The Scot's have a very long history of repelling enemies from their land. The Romans were the first victims of Scot's Warrior's. The English also learned that Scotland would never be their 's to dominate.
I'm a Scot but do not like people who twist history from their ignorance.and over exuberant patriotic fervour.. The Romans did invade Scotland called then Caledonia. But had not more interest in it than Wales, or Cornwall. The Romans liked rich febrile land - warmer the better. Even today, the land is sparsely populated the farther you get from the lowlands. As for the people today in these islands, we are a very mixed breed - Vikings, Danes Angles French Italian, and you name it. Even the language we speak is a mix. The Black Watch regiment was originally created from England (George 2nd) to police the highlands following the Jacobite rebellion. They were no friends of the Highlanders in general, outside their own clans The whole current 'Highland Dress' stems from the regimental military dress of the British Army which developed as Britain moved ahead from the Industrial revolution and expanding its empire.. Without our nation being united, and left bickering among ourselves as the Industrial Revolution built, and developed elsewhere, and no Empire, we would have remained as insignificant as we appear on the world map. And that is where we will finish up if some here can't see further than their nose.
I nursed an elderly gentleman here in Australia who was a past serving member of the Black Watch during WW1, he sadly has passed on now many years ago, cheers dennis
Greetings from the UK. Thank god these men are on our side. They would scare the p(i)ss out of me if I had to face them in battle. My grandfather told me that the Germans in the second world war quaked with fear when they heard the pipes, looking at these young men I can understand why. They are a credit to Scotland and a credit to the UK. God bless you lads
You grandfather was correct. There are reports of german infantrymen throwing down their rifles and running. They knew the well deserved reputation of the soldiers they called: "die Damen aus der Hölle".
They also pissed their lederhosen at the pipes of the Canadian Scottish Regiments. In memory of Piper Jimmy Richardson VC, KIA near Courcellette, Somme October 1916
Well Fred, what you described was already posted above by fiery1962 when he said "Damen aus der Hölle".......which translates as "The Ladies from Hell". So, we're all in basic agreement
@@halbarbour7340 the German army nickname for them were Devel's in skirts, when heard the sound of the bagpipe they knew it was coming there way, put the fear of God in them !
This is going to break the 4M views barrier today - Utterly amazing! Thanks so much to all who have viewed it. Some folks say they've watched it 20 times + !!
My grandfather fought in the Black Watch in WW2,he was English as am I but I love Scotland & all she has to offer,I'm forever drawn back North of the Border..amazing place definitely the best place in the WORLD!!
You did an absolutely wonderful job of capturing the parade and the beautiful city. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'll never see it in person so it means a lot.
Being a Welshman and I am very proud of our lads. I think also the Welsh guards are very brave to take on 4,000 Zulu warriors and come out of it in one piece. 11 VC was award for their bravery above the call of duty. I salute our Scottish brothers.
I love bagpipes and drums. They always make me cry, especially Scotland the Brave...I grew up in the Texas Hill Country, the daughter of a strong McGregor woman...since we had no neighbors, we could play music as loud as we wanted. She had so many CD's of Scottish marches, drums and pipes, so she would put them on full blast and wake us up with that every weekend, usually with some kind of amazing breakfast...bacon, fried eggs sunny side up, piping hot biscuits fresh out of the oven in a cast-iron pan, honey butter, Texas peach preserves from our own peach tree, orange juice...then we'd go work in the garden and pull weeds, go swimming, cut firewood for the winter, take care of the horses and help dad fix various things...and while all of that was going on, bagpipes were playing in the background until about noon...but then she'd switch it to Cher, Phil Collins, or whatever rock n roll she felt like listening to. Those were the days... :)
My name is Adamson, there are lots of us in Edinburgh. I am an American from Georgia. Much of the American south was settled by Scots. Our bloodlines are still there today. We share the same spirit as fighting men and are proud to call ourselves Scots. We still fight together as one. A display like this brings a tear to my eye.
It's true. I'm from Louisiana, but a significant part of my ancestry is of Scottish descent. Some people forget, but many remember and love to attend Scottish and Celtic festivals in the U.S. and embrace each other like family. It does bring tears to the eyes.
I'm English Scots and I am an American from Tennessee. Our state was settled by the English/Scots/Irish. I am proud to be a Scot from Clan Buchanan specifically the Watsons.
I'm from California. What the hell went wrong out here? Vast majority of the nice people out here are from somewhere else. Fighting spirit? What's that? Lived in NW Louisiana for three years, the people were AWESOME, welcomed a left coaster with open arms. I love the south. God bless these people. Would love to visit there someday.
@zsazsa zsazsa You are so right, ............People have now got used to being very careful with what they say in case it is racist or not PC.! and carry on blindingly. It is a disaster waiting to happen!!!!.
Sue Wilson so true. These men are the epitome of smartness, discipline and how a real man should look not rag tag drug dealing scumbags and thieves which is the norm in London right now. Bring back conscription I say. Proud and smart warriors.
Which would you rather have? A Taliban fighter or one of these buggers coming at you bayonet drawn? I know my bleeding choice. My utmost respect to the Scottish armed forces. Awsome. Respect lads and laddettes. Keep the faith my brethren.
I'm American and have never seen the Black Watch march. Utterly and unreservedly magnificent. In addition, have never seen Edinburgh. The old buildings, there's something magical about them with the most haunting feeling of deja vu I've ever had, however unlikely since almost all my ancestors are from Italy. Well done !!
If you're old enough to remember JFK's funeral you may have unwittingly seen the Black Watch Pipes and Drums band which took part in his funeral. They were touring the U.S. at the time, and had played for the President. After his death, his wife Jackie requested that they take part in the Cortege as he had enjoyed their playing so much. I think there's a brief video somewhere on RUclips which captured the band.
I was born and brought up in Auld Reekie (Edinburgh) watching the soldiers march to the pipes and drums from the Castle to the Palace was a frequent sight when I was a laddie and as Edinburgh as the fog, the east wind, the chip sauce, a pint of heavy or a Jambos vs Hibees... Not that the current regime in holyrood have any patience with such base pleasures.. Their far too busy enforcing thought crime!
Loved reading your comments and really enjoyed your historical perspective on past and more recent events involving you Scots, other Britons, and your neighbors on the continent, including your more distant relatives located down under. As a yank whose had the opportunity to have spent time in Scotland and England,I wish to mention that I'm really glad the US has had the benefit and privilege of having you fire breathing Scots as allies for quite some time now (since 1820 or so, as I recon). Let us remain as such for good. Cheers!
Magnificent. I've seen Soviet, and Nazi military parades as many have, which, needles to say try to convey strength through display of arms, but neither can compare with this. This surpasses both. Absolutely splendid. The bagpipes, drums, and uniforms, surpass all. You all in the UK should feel very proud.
As a ex military man of 24 years I have to say that the Scots are the best military band you will ever hear, when you hear the sound of the pipes you can understand why it instills such pride ,strength, and fighting spirit into the troops. This from a Englishman.
there's something about military displays and bagpipes that gives me goose pimples,As an Englishman, I have to say Scots are the bravest bastards in the whole of the UK,
My Grandfather was in the Royal Sots. he died in WW1 when my Dad was 5 and his brother was 2.. I am so proud of him,]. He is buried in Lahana War Cemetery in Greece.. I wish I could go there to pay my respects to him but I am getting old and in Australia.. He is my hero. I have the medallion my Grandmother was given with his name cast on it John McMillan...I think they were called Dead man's penny...............:(
Thank you for your post , We were in Edinburgh at the Indigo down town across from the festival! 8/10 thru 8/14 we did get to see The Tattoo. I have 2 brothers that are Retired US Marine Corps, Colonels We were all there! 6 of our 8 siblings were there. Our father was Born and Raised in Glasgow,! We had an Amazing time can’t wait to come back again......thanks for the memories😘
I have watched this many times and every time I am thrilled to hear the march! Much Much respect to the men of the Black Watch Guard. They look very Proud and rightfully so.
Wonder if you tell your fellow NI brothers and sisters that while the UK government continues to destroy both our countries 🤔 aye, "better together" my arse.
Saw this band in New Orleans in the late 1950's as a child Absolutely the most thrilling band I have had the pleasure of watching. I grew up listening to bagpipes since my father was from Scotland.
In high school I was in the band. I also played in two youth bands marching in local parades. In 1964 I got a chance to see the Black Watch at the LA Sports Arena and was blown away. I still get goose bumps when I hear them once or see the on videos.
This sure does lift the spirits. Being an Englishman who served in the Scots Guards for five years, i,d like to think i,m an honourary jock. Whenever i hear the bagpipes i,m drawn to the like a moth to a flame. Some of these tunes are used by the Scots Guards and marching behind them playing makes you march two inches taller.Long live the jocks.
Nothing but love and respect for my Scottish counterparts. Proud to have served with them in the Household Division. All banter aside these boys really were “Second to none”
Sorry, I just have say something here. I'm from the U.S. I love the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch. And just think about it, the Black Watch has been one of the most feared military units for hundreds of years. Put yourself in the mind of the enemy back then. Watching these cats coming at you in those uniforms with the Pipes and Drums in full song? To say it would have been unnerving would be an understatement. Knowing you were about to engage the best in the world and they were announcing their arrival on the field and coming straight at you is not a place where I think I'd have wanted to be.
That's why the Black Watch is allowed to wear a red hackle on all headgear, as a statement of their bravery and battle prowess. Look at it this way, if you can wear red in combat these days, you've reached a level of badass rarely seen.
I am a proud Brit ( English) with nary a drop of Scots blood in my veins but Lord how I love the pipes . I love the pipes, kilts, and all things connected with the Scots Battalians.

I’ve viewed this numerous times and can imagine that drum cadence scaring the Hell out of the enemy back in the day. It’s incredible. Cheers from New York.
I love this video, I love pipes and drums, and I have loved them since I was a little boy. I have a special love for Scotland. It has to be said, ni one does pageantry like The British Isles.

“The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let’s Get the Bastards.” They don’t have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years. The French Government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France’s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability. The Italians have increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.” The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.” Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels. The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy. The Australians, meanwhile, have raised their security level from “No worries” to “She’ll be right, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we’ll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is canceled.” So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.”
LOL Politically incorrect of course..........but funny as hell.(Which was invaded by Scotland years ago but we have not told anyone yet.........nice fire to enjoy.
This is without a doubt one of the most entertaining and insightfull explanations of these countries and their penchant for understating serious problems I've ever seen. So far to me anyway the Scots are the only ones who have the right idea.
Thanks Jim your videos are wonderful, always loved the Scots Regiments - Argylls were here in Canterbury for years - oops i should say 5 Scots - we miss them. Lots of Kent girls married them and families and friends were made. Grew fond of bagpipes & swinging kilts! Love all your stuff - stirs the soul.😁

Erm before they were brought into the British regimental system they were an intimidating but disorganized rabble. Once they joined they were honed into a proper disciplined fighting force.
My son did a tour of Afghanistan with 8/9RAR, putting his life on the line to defend not just Australia from terrorism, but to help give a better life to Afghans, little did he realise on his return, his march in parade through the streets was cancelled so not to "offend" Muslims, it seems while he was fighting the government was busy importing that same enemy. Steadily our history and culture are being sold out by the leftists, the purpose to destroy our will to resist, a nation that believes in nothing, has nothing to fight for. “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” Winston Churchill.

Allthough I am Dutch I am proud to be able to say that there are several Scotsmen in my ancestry and they were soldiers too. Their family name was Stuart.
G. Geurtsen:-- "Stuart" is the French spelling for the Scots/English "Stewart". "The Royal Stewart" monarchy elevated "The House of Hanover" from a principality in Germany to become the British "Royal House of Hanover". It gives Elizabeth II her royal status. She is descended from the Scots/German "Sophia of Hanover".
the name stewart or stuart derives from the steward of robert the bruce, one of whom married into the bruces family and whos descendants eventually necame king of scots, they eventually became heir to the throne of england when elizabeth the 1st of england died childless, most of the stewart/stuart family were c+nts

They were no friends of the Highlanders in general, outside their own clans
The
whole current 'Highland Dress' stems from the regimental military dress
of the British Army which developed as Britain moved ahead from the
Industrial revolution and expanding its empire..
Without our
nation being united, and left bickering among ourselves as the
Industrial Revolution built, and developed elsewhere, and no Empire, we
would have remained as insignificant as we appear on the world map. And
that is where we will finish up if some here can't see further than their nose.
Whenever I am feeling a bit down, I put on the pipes here and feel energized just watching along.
"Ladies from Hell"

The blood boils. Without a doubt, the greatest military music ever created. No wonder that it's "Scotland the Brave".
braw, sounds like heaven
It's a shame there were no neighbours for your mum to educate musically :)
Beut beautiful music
I'm English Scots and I am an American from Tennessee. Our state was settled by the English/Scots/Irish. I am proud to be a Scot from Clan Buchanan specifically the Watsons.
I'm from California. What the hell went wrong out here? Vast majority of the nice people out here are from somewhere else. Fighting spirit? What's that? Lived in NW Louisiana for three years, the people were AWESOME, welcomed a left coaster with open arms. I love the south. God bless these people. Would love to visit there someday.

Jimserac - I agree as a Russian-American former US Army. This is awesome.
Rod Buchan - I never saw JFK’s funeral, having been drafted into the US Army the day he was assassinated. No TV in the barracks.
Loved reading your comments and really enjoyed your historical perspective on past and more recent
events involving you Scots, other Britons, and your neighbors on the continent, including your more distant relatives located down under. As a yank whose had the opportunity to have spent time in Scotland and England,I wish to mention that I'm really glad the US has had the benefit and privilege of having you fire breathing Scots as allies for quite some time now (since 1820 or so, as I recon).
Let us remain as such for good.
Cheers!
As an englishman i'm so proud to call the scots our brothers in arms and i hope the recent tension can be resolved.
It is some sacred and mystic gift the Scotts got, proudness and steadiness.
This was absolutely AWESOME to watch!! I could watch this all day! The cameraman did a great job walking all that way without tripping too.
As a ex military man of 24 years I have to say that the Scots are the best military band you will ever hear, when you hear the sound of the pipes you can understand why it instills such pride ,strength, and fighting spirit into the troops. This from a Englishman.

I would have thought once the enemy heard the bagpipes they would have thought, "Mates we're Fooked!"
Yea, you're right about that. Now it's all about being as invisible as you can make yourself. Thanks for the info. I learned something I didn't know.

“The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.”
The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.
The Italians have increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.”
The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.”
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.
"Mildly Amusing"

My son did a tour of Afghanistan with 8/9RAR, putting his life on the line to defend not just Australia from terrorism, but to help give a better life to Afghans, little did he realise on his return, his march in parade through the streets was cancelled so not to "offend" Muslims, it seems while he was fighting the government was busy importing that same enemy. if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may
come
to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you
and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse
case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it
is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

We though Irish, but she was THICK! Because we ran Angus out there to Kansas and Missouri. and That's why the Woman from Kansas said, "American African". So as not to insult/or be confused with African American. So the job's still OPEN! I marched US Navy and this pace is BUFF!
F *ing incredible
Im American but i would glady follow you blokes through gates of hell and back !
Thanks Jim for some Fantastic Camerawork - Capturing the real power of the pipes and Drums. Amazing
