At least this accident did not severely damage I-95 and no one was killed. The accident on I-95 in Philadelphia, PA claimed the life of the tanker truck driver and completely destroyed a whole portion of the elevated portion of I-95. It was initially thought I-95 could be closed for months. But this was deemed unacceptable. So crews worked around the clock to build a temporary bridge to get the highway reopened on June 23rd, 12 days after the accident. During the 12 days, local residents were livid about traffic being detoured through their neighborhood. Work is still progressing on rebuilding a permanent bridge to replace the one burned out. The accident was investigated and determined trucker lost control negotiating a turn off of the freeway, overturning and catching on fire under the bridge of the freeway he had just exited from.
