No pay towards your exorbitant medical bills, though?, here in the UK I can have 40 days paid holiday a year and NHS care if I crash on the way to work, if it snowed like this I can book it off and get paid.
I carried 300lbs of sand and 100 lb of salt in the back of my truck. The idea was to open the bags and use them if i ever got stuck, but i never got stuck because of the weight and the fact i put winter tires on my truck. Didnt even need the back roads plowed, uphill, everything, was fine. Ended up using it to help others though
When i hear a snow storm is coming, takes me 10 minutes to change to snow tires, and i usually put two 5 gallon buckets full with a mix of ice melt and speedy dry,for traction is amazing plus is less heavy than sand,of course a flat shovel long handle, tow strap, emergency gear, etc, all fitted in my SUV,i wish many can do the same.

As a Clevelander, we’ve been having mild winters for some years now. We got this lake effect storm on Thanksgiving weekend, which is rare and literally one of the highest travel weeks of the year. I don’t even remember having an advisory until after the snow already came.
Only a couple mins into this video and I see one woman cussing at someone filming her in distress, and at first was thinking really cussing at someone filming you, but then it struck me how this is the way our world now is, people would rather film someone in distress instead of helping them get out of that stressful situation. Frustrating as it is, unfortunitly that is for the most part at least how people are towards one another these days. Sad but true! I hope and pray for all those affected by these crazy storms, and that everyone makes it home safely. Very few and far between. You're obviously not from here or reading the video wrong. Erie is full of self centered egotistical people who will drive right by someone roadside in need. But the best possible thing you can do is have AWD/4WD *and* winter tires. People will make all kinds of crazy excuses to be cheap and not buy proper tires. "I've been driving for 73 years in the Arctic Circle and I never had snow tires! Learn to drive!" Idiots.
@@bnr32jason The thing is, in the long run buying snow tires doesn't really cost extra, you can look at them as the cost of another set of all seasons because the mileage you put on them is not going on your current all season tires.
It's a good idea to also use your rubber floor mats stick them under the tires it'll help with traction, I have had to do it myself when I've been stuck. Also having sandbags in your truck and keeping salt or cat litter in your vehicle as part of your winter kit

As a Canadian resident I have the solution to all of these issues. When bad weather comes, stay home. I'm so sick of society putting presure on everyone to go somewhere or do something. If you are driving in a blizzard you are the problem not the storm. Have to go to work or take your child to ballet? No you don't have to do anything. Ask your 10 year old if they would rather stay home and play or make a failed attempt to get to ballet and spend 2 days trapped in a car on the freeway and they will likely give you the correct answer. Municipalities should prioritize keeping the power on and clearing the main arteries for emergency services. Ignore the airport because they have food and shelter and chose to be there. You are not a doctor or a nurse. If you have elderly family call them and make sure they know how important it is to stay inside and not bother clearing snow. If you don't have a weeks food and medication in reserve during the winter you are part of the problem. You are no match for mother nature and frankly you aren't that important. Just stay home.
For context, this happened on Thanksgiving weekend; one of the highest weekends for travel in the year. I live in Cleveland (aka on the lake). The advisory didn’t come until after the snow started.

Good Lord this reminds me of the Blizzard of 1978 that happened in New England only the snow "covered" the vehicles and many perished. I only made it home thanks to a few 18 wheelers who came to my aide and pushed me if I became stuck. I even offered them a safe haven but they were at a spot with hotels/motels. Why do people floor it and expect to go anywhere? You might as well put your car in park and shut it off. Or just stay home if you don't know how to drive in snow.
I’ve never been caught up in a snow storm nor do I plan on ever getting caught up in one. I always listen to the weather forecast and stay away from mess like this. Love watching these though 😁😁😁😁
I spent a year in that area and those "lake effect" storms are incredible, how much snow they dump. What I learned about driving there in Winter is, you just don't drive while those big storms are blowing through. Then you wait until after the storms have lightened up and the road crews have had a chance to clear the roads before heading out. If I lived there I probably would have 4WD and swap tires in Winter, if I could afford it and had a place to store the extra 4 wheels and tires. And would carry tire socks, sand, shovel, etc.
The lake effect snow machine is scary. I hit it twice: on I-65 in indiana & I-41 in wisconsin years ago; temporary whiteout conditions. Came out on the other side of it in indiana between gary, in & remington, in & the sun started coming back out again. Hit it in wisconsin between fond du lac, wi & richfield, wi & had to shutdown at the truckstop & dig out of the parking space the next morning. ROUGH STUFF INDEED!!
I'm surprised that for a first-world country, you have so many aerial cables. Where I come from, we lay our cables underground: it's more aesthetically pleasing.
Oh no, that's Queen Laquesha to us commoners like you or I ! . I assume she put down her window just before the video clip started to express her status to the camera rather then leave her window closed to keep her children warm and concentrate on what she was doing. I assume this is very typical of the weather that hits every so often throughout the winter in that area and am guessing there are numerous people that don't put winter tires on ...pretty much need a good clearance 4x4 and a good set of winter tires just to deal with an area like that and even then stay off the road unless one has to be on it.
@@Doris-i3o LOL, I was thinking the same thing and its black friday sales correct ... I guess that one lady who was cussing out the camera man took the friday statement literally.
A lot of these people need to turn off traction control when trying to get moving. Many times the computer will sense a spinning wheel and apply the brake to that wheel to stop it. Not exactly helpful when trying to get un-stuck. Once moving turn it back on if you wish (most drivers should😏)
Im in Ontario Canada, but we have the same weather often. I live in a rural area, and would never be without 4x4 and good snow tires. The results if you don't are pretty much every vehicle in this video. Snow tires are the bare minimum.
I agree, a good set of winter tires are a must. Juging from the wheel spin and the use of alloy rims, looks like more than a few people thing that pow profile performancee tires or bald all-season tires are OK for snow and ice.
So is staying the heck home unless you absolutely have to go somewhere. I cannot believe the number of people who insist on driving in a heavy storm for non-essential items. Your life is worth more milk, beer, or cigarettes, folks.
The same with me. I had front wheel drive cars and hate it driving in snow. Now, I drive my new Honda CR-V AWD and I love how it handles in bad weather conditions.
Just went through northeast Ohio started shoveling Friday and still shoveling Sunday we got 3 feet and will start shoveling Monday got about 12 hrs into it.

If temps were sitting on a rain/snow line before turning to snow, there could be a nice slick coating of ice under that snow on the video. No tire's gonna help you on ice.
@@Kit-Ballou3664 ... Studded snow tires work very well on ice, believe me I worked in a shop that had a tire stud gun and put a stud in every knobby of my dirt bike tires and rode all winter, use to ice race too... 1 hex head sheet metal screw in each knobby... fun times. 👍

@@joninpgh Snow tires are not going to help in several feet of snow. There was too much snow on the roads and you can't plow them fast enough.
1:28 Can’t even escape the ratchetness in a snowstorm
80% of them didn't need to be out there.
TRUTH!
Snowmobilers in Canada would love this!! Invest in winter tires?
Great Work again ! High Quality Footage
Wow, thanks!
Instead of salt, what if we use Cajun seasoning?
I’ve never been caught up in a snow storm nor do I plan on ever getting caught up in one. I always listen to the weather forecast and stay away from mess like this. Love watching these though 😁😁😁😁
19:20 I believe the phrase you're looking for is "no, I'm ok, but thank you for stopping to check".
Back in the 50's you would hear chains noise coming from the wheels. not today.
It was 72 in Beautiful Ocala Fl. Today !!!!!!
Fantastic footage…I’ve experienced snow storms while living in Pittsburgh; exactly why we moved to Florida!! 🏖️
But you have hurricanes !
Haven't had no snow yet in Pittsburgh but it's a coming!😮
Wussy.
Eeie PA was up to 62" at 10 pm on Dec 4th!
This is one of the reasons I did my Thanksgiving trip to Erie, Pa at the beginning of November!!
Smart.
👍👍👍
right on!
Are you allowed to have winter tires friction tires / studded tires in the USA during the winter?
I spent a year in that area and those "lake effect" storms are incredible, how much snow they dump.
What I learned about driving there in Winter is, you just don't drive while those big storms are blowing through. Then you wait until after the storms have lightened up and the road crews have had a chance to clear the roads before heading out.
If I lived there I probably would have 4WD and swap tires in Winter, if I could afford it and had a place to store the extra 4 wheels and tires. And would carry tire socks, sand, shovel, etc.
u have to slow the trailer wheels before slowing the tractor wheels to prevent jackknifing.
Yeah, that lake effect snow❄️ is nothing to play around with. 🤯🌨️🥶
Wet and heavy..seniors should not shovel this....be careful?
The lake effect snow machine is scary. I hit it twice: on I-65 in indiana & I-41 in wisconsin years ago; temporary whiteout conditions. Came out on the other side of it in indiana between gary, in & remington, in & the sun started coming back out again. Hit it in wisconsin between fond du lac, wi & richfield, wi & had to shutdown at the truckstop & dig out of the parking space the next morning. ROUGH STUFF INDEED!!
Cool !
In Savannah GA 56 degrees sunny chili but no snow .i feel sorry for you guys
Nice footage Fam
Thanks Heather!
I'm surprised that for a first-world country, you have so many aerial cables. Where I come from, we lay our cables underground: it's more aesthetically pleasing.
Laquesha big mad
Oh no, that's Queen Laquesha to us commoners like you or I ! . I assume she put down her window just before the video clip started to express her status to the camera rather then leave her window closed to keep her children warm and concentrate on what she was doing. I assume this is very typical of the weather that hits every so often throughout the winter in that area and am guessing there are numerous people that don't put winter tires on ...pretty much need a good clearance 4x4 and a good set of winter tires just to deal with an area like that and even then stay off the road unless one has to be on it.
It makes me wonder if those lottery tickets and Swisher Sweets were that important to go out in the snow for. :)
@@Doris-i3o LOL, I was thinking the same thing and its black friday sales correct ... I guess that one lady who was cussing out the camera man took the friday statement literally.
@@charlesb4267Yup! 4x4 - check! Stayed my behind right at home - check, check, & check!
@@DanielleSamoneJohnson77 Indeed, that is the prudent thing to do as long as obviously there isn't a dire need to be out on the road.
Is there going to be anymore live footage about the Lake Erie storm this evening
0:12 these people must have never heard of snow tires
Wish we could have stude tires or four wheel drive or all wheel drive
It’s called “Stupidity and Arrogance.”
And chains
just reality, I am not spending another 900 for tires when it hardly even snows anymore.
@ It could save you HOURS stuck in a ditch and then spending $100 for a tow truck. I saw it all living in northern NY for 64 years..
God i love my Jeep pickup..
With Mickey Thompson AT3’s..!!😎
Where’s the snow plows?
My thoughts too. Seen zero plows or salt trucks.
They're waiting on FEMA to tell them to plow now!!!! Same thing in NC.. GET IT!!!!
they're probably stuck behind all those cars with summer tires still on them.
Why don't they change to proper winter-tires for the season? Like we do here in Norway.
Is it worth wrecking you car just to run to Target?
but black freday sales!
Used to live in Vermont...would time my going out between the storms!!
A lot of these people need to turn off traction control when trying to get moving. Many times the computer will sense a spinning wheel and apply the brake to that wheel to stop it. Not exactly helpful when trying to get un-stuck. Once moving turn it back on if you wish (most drivers should😏)
Good Advice!
The computer should disable the car so they have to STAY HOME! 😁
The purpose of traction control is to slow or stop spinning tires.
Thats why you carry chains.. cables or the socks... cat litter salt or de-icer... shovels...
For sure. Sometimes you just may not be able to get them on without freezing.
Im in Ontario Canada, but we have the same weather often. I live in a rural area, and would never be without 4x4 and good snow tires. The results if you don't are pretty much every vehicle in this video. Snow tires are the bare minimum.
yeh...we keep our roads clear pretty well
I agree, a good set of winter tires are a must.
Candles and warm blankets and emergency food always in the back for sudden storms
The same with me. I had front wheel drive cars and hate it driving in snow. Now, I drive my new Honda CR-V AWD and I love how it handles in bad weather conditions.
How are those Lo-Pro all seasons working out for ya now...lol
Wow! I live directly across the lake and there is nothing here…yet?
Me to they forcased 100 cm possible woke up to nothing yet...live between erie and ontario lakes.
Where are they all going?
Get out of your vehicle on a busy highway during a whiteout Said NO ONE EVER
Yeah, I saw that....holy krap, that was mindblowing. Not2bright
What happened to the sound on the video?
I’d rather be safe at home
Where are your chains semi drivers? You should have some at all times around Erie County driving this time of year.
"Mr. Plow that's the name, That name again is Mr. PLOW!"
Plooooooow 😅 ooooouw
Good tires should make all the difference!
Nice example for the kids in the car at 1:30. Not too surprising.
You could see a very small child moving around in the backseat and he was not even in a car seat, SHM!!!
thats 26th st between state and peach. that hill is always awful.
mom setting a good examples of good manners in front of her lose kids
got to get the wings home fo dey git cold...
That’s why I hate these kind of black woman. They think they know everything and are the boss of everybody else.
Just went through northeast Ohio started shoveling Friday and still shoveling Sunday we got 3 feet and will start shoveling Monday got about 12 hrs into it.
I used to live in Erie, PA and I love a good snowstorm, that is when I'm watching it on YT from my home in Phoenix, AZ. 🤣🤣
You lucky dog !
A phoenix rises from the ashes. It's getting so hot in the SW United States that pretty soon all that will be left is ashes.
Totally agree, I don’t miss the Michigan winters.👍🌵🏜️🌵
and you can keep a snow Strom I hate them now as a grown up and a trucker its not funny as when I was a kidd
@@kelvintorrence5994 .... Naaa it's not the snow that's the problem... it's the ever growing mass population that can't cope with it. Believe me... I plowed & worked the Blizzard of 1978 in Massachusetts, made plenty of $$$$$$ working that foolishness just driving a dump truck to the snow dump. 😁😁😁
Do city cars
Not have four wheel drive?
Say what? There's no such thing as "city cars." The cars are whatever the people who drive them buy. Some have 4WD, some don't. Some front wheel drive, some rear. There's not one standard type of car that people in cities buy/drive LMAO
Why would anyone go out in this if they didn't have to?
Even if they had to I’d say not worth risking my life over stay home any ways.
Becouse people(many of them)are stupid.
Nobody will deliver pizza in a storm. You have to go get.
@@maplebones. Keep several weeks of emergency food in your house at all times.-- hurricane area resident. That’s called being prepared.
I know people are snow tested in those areas. But even so, why are so many people out on the roads in those conditions?
Those Amish women pushing the car 😳
SUVs and Pickup Trucks with only rear wheel or from wheel drive? 😮
I think I just went from all season tires to snow tires after watching this video.
Perhaps get studded tires?
@ Don’t need all that in MI
why weren't the snow plows out earlier. poor state and city preparedness. no snow tires?
I went on I-79 through this area on the 26th....i arrived in Dunkirk NY,,unloaded my tanker and made it back to WV...i knew this1
. storm was going to be awful...
Good for you!! Have you ever had to sleep in your big rig bc of road conditions??
Well Bless your heart 💘.
All truckers should be weather conscious in order to avoid pile-ups like some recent ones being shown.
@@sweettrubble4635 ... Obviously you've never seen a 'Swift' driver on the road (or off the road most likely) 😁
@frankspinski161 *Anybody* who tries dtiving *anything* on that stuff is taking a horrible chance with himself and with other drivers.
Fantastic footage here, along with some truly comical moments lol
What's funny goofy
How's Peach Street?
Love the "unedited" videos; GREAT CONTENT ❤❤💯💯👍👍
Do people lose electricity in this type of weather?
Wish some of the snow would come more towards the buckeye state we just got flurries honestly
Want dry weather for better tailgating before the big beatdown on Saturday in Columbus.
Winter tires was not good idea when you know when the Winter approaches ?
I live in Erie. I live on peach Street. I have no shovel and I was snowed in all day I had two neighbors shovel me out but I don't know what I'm going to do for tomorrow. Welcome to winter 🥶❄️
live in erie with no snow shovel? why?
Ummm get a shovel once it stops snowing.
Btw if you have no hat and gloves go get them.
I bet you ain’t got no boots niether
Stay home tomorrow. Stay safe.
Maybe grab a clue and get a shovel. Why wouldn't you have one?
By deflating the tires a little you might get better traction.
I don't get it. I'm seeing 2 wd pickup trucks, rear wheel drive cars, and front wheel drive cars and none of them appear to have snow tires on them. Living in an area that you know will snow like crazy ALL winter. Why?
If temps were sitting on a rain/snow line before turning to snow, there could be a nice slick coating of ice under that snow on the video. No tire's gonna help you on ice.
@@Kit-Ballou3664 ... Studded snow tires work very well on ice, believe me I worked in a shop that had a tire stud gun and put a stud in every knobby of my dirt bike tires and rode all winter, use to ice race too... 1 hex head sheet metal screw in each knobby... fun times. 👍
@frankspinski161 Not allowed in NY . At least in our area. They punish the asphalt which is usually what we're looking at.
@@Kit-Ballou3664 ... Yeah I heard that years ago, really stooopid if you ask me.
@@Kit-Ballou3664 BS, run a regular tire on ice and then run a winter tire on ice and then get back to me.
