    the z8 is faster on the crounch/stand test. but z6iii is doing what it's suppose to. z8 is gonna be a bit better in video AF in day time it seems.

    @visionz_n_media 7 дней назад +6

    Nice comparison. I wish you would have tested the af while the subject was moving away from the camera. That’s a scenario that I’ve noticed that even the Z8 can fail in often. I would’ve also like to see you shoot in higher burst rates. The eye af and af in general has improved greatly for Nikon especially from a photographers perspective, but I have come across a few scenarios that Nikon doesn’t handle well. I had a couple late evening prom shoots and the Z8 paired the 85mm 1.2 struggled to focus at times, so it would be nice to see if the lower megapixel count of the Z6III would give a slightly improved low light performance.

      @PBStudiosMediaGroup 7 дней назад +1

      Just my opinion. But f/1.2 glass causes cameras to struggle a bit more. I think it may have something to with the shallower depth of field. IMHO

    • @thomastuorto9929
      @thomastuorto9929 6 дней назад

      With Nikon, you need to rotate the zoom ring counter clockwise to a closer focus & then press the AF button. Also it needs a decent amount of subject contrast to see for it to pull focus. Once you know this, it easy to grab focus. Maybe a little more work than other brands but not sure because I haven't used them. But seems so by watching vids on you tube. Nikon hits the mark on price point with the Z8, Z6III & their lens line up. Plus since their latest firmware updates, they are really, really close to the other big two & way ahead of way more expensive brand cameras when talking AF performance. Thanks for the vid Ryan.

    Great video. Definitely going to pick one up for Christmas. Will likely keep my Z6 II for a backup. Was thinking about saving for a Z8 but the Z6 III is a beast and meets all my needs. Just got to get use to the flippy screen and wanting a higher MP sensor.

      Z7II subject acquisition/ tracking was definitely not as good in lower light as Z6II.
      Regardless, the Z6III is a whole different level by far. And supposedly even a little better in the lowest light than even the Z8/9 (and my Z8 can literally lock on eyes in the dark lol)

    Cant really tell how good or bad it was from this test. But as a z6,z6ii, and z8 owner. I appreciate you doing the test. What I mean is that I am sure the z6ii could have passed that test. To me both the z8 and z6iii shine in more complex and fast moving situations. like sports. or shooting an event where you need to lock on to one person. Or quickly more from subject to subject. I do look forward to more tests and your views on the Z6iii.

    • @RyanTroy
      @RyanTroy  7 дней назад +3

      I am going to do a low light test today. thing is. coming from the z7ii being close and even in the studio although it appears to be on the eye i had to take a lot of shots just because it would be soft on the eye although it showed it being on the eye in the evf. I never took 100 photos and every last one hit the eye even if they were right in front of my face.

    I have had the Z6 II since it came out (end of 2020) and I only have problems when people are running or making abrupt movements. When walking I get 9/10 in focus but for example not as many when dancing, etc. The other factor that affects focus speed and accuracy is low light, say 12,800 ISO or so.
    I think it would be better to test the Z6 III and Z8 in challenging scenarios like that: low light + fast moving objects otherwise you will never know the difference between them bc you are not pushing them to the limits.
    All the best.

  • @HR-wd6cw

    For people I think it's on par. Where I think the Z8/Z9 have the upper edge is with wildlife and sports, with fast action. Even the Zf was able to handle eye AF quite well (especially given it uses the older regular BSI sensor which is a bit slower). Although it did hit focus, I think in some of the tests I've seen regarding comparisons the Z6 III can be a bit jumpy, compared to the Z8/Z9 which seemd a bit more smooth in terms of live-view display but overall I think both will perform slightly better (I think the partially stacked sensor is a good and coupled with the Expeed 7, has made a huge difference over previous generations, but the fully stacked sensor will always have the upper hand in demanding tasks like sports/wildlife).
    That being said, I think the Z6 III is delivering the value they are asking for it ($2500 USD) and it is doing what Nikon had expected it to do. It's not a Z8, but it's also not priced like a Z8 either, so there will be some differences but for the majority of shooting, it will keep up. It's the demanding tasks I think is where we will see the biggest difference. Keeper rate for birds and wildlife seem to be a tad bit better and part of that may also be the burst rate that the Z8 can achieve, but again, that comes with a price. I'd say for maybe 3/4 of people out there or anyone who doesn't shoot wildlife or sports, the Z6 III will be plenty.

    Thanks for this comparison - always nice to see Nikon making progress on the lower end of their line. The one thing that struck me was the blackout on the Z6 iii. Honestly had forgotten about that aspect! I do wonder if it will impact tracking on faster subjects. Perhaps not, since on the Z 8 and Z 9 it is really just an illusion, with the duplicated frames. But I do wonder.

    I am an event photographer and 24 megapixel is all I need plus it has better noise control.

      Not an expert. My theory, If the lens is older then 2021 there is a chance that the lens is not prepped for the AF from Z9/8/zf/6III. Seen a German review with z lense older than 21, that showed AF problems on newer z bodies in video.
