    To be honest the Kettlebell Kings Competition Kettlebell is a dang good piece of hardware. Quality is unmatched. It looks wicked cool. And it's highly functional. But...there is one thing I'm not a huge fan of.

    You mentioned that the QC on KK bells are awesome, but that hasn't been my experience. I ordered two 24kg comp bells from them, and one of them had a chunk of loose steel rattling around inside the hollow cavity, large enough where it couldn't be removed. It made the whole thing ring like a... well, like a bell. When I contacted them, they took over a month to respond and even longer to replace the bell.

      Dang! That’s not good. That would annoy the piss out of me. I would like to hope that would be a one off case. But the lack or response is definitely suspect. Brands need to stay on top of that.

    I use a pair of SPRI adjustable kettle bells. It takes 1" center hole dumb bell plates, and adjusts from 15 to 50 pounds. They cost about 65 bucks each without the plates. I already had plates. The window and handle are good. The handle is mostly straight, excellent for a one hand grip on the straight part, breaking into a curve that's slight enough to allow a good two hand grip for swings, etc. There's no discernable seam, and the whole bell is finished in a Hammerite kind of finish that can stick or slip depending on what you're aiming for.
    Probably not good for a facility, but very good for a home gym.
    Good video, thanks.

      I think these are great for swings. Especially for playing around with very different weights. The only issue with these is cleans and snatches can pose a problem when “catching” on said positions. Plates aren’t great for that. But for a home gym looking to add some swing variations? Absolutely. Thanks for hanging out!

    I have a large set (2 of each in kg: 10, 14, 18, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40) of KB Kings comp bells as well as some Rogue powder coat cast iron bells. Once you get use to the comp bells the comparison goes away, it seems downright silly to do anything besides two handed swings and maybe goblet squats with iron bells. That said it's a hell of an investment and probably not worth it except for KB competitors, people with more money than they know what to do with or people like me that have become committed to home gym life.

      What's the point of having 2 sets of 10 or 14 kg? I can understand heavier ones like 24 , 32 or even 20 or 16 kg?

  • @bushcraftnorthof6012
    @bushcraftnorthof6012 Год назад +3

    Big handle diameter builds big grip strength! I only use cast iron bells, 32 and 24 kg. I'm scared to try competition bells in case I like them and need to buy more.

    • @WhoIsJonHarris
      @WhoIsJonHarris  Год назад +2

      This is a fair assessment haha. I think I like the iron and bigger handle as well. I did some swings with a 203lb bell and the handle was a monster for sure.

    • @bobdole7292
      @bobdole7292 Год назад +2

      Eh that’s kind of a bad point. You can get a kettlebell with a lesser diameter and wrap a towel or any number of things around the handle to challenge grip.. you can also train grip in other ways
      When you’re doing things like cleans, snatches, etc., your grip is also going to fail before you posterior chain, legs, core, etc.
      So it’s actually not a good idea to have bigger diameter bells.
      There is a time to work grip and there is a time to work the movements. You’re not going to get very far with lifting if your workouts are limited by grip
      The world record deadlift is 500 kilos (501 if you count Thor’s)
      Iirc the world record double overhand (which negates any grip manipulation advantage )
      Is like 600 something...pounds .. 600 pounds vs 500 kilograms with the only difference being grip

      Agree w you completely bob dole. I have small hands & can only use competition bells. Whenever i use a larger handle bell, my forearms are maxed out to 100%, while legs & back are at around 50-60%. Its not an efficient way to go

    In the sport there is no emphasis on am active wrist. If your doing sport levels of volume an active wrist is going to severly limit your numbers.

    IMO (worth what you paid for it) if you’re going to devote serious time and effort to progressing with kettlebells you should use comp bells
    You’re a CrossFit guy some I’m assuming you do a ton of barbell work
    Would you use a barbell with a different diameter for every weight change you did ?
    Would you use a differently shaped barbell for every weight ?
    There is some deviation with Olympic vs powerlifting bars, but they’re pretty standardized
    Not sure why anyone would want to try to learn to, for example, clean and press a kettlebell and finally engrain the neural pathways to become proficient at the movement only to pick a heavier weight and have to learn a new movement pattern for the heavier weights

    • @WhoIsJonHarris
      @WhoIsJonHarris  Год назад

      I agree with all of your points. I don’t really have a problem with the diameter of the handle. I can appreciate the standardized size while going up in weight. I just find it odd that the distance from the bottom of the handle to the top of the bell seems to be closer than any other bell I’ve used. Even other comp bells that I own. Which I have some from two other brands. I come from a more hardstyle approach to bells more so than sport. So the snatch technique isn’t quite the same. So while catching the snatch at the top it feels more up towards the back of my hand rather than at the wrist. Just feels off. Catching in the bend of the handle seems to be a sport style preference for this reason. Not something you do for more of a hardstyle technique. I don’t dislike the bell. Just feels different from the others that I have.

    Shiny handle is very difficult. Also using too much sandpaper on them ( by layman not pros) makes it very diff. Powdered coated ones are easier

    The competition bell you catch in the corner. It’s way more comfortable than an iron bell if you catch it right. That being said I use both.

    Standard iron vs Competition?
    Either is great for single kettlebell work but when using two kettlebells the bulky size of the Competition I don’t like.
    I buy all mine used and have a good selection of Competition bells I paid 1/4 the price of new that were unused sitting in people’s closets.
    I still like Standard iron though as I feel self training my injury risk is less with less bulk.
    By budget default and opportunity I am mostly Competition though.

    • @WhoIsJonHarris

      I have to say I think I’m on the same page. I just WANTED to love this bell. Just finished a snatch and front rack carry workout and the standard iron just feels better.

      Bulky size of the competition ?
      Once you get to moderate weight cast iron they’re the same size as comp bells, and heavier iron bells are anywhere from a little bigger to much bigger than comp bells

      Your absolutely right about the sizes. 👍
      Mine even out in physical size at about 32kg.
      I have competition for two 38kg, two 40kg and two 48kg for my heavier work.
      I still prefer the standard handles though and that’s a big deal for me. Could be the type of training I do, it’s a comfort and control thing doing compound workouts six days on with one maybe two days off.
      I’m lucky to have the time and ability train as much as I do.
