Hi! I recently purchased an Air 4, with only 64 gigs of storage, so an ssd like this seems quite necessary for my work. I'm a visual artist. Your review is very helpful! Thank you! Hey man! Nice video. I just have *one* thing to say. I was doing some research and I’ve found out the iPad Pro’s USB-C port is capable of speeds up to 10gb/s which is 1250MB/s, so is the T7. However, the fastest time recorded for your test was around 68MB/s. This would make sense if your cable was USB Gen 2, and the first test was a lucky shot. Not too sure in this situation to honest, is there any way you could purchase a *USB 3.2 Gen 2*, I would suggest getting it from Anker on Amazon. Great videos though, thanks!

Excellent! A question, if you don’t mind. Do you have an opinion on the DJI OSMO 3, that I would use in conjunction with my iPhone 11 Pro Max, or the DJI Pocket. Both seem like great products, but I can’t afford both. Suggestions?
Great review! Which one do you think can transfer big files faster between this one and the SanDisk Extreme Pro? (Inside and out an iPad Pro). Thanks so much in advance.
I wonder how much time it adds app during the “Replace” action (erase and copy), maybe it's a good comparison if its “Keep Both” (just copy). I’m not really sure too 😅
Hey, you should check out "FE File Manager" as I found out that it is the most stable file manager I've used so far. It is also showing the transfer rate in MByte/s and ETA in minute and sec to complete. The not so good is when you plug-in an external disk, it will not show up automatically. You basically need to add new "external location" connection each time you connect the external disk, however for me it is worth it as it just take 10 secs. After you start the transfer you can minimize it to background or even go too homescreen or other app. Once the transfer completed it will send you a notification :)
The read / write speeds are way below advertised numbers. Is it because of iPad's files app or iPad can't pass enough power to it or ...? Have you tested this with a desktop computer?
what are the best headphone for iPad Pro 11 bcoz I am struggling a lot to find Should I go for the beats solo or sony m3 or bose??? much appreciated if you ans this
A quick question (or two). I have a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9. Will this work out of the box or does it need to be formatted on a Mac? I am a PC guy and my Seagate Portable drives (4tb) do not because they are formatted with NTFS. I reformatted with exfat both in Windows and Linux but apparently IOS devices don't read exfat unless it is formatted on a MAC.
Gary Herman not sure about ssd, since im looking for one myself and my sata external is also ntfs. However i got those sandisk flash drive and i formatted it to exfat through my windows pc and my ipad pro 11 2020 can read and write from it. I am assuming if those flash drives work, it should do for windows formatted exfat ssd?
@@-l485 Hello, I should have gotten back sooner. I decided to take the plunge and purchase the Sony T7 SSD 1tb. It works out of the box with my iPad Pro (sort of). My purpose was to go through my library of 38,000 photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. Both Creative Cloud products are supposed work on the iPad Pro. Part of the reason I upgraded to the 2020 12.9 iPad Pro in the first place was for the higher resolution screen to edit photos. The problem is that although the iPad sees everything in Lightroom as well as the file app in order to import photos into the LR catalog I need to go to each subdirectory or LR cannot import the photos. I have over 500 subdirectories. The same is true for Bridge. I keep buying into the fiction that the iPad Pro can be a laptop replacement nd it keeps being almost there but the limitations in software to 'Apps' instead of applications (the CC versions on iPad have other limitations as well) is just too big a gap. I loved my take anywhere 9.7" iPad Pro that I used for entertainment but thinking of selling this one as too awkward for take anywhere and not functional enough for my work. I purchased a Lenovo Yoga C940 with a 4k display, 16 gig. of memory and a 1tb SSD with a 4 year onsite warranty including theft and accident protection for over $150 less than the (iPad Pro plus $350 keyboard and 2 year accident warranty). and the Yoga has better everything, still not take anywhere but I can run real applications on it and it is stunning for sound and video. Oh and BTW it is lighter and way more stable than the iPad Pro with that ridiculously expensive top heavy keyboard that has tried to fall off my lap a dozen times. Sorry about the rant (OK not really)
@@-l485 Sorry I got distracted on my rant about my experience with iPad Pro- off subject here. The T7 SSD itself is superb. Transfer rates are excellent on USB 3.1 (iPad Pro and even faster on Thunderbolt). I found friend that has a Mac Pro and I can confirm it works well with a Mac, Windows, IOS 13x, an Linux (don't know about Android, but it usually will read anything Linux or Windows will). So if you are an iPad exclusive or a multi-operating system person this is a great choice.
Gary Herman ah glad you took the plunge abt the ssd. Im thinking of buying this and was watching a lot of review vids and read comments along the way. Thats how i saw yours. And no worries about the rant, i was just ranting as well with a friend of mine about how terrible these adobe mobile apps are. To me, its not much about the ipad, as long as we arent using one ecosystem, we will have to jump through the hoops to synchronise our files. I accept i gotta live with that. I am out of the apple ecosystem except for the ipad because im being held hostage by the apps. I work with photoshop 24/7 and wanted a mobile workflow, even though i have a laptop, its different just carrying an ipad around...even with keyboard, ipad is more convenient and light. My gripe is more with Adobe itself than the ipad. The cloud system is a joke. Periodt. Be it for you with your photos on LR (i am not even importing mine to the ipad lol its such a headache like u said, i still access lightroom from my phone). But this photoshop ipad is terrible, terrible, terrible. It can open local files but CANT save locally. I dont want the cloud. I just want my work saved and overwrite locally and not lost that i have to do again. I cant import brushes but i do a lot of sfx work that needs them. I love procreate for drawing but procreate cannot open grayscale files (which is what i predominantly work with) So now, i use affinity photo on my ipad (affinity photo can open locally, save locally, can open grayscale, can do layers and can import photoshop .abr files) and stick to photoshop for desktop (affinity photo’s type/fonts management system still doesnt fulfil what i need so i am still stuck with photoshop on that). So with that, i have sort of achieved some kind of weird workflow through several apps. Honestly, this is not ipad’s fault but these developers fault. Why cant they have a universal system? Adobe is a downright clown. Btw, affinity photo is not a bad replacement for lightroom either imo.
I've just watched a video where the SSD's are not being recognised on the new iPad pro and they gotta connect it to the MacBook first. Have you heard anything like this?
Can I use this "Samsung T7 Touch Portable SSD" to install macOS Mojave to make my iMac faster? Or is this disk just for data like saving photos and more? My iMac is mid 2015 and the hard disk is very slow. thanks
Thong Tran: Nope. iPad Pro uses usb 3.2 gen 2 x1 (aka usb 3.1 gen 2 - don’t ask. I know it’s confusing) that is capable of 10Gb/s. the advertised bandwidth for the T7 Touch is 1GB/s which translates to approx. 8 Gb/s, so SAM’s question stands. What’s up with the crappy performance?!?
It seems to stop working on my ipad 2020 after 1 year of use. I can see the files, but they do not load when you want to open them. I tried the disk on a Mac and this works perfectly. Does someone have any fixes for this?
Hi Average Tech Guy, unfortunately the Samsung T7 Touch doesn’t work with the iPad Pro 12.9 2021…. Do you or anybody in the community have a work around??? Thanks in advance, Charlie
I think this one is nvme(1gb/s). Which has Samsung nvme ssd that has DRAM. Also the case itself has a operating program that works on pc and android. Also aditional biometric security instead of only data encryption. I'd say it's not the cost efficiency that should be compared to this one. Also customizable cases just have shitty board quality and fucked up heatsink. Trust me, I have one and it's not even some cheap Chinese crap.
Ben Kim I bought a Samsung sad internal drive with a case of eBay, saved over £100 and haven’t had any problems with it so far and I’m reaching nearly 4 months, I think personally, it’s pointless having the biometric security, unless you’re doing some serious work, and even at that, I don’t see why anyone would be leaving their hard drive around needlessly, just my 2 cents, but I think the price is a little steep for what it really is.
@@WarrenKirkpatrick ah, in my case I live in Korea so ssd and Samsung gadget are bit cheaper and offer much service. Getting a case(mostly good ones are from Japan) and a ssd with similar spec as external ssd isn't 100 euro more cheaper. It's 20~30 euros at best(as long as ssd is Dram Samsung ssd).
