I genuinely saw this book in a bookshop a while ago and very nearly got it. I love the idea of embroidering your own bookmarks! I also just love how much detail there is to Austen's works, I feel like you could spend your whole life learning about her works and still be finding out new Easter eggs and secrets.

ooh I actually adore the colours of the flowers in the book, that lilac-blue shade is gorgeous!

This is exactly how I feel! I never tire of Austen's work. There's always a new angle or interpretation to explore. ♥♥♥

Loved this! I am a great admirer of crafting things even though I can't craft very well lol.

Thank you! If you have fun crafting you should do it (even if it doesn't turn out as you had hoped) ♥

I am very impressed! I would have been either a plainly dressed or strangely dressed Regency woman. I'm very thankful that's not necessary in today's day and age, although I appreciate those who can do it.

I do wonder what people who weren't naturally inclined to sew, embroider, knit, etc. did in the olden days. They must have gotten by somehow. I think I would have made a decent Regency woman. Although, my hands did cramp up after only one day of embroidery lol.

I loved this video and would enjoy seeing how you finish off the bookmarks! I have only done cross stitch because "real" embroidery intimidates me, but that book of Regency era designs is intriguing me!

Embroidery is a ton of fun! I just forgot how time consuming it can be. I used to do it quite a bit when I very briefly worked part time.

Thank you! I hope I have the time to finish them. I haven't picked up my embroidery since the video. It's so time consuming and I think I'd rather catch up with all my reading.

What a lovely and soothing video! I look forward to seeing the finished result. I’ve just finished reading Northanger Abbey and found Mrs Allen’s clothing obsession hilarious.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I honestly didn't pick up on Mrs. Allen's clothing obsession when I read Northanger. It'll be something to look forward to in future readings I suppose! :)

They're coming along beautifully! I'm so glad you're enjoying the book. If you are any good at French knots, would you be willing to give me lessons? I live in fear of French knots. The earrings look great on you, too.

I've been reading a lot of Jennie Batcherlor's academic writing lately, but I didn't know she had also written this book on embroidery! This was such a fun but informative video and I don't know if I have enough willpower to not order an embroidery kit and that book in the next five minutes. Would you say this is suitable for a beginner? I've never embroidered anything in my life. Your bookmarks are going to be so pretty and intricate 😍

    • @BlatantlyBookish
      @BlatantlyBookish  3 года назад

It's a great book! I don't know if it's the best for true beginners though. The patterns range in complexity, but the instructions are a bit lacking if you don't already know basic stitches. I'd say you could supplement with either a beginner book for embroidery or rely on RUclips to learn and practice basic stitches before diving into the regency patterns. I kind of taught myself embroidery on RUclips and I also kind of just make it up as I go. I cannot embroider on camera though. I think I would have been quite an accomplished regency lady. 😆

I think this is an amazing idea for people who enjoy embroidery. Unfortunately I never enjoyed anything remotely related to embroidery, needle point, quilting, sewing, knitting, or crocheting. My mom did those things and taught my daughter. She enjoys it immensely. It is how she relaxes and relieves her stress. For me too stressful.

    • @BlatantlyBookish

My mother always says that these things skip a generation. She doesn't do any of these sorts of crafts either, but my grandmother taught me how to knit!

If you want to read a novel with Austen's vibes and embroidery I suggest you "A single thread" by Tracy Chevalier. She always writes about women who have to find their place in the world; and her stories add something of JA between the lines.

Thank you for the recommendation! I have quite a few Tracy Chevalier's on my neverending TBR, but I'll have to look into A Single Thread as well. ♥

I will in the future, but there isn't any more progress than at the end of my video as of now. My wrist hurts from embroidering and then editing all day yesterday. I'm taking a break for a few days.
