Having suffered with some serious depression these past two weeks, probably the worst I've felt in my life, I just randomly stumbled on this today and was completely captivated. Depression is a weird one, and is very hard to explain/understand, but the lack of joy in anything is a big part of it. The fact the I could be captivated by something like this, is genuinely that turning point to know, that things can get better and you can be interested/enjoy something. That's all you need, just one spark of enjoyment and you can get better. This came at such a perfect time, thank you.
I hope things have picked up for you since you wrote this a month ago, having been in the same position I relate exactly to what you’ve wrote. If you haven’t come across the episode yet, look for the Mo Gawdat episodes and his happiness equation, completely changed my mindset
@@mc2554 Thanks man. Things are picking up, making some healthy changes and they seem to be doing something. Learning to put less pressure on myself has been the hardest thing and trying to handle the overwhelm of life is very complicated, but I’m getting there. Getting out in nature does wonders. I hope you’re doing okay too. I’ll certainly watch that episode, thanks for the recommendation.
the intense resonance i've felt in this episode is intensely fulfilling. Emotionally, mentally and spiritually. This pod has helped to humanise the pathway of an entrepreneur and actually sure's up my belief in my potential to create a scalable business. From the hospitalisation, the grief, the plant medicines to the similar character traits, motivations and world views ... QUALITY!
In relation to around 37:30 about cutting off things/people that you're no longer aligned with is something I've massively improved on this year (lockdown especially). Literally turned my life around and despite current events, I've been able to turn everything into a positive. Going from 23 stone to about 17 this year. Friendship groups, relationships, learning and meditating and going to start Muay Thai. Sometimes we all just get caught up with the "hustle" of everything and forget to find time to actually focus and grow ourselves as people rather than just our career or chasing a new car or new shoes.
Just finished the episode. And wow, made me realise a lot and learn some things about myself and what I'm currently doing. It's so so easy to get caught up in work, especially when still working from home but finding that time and actually setting yourself deadlines and setting time away to do things you enjoy can really develop you as a person. When I first got into marketing and social media I was very quickly sucked in by the whole hustle porn facade and even found myself preaching it to some people. It glorifies working late hours, not taking time for yourself and not spending any money that you've earned. I get that this isn't they want to promote, but it comes across that way. Everyone is different. If you've got a new job and you feel happy... Celebrate, buy a new car if you want to and can afford it. Buy the new trainers that you want. There's nothing wrong with that at all, just don't go too far the other way and get sucked into buying things to impress people that you don't even like. Everything in moderation.

I have just finished listening to this podcast as I am starting my own business but I have struggled to nail down exactly what this/what it should look beyond "consulting". I realised my problem is, that I have two businesses that I am almost trying to merge into one. When Dan said when he and his business partner went to see a business psychologist to understand the problems in his old company, then went on to talk about Heights now being a value-based company I stopped what I was doing immediately, I knew I had found my business. I am a Business Psychologist my dissertation, passionate and drive are all-around values. Values are the smallest part of a culture, they are what drives our behaviour and what makes us feel uncomfortable when we act in a way that breaches our values. So from this Podcast I have realised I could help starts up understanding what their values are and how they can use them to drive their businesses in the direction they want, and not get lost in the noise and in amongst the shiny new "trends" that divert our attention. The second is coaching individuals on how to use your values to help you understand imposture syndrome, burnout and what you truly want to life and a career. Would love to hear your thoughts. Megan

Incredible. Thank you both for being so honest. I’ve listened to this every day this week and my mind is still blown. I guarantee this conversation will change lives and it’s FREE. I’ll be looking into HEIGHTS for sure. Thanks Dan & Steve x
One of my favourite episodes so far! Maybe it should be posted again because it is much lower in views than other DOAC videos!! Thank you Dan and Steven for such honesty. I feel like I can really relate to a lot that was covered in this conversation - thanks for making me feel connected.
I see what you mean-thinking about your purpose and focusing on growth can be really powerful. But I also think not everyone is always in that place. Sometimes, life isn’t about reflecting to grow-it’s just about being present, enjoying the moment, and letting things be as they are. For me, reflecting on purpose doesn’t always have to lead to change or growth. Sometimes, it just helps you appreciate where you are and find peace in the now. Growth is important, but so is just living and being content with the present.
Absolutely epic interview... can’t thank you guys enough. I could have listened to you both talk for hours! You touched on so many subjects with such honesty... made me feel human again! Thank you
This was fenomenal to listen to even 3 years after it's release. I loved how the guest described relationship building, espetially because it really was the way I approached my last one (although it didn't survive, it was really the best so far). This podcast has helped me grow and keep my curiosity satisfied regularly, and helped me in all other different ways so much so far... Thank you all for creating such a space! ❤ For the camera guy: you killed it in the best way possible - I loved the shots made from the cieling lamp, and the shot of the diary at the end, you kind of ditched that at some point (as the years passed) but it is such a great visual effect, it really touches the soul on some deeper level! 👏👏👏
Brilliant episode, it took me a whole week to listen to this start to finish and digest the information. About 12 times I paused and went to research something discussed! I even changed my omega 3 vitamins half way with the incredible insight about the AHA & DHA levels required. Love how you have finished decorating the studio and that you now have the embossed diary. That’s the finishing touch that makes this new format perfect. Thank you as always, much appreciated
12:05 About three years... Is that just about the right amount of time to self reflect - if you spend every waking moment of it - to find an inkling of purpose again? To me, it feels like it has been 3 years, and blink, and I'm here. So much more attuned to life than I ever was before.

So much to take away from this episode. Love the point on learning and teaching. When there’s so much to learn, how not to make that an overwhelming experience to absorb. The perfectionist in me wants to retain it all but even just taking away a few points and working on those would result in growth. Treating other parts of life to the same depth of planning as a business is definitely the one I will be focussing on. I also found it so interesting to understand burnout from the view of under-fulfilment rather than physical/mental exhaustion. Thanks for speaking so honestly on this.

Very thought provoking. Definitely could relate to many points as well as feeling draped by some. Hello Steven! It's fascinating to listen to this conversation bc many things that were discussed resonate with me a lot and I really felt it deeply. When I hear about familiar experience from other people, especially from someone who have not only overcome difficulties but who have been able to use their experience to become a person who they enjoy to be and make something meaningful for others (share their wisdom in a valuable way); moreover, stay kind-hearted, open and loving, who're conscious of their... pain/fears/triggers (if these are the rights words) and they don't project it on people around them, so such people are absolutelly amazing and their stories need to be heard. And special thank you for being so honest and sincere!)

Okay here I go I’m listening to my next interview I just wanted to say at the very start of watching this Steve , you said in one of your podcasts that you liked your space ,there’s a reason why you have to have your space and that’s for all of us to be able to come in ,when we’re invited You have open the door my mum used to say to me when one door closes another one opens, all you have to do is go through, yours is the first door that I’ve seen that’s open and I’ve wanted to go in, I’m so pleased that I did I’ve learnt so much about myself I actually went through bulimia, and I understand his shame so many people that you’ve interviewed and I have the strong sense that when people say that we’re all connected ,I understand it now just by watching you and some of the people that you interviewed I understand it thank you.
Okay so, I really like this podcast and felt I could relate to both of their life views through this on relationships, health, work ethic except the fear of death subject. I understand their viewpoints but I am yet to hear from someone in media discussing death but not from the influence of religion or spirituality but from the scientific minds who find it difficult to see something beyond death (and not in the smug physicist way). The fear of death comes from a place of understanding the broadness of space and time and realising how special it is that you exist in this point in time and anyone else who is alive at the same point in time shares a special place in time together. This isn’t illogical, it’s also an emotionally intelligent and an awareness of nature view point. Feeling an overwhelming respect for your short existence drives you to make your life valuable and not waste. It drives learning, health and love. Yes it’s related to the fear of not living your life but it isn’t illogical or irrational. Yours sincerely, A triggered listener 😂🙈✌️
Interesting listening to someone who’s in touch with a new way of thinking, talking about Marcus Aurelius. My grandfather a mathematician recommended stoic philosophers as something I should be reading but I disregarded it as out dated. But what I think I can take from this is that perspective is subjective but understanding more perspectives is Knowledge and knowledge is power. Great podcast again

Such an eyeopening and insightful episode worth to listen many times this week. I started realizing a lot of those elements since I made redundant and how important is personal focus and growth. Whilst searching for these answers I have understood how important is a break as I "hustle" these 3 months to find a new role. As a person with a lack of confidence which comes from imposter syndrome that I encounter it daily, in job interviews and even to as you said the relationships, what tips would you recommend to cope with it? Thanks for sharing these stories! P.s: I hope one day to be able to meet you in person or even work with you to learn more about your philosophy.

25:00 of the video was really important for me to hear, my biggest insecurity (putting myself out there online) could be my biggest opportunity. So much amazing content in this interview. Thanks so much guys. I think it is so hard to find value adding content from success people, who provide practical advice so this is gold! I would like to hear your thoughts about how to get started. I feel that most people (myself included) over analyse all the possible things that could go wrong with a business idea before even starting which means ideas never get off the ground. So any content around getting started or 'analysis paralysis' would be great. Thanks again!
Burnout is worse when you’re stuck doing what you don’t like. The solution? Know your purpose. Reflect on what’s important: Now: What brings you meaning today? Near future: What goals matter in the next 6 months? Far future: What legacy do you want in 5, or even 200 years? With purpose, you can navigate burnout-and make space for what you truly love.

The second is coaching individuals on how to use your values to help you understand imposture syndrome, burnout and what you truly want to life and a career.
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Bringing it all to the table. Thank you for being so courageous in sharing so openly, it’s helping me build courage to grow and share more with others myself.
love this response, delighted to have given that perspective. When we share our truth from within, it can really take quite a load off too to be honest! If you want more of the same kind of inspo, as I'm working on my personal brand and all - please do follow me and drop me a DM on twitter & insta and I'll respond! @danmurrayserter
When I think about “consuming content that enriches me,” your podcasts are, in my opinion, unrivalled in terms of the depth of value they provide. Truly creates positive action. Thanks again.

They are brilliant arent they Rohan - I've been listening myself for years too! Feel free to connect with me @danmurrayserter on insta/twitter and hopefully I can add some inspo to your days too! (not quite as deep as Steve though, just to warn you!)
Just came across this interview. One of my favorites thus far. I resonate with many of his key points.
Dan Murray - super articulate hence very engaging, we look forward to learning more of how you create your own brand!
Isn't he great!
Thank you Anand - I appreciate that comment. Feel free to connect with me @danmurrayserter on insta/twitter and hopefully I'll stay articulate and think up some new soundbites!

Ikigai … had never heard of this until this conversation… just bought the audio book… thanks!
definitely one of the best discussions from this series.
I didn’t appreciate how powerful this conversation was going to be! Thank you for sharing this Steven and to Dan for his story 🙏 putting yourself out there online resonated a lot with me. I feel like I’ve been in that state of flux for the last 2/3 years not quite being able to get started, or not keeping the consistency.
You are a great interviewer... the range of guess and your questions etc ... very much appreciate the range
An incredible amount of thought provoking content here. Love this guy.
I honestly didn’t want this to end! So, so many gems from both of you, thank you for this!

I open RUclips and the first video on my feed is one of your episodes, Steven, from a while back as well and I’m so excited to find so many that I 100% enjoy,…I absolutely LOVED this conversation! What a treat, really, thank you so much.
thank you so much Dan for being so honest and helping us feel that we can have our mental problems and still be a successful entrepreneur …that spoke to me a lot. I am very keen in following your work now that i know you 😊. Steven your honesty and spontaneity is funny and the spark of your podcast. I love it ❤😊
I will visit this podcast again and again.
Another amazing episode! I appreciate that you ask and speak about not only business-related questions but even personal ones. This makes your podcasts so unique and special. Looking forward to next Monday, can't wait!

Not a question just wanted to say I’m so so glad you’re back doing these weekly videos.
Glad you like them, Farhana x
Hi Farhana, hope you enjoyed the interview. Feel free to connect with me @danmurrayserter on insta/twitter but warning, my videos are no where near as good as Steve's. I say something interesting maybe once a week though so its worth it for that! 😜

Very thought provoking. Definitely could relate to many points as well as feeling draped by some. I must say as a Christian and someone who wholeheartedly believes in God, it was interesting even to myself to have listened to especially the bits about religion and not be affected by it. I don't think anything could shift my belief in God, however both your beliefs and perspectives were understood and respected.
Invaluable knowledge gained during this 2-hour podcast. As a final year student who aspires to become an entrepreneur getting an insight on so many things is amazing. Looking forward to your next episode and apply all that I've learnt soon!

So much to take away from this episode. Thanks for the honesty, knowledge, and recommendations.
Finally had the time to stop and watch this, think this is going to be part of a new routine carving out time to stop, watch and think.
So many topics covered and an incredible number of thought provoking points, so grateful for you taking the time to create and put out such high quality, raw conversations 🙏

Loved listening to this podcast. It's refreshing to see evolution in topics that have been problems for so long.
Such a powerful talk, immense! And Steven Bartlett is such a good listener.
9 Minutes in, and already such a great podcast. Thankyou Dan, Steven and the Team

I listened to it on Spotify and felt the need to come over and comment how great this was. Love your honesty
Thank you for this! ❤
What a great interview, just what I needed. It’s helped me reflect and grow so much from a negative place. More people need to see this. Thank You 🙏
The honesty of you both is inspiring. Thank you 🙏
Loved his comment on the rain, I often walk in the rain not by choice but recently instead of loathing it I’ve learnt to love it and enjoy the rain falling onto my face & body. Just, as he said, enjoying the elements which is quite freeing, I allow myself to be thoughtless for a moment which can be liberating 🤍☁️
Thats the difference mental health is your well-being, mental illness is the disorder/condition you have which can be depression. So a person can be healthy but have poor mental health. 💚💚💜💚💚
Shame and guilt is painful reason we are silent 😪
Look forward to these weekly.
Thank you so much!

*I've got so many benefits outta this video, I can say this Video feels unfiltered as I am going to watch it again as errbody can 💯°°*
i am so glad that you are back on youtube. I have definitely missed you but catch you on insta... but this is definitely better.. Thanks. Tony t.
Great great podcast. Thank you Steven. Love your work.
Your podcast is brilliant Steven, this episode especially has really been helping me dig myself out of a hole of repetitive (mis)behaviours
Yours sincerely,
A triggered listener 😂🙈✌️
Interesting listening to someone who’s in touch with a new way of thinking, talking about Marcus Aurelius. My grandfather a mathematician recommended stoic philosophers as something I should be reading but I disregarded it as out dated. But what I think I can take from this is that perspective is subjective but understanding more perspectives is Knowledge and knowledge is power. Great podcast again
Hey Harry, thanks for the comments, we'll let Dan know! Fantastic podcast Some really interesting discussions around relationships truthful and honest as this is what we all should be. Does leave you feeling that the world is a beautiful place regardless. The dinner party needs to be organised!! Thank you Steven and Dan

I was lucky enough to be a Virgin Startup Ambassador when I launched my first company and I loved public speaking and helping people when I could. But since that chapter in my life, I've found it almost impossible to build my personal brand online and define how I want to put myself out there. Great insights Steven and Dan!
Got so much out of this conversation so relatable thankyou!

Okay. I’ve had severe anxiety for years, I’m gonna try this. Thank you
So much amazing content in this interview.
Reflect on what’s important:
Now: What brings you meaning today?
Near future: What goals matter in the next 6 months?
Far future: What legacy do you want in 5, or even 200 years?
With purpose, you can navigate burnout-and make space for what you truly love.
Hi Steven, late to the diary of a ceo. I “discovered you “ by accident. By this I mean I came across your conversation with Gary Neville, which was super informative and different . I am a “red” a mancunian who lives in Cheshire 😊. I enjoyed that YT immensely, loved the banter, business conversations and course reminiscing of his career. It was different in a good way . I have today been captivated by the conversation with Daniel, engaging and inspiring, tad lack of judgment in that he supports the “ Gunners” but otherwise I genuine person wanting to contribute positively to our world. I look forward to “ playing catch up” and hopefully enjoying 3 points today away at Elland Road k/r John D
Can we have Dan back on for a new episode? Really enjoy his perspective on relationships and personal growth at 1:33:00 especially.
Would love to hear more about his experience with ayahuasca too!
I'd say burnout comes from being fear driven and not driven by personal values and passion and being heart centred.
