Took the "One per customer" bottle of Buffalo Trace to the register and the guy said try the Travelers,....It's Buffalo trace too" so I put the Trace back and yes,....I got the Travelers blended canadian mist...,.....I won't get fooled again!
Canadian mist 😆
Had this sitting next to a 1.75 of Trace for $54. I left the travelers on the shelf.
Dang, that clerk/owner clowned you. Definitely don't take their advice again
I never listen to the clerks unless I know them. I've been disappointed more often than not. There are a few stores I frequent on a weekly basis and they provide great recommendations... because they know they'll see me again.
You could have bought both. They were actually limiting to 12 bottles last I was there, things like ER, EHT smb obviously not included, but BT and travelers definitely were.
Honest review! Rather have Elijah Craig sm batch, Knob Creek 9, Russell’s 10yr, Eagle Rare, 1792 sm batch, 4 Roses sm batch, WT 101, Buffalo Trace, Jack Daniels barrel select, OF 1920, Michters, and on and on! All of these I can get for 45.00 bucks and under!!!
I still laugh at the review- was it Matt’s? - that said the map is in there to help you find the flavor in the bottle. 🤣
Russell's 10yr is 34.99
I’m not a fan. I think it should have been called Travesty. I find it hard to believe it took 40 tries to come up of this
Can you imagine how bad the other 39 were that this one was the choice? LOL
Chris Stapleton “picked” blend 40. But he’s sober. So Maybe they just asked him to pick a number between 1 and 50?
Could have picked it off the nose alone maybe but not sure
I’m convinced this is really just Kentucky Gentleman that rested in a barrel for a few months. It’s only slightly better. A coworker and I tried them side by side. Travesty has a little more flavor and better color. Both gross.
I've been taught two things: to never trust a skinny cook and never to trust someone who endorses a liquor when they don't drink themselves
One of the chain stores by me is selling it for $33. Still more than it's worth.
Did Sean just say it has a maple slyruple note on it?
In the nose yes. That's about where all the good parts end
Im much more of a wine guy and whiskey doesn't seem to like me too much, but you 2 are incredible to listen to. Keep up the great work!
I agree with both of you when I first tried it. I got that heavy corn taste luckily for me. I paid $39. And I did not pay anything close to secondary. Thank god because on the palate it was not tasteful
If it was $15 max id buy it to try. $40 is a joke for barton and canadian light whiskey, but these are definitely meant for the type of people who think crown royal is high end for some reason and like chris stapleton. Tennessee whiskey was a cover btw. Also sazerac owns multiple canadian whiskey brands. Canadian mist, seagrams vo, rich and rare, caribou crossing and legacy are all sazerac
It's a blend of the barrels that weren't good enough for Very Old Barton and R&R/Rich & Rare Canadian. Maybe. 😂
Congratulations Sean & Gabby .... I'd say something about the Traveler...but what was that Momma used to say... If you can't say something nice..... well you get the Idea.. Have a Great Day Everyone, Cheers 🥃🥃🥃🥃
I guess I'm the odd ball cuz I LOVE IT... I got it for $33 at Costco in my area
That is a good review. Thank you.👍
Glad I got mine for $25. Thanks for the discount Binny's.
Thankfully I picked this up for $34 at costco. My first thoughts were " if there is a pallet of bt sitting at a costco I'm skeptical" terrible stuff will save for a mixer or something
I hope the distributor remembers how freakin cool and understanding you guys were about this criminal misallocation. Excited for the EHT!!
this is on the shelf at the local walmart for $40 and has yet to shift the endcap after 4ish weeks
I bought it at $40. I thought it was ok. I’ve got plenty of better bottles on the shelf, but I don’t regret buying it.
I tried this next to some Benchmark Top Floor and they were pretty darn similar.
Saw it at Walmart 3 weeks in a row. 3 cases stacked on top of each other - someone finally bought one of the bottles this week. (Not kidding!)
That would be a cool blind with Benchmark (not full proof), green river and this one.
Their are six cases of this sitting on the floor up front at my Kroger. Not moving at all. At least it is priced at Forty.
White Label Bardstown High Rye Orogin is with in $3 to $4 dollars. Never a thought to buy this
Might be the best you can get for the price. Love the white label origin.
I think Stapleton walked that back. Said it was out of context. He's cut back on his drinking, but apparently is also very proud of his extensive whiskey collection.
Tried this next too ancient age 10, tastes real similar.
6:10 it’s $20 now (May 2024) at Walmart
I've seen one positive review of this, from Uproxx, which I guess is a testament to their trustworthiness (the guy who seems to write the majority of their whiskey reviews is not a master of prose, either - "Cinnamon next to a lush bed of vanilla next to a whisper of oak next to next to next to next to blah blah blah blah"). Seems like most people with taste buds consider this a miss.
Uproxx gives everything a positive review
Yeah those Uproxx descriptors are head scratchers sometimes, it's the kind of extra I was used to seeing in wine reviews not whiskey. The worst they'll say is that a whiskey is just a mixer, not to bother with drinking neat.
I've got a bottle .. it's ok ... Should be a 20ish dollar bottle imo. Glad I got it at MSRP instead of secondary.
This bottle drives me crazy. I still see people in groups hunting for it for some reason. I can think of a dozen bottles for half the price that are significantly better.
Some people are like "it's a good mixer." And I could think of 50 cheaper mixers that would work just as well, if not better.
It just doesn't have a good place in the market in my opinion, except for the BT chasers who see the name on the bottle and freak out about it.
They should have just put Buffalo Trace in the Traveler bottle!!
They call the Canadian equivalent to light whiskey base whiskey
It's a 4-year old Canadian whiskey blended with no more than 20% bourbon (probably from Barton 1792)... priced at $40, it's a sure fire way to peel 🥔 off their 💵
Old forester 86 and 100 over this
I am so glad you didn’t sugar-coat that review.
I would love for you guys to review Quest’s End whisky. It’s by Matthew Lillard and screenwriter Justin Ware and co-founder of Blue Run Tim Sarapani. I want to know if it’s any good since I know how much of a Blue Run fan Dan is, I also want to see Dan drink a D&D inspired whisky. 😂
Got mine for $32. Haven't opened it yet.
I hope someone likes this, …to get it off the shelf and make room for something/anything better that i do like. I’m thinking they took all the bad Caribou Crossing, mixed it with something else out of the BT distillery and called it “good”?
A friend couldn't resist and bought a bottle... we all tried it on its own and it was pure meh. We then had WT101 to compare it against a cheap whiskey we know we like and it was night and day. There is no price point where this whiskey is good. The only thing I can think is that a lot of people who drink whisky in cocktails or as a shot at the bar will try this, maybe even neat and think it's not too bad... maybe it's a gateway whiskey for people who have never considered drinking 101 or Buffalo Trace neat? Maybe? That's the only silver lining I can see from this.
Reminds me of Canadian Rye whiskey -- and with it being Sazerac distillate that's probably what it is. The amount of people that think this is bourbon is mind blowing.
My local Costco has bottles for 31 bucks, and they’re not moving. The 1.75 of Knob Creek for 42 bucks is a way better value.
Tried it with BT and 1792. It's not bad but would rather BT and 1792. 🥃 Cheers
WOO HOO
Paid $30 at Total Wine & More. It’s not bad at that price point.
Hey guys...15 other channels have already done this review and they all say Chris is sober. That isn't true. He's said he cut back. He has a wall of Bourbon in his home. He said to call him sober would be a disservice to actual sober people. So most likely he took a Dry January type of break and some reporter said he went sober.
Rather have anything other than this! Tasted from a friend’s bottle….thank God!
YUP!!!! You’ll get a like literally just cuz of Sean at the end lol priceless🤣
It’s not bad. But everyone who is saying it is is t wrong. We just like a lot more. My wife who like crown and hates bourbon loved this
I'm partial to the theory that it's some Early Times Barton distillate.
Benchmark vs Traveler Blind please!!!
So many better options for cheaper. Personally I’d take WT101, KC9, 1792SB, or even Buffalo Trace (all at retail).
Glad to have in my collection but it’s average or below avg for me. Not terrible for $39 but nothing I’d talk or share with anyone or buy again. Agree it’s cool they didnt put out a high price but maybe they knew they couldn’t. FYI, should note that Stapleton did not say he was completely sober. He’s just focused on drinking a lot less and he also said when you walk in his house the first thing you’ll see is about 200 whiskey bottles.
Stapleton is not sober. He did a interview about this and stated he drinks but does not abuse it anymore. Word is, it's a blend of Canadian whiskey and Barton 1792.
Not my favorite drink but not as bad as they say. Grab a bottle and hold on to it. In 15 yrs it will be worth a pretty penny. If you are at a college tailgate you can also give it to some nice ladies who want a bourbon. They'll appreciate the story behind it and you'll still have your Woodford.
I think traveler is so watery it still counts as water for sober living folks.
he thought this was clever 😆
I know it’s not good when my bottle shop has it two for 70 here in California
After all, why buy one when you can buy two for twice the price.
I see this sitting and not moving on shelves already
It a budget whiskey for mixing up for cocktails
Dan probably didn't hate the Kirkland bottles, but had super high expectations so even though it was average/mediocre it had alot of disappointment to go with it.
Imagine buying this over Green River's offerings.
This stuff is available absolutely everywhere, and for never more than MSRP at even the dustiest of museums, meaning I don't trust it one bit.
First time I smelled and tasted it all I can think of was a twizzler
It’s at my Costco for $30. I’m not sure I want to pay that much
This shit is siting on every shelf in Chicagoland. I had a sample, it was good. Crushable, drink it all day
I bet the secondary market is going to die on this one. At least in Illinois, I can find this anywhere and its usually $30-35.
It makes sense that if Mr Stapleton doesn’t really drink much anymore, that he would select a whiskey with an apparently great nose and a nondescript flavor. Aromas are a big part of the equation.
I'd take Benchmark 8 over this any day. Fortunately got a sample before I bought one. They're sitting on shelves in NC now that the FOMO is gone.
I threw an Aburana Stave in my bottle for 36 hours and now it is drinkable, but still sux!
A sober celebrity being used to market a whiskey always throws me off. I have the same reaction to Blackened. I know not the whole band is sober, but they lean so heavily on their Metallica connection despite Kirk Hammett being sober and James Hetfield being very open about his repeated and continued struggles with alcohol. It just feels very weird to me.
Saw this at Meijer for $40. We passed on it.
It’s not very good, but also Chris Stapleton never said he was sober. He said he’s had issues with drinking but never said he stopped.
I think BT made a large miscalculation with this release. There's so much of sitting around and they can't move it.
Sitting on the shelves here in WI pretty much everywhere, sub $40, pass
I found it for under $40, I thought it was okay for that.
We finish each other’s sentandwiches
America's answer to Proper 12
My theory. Blend of Kentucky Gentlemen, Kentucky Tavern, and Buffalo Trace bourbon. Ok, not great.
I thought it was ethanol heavy, not good
I'm sorry, when I can get Rare Breed for $46, there is no way I am paying $40 for this.
Title is misspelled. They call it "Traveller" not "Traveler" (even though the latter is technically correct.
Its spelled that way on his album....also conspiracy theory Weller travel weller traveller
Barton 1792 and Canadian Light Whiskey blend.
spent $32 for this here in MA. Not disappointed
Love Stapleton's music 🎵 the whiskey not so much I get a artificial vanilla taste in it 😐☹️🥃thankfully I paid $36 only
It's tater juice, would be a good $20 pour...not $40. Also, Chris isn't "sober", he has significantly reduced his drinking habits though. He clarified his misconstrued comments recently.
The price for this is actually $30.
Drain pour tater juice! 😂
Not a bourbon but a good whiskey.
In a few interviews Chris Stapleton has clarified he isn’t sober, just drinks far less then he used to.
Correct. I received a statement from Sazerac backing this up. He still drinks whiskey.
I've never smelled any of this that they smell on anything, smells like whiskey
First!
Just to clarify, Chris Stapleton isn’t sober. He has cut back on his drinking, from his early 20s party animal problematic levels, to now where he is as a 45 year old husband and father. But he still drinks! He put out a statement cuz there was some confusion from people on it. Love the channel!
Maybe, but it sure seems more like damage control to me. He didn't dispute the tons of stories published about his decision to get sober until his whiskey came out several months later and he started feeling the heat.
@@robcd7112 to each their own I guess. Not sure that’s the way I see it but I also certainly don’t know him to be able to tell you that lol. It’s certainly possible
@@mattkoch8363 Well I said seems like because I don't know either. The timing just wasn't good and makes it questionable to me. Anyway, I'm a Chris Stapleton fan so I'd rather your version be right.
@@robcd7112for sure, the timing does seem weird. My reasoning is something along the lines of “if everyone is calling me sober after I had an interview saying I cut back on drinking that doesn’t really damage my image” up until the point you release your own whiskey and then it does. I’m also a Stapleton fan, though I haven’t had Traveller so I can’t speak on that front haha!
@@robcd7112 I can see where all the confusion comes from. All the recent news stories about Stapleton being sober are sourced from this GQ article from October of last year. From the article: [“The Bottom” is a monologue of alcoholic self-delusion. If you were to generate a word cloud of Stapleton lyrics, whiskey would loom large. His preshow ritual once involved a shot of tequila. Now, he performs exercises prescribed by a voice coach and has been all but sober for several years. “I didn’t have to go to rehab, but from a 45-year-old-man health perspective, a doctor’s gonna look at me and go, ‘Hey, man, probably cut out the drinking,’ and I’d be like, ‘Okay, cool.’ ”] So he cut back on drinking but didn't actually become sober, GQ prints he's "all but sober" and every other news outlet says "Chris Stapleton is sober" and he doesn't say mum to correct anyone until his celebrity whiskey gets released and he's forced to clarify. Geez, if I was an on-the-fence consumer wondering if I should buy this bottle, I certainly wouldn't want to now.
I saw it on sale for 27.99 and didn't even buy it, lol
So glad I found a bottle for $31.49 , didn't feel so bad for spitting it out.
I bought it for the bottle, gonna drink it all, peel the front label off and make it an infinity bottle with the map in the back.. Its worth the 40 just to try it.
There are so many $40 and under bottles that are solid, no reason to grab this!
I had a sip, said yeah that was fine, and put it in my closet. Haven’t touched it since. Been about a month or so now.
FYI Stapleton isnt sober just doesnt drink like he use to. He supposedly has a whiskey room in his house.
I wish celebrity’s would release milks
He’s does drink and has a hugh collection but just doesn’t drink a lot.
