Hi everyone, I have a full box of Granny Squares. Now, these are not just any squares! These granny squares were made by my grandma in the year 2009 just before she passed away. I have them here with me for a long time but never had the courage to join the granny squares together. So today, this is exactly what I am going to do, so please follow me in joining granny squares to finish my late grandma's blanket.

I think that square pattern is my most favorite of all squares I know how to do. How precious to have that from Grandma. I have my grandmother's finished afghans that she made everytime she came from NY to visit. She loved the ripple pattern which I can't do very well. Happy Birthday Anja.

Ohh Anja, you were so sure about needing tissues when watching your Grandma’s granny video. I have to ran and closed my bedroom door for crying with you. Tears ran down my eyes, and memories of my grandma’s flooded my head and began to catch on me but it was lovely. The pictures you used on the video with your Grandma and you reminded me of my childhood. You are an amazing individual...be blessed!

What a wonderful heirloom, I’m sure your lovely grandmother would be so proud of you. To preserve the memory I think I would save a sample square and arrange it in a simple white box frame together with the emotional unfinished piece, adding a pretty crochet hook, and put it on display in the studio. X

My Dear Anja, everytime I see you cry, I cry as well. The video that first brought me to you was the one where you displayed all (that you had access to) of your Grandma's blankets. I have enjoyed watching you since. I find your videos to be relaxing and inspiring. I want you to know that you and your creations, especially the Ode to Anna Blanket, have helped me get through Covid. I know that I told you on Sunday, but I just keep making them in different colors and giving them to family members. What I have of my grandma are her crochet hooks and some old pattern books.
When I was young she tried to teach me to crochet. But I wasn’t interested.
My grandma passed a long time ago,and I miss her very much.
One day I seen a pattern for a little doll. I got all the material I needed to crochet this little doll.
After I gathered all the supplies I put my hands up and said OK grandma I’m ready to do it please help me.
And I crocheted that little doll. I gave them a little doll to my niece it was for the Fourth of July, she had on a little bed white and blue dress.
And that began my crochet journey
Isn't that just wonderful. It is just as if she was there, holding your hand one more time to teach you. ❤❤❤

Hello Anja! Well, as you opened the box, my heart swelled with joy. When you ever lifted the partially made square, my eyes just welled up and overflowed. I just couldn’t stop the tears. It brought back so many memories of trinkets and so forth I have found of my mom’s who passed 29 years ago. The beauty of your grandma’s work is unmistakable. Your own amazing skill just brought her such honor. Simply Stunning. A duet project with someone you loved so dearly. You and your family will cherish it forever. What a labor of love!

I actually started crying when you pulled out the little strip she had been working on. I saw the loop where she would have started the next stitch and thought "She left it so you could finish it."

Beautiful heirloom to have. I have just done the same with squares my mum had left which my dad had cut-out( she was a great seamstress and knitter and crocheted....) dad died 11years ago and mum died four years ago and one of the positives to come out of Covid lockdown was I finally could face taking these squares out and putting together four small blankets for my brothers and sisters. Some of the material had been used to make clothes for my children and my nieces so there were a lot of memories as I stitched these together and yes Anja like you a lot of tears. But I love what you have done not just this but all you have done to keep us upbeat during these not so pleasant times. And I know this blanket you have just completed will mean so much more to you now. 💕💕❤️❤️❤️

How sweet that you are touching the same part of your late Grandmother's blanket where she left off. You crochet like her! What a pretty woman she was! She probably folded the squares so they would fit into the storage box. I like her choice of colors. She must have wanted to use up stash/sale yarn, and chose those different colors. I love how your grandmother's blanket turned out! She made it with love!

I was crying for you and myself, happiness and sadness. My grandmother taught me to knit and crochet. I still cherish the needles I have from her.

Just loved watching you react to finding the unfinished square, Anja. I can only imagine what was going through your mind. I have an all wool granny square blanket, about twin size, that my great grandmother made. She died at age 101 years, when I was in my early 20s, and I'm nearly 75 now. She also knit baby sweaters for my first 2 children. These things we will cherish, forever, right? I love the blanket all sewn together! Thank you for the pleasure of watching!

What a wonderful surprise to have all the squares she worked on and then to find she was still working on it and you can too! And I love all the pictures . My mom passed away and she hated pictures, I had to ask all my friends and family and I only ended up with less than a handful and I cherish them. Such an emotional find and you must keep that small crochet snippet as it is, for posterity. Beautifully made squares, I love the design on each and purple and green go so well together. Lot of work sewing in the ends. How fortunate that there are holes to make it easier when assembling the squares. Lovely to see the finished results. Tfs, your grandmother would praise you for completing this.

Wow. So emotional watching this. This has given me the inspiration to complete a Cat stitching that my father started but didn’t get chance to finish.
I have vowed to finish it and get it framed this year.

You are so very welcome dear lady. I miss my grandmother so much, she was the sweetest lady and watching your video of your unboxing of her squares really touched my heart. My grandma Jonnie Bell crocheted as well and I am so happy she made me an Afghan before she passed. She was taken suddenly as a passenger in an automobile accident years ago. It still breaks my heart just as it did the day we lost her. She had made an ivory blanket in a popcorn stitch that was so beautiful, nobody knows what ever became of it. I think I may have to give it a try myself, but I can tell it’s gonna take some time and lots of yarn. Wish me luck as I have only recently taken up crochet after thirty plus years of my first try at it. So, it’s my understanding that crochet was taught in your schools? Is that still true today?

Anya, did you have this experience? When my mom died, we packed away everythiing of hers because I couldn't bear to go through it. For years when we would finally open a certain box or another, say looking for a certain bloouse or jacket she wore, her "scent" would envelope us when we first opened the box. It was a mix of her perfume, her cigarettes (of course) and whatever other sweet scent that brought her back so close to use. When you opened your grandmother's box of precious items, my eyes filled with tears and I wondered if yours did too. I love the way you honor your grandmother (mine both died before I was born) and it brings my own feelings for my long-gone mother to the forefront. And, of course, your grandmother's crochet work was beautiful and creative. Love to you!

Oh my goodness Anja I didn’t want this video to end. I too shed a tear when you found the unfinished square and the way you held it was like holding your grandmother’s hand again. The blanket is beautiful and I look forward to seeing the Lookbook of it. What a beautiful tribute. I had started an afghan for my mom but didn't finish it before she passed. Eventually I took it apart and made 3 lapghans for the Memory Care facility that she lived in before her passing. I continued making lapghans for the residents for the next year in her memory. It was good for my healing.
