeedNoDrag 2 года назад +1

      Well, poachers in Africa are the one's that should be shot on site. Killing the Elephants and Rhinos for their Ivory Tusks Field Expedient execution is Warranted on the spot in my book.
