I came into this like "this guy is going to be using stuff he got for free. What life hack could he had possibly found." The second you cut to the table saw it clicked for me, f-ing genius man!
Exactly what Jeremy said!!!
@@kevinstephens1109 I actually have an update to this, there were a bunch of these tables within an hour of me that are for sale. I just picked one up last night about 20 minutes away for $60 that has the extension on both sides and came with an extra
@@jeremydale7263 where are you located?

Ingenious! I'm not going to lie, the instant I saw that you were going to cannibalize a cast iron topped table saw, I got a bit grumpy but you've won me over with your ingenuity and the willingness to use all of the parts and not just scavenge the top.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
I love it! My friends all laughed at me when I told them that I use an old Craftsman cast iron table saw for a welding table, and I have emailed them links to your video. To my friends, "In your face!"
Your clamping ideas are good, I'm going to try them.
Genius!!! I’m keeping my eyes open for one for myself now. Thanks for the great idea, love your videos.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video Alex! That’s too funny you mentioned making the belt sander with the leftover stuff because that was my exact thought when I first saw it all on. The table. I’ve been thinking about making one for the past couple months just trying to figure out the easiest and best way to make it happen. Definitely some good parts there to get started!
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Just snagged this exact table saw off FB marketplace for $40 because the switch doesnt work anymore. Thank you brother! Easy Sub.
Awesome
I used to have a welding table I built from a table saw top, it worked great. I love the idea of building a belt sander with some of the left over parts.
Omfg. BRILLIANT!! thanks bud! I just found an identical one on Craigslist for $20. On my way now to get it
Nice tag me on instagram when you're done with it. I'm loving seeing what people are doing with them 😎
That's a brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for not showing it in tje thumbnail and shkwing something that you bought
hmmm, $30? I guess we aren't including the materials? I was wondering how you'd secure a top alone, for less than $30 in materials by itself. Thanks for the vid, wish I had a free tablesaw top laying around here.
I paid $30 for the entire saw
Impressive! Resourceful, innovative, young man. Rare these days. Gonna keep checking back.
I did this with and old saw years ago and worked great. I found the cast iron shed spatter better than most new tables. I was planning to make almost same video in the future. I will see what I can do differently. Great video. Subbed.
Look forward to it 😎
I like it and I just threw one away "POOT"
I Love this kind of stuff. So many people just buy new stuff and pass over on something super functional and cost effective. This is perfect.
Thanks for the support 😎👊
For the stop block nuts I would use wing nuts for time saving purposes but I do like where you're going with this he's a good work up
Could have left the saw as it was and put a sanding disk on it for grinding and the fence could be used for welding setups as well
Another idea: 1 inch thick particle board with sheet metal on top. Not very clampable and can burn if your weld is too hot, but has done the job for me for many years.
This could also work as a poor man’s surface plate, as long as you are looking for relative accurate and not perfect accuracy. I like it
Depending on the tolerance you want to hold that could be true . thanks for watching 😎🙏👊
I'd be interested in seeing your take on a belt sander. Good luck and thanks for the content.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Instead of building a belt sander with your table saw parts, you build a tubing notcher to be able to get multi plane notches.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
You could probably drill holes to make a grid for the middle piece
In the works 😎
Love this idea. I've been looking at the pro ones and they start around $1000. I just love to tinker and will be doing things around the homestead. Also being a knife maker, the idea of making a belt grinder is appealing so I am going to start keeping my eyes open for a old table saw.
Ideas for improvements: Use wing nuts on your stops for ease of use and maybe epoxy the bolt on the inside so it's 'captive'. Add a set of wheels on one end and either removable legs or have them shaped like "H" and have them fold toward each other but one nest inside the other and be able to use the wheels to cart it like a wheelbarrow. That would allow you to roll it around alone and probably get the non-wheeled end up onto the tailgate to then pull it into the bed of a pickup.
Yes, build the belt sander with thouse parts, good pick
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Please make a belt sander with the remaining table saw parts!
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Love the idea. trying to think of a way to setup different fixtures repeatedly (i.e. install setup 1, remove and install setup 2, remove install setup 3, then go back to setup 1 accurately)
not a bad idea although $30 is a clickbait claim if there ever was one - that exact saw is $120-200 all day in my local craigslist
All depends on where you're at and how patient you are I just had two different people email me saying that they picked one up for free
And my buddy just got one from the local restore for $20 last month
LOL but I'd also like to think that I inflated the market with this video 😂💪
I'm from the US but a better example for those metric system viewers would be 69cm x 112cm . Also when you said 600mm x 1100 mm you meant 700 mm I believe.
Great idea. Repurposing items like that takes true imagination.
Genius.
Can't wait to see the belt sander. Subscribed!
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Cool idea, I’m going to try this. I’m new to welding and have been looking for ideas of a mobile work area that won’t break the bank. Belt sander idea is cool too. Looking forward to the next video.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Great idea and I hope you use the other components of the table saw to make more projects.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Everytime I see a 113 disassembled, I feel like the best time of America is over.
That table is a great idea. I just happen to have one of those Craftsman table saws in my garage that I got from my dad several years ago. I have a Jet cabinet saw so the Craftsman really just collects dust and whatever other bits and pieces I set on top of it. It might have to migrate to a new life as a welding table.
And yes on the belt sander.
Also, I just subscribed. I'd like to see what other interesting things you can come up with.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Great idea. Especially knowing that table is 100 pounds of ground cast iron to start with.
Sander project sounds great too, but how about if you crank the blade down below the deck surface, and keep it as a table saw too.
Although removing the saw parts would eliminate a lot of weight, especially if you were going to move it around a lot for mobile use.
Another good video.
I first found your channel when you got your Langmire CNC plasma cutter.
How is that machine working over time? Would you still recommend buying the Langmire Crossfire PRO ?
Take care Bud
I still use the crossfire pro every week it's a great machine
Holy crap, that shaft bearing is in damn good shape
This suits my 3 R’s: recycle, repurpose and reuse. This is a fairly simple approach. Thanks for sharing
Terrific idea! I have been looking for a budget table. I'll send you a pic when I find it. Bet it looks familiar
Dude! Freakin Genius! Subbed. Definitely wanna see a sander build. BTW, I have that exact table saw from 1990 that I still use! 3rd motor (went to 3 amp 220v), new steel adjustment wheels, put both wings on one side and installed a cast iron router extension table on the other and rigged up a better dust collection.
Subscribed ! Eagerly waiting to see how this table will look like with folding legs and casters. Also interested to see belt sander project
Grab a couple of those saws land you could make a table up from just wings. You'd lose the T-slots but could clamp just about anywhere.
You should make collapsible legs that winds up and down like a scissor jack/scissor lift. That way when your done you just wind it down and load it up
Wow, I agree with many others below, what a GREAT idea and wait there's more, it's very affordable and expandable. There's always a ton of these around cheap or free. Great video, thanks so much.
Excellent idea and if you connect a few of them you could have a huge table
44.5 Kilograms that's way over your carry on allowance at the airport.
12 inch disk sander with little table is going to be more useful for chamfers. I would keep the blade, remove teeth, stick 12" sanding discs, run a dimmer switch to control motor rpm.
Would be hard to find a dimmer switch that would be rated for the amps that the 1 hp mother will pull. Alot of electric motors will burn up if you run them on low voltage.
@@tubeonline629 not to much resistance on motor if your just disk sanding, and if your worried you can change pulley, but some nice variable speed controllers are available cheap, or take one off a router that is going to be used for an additional flat surface.
Safety glasses and mask when you remove crap like rust, paint and scale. 😬
I have been using an old table saw, stripped down multiple times, not a pro' just a DIYer.
I love this idea. I wonder if the older table saw with all square holes in the extensions would work ok. I'm wondering if you could get the clamps in there? I can get either style for $50. But the one with the all square hole has 3 extensions. I wonder if I could just bolt all the extensions together? Here's a video of the style saw I'm talking about. ruclips.net/video/S_Ini3Hdu_E/видео.html
I don't see why that would not work
Awesome repurpose. People sometimes do not know what they throw away or get rid off. The older equipment is much better then newer ones, more solid. I've come across a lot of good stuff I have repurposed in so many ways, so this video is right up my alley. But this is an awesome way to make a welding table. I just started welding and came across this video. You grabbed my attention by the build under $30 title, I thought you were going to use some thick ply and cover it with a sheet metal, even doing that can be expensive when you purchase raw materials.
Not sure if the old stuff is necessarily better. I'll definitely vouch that it's heavier. Usually a plus. Found my last cast top saw at the garbage transfer station. That'll make four as now, highest $= $30. Router table, designated tenon cutter for log rails/furniture.
Cool. A person could even possibly put the center section on a cnc plasma machine, and pierce some peg hole patterns in it, too.
You could make a rotary tilting welding positioner with that mechanism maybe.
Also, you could drill some 5/8 (or whatever) to that center section to utilize yer standard fixture table clamps. Difficult to place them accurately for layout, but you'd at least have places to put the clamps.
tip: annular cutters usually do a great job of making accurate holes if you have access. If you use twist drills, best to drill undersize and ream to final dimension.
🤫 your going to spill the beans about the second part of the build .😎 Thanks for watching 🙏👊
@@amcustomfab Sorry. I take it back. IT WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA. everyone quit reading this. Nothing to see here. Just forget you ever heard it. 😉
Also, I just thought of a possible solution to the accurate hole placement problem. If you haven't already figured one out, let me know and I'll tell ya my thoughts.
Dang, I have been looking for that table saw. I have the same one with a flex drive, but have been looking for a belt drive.
Woot woot! This video is doing great! God is good!
I actually gave a direct drive saw (cast iron top) to a friend of mine recently after I got a better one. If he decides not to use it, I’m going to repurpose it!
I chuckled when I saw the saw! I have been using my Craftsman table saw top (identical to this one) as a flat welding table for years. I didn’t take it off the stand but reinforced that to keep it more ridged. Yes you do have to keep it clean or you have some small barbecues! I would like to see a belt sander made too.
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
just found one on Market place on FB for 50.00...what a deal and great idea
You sir are a genius. Great idea!
Awesome video, just started to learn how to weld so interested to see where this goes. Off to watch more of your videos!
I honestly watched this expecting to see some of the same idiotic hacks that are rampant on RUclips. Instead, I was treated to a very clever idea. For someone who is just getting their feet wet with welding, or when space is limited, this is a sound and reasonable way to make a welding deck on a budget. Nicely done!
Thanks for watching 🙏😎👊 I appreciate the feedback.
I think a belt sander would be good I built a 26 inch belt sander and it is one of the most used tools in my shop and very easy to build I used the wheels off of a lawn mower deck to run the belt on
I put one on a lathe and flattened a little where the belt would run true works like a store bought one
This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing. Subscribed....
I was lucky enough not to buy the first table saw I saw lol because it was an outdoor table and it was rusted badly so I kept looking on facebook marketplace and less than a week later I found a similar table all cast iron measuring 27”x 44” inches. And it was garage kept. Everything came apart quickly. The 3 HP motor was already removed so it was a two man job to put it in my van yesterday. I put it in upside down so I had easy access to the bolts and nuts. I didn’t even need WD 40 once I broke loose the nut I could use my hands the rest of the way. It’s completely disassembled now on my 30” length 24” width 32” height on a heavy duty steel cart 1/8” thickness so now I’ll either bolt it directly on top or my other idea is to use (4) 1” black pipe nipples 4” length and (8) floor flanges to lift the table top off the cart. Since I’m 6’ 4” a 37 5/8” table height would probably be better for my back or I could use an adjustable stool I purchased from Facebook marketplace too.😅 Thanks for the inspiration
Awesome glad you found one 😎 thanks for watching
Very clever. I will be looking for one at my local landfill. Free is in my budget.
I own that exact tablesaw and with a few upgrades it makes it a pretty nice saw. I use similar fixtures for woodworking glue ups, but for obvious reasons I never considered welding on it. Great video! I need to find another tablesaw I guess. Hope to see a belt sander from you. Cheers
Great job bro. Enjoyed the video great idea and would like to see the 2nd part or finished product of the table --- and yes I would enjoy you making a belt sander from remaining parts can't wait --- awesome 👍
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
So for those of you that have done this. Does welding directly on top of this trash the table bad enough where you can't use it for a table saw ever again?
So far no but only time will tell 😎
GREAT!!! now all these people on marketplace are going to start jacking up the price of these old table saws because people are snapping them up left and right. Gotta find one fast now. Awesoe idea, definitely did not wwant to spend $1,000 on a table. Probably just end up eating lunch at it.
🤣
Great idea, I’m acquiring materials now to build one. I found a deal on 2x2 square tubing that is 16 gauge. Is 16 gauge adequate thickness for this?
Should be for just legs. All depends on how heavy things you plan to put on it
Leave the motor in it and put a car Brandon wheel on it instead of the wood blade and you have a useful tool for metal work
I have to say this is a great video. But damn, there is no longer going to be any old cast iron table saws left to buy. Once your video gets released EVERYBODY that wanted a welding table but could not afford one will be buying them up. That includes me!
Yeah I think I actually inflated the market a little bit. The price went up on them after I made this video
Not to be too criticizing but your not going to get anything flat with a piece of square tubing!
Thought about using my old table saw today and google diy welding table and you sold me
GREAT IDEA I ALWAYS WANTED ON BUT COULDNT AFFORD IT BUT NOW I CAN THANKS
smart guy! ... resources all around us, if you can see them.
That really has me thinking. Looking for one soon.
Great idea... going to look for one now.👍🍻🤠
The price of steel is waaaay more then the price of the table as he tells us
I think I like this guy. He thinks like a cheap old bastard like me, except for the old part. The boneyard is the first place I go shopping.
I will take that as a compliment 😎 thanks for watching 👊.
Super cool idea! I'm headed to CL to find a table! YOU THE MAN
Thanks for watching 😎
A lot of welding tables have a grid of holes like your one. It reminds me of an mft top used in woodworking. If i were to get a sheet of metal and drill the same holes and slapped it on top of my mft, that would work as a welding table in a budget, right? Particularly as i could reuse my mft clamps and dogs. Thoughts?
My main concern would be fire hazard . With wood underneath
Genius. I'm shopping now.
2:06 you say Cast Iron 2:13 you say steel. Both cannot be true at same time?
Why not…in regards to your earlier question.
Awesome idea!
Just picked up one identical to yours for $30. It's in great shape. I found it after missing out on one that sold for $50.
Nice...
Yeah you should make a belt sander that's a no brainer man
Cool video thanks
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
Should have wing nuts for side pieces, but this is the smartest shit I've ever seen. Also should make it with dowels for easy perfect assembly.
Great ideas thanks for watching 😎
Watching the video from Australia and crying...
😥😥
I understand the concept here and reasoning, I just hate that you had to sacrifice 1 of the best made tablesaws ever created, I have that same saw for woodworking, it's been 1 of the best purchases I ever made, seems like everyone on the web now wants a SawStop brand.
The good thing is though, now I know what to do with my old saw if I ever get myself a SawStop tablesaw.
I believe a disc sander would be a much easier build & equally functional in a metal working environment.
That would have been good too ended up making a belt sander here is a link to the build video 😎
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.htmlsi=sOt5xzc8HoHArMSZ
Very nice idea,I should have not given away my old table saw. Good job
Thanks for watching appreciate the support. 👊😎
I’m wondering if the table saw with the electronics would be a sufficient welding table with the same stand? Not sure if there would be stability or grounding issues?
Should be fine the biggest concern would be cleaning the sawdust out so it's not a fire hazard.
Question - will it work to clamp my ground to this cast iron table, or will I have to clamp directly to the workpiece?
You can clamp your ground to the table
Outstanding...Well done.
Great vid! Thanks for the ideas
I have a old ryobi table saw. It's sad. But.. I think the guts will work good for a belt sander. :)
ruclips.net/video/T6nECgRL6Lg/видео.html
damn now that's a great idea. awesome bro
This is extremely smart
I totally thought this was going to be incredibly hacky, but then damn. Turned super useful looking! Gonna grab me a table saw!
