Thank you for another great review! Based on your review and my needs, just purchased a Samsung Silver Touch 1 TB SSD from B&H for $159.00. I’m very grateful for your expertise.
Just thinnking how those old computers in your backround make might make viewers think this is only a retro computer channel which is obviously not the case..but it might deter some viewers. Samsungs fingerprint drive is very cool great review.
Hi, I have a problem with Samsung T7 Touch. Have you ever used/tested it and see the same problem before? I have the 2TB version of this SSD. The drive tends to stop working and restart itself very often when I transfered a lot of files or a large file out of it. It happened a couple times when I was playing videos from it. I thought it was a heat problem so I put a fan on it to cool it down. Didn't fix the problem. I changed from USB C to USB A port hoping that slower speed might make a difference, nope. I tried it with 3 different powerhouse computers (Razer Blade 15, Lenovo P53 and an Intel Xenon workstation). The firmware is up-to-date and I used the cables that came with the drive. I also tried the different cables but still didn't fix the problem. I got a replacement from Amazon and the problem is still there so I think it should be the design problem. I saw a few people on Amazon with the same problem. Thanks!
If wanting to access my files from this SSD on someone else's PC/Mac, I do not need to download Samsung software on theirs? Just plug in, fingerprint/pw, and can instantly read/write?
It would be most helpful if you started with how to install the fingerprint sensor. And, if one didn't set up a password or fingerprint security, then how-to after the fact. In my case, I was able to connect the SSD and back up my iMac. Easy peasy. Now, would like to add the fingerprint security option.
@Lon.TV - are you able to create a larger, unencrypted partition while still keeping the secure partition locked? i.e - the ability to use a portion of the drive like a normal usb disk while the rest of it is only accessible when unlocked?
What if the fingerprint one day malfunctioned - then can you still access the drive with a password? Or are you screwed and locked out if your fingerprint scanner stops working?
I have MacBook Air 2018 with MACOS Catalina 10.15.6 operating system and bought on July 23, 2020 SAMSUNG T7 Touch SSD laptop Model MU-PC2T0K / WW - MODEL MU-PC2T0K . Software to configure fingerprint does not work in Samung Portable SSD v1.0 application; Disconnect message appears and I have updated the latest version; if I can access the disk but I cannot configure a fingerprint, in software, which is the attractive thing to buy for security What do you recommend?
Hi good review i wander if you could help me As I ask if t7 can connect to samsung smart tv I have samsung smart tv 7300 55 inch curved Is t7 readable on this tv? Thanx
Thank you for the very inform🎉ative video. Can you confirm if the T7 Touch works with an iPhone (I know it works with iPad, but some things work only with iPad). More importantly, can the encrypted T7 Touch be UNLOCKED when connected to an iPhone. TIA!
@@LonSeidman Thank you for the reply. I would be using a powered usb hub or the camera adaptor from Apple, so power is not an issue here. I bought a SanDisk 2 TB SSD, but unfortunately it can unlock only on Windows or Mac, but not an Android (or iPhone) because there is no app for the mobile platforms to unlock the encrypted disk (they can be accessed if the SSD isn't encrypted). Samsung has an Android app (Portable SSD) for its SSDs, so they can be unlocked on Android devices using password. Since you say that once the fingerprint is setup on the T7 Touch using Windows/ Mac, it works fine on any device using just the fingerprint (with no need to install the software), I'm interested in getting the T7 Touch instead of the T7 Shield, but only if it can be unlocked on an iPhone (connected via a powered USB hub) using the fingerprint. I plan to use the built-in hardware based encryption. If the T7 Touch CANNOT be unlocked on the iPhone, I would get the T7 Shield instead and use it just with my Android and laptops.
Good review. I have a 512 gig T5 and was curious how the fingerprint encryption and the USB-C would work. Put it ion my Amazon Wish list, waiting for a sale!
Amazon is having a sale right now! 40% off great deal. I was contemplating getting one, which landed me here watching this RUclips review. I think I am getting one after all. You should too!
Reformatting those type SSD's to NTFS file format might* get it work better with Android phones. Otherwise Android folks may want to look for Developer Options or USB Debugging.
Would you still take t7 over t5 for editing 4K video fcp iMac assuming they were the same price. I keep hearing about performance issues with larger files
You can set it to be unprotected, protected with pw only, or protected with pw and fingerprint. So if the sensor breaks you still access it with the pw
That's a nice lookin drive Lon! Question: if you have it fingerprint encrypted and your finger goes missing or someone else gets the drive, is the drive locked forever or do you have the option to format the drive and start over with new encryption? Also, have you seen any other drives out there with a fingerprint reader like this?
Good afternoon, can I install macOS Mojave on this ssd? My iMac mid 2015 is very slow with the internal HD disk, but I am thinking of using an external SSD disk and I think this Samsung SSD T7 must be very good. Thank you and a hug from Portugal.
I bought the Samsung T7 Touch last week for my new MacBook Pro 14. Running Blackmagic Disk Speed Test could only get around 700 MB/s both read and write. It just came out of the box and I was using the cable that comes with it. I was expecting to get around 800 MB/s read and write. Does anyone know what is causing the issue?
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Uriel Jadiel thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Also, from what I understand, exFAT isn't the most reliable of formats for data, so I'm not sure something like this that isn't just a micro SD card or something should come with that storage format as a default.
I've got the T3 and T5 was about to get one of these but went with OWC as they have a waterproof SSD for around the same price. Sure it's a small bit larger in size but the waterproofing is definitely a must for me. Also the price is about the same.
OneManShow, I purchased a curved 4K Samsung Tv and right after the warranty expired, the LED backlights died. Samsung refused to fix the problem after I had two main boards die on the tv and had multiple other problems. I gave up and purchased an LG OLED and have loved it ever since. LG even replaced my OLED panel out of warranty after I discovered a small manufacturers defect in the panel.
3:40 so you can use like one pendrive, one time you set the fingerprint, excellent review, thanks
It's like Harward Stark reviewing T7.
Beautiful.

Wow! Great review. I really appreciate the Android compatibility info.
I have a lot of gift cards for a local technology store I got for my 21st. Is this still a good buy? FYI I am on an M1 MacBook Pro.
Can you encrypt one partition and keep another unprotected?

Encryption is done to the whole disk. There is no option to apply encryption to partitions.

Do you still like it?
hi do you know if i can use this on my tv will it work ?
can Samsung T7 Touch be formatted without a password or fingerprint in its locked state?

Can you put Bitlocker encryption on top ? or once you unlock with finger , then have bitlocker encryption ask for password.

Does this work on a iPad air 4th gen (2021) with the touch feature ?
Should work!

You would revert to the password - I don’t think there’s any way to erase the partition if you lose the password though
@@LonSeidman there's always a way, I think :))
@@LonSeidman
Samsung has an online service that helps erase the disk if the password is forgotten. They cannot help recover the data though.
Q: can I use it w 2 laptop?
will it work on chtome os

Hi. How's your experience with the SSD by now?
I edit 1080p video on it and it's working fine. But when it comes to 4k, the video is lagging@@danielbelik
Very nice job!
formatted to exFAT to be as compatible as possible.
That’s a pretty cool feature. I use a couple T5s and they work great for PC + Mac

Insightful.
It's 2020. I need like 10TB+ on a drive this size that isn't a micro SD card or thumb drive.

Samsung pisses me off with their Televisions but their SSDs are fantastic.
Why? They make the best televisions in the business IMHO.

Bill Frost : Meh... that’s too bad. Sounds like you got a bit of a lemon.
Lol I don’t know why Samsung sells so many TVs but you never do you get one of those You get an LG oled or Sony or even Panasonic
Not made up of metal, it's aluminium, I guess
Aluminum is metal
God those Macs look ugly
