My Nikon Z6iii Setup Guide Is done! It covers way more than the video series and I've actually changed a few things since shooting the video, so lots of new stuff too. Check it out at the link below: bcgwebstore.com/product/the-ultimate-nikon-z6iii-setup-shooting-guide-for-wildlife-photography/
I am a 35mm/medium format film and street photographer the last 20+ years. I’m getting into wildlife since last year. I don’t have my Z6iii yet. I am using this for my Zf (parts of the video that apply to that particular body) which I’m using until plan the end of the year when there is budget leftover. I also purchased a couple of the courses you have. Goal is to ramp up on education first. Your content is gold! Thank you Steve! 😊
@@lsh-zi2lc I did end up getting the Z6iii and the customizable buttons alone is a game changer! I could have gotten by with the Zf had it not been for the demand of my event photography. It worked just fine for wildlife.
@@juliette-mansour Too funny! I ordered the 6iii, it will be here Monday.🙂 What courses did you buy from Steve and did you get the Setup Guide? I just read your review on his website.....so you bought the guide😊
Steve, can I adjust the brightness of the control panel brightness on top of the Z6iii? I think I would like it brighter, but do not see a setting for it in the menu. Thank toy for the great set up guide videos. Looking forward to your book in September.
Hi Steve, Once again, thank you for the detailed setup. I'm having an issue with the camera sounds functions, in that no changes seem to take effect. I can turn on silent mode, however. Wondering if I've set something elsewhere in the menu that has caused this, or if you've experienced this issue?
Great 4-part setup for the Z6III - thank you!! I'm wondering if there's any downside to using Manual mode as my fast-action wildlife setup, and copying that to U3 and changing just the shutter/aperture/ISO for still or slow-moving birds/animals (since U3 closer to M on the dial). Do you foresee any issues with that? I'm trying to find a workaround for not having the Recall Shooting Settings option, as well as keeping my current settings when I need to quickly change my battery or just turn off the camera to conserve power. I assume that manual settings are only saved in the camera and not in User Settings, but U3 would be basically the same so I wouldn't lose anything. BTW, that touch function for moving the focus points on the LCD is awesome! I hope they add those to the Z8 & Z9!
Dear Steve THANKS A LOT I am done station up my camera! One more question is there is way to make more visible thicker `the Auto Focus Box Area in The View Finder View? Please and thanks a lot! Definitely buying The Book! I was about to buy the Z8 and saw your Z63 preview and got it. I bought your Z8-Z9 book! Cheers!
Just received my Z6iii today! Already watched all 4 of these videos but am going to watch them again, this time with the camera in hand to follow along. I do have a question though. Can I use the older EN-EL15 batteries that I already have? The specs are a little different than the one that came with the Z6iii. Thanks, and thanks for the always informative videos!!
Thank you sooooo much! I am happy I found you just on time :-) Received my 6iii yesterday and coming from the 6i there are a lot of changes ... so I will work on through your 4 videos today and am looking forward going out - yipeeeee, thanks
Hi, Steve. I’ve watched the first two of the setup guide videos and can hardly wait for my Z6iii to arrive. I think delivery is going to be slower in Canada than some other places. Will the book to come in September be paper or an ebook? Thanks for all the great information so far. You and Jan have somewhat different approaches to some things but you are both enormously generous in sharing your knowledge.
Hi Steve Thanks a lot today about 11:30 AM I got my Z6iii from Adorama! Got a silly question why the te body of amera looks smaller than the one in your video? You posted this at thee right time YOU THE BEST NIKON GURU!

Hello Steve thanks for this video. Just got my z63 and found the control panel brightness too low compared to my z62. I checked the manual but couldnt find anything there on how to increase the brightness. Its easy enough for z62 under Setup Menu. Hope you could help. Thank you!
Thanks for the reply Steve! Watched the entire video again, you did talk about the viewfinder and monitor brightness but nothing about the control panel brightness though, or I might have just missed it.
Hi Steve, Thank you so much for your video's! I enjoyed it here in The Netherlands! I still have a few questions. Sorry for my English :-). * In (D3) the pre-release capture option section you say it's only for JPEG. I only shoot RAW and want to use this option. Are you sure this about this? I cannot find nowhere in the manual that this option is not compatible with RAW. * The Firmware of my camera Z6 III is V1.00. It's the same as your version. In your version are more options and different options as in the Dutch Version I use. Do you have an pre-release camera? For example: I have no a14 Manual focus ring in AF mode option in the menu, a13 is the end. How is this possible with the same version? * why is the support of HEIC/HEIF files so poor on Windows 11? I know it's a new feature, but it's allready known in Windows for years (also Video-codecs). I use Irfanview as free viewer. I had to install an extra (free) codec in Windows 11 in a special way (wic_heic-v1.0.3.zip). With NXView (free version) there were no problems. I now can view HIF files in LR, Irfanview, NXView en Photos of Windows 11. Is there a big difference between RAW and HEIC files? * Will there be an Dutch translation in september when your book is in the shop? Keep on the good work! Ad DeCort, The Netherlands
A great upgrade over older Z6II but disappointing launch price Steve ,on this new Z6III $2500 USD. If you are buying in Canada, Europe, Asia pacific the price is prohibitively expensive . Better value right now is the Z8 thats discounted much better camera. Hopefully Z6III get to a more realistic price point in the months ahead. I was excited like every body and was looking forward to purchase, but no way not paying what NIKON are asking right now for it , and I don't need to save up for it either .
Just wait for 6 months when they start having markdowns like every other camera brand. The Canon R6ii saw discounts to $2300 6 months after release, and now with Nikon’s Z6iii they’re discounting the Canon to $2000. The same will happen to this body if you’re patient and don’t have to have it immediately
I used User Settings on my D7x00 cameras but not on my Z6. How about Z6iii? Can you dial in U1, change the setting from 1/3200 to 1/1600, turn off the camera. for a while and then turn it on again, without switching to any other User Setting and still have 1/1600, or has it gone back to the saved value of 1/3200?
I just watched all these videos....I am wondering if you will ever print your z6iii book? unfortunately, I will not be able to access the ebook while I'm on vacation (I literally just bought the z6iii and have just pulled it out of the box and I leave for Kenya in 8 days ). I am totally new to this type of camera and am so confused still.... If I had your book in written format I could read it while in africa or on plane. I need to set this up in the best way possible for the best chances of catching a shot of Giza (the melanastic leopard)..... if you have any suggestions please let me know! and if you will be making a hardcopy of the book---please let me know!
I don't do hard copies because of the constant updates Nikon issues. Any inventory of hard copies would be worthless after every update - plus, they would be really expensive. However, I'm not sure why you can't take the e-book. Once purchased, you can put it on any of your devices - computer, phone, tablet, and use it offline. No extra weight to it, searchable, and with you all the time if it's on your phone. :)
Z6iii doesn’t have recall shooting function. Can you map U1, U2, U3 to a single button ? Say U1 for perched birds, U2 for birds in flight? Also it looks like if you have change setting within U1, U2, U3, it goes back to original setting, it won’t change accordingly.
Hi. Do you know why when saving my User custom settings Photo mode in Aperture Priority in U1, and Manual mode in Video in U1, the Photo mode change back to manual. Is it impossible to save different shooting mode in photo and video mode?
I really hate that Nikon doesn't give the user the option for whether to update user settings/shooting banks dynamically or always come back the the settings saved originally. Like you can choose on other brands. I'm using a Z8 and I'd really like the settings saved in shooting banks to be "sticky." I keep my OM-1 dial on C1 and every time I start the camera I know w/o giving it any thought what settings I'm starting from, I can get to my desired exposure w/o ever looking at the camera. With the Z8 I had to force myself to set everything the way I want it every time I shut off the camera, because sometimes there is no time to check settings when you turn it on - you see something and want to immediately shoot, not think about settings. But I get that some people prefer it the other way around (like the Z8 does it currently) and that's why there should be an option for everyone to choose. (I also like that the OM-1 saves everything in a custom settings bank - from exposure, to drive mode, af mode/area, subject detection, even which card slot to save to (maybe you don't want to mix up your landscapes with your action shots))
Hi. When I'm doing fashion, I often need to switch from portrait to detail, like focusing on the lips or on a piece of jewelry worn on the face and detecting the eyes. In this case, I have a problem: I find it much too slow to go to the I menu. I couldn't find a setting that would let me disable face detection in 1 click. It's really a big flaw. Do you have a tip?
Not for the Z6iii. You can set Recall Shooting Functions to do that in the Z8/9, but there's nothing similar in the Z6iii. FWIW, I've been telling Nikon forever we need a way to quickly turn off Subject Detection in these cameras. One other thought is to use a User Settings Bank for it - U1 and U2 set the same but U1 has face detection on and U2 has it off. However, it's not as easy as a button push.
