Here's Really How Long Ice Stays Frozen in the $100 LIFETIME 55 Quart Cooler!!! Spring 2020 Review

  • Hey Y'all! In this review we'll be testing out the 55 Quart Lifetime Cooler that I purchased at Walmart. This cooler was priced just a little under $100 bucks if I'm not mistaken is was $92 plus tax. As I mention in the video the price was really good for a cooler this size compared to others like Ozark, RTIC or YETI. The fit & finish of the Lifetime Cooler seems good and the size was just right for the back of my Toyota 4Runner. A smaller cooler would be nice so I could fit some things in the cargo area, but having a 55 quart cooler is perfect for drinks, food and ice for the entire family. Maybe we'll purchase a smaller cooler for a different review later down the road.
For this review I just used a 20 Pound Bag of Ice. On my next review I'll be using 40 pounds of Ice to see how well that does over 7 days time or longer?!

Freeze a gallon jug of water in the freezer. Block ice lasts a long time and you can drink it too when it melts

    • @yodaguy6956

It also keeps your meltwater contained so it isn't cross contaminating everything in the cooler. Block is totally the way to go for longevity, cube ice is best for same day cold drinks

Commercial roofing for a living. The lifetime is built tough, holds ice, and is heavy when full of ice. The yeti wouldn’t last a gas station stop unattended without getting stolen. Gotta appreciate the performance and longevity of the lifetime 10:21

I've had the 55 for a couple years. I've never been able to get more that 4 days from 20 pounds of ice. I'm totally OK with that, given that it has sat outside for days in some of the hottest places in the US. Dollar for dollar, it's the best cooler on the market.

That’s awesome to see they finally updated this one to match the 28ct an 77ct cooler were the weather stripping /Gasket is on the lid instead of flapping around on the base of the cooler

Thanks man a good real time test which most people buy a cooler for and use it without prechilling etc going camping

7 days is an impractical goal for ice retention.
If you "cool" the cooler first, you'll definitely get another 2 days out of the ice. Buy reusable ice packs, freeze them and put them in the cooler for a day before your ice/drink set up. Then you should get through 4 days and still have reminants of ice.
(Or, if you have a large enough freezer, cool it on there before use.)

I used blue ice and froze 16 Oz bottles of water
Added refrigerator cold drinks. As I reduce the contents. I crumpled paper bags and plastic bags to fill all the air space. I got 6 day of cold Drinks without buying any loose ice. I like how easy this one is to close. I have the 55 lifetime cooler. I got it for my Van pulling a small trailer moving my stuff to Texas from California. From North California to South Texas is a five day drive. So this worked well for me.

Couple of notes, 1. You didn't pre chill the cooler. (It makes a big difference). 2. You didn't fill it up with enough ice. (Since you left air in the cooler, that's lost cooling space being used). 3. The drinks you put in there were probably room temp or warm as well.
So all in all! Use more ice, pre chill the cooler, the ice hold rating comes from those steps.

The ice companies keep ice at 30 degrees f. Just below freezing. Use tempered I've or Sub-Zero ice and that will last forever

It helps to pre-chill it and yes fill it up to the top but definitely better than the basic ice chest right?

At 4:25 you flipped the left rope handle into the cooler...then a few seconds later, you closed the lid. Maybe the handle being in there would affect the results ..?

According to Lifetime, that 7 day claim is with a 50/50 ratio of ice to contents. 2 bags would've probably filled that cooler halfway and easily made it to another couple of days.

  • @rayg5445

If your drinks were already chilled the ice lasts way longer

  • @raysanchez9665

  • @rangerdanger88

Dude. First you had the bag of ice on a hot windshield then you lay it in the back of your truck while talking. How long was the ice melting before you put it in the cooler? Maybe that's more "realistic" but Manufacturers make claims based on "optimal- do it as instructed to get best results" Air space reduces ice life and Lifetime recommends pre-chilling cooler and contents before loading it.

  • @jeffharper410
    @jeffharper410 3 года назад

Air space is your biggest enemy, it needs to be a 2 to1 ice ratio, and block ice rules.
Also pre chill everything going into it first.
Soda, water all cold before you store in your cooler.

I think if you would not have had it in your vehicle where it does get hotter, and driving around with. and agitating the water and Ice, I think it would have lasted longer. I will have to try this when I get mine. But leave it stationary and in the shade outside.

  • @rmsepulturah

So many flaws in the test....first your supposed to layer ice....2nd you stand there yapping while ice is sitting in 80 degrees weather...you open the lid and more yapping....no wonder the ice didn't last.
