Just picked up this table saw for $75. Top is a little rusty, but she's a one owner saw and is in otherwise great condition. Found it on FB marketplace. They were asking $125. I've been looking for this saw since watching this video ~2 weeks ago. Excited to make the belt sander. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
Creative thinking! Ill have to keep my eye open for a table saw now. Been watching used stuff thats within reasonable driving distance for motor and some sort of frame material for my own build. This opens another avenue for it, thank you!
I've been a fan of the Craftsman "113" table saw as a "starter saw" for woodworkers for a long time. I'm impressed that you used so much of the old saw. Stellar video, and series man!
Great job. And if you are looking for more content ideas, don't be afraid to run with more ideas others have already built for RUclips, just show us how to make it better/cheaper/easier. My patent attorney told me in one of our very first conversations (yes, at one time I had a patent attorney) that patents are not designed exclusively to protect intellectual property. They are mostly to protect a specific design, but more to encourage improvement of an idea. With that in mind, there are some very clever ideas out there desperately in need of refinement. I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel... the projects are entertaining!
This short series has been amazing. I'm a firm believer in using the stuff laying around before I go buy materials, so a BIG thumbs up! Well done, young man.
What a great way to use an old table saw... Yes a part 2 on the belt sander would be great... Your fab skills are amazing now I have to watch more of your vid's Cheers R...
Nice! I'm finally building myself another shop so I have someplace to tinker in my retirement, and I'm planning on getting a welder. I've been watching videos while I get the construction done and ran across your welding table from an old table saw video, which led me here. I think I am going to like this channel.
Just subscribed. Fantastic build I've been thinking about making a belt sander for the longest time and now you've given me some good ideas. Great video thumbs up.
1] One of the best tips from the build is locating the handle at the center of gravity. I do that all the time 2] Being right handed you spent time and effort reversing the motor rotation when you could have simply done the build with the motor mounted on the RIGHT HAND side of the belt. Sometimes being a lefty has its advantages, but the worst part of being left handed is how grinders rotate the 'wrong' direction for us south paws. Nice build
That's great. I would love to see some plans/dimensions to roughly work from. A pivoting rest would be a good thing to add on, to help sanding at a specific angle.
I love it!!! I was wondering what to do with the motor off of the Craftsman table saw I bought. Really, really smart build. I'll copy your design after I finish the welding table. I thought the link for the pulleys is a reasonable price. Thank you for the instructional video and keep them coming.
Just seen this video. DUDE you're awesome. Just love how you utilize bits and pieces and used items to make awesome tools. You have an old skool style of being thrifty which I can appreciate. Thank You!
Great job with the belt grinder. Love that you used the remaining table saw parts. PLEASE for your safety (and for new content) make a vice for your drill press. It's only a matter of time before a drill bit grabs breaking through the backside of a part and makes a scrap metal helicopter that tears you to shreads. Be safe!
I'm so wanting to build a grinder to get into the knife making hobby, but my biggest obstacles are lack of access to a welder and available real estate on the workbench in my shed is at a premium.
It’s a great idea but I might have welded the front frame in a way that had more of a setback so you could angle stuff a little behind the belt, but great job.
Very cool! I want to see you build a mag drill. Use those electro magnets you used in the vise, graft them to a Craigslist or facebook market place small drill press. Or find one of those old school Craftsman "Turn your drill into a drill press kits" and slap some electromagnets and a big ol' drill on it.
That's a great build! I've been wanting to build a budget belt grinder and your video has given me some inspiration. Unfortunately the only motor I have to use is an old garbage disposal motor. I haven't looked at it to see if I can mount a belt pulley to it or if the motor itself can handle driving a sanding belt. Thanks for the inspiration and awesome work! 👍
@AM Custom fab a light switch, old school dials/buttons, or connecting it via voice command... since many people are enjoying the "internet if things." How much would you charge for such a thing... Especially if you can have it auto-order the belts when you/they are running low... Making a 'subscription based service' would give a potential for repeat customers (Especially if it is made with the old school - Proudly 'Made in the U.S.A.' stamp of recognition; or any other country of origin.) Mhmmm, jobs for those that are into quality service and products... plus the other jobs it would create. (Transportation, logistics, research into better products, etc) Not to mention, the amount of wasted production time of products that aren't really in high demand, would be reduced, creating for more streamlined aspects for all that use and provide... Win-win...
I love the table saw/ belt sander! Challenge for you. I have a floor mount hydraulic press I use a lot. I am accumulating a bunch of mandrels ect. Ideas on storage ?
Awesome job! I only wish there was more clearance where the frame comes close to the platen. I’m a semi pro knife sharpener and realize that bolsters and handles can get in the way really quick.
Great video! Thank you! 1 question the structor holding the plantum if doing knives would it no get in your way? AS far as like your hand holding the knife. But I didn't know if you were gunna make knives with it lol
That is definitely a possibility. Is definitely not the quote best design out there. The goal for this build was to use as many parks remaining from the table saw weld table build . Thanks for watching 😎
I am a novice and beginner welder and fabricator and woodworker by trade. I haven’t had good luck good luck with drill bits and that type of stuff. Is there a way you could go through tips and tricks and which bits to buy. Also countersink and chamfering bits.
nicely done, i'm going down the same path. i have the same craftsman table saw and in the process of making a fabrication table and belt grinder out of it. I have the saw completely apart and table mostly done, one thing I noticed though is on mine the motor says that it is NOT reversable. so guess i'll do the belt sander with the motor on the other side. Question, do you have plans/measurements for your belt grinder build? I can noodle it out, but it's just wondering...
Cool build! I noticed you have an evolution saw. I've been eyeballing a dry saw for a while, how are you liking yours? cheers, thanks for sharing your build!
Hey, it’s Jay, signing on and subscribing through my channel. Great job on the belt sander. I’m still looking for the old craftsman table saw! When I find one I definitely will not throw out the parts I strip off. Looks like it works really well. Do the drive wheels come in different shaft diameters? Is the craftsman a standard size?
The drive wheel was a standard 5/8 shaft with key way and The idler pulleys were half inch ID on the bearings so I used half 13 bolts to fasten them to my framework.
Thank you very much. Found my old Craftsman table saw and am cleaning it up right now. Ordered the strip discs that you linked to. Appreciate your videos. @@amcustomfab
Mostly use the 66 tooth. Seems to be the best all around. If you're cutting super thin material though, you just have to plunge a little slower so it doesn't grab hard .
Ok. I have all this stuff laying around. I’ve had most of the stuff you build just laying around. I’m afraid I’m gonna have to ask you to stop snooping around my place. Kinda creepy. Or at least stop and say hi and have a beer.
Hey...wait a minute. I didn't see you use that cool magnetic fixture when you were grinding the plate. Did you break it already? 😁 Also, just out of curiosity, do you think the front piece of angle on the frame (the part that the platen is mounted to) will get in the way of anything when you use the sander. I was thinking if it was turned around, it would be out of the way which might be helpful sometimes..
When the SHTF, I want this guy on my team! Thanks for the great vid!
Lol best comment ever thanks for watching 😎

Wise and caring man for helping the beginner to achieve their potential 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for the support 🙏👊😎
I may do this with the remaining parts from the saw I got. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for watching
Bring on part two, very simple yet budget friendly and effective. I dig this design.
Definitely in on a part 2 tube notcher.

What a spectacular series of videos. Please, please, please make a tubing notcher video!
Nice job Alex 😁👍I have been waiting for this. Turned out Bad A$$ can’t wait for part two. Thanks for the video 😁👍🚜💨🍳
This short series has been amazing. I'm a firm believer in using the stuff laying around before I go buy materials, so a BIG thumbs up! Well done, young man.
Yes, do a Part 2, add to the grinder. Great video. 👍
Dude!! Outstanding! When you first started with that angle iron, I was dubious. You pulled it off, masterfully. Well done, keep em coming.
Thanks for the support 😎👊🙏
You already know the answer on part 2! Great idea Alex. I have a cheap tubing notcher but it would be cool to be able to use the belt sander too
Great job! You did a lot of work in one video. It's doable with simple tools and I like how you used your homemade welding table to do a lot of it.
Thank you very much!
Good job on a nice budget build. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Great job yes to a part 2
Nice build. Very creative. 👍 Part 2 maybe add a platform on the front for material to rest on.
Yes, please make dust tray and tubing notcher

My new favorite channel! Love this type of content as well as a great communicator and creative mind.
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 👊😎
That’s just awesome my friend keep up the great videos
I built the welding table. Going to build this next when the rollers come in. Thank you
That's awesome tag me on IG when you are finished I would love to see your results 😎
Outstanding job!!! Part 2 for sure. Keep up the good videos. Tubing notching would be great.
This is a cool concept. I had an electric mower that was garbage but the motor in it was strong. I’m going to make a belt grinder!
I would love to see this when you're done tag me on Instagram when it's finished 😎

That's a good idea you're not the first person to ask about plans trying to decide the best way to do it 😎
YES YES Great idea please and Thank you😇
@@amcustomfab you ever figure out how to distribute plans for this? Would be really interested.
Awesome belt sander. Pipe notcher for sure.
Excellent video, I like to repurpose as much as I can too!!

Would you have a sketch of this with some measurements? Good video. Thanks for sharing!
Great video. I really enjoy your channel and get tonnes of ideas for my own shop

That’s frickin cool. I am going to build one, just need some more shop space, if that exists…
great re-purpose, you definitly need to offers plans for some of these builds..
In process getting plans done for this build
Dude, this is incredible!! Hunting marketplace right now 😂
👊😎
Nice work!
Thanks!

Please, keep going with this build, Next step may be sturdy tool/part rest?
Drill bit sharpener jig or attachment would be another great idea as well for it
I like this idea 😎
It’s a great idea but I might have welded the front frame in a way that had more of a setback so you could angle stuff a little behind the belt, but great job.
I would glad to take that criticism. Super constructive. Thanks for watching 😎

Yum, a switch to automatically change the different belts would be pretty sweet... especially for keeping the belts clean with certain metals...

That will probably happen if I do have part two thanks for watching 🙏👊😎

Thanks!

How do you figure the placement of the wheels? Or just the overall height and length that makes this work?
I just sat the wheels inside of the belt so I knew where the parameters were and then just reverse engineered it from there
Add a tool rest in front of the platen.
Cool build! I noticed you have an evolution saw. I've been eyeballing a dry saw for a while, how are you liking yours?
cheers, thanks for sharing your build!
I absolutely love it second best purchase to my welder
well.. now I have to buy one.. thanks.. hahaha

Does this factor in the cost of a welding machine? 😉. I would really like to have one to be able to build these kinds of machines.
