My Nikon Z6iii Setup Guide Is done! It covers way more than the video series and I've actually changed a few things since shooting the video, so lots of new stuff too. Check it out at the link below: bcgwebstore.com/product/the-ultimate-nikon-z6iii-setup-shooting-guide-for-wildlife-photography/
Thanks much for your advice and clear explanations. Question: When you go into the menu to set up how many shots and Fstops to use for bracketing shots, can that be saved to one of the custom user buttons?
I have a z5 and use af-s pinpoint all the time for wildlife because the focus is more accurate and I can get the pinpoint box right on the eye. If use af-c a lot too depending on the situation but for still or slow moving subjects the af-c likes to bounce around a lot. My z6III arrives today but I'm debating returning it for the Z8.
The Z6iii is a fantastic little camera for the price and for what it is, but it's no Z8. Just this morning I was out with the Z6iii and ran into a couple of situations where the Z8 was a better fit. The first was a distant owl that I will have to crop a bit to make work and the second was some fast-paced action with swallows - I could have used both a little more resolution and a little better AF on those.
About the grid: it's actually possible to assign a button to show/hide the grid. For ex, I've assigned that to the little joystick when pressed. It avoids allocating a whole display just to show it, in case you don't want to see it all the time.
Yup - I mention that option in the book. However, the reason I personally don't is because I have to allocate a button that could be doing something else. BUT - I like the grid on most of the time, so it's not a big deal.
You can assign that to any button through the f2 custom settings menu. Look near the bottom, "Framing Grid", and voila, you can now switch it on/off in any display screen.
Thanks, really appreciate your work. Correct, had the 24-200 on for set up. As a Z9 owner, happy that AF and ergonomics of Mk 3 is similar to Z9 and much more functional than Mk1.
Thank you for a detailed guide. I have noticed a weird AF behaviour in the AF-C mode with subject (bird) recognition when I use a large zone and shoot in series. Only the first frame is in focus, but all the rest are blurry. It seems that the camera recognizes the eye and focuses on it in the first frame, but fails to recognize the eye in the other frames. Instead, it focuses on the edges of the zone, which makes the object out of focus. I was wondering if it's just my settings or it's a glitch.
Steve, I just picked up my Z6-3 and I noticed that in Manual Mode the shutter speed is in single digits not like in normal increments 30s, 40s, etc. Have you figured out how to change? Thanks
Check the Photo Shooting Menu high speed flicker reduction option and see if that's on - it's give you singe increment shutter speeds if it is. Turn it off (although, it should be off by default)
@@backcountrygallery Steve You are THE BEST! Thats it!. When I was setting the camera i put the check mark , I thought that had to do something to the viewfinder!. Thanks a lot
Steve , any reason why my Z6iii and I know of at least one other that do not have the a14 option present in the custom focus menu? Is your Z6iii a pre production model ?
As mentioned in the video (I think I mentioned it anyway LOL), you only see that option if you have a compatible lens. Usually that translates to a Z series lens (It must be a Z series, no adapted glass) with a dedicated focus ring (something like the 180-600 for instance that just has a control ring won't cut it). Also, some lenses may require a firmware update to see it, but again, if there's no dedicated focus ring, no luck.
@@backcountrygallery Thank you for the quick reply. Strange because I had the Nikkor Z 24-70 f4 on the camera when watching your video and it has a focus ring.
Make sure you have ti selected under D19/20 and that you are on the correct display. Also, make sure Apply Settings To Live View is set to Show Effects Of Settings and not Ease of Viewing
I just noticed that if d11 is on, then no matter what, it will not show the histogram, it does show light meter though. Can someone please explain what the reason could be that it does not show histogram when d11 (starlight view (photo Lv) is ON? 🤔
I have the z6 and the z6 III now on the z6 III I can't figure out how to snap a photo while shooting video . On my z6 you just hit the shutter button .The z6 III it does nothing .

Thank you, Steve, I appreciate the hard work you‘re putting into these videos.
Thanks Steve, great set of videos you make things seem so simple can’t wait till the next one cheers
You told me to buy the z6iii, and I did yesterday. I will get your guide when I get back home.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this video.
Thank you, Steve! You, sir, are a master.
Super helpful videos! Thanks Steve!
So great - thanks again :-)
“I’m a simple guy”. Wrong. You are the expert.

Nice video. How to show the histogram in vidomode?
Jesus Christ THANK YOU. I've been trying to figure out how to actually show my grid for hours. Why Nikon made it so confusing I have no idea.

Thanks- great work. FWIW my camera does not have 14a.
You're most welcome - 14a isn't there if you don't have a z mount lens with a focus ring attached.

Looking at a photo of it (mine's at home) the 24-70 F/4 has a control ring it uses for focus, but I don't see a dedicated focus ring.

I like the chapter "Focus Peing" 😉 - Maybe you should correct the name of the chapter
Seems RUclips photographers take a lot of pictures of birds. Is someone buying all these bird pics?
