Great video man! That is the step by step that i love. I dont need to see you struggle with any of it because i already know how much of a pain it can be but, the way you structured your videos gives a clear start to finish process while ensuring no steps are missed and common mistakes are mentioned and easier to avaoid. Thank you!
Just wanted to say thank you for the very informative video. It was very well said and easy to follow. I sincerely appreciate it and everything worked as planned. I am subscribing to you because you deserve it. Thank you so much again. Hopefully I can use you again. Great job with the video and angles also. Seriously you don’t know how much this helped me.
Thank you for your help! I think I commented on your other video too lol. The only hard parts were getting my tools around to take the three bolts off and on and that back clip was a pain! I took off the three bolts first and then took the clip out. I also took the heat guard and o2 sensor off to give myself a bit more room. I also started taking off the power cable and saw sparks. I forgot to take the negative out lol rookie mistake 😂. Thanks again. I hope to run in to more of your videos on my next project. Which is changing my speakers lol
I found it much easier to remove the three bolts first before removing the power wire and plug. Access to these is very difficult while the alternator is in place. Same goes for putting the alternator back in; wire and plug first then bolts. I'm going to rebuild the Mitsubishi alternator I took out so I've got a spare (parts are only $40). Also, it may be easier (for putting the belt back on) to remove the passenger side front tire and wheel well at the start. Routing and setting the belt can be tricky and cause a problem if not done properly so an ounce of prevention...Good video!
I have a 2015 renegade, I replaced the alternator back in February. Since then it shows 14.8 volts, have blown a couple headlight bulbs and get random warning lights on the dash once in a while. Could the alternator be defective?
Thanks for the video,I plan on doing it myself also. What if my battery is already dead will my car crank up after I change the alternator or will I need to charge my battery
hey man can you tell me how you knew the altonater was bad mine is wierd lights come on by them selves at night when it's completely off and is charging at 15.6 volts and I got a new battery
your alternator is over charging which can cause damage to your battery and electronics, it shouldn't be charging over 15 volts. My alternator was still good I just made a how to video for others. I'm not sure why your lights are coming on by themselves sounds like a bad switch for the lights
18ft pounds got it thanks! If I put in a high output JS Alternator and I want to give an appropriate ground wire in addition to the charge cable would you attach the ground wire to the top bolt or the bottom bolt to keep everything secure?
The alternator is grounded from being mounted to the engine, which the engine is grounded somewhere. but if you did want to add an additional ground I would choose the top bolt and use a minimum of 10 guage wire
@@603Mechanicvids I'm adding 400 amps for a massive power inverter winch and full range sound. I'm gonna drop a 2/0 on there. Thanks for your quick responce
Man, I cannot for the life of me get that second plug out. All of the nuts and bolts on mine were tough to get out due to age but that second plug won’t come out. Any tips on tools that would help?
@@SwiftLee662 I did get it out, thankfully. Got the alternator tested, and then the battery and everything came back "fine" but then the belt slipped off trying to get the alternator back in. Took it to a mechanic, and found the alternator was all worn anyway. It's a terrible engine compartment layout in there
@@SwiftLee662Also, I did it the easier way. I loosened and removed all the bolts. It gave me room to remove the clip. The wire actually has more slack then you think once you remove all 3 bolts. I was able to turn the alternator to the side and get a better angle on the clip. Hope this helps

Excellent video. I now have the confidence to go buy an alternator and attempt to install it myself.
thank you, im glad I could help
They were gonna charge me 900$ for this fix
I’m doing it myself thanks to you!

Best video very detailed thank you so much now I know what to do for my renegade 👍👍👍
thanks, I have many other renegade videos as well. I appreciate you choosing mine 👍

This comment made the difference for me. Thanks!
@@davidfortney2852 Awesome; thank you!
I’m a little frustrated at how easy you made this look. On my jeep there’s a bunch of metal lines blocking access to the bottom bolts.
I had the same issue, but then noticed you can easily move them if you just apply a bit of gentle pressure.
Great video, excellent job easy and fast
What tools did you use for the bottom bolts?

U can always get it tested at a auto store but doubt it’s the alternator maybe there’s a short and check the fuses and wiring
Would this work with the 1.4 and how long did this take approximately

your welcome hope it helps you out its not to bad of a job to do, you will need to charge your battery for sure
Thanks where can I get the tools from
most auto parts stores will let you rent tools or you can buy them there or home depot also has decent tools for a good price
Thank you so much you have really been a big help. A lot of other people where trying to charge me over $300
I'm glad i could help you out, save yourself some money and diy you'll be able to do it with no problems im sure of it 👍

After installing the new alternator did you clear code or relearn with your scanner
no neither

My 2017 jeep renegade starts out at 14.8 volts and then goes down 10.8 volts, could that be my alternator?
yes
What year, and model is this? Really good video. I especially liked the clips you spliced in!!
thanks. its a 2018 renegade latitude
Is it the same for a 2015 Jeep renegade sport 2.4?
yes it is
I’m assuming it’s my alternator. Jeep keeps dying after a jumpstart and throws all the warning lights on just before it dies.

Did you ever figure it out? That’s the hardest part 2nd wire is stuck on there, even after moving the red tab.

Still with the girlie man? Tell him amazon sells nitrile gloves . Lol j/k
thanks for the video!
Thanks brother
You put the old alternator back in
