I got on Craigs List after watching this and found two cast iron wings like these for $50. They’re perfectly square, strong and plenty of room for clamps. Thanks!
Love this idea. I would like you to include details as to your materials list…I.e. tubing lengths, size etc.
Awesome video!!!! You saved me a lot of money with this idea. Looking forward to the belt sander video. I am getting close to putting my shop together and I need a belt sander on a budget too. Have a great week. Keep up the awesome content Alex😁👍
Just an idea for your table bottom crossmembers . Square tube like you have already but instead of bolting it together just cut 4 pieces of C-Channel a few inches long , then have the open C pieces facing down then weld them to each end of the cross members . Then you can just set them with the C-Channel straddling your front to back stringers . Just a faster set up and teardown for mobility . Just a thought .
Thanks for the great ideas. I bought an old Craftsman table saw for $25 off Craigslist. Then removed the saw components, opened up the backside and welded two shelves inside. Added 2" casters. Left enough clearance to put my foot pedal under the bottom shelf. Doesn't fold up but it is sturdy and mobile.
That's awesome . Way to think out side the box. Thanks for the support. 🙏👊😎
Very nice build, great idea for the use of a old saw table. Thank you for the interesting videos you make.
Wow!!! What a great idea!!
I am definitely going to build one of those, so versatile and easy to store. Thank you so much for sharing.great video!!
Turned out great. Looking forward to seeing the belt sander 😉👍
Another awesome video thanks Alex! Definitely looking forward to the Beltsander video! Keep up the good work man!
I picked up one of these from an engineers daughter who had it laying around for over 20 years. It's such a beautiful piece of equipment. That one was $30 I've come across multiple under the $80 mark. Great ideas across the board.
By the way I love your RUclips handle
@@amcustomfab thanks buddy I created it after my first choice got taken after I procrastinated. I wanted to chime in back here, that as a quicker and easy and maybe cheaper option a rolling miter saw stand might be a good base for those that want the folding ability.
After watching your last video, I went and bought one of these Craftsman 113 saws and the one I got is 3HP! Only I didn't disassemble it. I cleaned it up and now I have a welding/fixture surface and a super stout table saw!!! Thanks for the great idea, it's not perfect but it's flat enough to do quality work, I'll be uploading some of my own videos of it and I'll be sure to link your video in it! :D
Cool design on the folding mechanism! Folds nice and flat. Love it!!! Keep the great content coming!
I like the folding legs. I'm just a hobbyist welder so I don't really need the portability but it might come in handy on occasion. One question I have is about the table top now that it's mounted on those widespread legs. Have you checked for sag across the table?
I was thinking it could be mounted to one side of a work bench, on a hinge, so it would hang when not in use, but could be folded up to match the height of the workbench with swing down legs for support. That way you save space when not in use, and you have the extra flat real estate when you need to weld something. I think I am going to try this on the back of one of my roll away tool chests. I have a 72" husky box that might be just right for the job.
@@jeffdesilva Those are snazzy. Please let us know how they turn out, and if they have adjustments to achieve good flatness between the two decks when deployed. Thanks for the heads up!
Great build! I would like to see a rotary table on this. You could put an axle bearing in the open area and have two round pieces of metal. the top having space for clamping and the bottom "smaller piece" to be able to spin with your foot. so when you have round welds to do. you can rotate with your foot and keep your hands in the same place. you could also use axle stops or callers to make it removeable for when not needed.
Great job. I liked the flip up stops. You could use those on two sides for making square joints instead of using the outside of the table. Also, clever idea reusing the miter gauge. I hope there will be more to this series. I already watched your videos on the clamps, belt grinder and the electromagnetic "vise" are all great options, I'm trying to think of more ways to use the parallel slots.
Thanks for the support. I still have parts left over and I still have ideas on functional tools that can be made with those parts just have to get the time to get the videos out I appreciate the insight ..
Love your energy and knowledge . And how you are willing to share every bit of it without acting like u know it all like most other fabricators on here. That earned my sub and notis with a like.keep it up bro u are helping a lot of people.
Thanks for the support 🙏👊😎
This is such a good idea. Super great way to get a flat, precise, cast iron table top for not much money. I just found one to buy tomorrow. Thank you very much! Great channel too btw!
Thanks for watching 😎🙏👊
Excellent project. I thought of a possible enhancement: where the throat plate is, maybe add some square tubing that you could use for clamping like you do with the webbing? Also, when it is folded up maybe a couple casters on one long edge would make it easy to roll to and from your truck; 100 pounds gets heavy fast if you have to carry it very far. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Great table! just an idea -- instead of bolting your horizontal bottom braces, could you use a locking shaft pin like for a pto or trailer and have a quick set up and take down?
I have used the saw top for this kind of project a few years ago. You can use the threaded holes on the side for a vice or grinder with a few peace’s of flat steal.
Yo Alex! That's a badass idea and design. I really dig your ingenuity , " out of the box mind set" and skills.✊️
Thanks. And thanks for watching 😎🙏👊
Thanks watching for further development of this idea
Use an old table saw top for a welding table is an excellent idea!!!!
Thanks for the support 🙏 😎👊 it has been working great
wow, soo professional for such a young fella with great ideas and skills.
I like the way you built the table and someone wanted a fold away table well there you go. Small work space I know how that is. Keep them ideas coming.
Great, thank you Sir! I was looking for this one after watching part one. You are a great engineer. Will definitely benefit from the belt sander video as well, thank you in advance👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@amcustomfab How did you weld to the cast-iron? I understand that's difficult to well too but you were able to get the steel tube to stick to it, is there any special technique? I just picked up the exact model you have from Facebook marketplace this morning and I am taking it apart now. Very excited to move forward.
Actually did not weld to the cast iron. I drilled pieces of flat bar and threw bolted from the bottom where the factory mounts were and then welded the leg frame to those pieces of flat bar.
once you see no guard on the grinder , and no gap in the fit up , you just know what sort of welder your watching.
Just picked up 3 of these table saws today
Thats a genius idea. Just got on FB Market place to find one for myself. Also, on a side note, do you have issues with messing your blades up on your Evolution saw when cutting at like 45 degrees angles? I've damaged 2 blades so far and ive probably only made around 100 cuts. Its like the blade catches as its about to pass completely through the metal.
There's a definitely a certain amount of finesse involved in lengthening the life of the blades you want to lunge slow at first, then you can speed up through the center of the cut and it slow down again at the end of the cut and make sure your materials supported so that it does not find on that last little piece before it breaks through the material. Appreciate you watching.
I found a working saw just like yours for $80 on Fakebook. Sold the 3HP motor to a friend for $50 (needed it for his air compressor). Stripped the guts and reinforced the legs with some scraps (bed frame rails) Thanks for the great idea. down the road I might put a stand like yours under it.. do you have drawings for what you built? Happy to throw a "service fee" your way for sharing..
I don't have drawings for the stand but I'm working on drawings for the belt. Sander
hey man, what size tubing did you use for the table? 1 1/2 square or? I ask because I'm copying your design to the letter. It's so clever!
Yes 1.5" square 😎 thanks for watching
Awesome Idea! just picked one up for myself, def gonna be a game changer for me, was thinking of trying to use some gas struts for the folding legs...think its doable? I do a lot of mobile work and have a tiny shop space so it would be nice to take it with or store it away.
I don't see why gas struts wouldn't work. That's a great idea. Depending on your folding mechanism, you might still want some sort of redundant lock to hold them open, but besides that I'd say give it a go
Great idea and GREAT VIDEO!
Love the channel i syndrome
Subbed bc of this video and the Playlist. I'm looking at one for 75 Hopefully talk him down to $50. People want 175-300 songs here they must have seen your video lol
I think I inflated the market 😂
This is a great idea
One addition I'm gonna use with my table. I ordered two craftsman miter guages with clamp stops to help with mitered welding. One guage for each slot ... angle it as needed...clamp it down before welding. Thanks for your video! Your inspiring new welders to get started inexpensive ideas. 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏😎👊
Another great part about this idea is that you dont have to go out and spend hundreds or thousands on special clamps. Everyone likely already has plenty of normal vise grip clamps.
Agreed thanks for watching 😎🙏👊
The video did not show what is securing the table to the frame you made or supporting the top when weight is on it. How exactly is the castvtop attached to the fab frame
It shows briefly at the 3:40 second mark there are a couple tabs welded to the frame that have holes that bolt into the existing threaded holes on the bottom of the casting
total noob question...when you're welding on the table wouldn't you accidentally weld your piece to the table?
That is definitely something you have to be aware of. But that's also what's great about this table is you can position your well joint over an open spot so that that does not happen. Thanks for watching 😎
That's pretty cool idea
underrated channel, great idea/design.
Nice job. Versatile.👍
Awesome I’m doin this
This is a very good idea!!
Good followup. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
I seen that thanks for the support 🙏👊😎 really appreciate it.
Just dropped part 3 😎

@@amcustomfab Great, I'll add it this week. Also, let me know if you want a free premium forum membership, and you can post your vids on the forum whenever you want. We have many YTers on board doing the same thing.
How do you attached the table to the legs/frame? 👀 Newbie welder here and I really need a welding table….Thanks for the awesome idea!
Just to let you know someone sent me a mess up reply wanted me to go to another site. It was made to look like you sent it. Just watch out for that kind of people 💩👿
I'm sorry yes this was not me please do not click on their sites report it. Thanks for watching 😎
Dude can I stick weld or do I need to mig weld? What size table saw is this btw?
You can absolutely stick weld it. This is a Craftsman model 113 table
Good idea, but those table saws are not cheap in my part of the country. And if you find them, you would be wise to use them as a table saw, way better than the cheap sheet metal ones that Craftsman made in later years.
Great idea, great project 👍
I bought a heavy duty steel cart on wheels with grease fittings. Tomorrow I have my eye on an old craftsman table saw all cast iron just like the one you have. I love creating useful stuff and maybe selling it. It’s my second build the first one was a three legged grinder table and I added a steel 12x60 grate from a parking lot drain. I cut it in half and spot welded them in a 24”x30” table top bolted to the grinder table so I can disassemble it and move it around in 2 pieces.
That’s great work. I like the weld positioned holder someone said in the comments with foot kick lazy Susan , don’t remember who said first.
MCD1 stylized number plates for sale now!
LOL
More Fab series please and thank you
funny i started watching part one of this video and by the time i was on part 2 i found THE SAME table saw you used for sale. Thanks for the video
Hind sight is 20/20; had you extended your frame out past the sides of the top, you wouldn’t need to clamp the tubing across the corners. Thanks for the movie!
Love it, a kindred spirit I have found....
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 😎
I've been looking for that table saw since your first video. Cheapest one I've seen so far was $150.
You might want to think about adding extra load bearing support for the heavy middle section. Those lattice wings are only meant to support wood as it passes over, and now you've got a few bolts holding the solid section plus your arms and whatever metal project you're working on. Bolts can stretch and tear unless you've got really good steel in them. Other than that, I'm stoked about this table!
You are correct I actually have the wings shimmed so the frame is supporting them past their bolts joint. Thanks for watching 🙏👊😎
@@amcustomfab Imagine that for some cosmically weird reason all four bolts give way at once. Would the shims hold it up, or would the table fall in your lap?
I'm just thinking that as the bolts stretch you could end up with a dip in the table after twenty years, putting minor errors into your work. Easy to correct, but you have to notice it. Of course all of this probably won't ever happen, but in my shop, any flat surface becomes a storage shelf or step-stool. Weight happens.
Now I wish I would have kept my old Craftsman table saw.
Perfect use for it.
Nice job.
What set up do you have for a vise and bench grinder?
I don't own either of those tools. I guess I have a tiny machinist vice that sits on top of the table like one of the little two inch ones if that counts?. No bench grinder. Just use hand grinders and belt sander Thanks for watching 😎
BRILLIANT!!!!!
Really nice job. Just what I was looking for. Thanks.
You mentioned the slag seems not to stick to the top a proper table saw will have 3 coats of wax on it . I wonder how ceramic wax would work to preserve the welding surface?
I need to get old table saw before this catches on!
💯
Great Job 👍I think you should keep it Light and portable it will be more useful in the long run for mobile jobs...
have you ever welded cast iron. My table is pretty flat i was thinking of just tacking the under side of the table where the wings connect to the main table. I saw that it can cause cracking, I dont want to mess it up. Any thoughts?
I would not try to weld the cast iron. I ended up drilling some holes in some flat plate bolting that to the existing threaded holes on the bottom side of the table and then welding the flat plate to my frame
@@amcustomfab yes I did see that. Ok thank you. Dude I am excited to build this table. I picked up the saw today. I’m amazed at how well built and well constructed even down to the fasteners. The table is.
Could always put pins in the crossbars instead of bolts. Like the ones that have a spring loaded ball bearing in them
Looking on facebook marketplace right now…amazing idea!
Thanks for part 2!
-What was the name of that square you used?
-What type of material are you using foe the stand?
The square is made by fireball tool. All the tubing is 1.5". .095 wall square tube thanks for watching 🙏👊😎
Use cooking spray to keep the welding spatter from sticking
That's a great idea. We'll have to give that a try. Thanks!
@@amcustomfab u are welcome
Great stuff
Whats the black fixture you used to "true" up your joints?
If you're referring to the welding square. I got it from fireball tool.com
@@amcustomfab Thank you
Fantastic, now I need to find a saw before mine falls victim!
I have seen those tables at my local scrap yard so now I'll need to about going and getting some
Hi I have a question-I have a line on a craftsman table, but I wanted to confirm, the table you bought are the side wings that attached to the main table, are they steel or aluminum?
They are steel
@@amcustomfab thanks
Thank you for watching
I’m definitely on the hunt for a old table saw.
A friend sent me the links to your two cheap weld table build videos. I was pretty good at welding in high school but didn't really keep up with it. Didn't have much need to. However, I have recently come into a hand-me-down stick welder and I do have a small list of projects I could do. This DIY table is just the thing I need and, it's at the right price! Thank you.
Awesome thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
So the RUclips algorithm finally directed me to something awesome. Great idea and work. You gained another sub. Like many others I will be building something similar.
Awesome thanks for watching and supporting the channel . Love seeing the different versions people are coming up with
Tag me on IG when you get it done so I can see it 😎
Wish I could find one for thirty bucks lol. Everything I find is 100$. I will keep looking. Love the build.
Offer $60 worst they can say is no 😎
Dude you are so starter friendly, I just got a machine and have only worked in structural steel for the past 6 months but you make it feel possible to have a on the go cheap table! Awesome videos keep it up 👍👏
Thanks for watching
Damn. Excellent idea!!
Thanks 🙏👊😎
You made me go to craigslist to find a used table saw. Bravo, for a great and usefully video! Keep them coming.........
Thanks for the support 😎
So, I see you are familiar with Fireball Tools. I've bought a variety of their squares and I had a thought for you... I was looking at my Magic Square that Jason sells and thinking it could be used in conjunction with a piece of bar stock so that you could quickly set clamp angles that are measured in degrees from the cross slide slot. Sort of a combination of a perma-square/protractor/fixture clamp. Jason is such a good dude, and always has an eye for innovation... I would bet that if you contacted him and showed him your idea, he would be on board for a fun side project combining his magic square with a cross slide tool.
I have met Jason he's a great guy. He's got some things in the works that are similar
Very cool! I know what I will be doing this weekend. When you build a sander please build a 2" x 72". I am getting started making knives and dont want to spend the money :)
I think the Sanders going to be 2x48
I like the creativity and video series. One thing I'd say for your table corner fixturing trick is to clamp 2 tubes diagonal across the corner on the top of the table instead of 1 below. It will be easier to clamp them, and easier to have the top plane of the tubes level since they'll butt up against 2 tubes held in plane by the machined table surface.
Agreed thanks for watching 😎
Great idea for a portable table 🍻🇨🇦👨🏭
Love the channel. Keep up the good work!
I am trying to find that model table near me because your repurpose fixture idea has gotten into my head😊 it is absolutely brilliant.
Thanks 😎
Brilliant - Thanks!
Thank you for watching 🙏👊😎
Got an old craftsman table saw in my scrap pile right now. Thanks for this fantastic idea. 👍🏻
Thank you for watching 😎
This is great! Keep it up brother!
Man this is such a smart idea. Well done!
Nicely done.
Thanks for the support 😎
I just purchased the exact table (Sears table saw) Hoping to be able to build the same setup
That's awesome looking forward to hearing about your results. 😎👍
Just got two of these tables for total of $30. Welding on it - -thank you!!!!
That's awesome congrats!!! Thanks for the support. 🙏👊😎
Job well done. Cheers
This table is awesome.
Awesome project!
I'd like to see more detail on how you fastened the legs to the table. This is a great series.
Bolted tabs through the existing threaded holes on the bottom of the table. Then welded those to the frame for the legs thanks for watching and supporting the channel 😎🙏👊
Love the simplicity of this.
Enjoying the content
