"SHIELD stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Now what does that tell you?"
"It tells me someone really wanted our name to spell SHIELD."
Well, at least it's better than "Strategic Homeland Intervention Team"
Marvel has done worse. Norman Osborn created HAMMER, which has no known meaning.
in the comics the acronym used to be different i think they changed it like 3 times to get the best one so you know its defiantly a backronim

Dammit! I knew I should have scrolled through the comments before making a redundant comment.
A FINGeR bang, so to speak.
Be honest. It would be "how I FINGeRed Nemesis to death".
What about the original Japanese version tho?
In other words, you gave Nemesis the FINGeR.

That NICOLE IS DEAD one is actually really clever. How many people do you think paid enough attention to notice that?
Probably about the same amount of people who noticed the phrase spelt out by Young Justice: Outsiders episode titles.
@@PKMNwater Had to look that one up. Nice!
@@PKMNwater can you explain it for those of us who want to know, but aren't emotionally invested enough to look it up?
The Acronym in the third one was pretty good too. I won't spoil it here for those who want to look it up.
You should check out The Owl House (...don't ask). Every first letter of an episode always spells out something really important for the season.
Example: the first season's eps spell out "A WITCH LOSES A TRUE WAY".

Apparently all the pop culture references in Ace Attorney actually go in places where there was a pun, and the localizers couldn't find an equivalent English pun. So instead you get the weirdest and dated jokes.

How luke read UR-DED without bursting into the "you are dead" song is beyond me.
I know! As soon as I heard "You are dead" the song popped in my head immediately. I blame Andy.

2 Peter 3:10-11 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,/Inspiration+ This passage in Peter shows up nicely an idea that has been raised many times by Christ before, that the true value of a man is measured not by what he has, but by what he may do without. When all is burned up, when all possessions and vainglories are dissolved, when all but our body remains, who amongst us can truly claim to be able find comfort only in God? Who amongst us, could claim still, to be able to stand before the Lord, thankful and glad? The question thrown up by Peter is not a command to cast off our worldly goods and comfort, but rather it is a challenge to Christians, to challenge us to look within ourselves and ask who we truly are, and what is truly necessary in front of our Lord./Prayer+ Lord I stand before you, cleansed of all possessions. Naked I pray Lord, that my soul still remains pure and worthy of your paradise. Show me strength in your mercy, and trust in your word as the only everlasting truth into the beyond. Have faith in me, as I continue to long for thee beyond all earthly effects, riches and property. I ask this in the name of our Lord who art in Heaven, Amen.

Jill's last line should have been, "You want STARS? I'll give you STARS!" which they oddly used right at the beginning.
R3make made enough affronts to the original, I'd say using her iconic phrase at such a random point was maybe the worst one.
As a games programmer myself I can say, that at least the "MARIO"-acronym is pretty well made. Mathematics are the most valuable thing in grafical programming. The name of the company is always fine to put into a designation. Rotation is technically one of the most important things in a 3D-work spaces, so this is also fine. And Input/Output is basically the one thing a chip does, so it's perfect.
@The Gaming Meta If you work at an acronym backwards you have to force a little bit. I just said, that in this case it was pretty well made.
@@Drako999x Do you mean like the episode names in Codename kids next door?
@@JaelinBezel Unfortunatly I don't know what that is.
@@Drako999x it’s a cartoon show where kids are secret agent types and every episode and gadget and vehicle has an acronym name that that describes it in more ways than one.
@@JaelinBezel Seems like it is pretty similar.
Ace Attorney doesn't actually have much in the way of Japanese legal terminology. Shu Takumi did zero research. What it is chock full of is puns, which are much harder to translate. Which is why there's so much referenational humor. Sometimes there was a difference reference in that part of the script, but most of the time it was a pun that couldn't be translated nor could the localizers think of an apporiate one to go in that spot.
I don't know about the history of it's development, but I do know the translation was handled very well. It seems they took the spirit and feel of the game to heart, rather than using technical, direct translation which would ruin the humor. Despite the silliness about it taking place in California, Japan, the pop culture and name puns are clever and entertaining.
A punderstorm?!
@@ARUCARDFTEPES This. I always felt Ace Attorney felt surprisingly comfortable in English. Something always feel funnily off in localizations usually.

I think it was actually a Devil May Cry reference.
@@Jebbtube Probably both. Why have one joke/reference when you can have two?
@@robertbeisert3315 Yeah, pretty sure it's a double reference. Why wouldn't it be? It's the name of Vergil and Dante's father, and the name of Sparda's sword, and a reference to 300, at the same time. Kind of clever. There's also a Ghost In The Shell reference right there too.

For all the people saying SPARDA is not a 300 reference, it's a DMC reference. Watch the text of the game in that segment
This is madness
No, this is SPARDA
It's both. I don't think it can be more clear that 300 was 100% part of the backronym
The spelling gives it away, too because the character from DMC's name is "Sparda" whereas in the movie 300 the city is called "Sparta." Slightly different spellings.
Yeah, at least someone was paying enough attention to notice that the reference is Sparda, Dante and Vergil's father, not 300, lolz.
Im gonna pretend you 2 are joking and move on with my life

@@minireaperYTThen explain why the character says "This is madness"
I can't still wrap my mind of how they misused Jill's iconic line from the original in the remake, the timing wasn't right when they used it (using it while running away from it) and blasting Nemesis doesn't feel as epic without it. "Want stars? I'll give you stars..."

gotta love DE going along with our sh*t sometimes
Star Trek Online has the DOMINO: The Denorios Offense Matrix and Invader Neutralization Overdrive.
The SPARDA is also a reference to Devil May Cry, which is also a Capcom-owned IP.
Exactly what I was thinking. While it is a reference to 300, yeah I'm almost surprised more people don't catch that it's a reference to the name of Vergil and Dante's father's name, Sparda. There's also a reference to Ghost In The Shell too; that Nick makes while talking to Lisa Basil. Saying to himself that, quote: "She's human?!? She seems more like a ghost in a shell". Not as clever as the Sparda reference, but it makes me chuckle a little every time I play that case, so it's not bad. And a DMC reference in an Ace Attorney game is pretty cool, as a fan of both series, and I think that they're 2 of Capcom's best I.P's, alongside RE.
*I have found my people!* Seriously I was hoping I wasn't the only person who noticed that. The spelling is a DEAD GIVEAWAY. But unfortunately, from what I can tell, the Oxbox team doesn't seem have much love for the series, so the reference probably went totally of their heads along with most people.
It was what my initial thought was.
Considering the name of the city is Sparta with a T.
No. Its a reference to Sparda-banken the spelling is a dead giveaway.
THIS~! I thought this right away and came into comments for this very reason!!
Yes we need more videos with Ellen getting mad about stupid acronyms 😂
Oooooo Gottfried's Omni-opening Grimoire and Defensive Regulatory Magicon in Witcher 3
In Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, the first letter of each level name spells out CROWNED. In Triple Deluxe they do this again spelling FLOWERED, and one final time in Planet Robobot where it spells PROGRAM.
Star Allies named each level individually, so the gimmick doesn’t apply over the whole game, but they did have the levels in World 2 spell out FRIEND.
In Kirby's Adventure, the level names spell out ROYGBIV (well, actually it's VIBGYOR but most people are familiar with the other way around), in Kirby Canvas Curse, the level names spell out RAINBOW.
It's pretty common with this series...
@@HylianFox3 I knew about Adventure, but it’s not really a “word” per se. It’s like an acronym that spells out another acronym, which is why I didn’t mention it.
Didn’t know about Canvas Curse, though, mainly because that’s one of the few I haven’t played.
It hasn't been released yet but Metroid Dread is going to have an enemy called E.M.M.I which stands for Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifier.
You know, if there is ever going to be another one of these videos, I really hope that the first letters of the words in the title will also form an acronym :P
Me: Why is Ellen explaining "This is Sparta?"
Ellen: Why am I explaining this?
Me: Ah.
And here my stupid ass was thinking SPARDA was just a reference to Devil May Cry, I thought it made sense at the time, I mean they were both games published by Capcom
You were probably right on both accounts. Oxbox isn't too familiar with the DMC games plot from what I can tell, so they probably don't know that.
I scrolled thought the comments looking for someone who said this so I can up vote and hopefully oxbox sees it.

SPARDA probably is also a reference to Capcom's Devil May Cry series, otherwise it wouldn't have opted for that spelling.
