Kinda gettin tired of the scarecrow thing in arkham asylum being mentioned.
No love for Curse of Monkey Island? That game over was so convincing that repeating it resulted in Stan S. Stanman paying out the life insurance policy.
They could include Okami and Bayonetta! Also Bravely Second has a similar-if-not-quite moment (the final boss forces you to delete your own save file to stop you interfering in its plans).
The Curse of Monkey Island has a hilarious moment where, after faking his own death (it's a long story), protagonist Guybrush Threepwood awakens locked inside a casket in a darkened crypt. The game proceeds to display the words "The End", a fake score of 0 out of a possible 800, and then scrolls a short blurb of credits, all to Guybrush's annoyance.
When Dead Space 2 started to roll credits at the end and you were still trapped wherever, I thought that was the best example of a fake game over / ending.

What about “Star Wars: Fallen Order”? Mid way though the game, you encounter a bounty hunter you are forced to fight, and no matter how good you are, he/she/it knocks you unconscious, and prompting a “reawaken” screen (aka, you died). But you “reawaken”, you literally reawake in an unknown location, and fight your way out in an arena

I love J:FO, but it has its problems. I think the biggest is that it is actually a cross between a 3D Metroidvania and a Sekisoulsborne game--but *unlike* Bloodborne especially but all the Fromsoft games in general, it doesn't do as good a job of teaching you how to actually play the game cleverly. I brute forced my way through the game without trouble, it was great! ... And then the second to last boss, suddenly I couldn't win at *all* and had to turn it down to story mode--not even easy, *story mode*--to beat it. Whooops. If you are already good at Sekisoulsborne games you will probably be okay, but I haven't played them and man did it hurt.
Borderlands 3 fake-out cliffhanger. The Calypso Twins bury our heroes beneath a ton of rubble. The game logo appears on the screen, followed by "To be continued in..." and the number 4, clearly setting up a fourth game. But then, with a countdown beep, the 4 becomes a 3, the 3 becomes a 2, the 2... well, you get the idea. The countdown concludes, the heroes escape the rubble and their journey continues.
I was pretty sick of the writing in that game, so when I got to that I basically thought "okay, fine, at least we're done here". I was actually disappointed when the game went on.
Borderlands 3 Had you crushed beneath the telekineticly-thrown rubble of an Eridian ruin, only for the obnoxious girl to gain foretold siren powers and remove the debris.
I'm surprised OMORI wasn't on this list. In the goodest ending it throws a fake game over at you which is mildly different from the normal game over, and asks if you wish to continue. Saying no gives you the bad ending, so continuing it is.

just shape and beats.... huh... yeah thats why I like to watch such "top#" videos, cause sometimes you discover games you have not even heard of or never though to give a try, isn't that right bloodborne? :3
also in this regard, thanks for putting lesser known examples on this list. Kinda gettin tired of the scarecrow thing in arkham asylum being mentioned.
Lol they did that one in an older video AND people still ask why it isn't on this list 😂 Like you already know it, it's time for lesser known entries.
@@Rodrigo-ei4ht exactly. You want to keep these list interesting and not just repeat crap everyone have heard over and over XD
I am SHOCKED Dead Space 2 was not mentioned
“Is he a king or a pirate?”
Luffy from One Piece: EXCUSE YOU
Just gets more confusing in DKC2, where Captain K.Rool is in a castle...
@@theanthropologuy7775 I think he always plays the role of the next game
No love for Curse of Monkey Island? That game over was so convincing that repeating it resulted in Stan S. Stanman paying out the life insurance policy.
What about Borderlands 1. The Dr ned DLC ending after you defeat him then he slices the credits
That one was in a previous video
They could include Okami and Bayonetta! Also Bravely Second has a similar-if-not-quite moment (the final boss forces you to delete your own save file to stop you interfering in its plans).
The Curse of Monkey Island has a hilarious moment where, after faking his own death (it's a long story), protagonist Guybrush Threepwood awakens locked inside a casket in a darkened crypt. The game proceeds to display the words "The End", a fake score of 0 out of a possible 800, and then scrolls a short blurb of credits, all to Guybrush's annoyance.
Thank you. I thought I was the only one who thought this one was missing.
When Dead Space 2 started to roll credits at the end and you were still trapped wherever, I thought that was the best example of a fake game over / ending.
Golden sun, the game starts you off with a game over that I thought was real
I love that moment! That's an impressive way to say "ok, tutorial is over".
Also I love that the game has a super-early game over if you refuse to accept the mission.
I’m incredibly surprised the fight with Asriel from Undertale wasn’t on here
Every time I fail is a fake game over as it’s always the game messing with me, not my fault.
In God of War: Ragnarok during the first fight with Thor, he knocks out Kratos with the hammer and the game shows 'Game Over' scene. However, Thor uses hammer as a defibrillator to wake Kratos up because the former wants a good fight
What about borderlands 3? It worked on me cus I thought the vault monster was gonna be the end of the game lol so I was expecting a much shorter game
and also the Troy Boss fight gave final boss vibes
@@jotarokujo4727 thats what im talking about that countdown confused me lol
"Do lizards even eat bananas" yes, yes they do. Only should be an occasional treat due to the potassium but they do go for them in a big way
How did you create a video about fake game overs and not include the scarecrow scene from Arkham asylum. That god damn terrified me the first time I played the game
LOL Agreed:P
They've already done that one on this channel. Not to mention it's in like every list about fake out endings
@@Rodrigo-ei4ht the classics are classic for a reason ;)
I think a better slogan would be, "You come at the Kong... you must be hitting THE BONG!!" XD
Is the game good? Finishing a few other games, then its either back to Monster Hunter World or start Jedi FO. Is Kingdom Hearts 3 a good tee up for Jedi FO or should I cleanse my pallet first with a recomondation?
My gaming origin comes from the O.G. Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), though I started on an Atari. And am a huge Star Wars buff. Honest option of the game? I heard this is a"Souls" difficultly, is that true? Have you played Ghosts n' Goblins- NES? Cause that is "Souls" Great Granddaddy. 1 hit your naked next hit you dead.
@@katieblade7083 I'd give it solid 7 out of 10. It's beautiful with simple but engaging story and nice world's
Minuses tho for the lack of open world and the limitation of places you can go, and also characters are just...not very interesting. But it's good fun anyway
Whooops.
If you are already good at Sekisoulsborne games you will probably be okay, but I haven't played them and man did it hurt.
reminiscent of Dark Souls Seath's battle, or Bloodborne bag men.
“Now given my level of skill in this kind of game-”
Me: Sad but true
What about the game over in Kingdom Hearts 3 in the final boss fight it throws you into a game over screen making me think I died for the 15th time.
I forgot about that. I loved the realization that the heartbeat was coming out of the controller speakers
I forgot about this one
Borderlands 3 fake-out cliffhanger. The Calypso Twins bury our heroes beneath a ton of rubble. The game logo appears on the screen, followed by "To be continued in..." and the number 4, clearly setting up a fourth game. But then, with a countdown beep, the 4 becomes a 3, the 3 becomes a 2, the 2... well, you get the idea. The countdown concludes, the heroes escape the rubble and their journey continues.
My personal favorite was Borderlands 3 with the to be continued in 4 - "ending" which ended up being a countdown :D
I was pretty sick of the writing in that game, so when I got to that I basically thought "okay, fine, at least we're done here". I was actually disappointed when the game went on.
I respect you so much for listing the games that you will be discussing at the beginning of the video.
Fun fact: "Hiss" is Swedish for "elevator".
Very close to Finnish as well, from what I heard.
@@penyuwan Yeah, elevator in Finnish is "Hissi"
Borderlands 3 Had you crushed beneath the telekineticly-thrown rubble of an Eridian ruin, only for the obnoxious girl to gain foretold siren powers and remove the debris.
I'm surprised OMORI wasn't on this list. In the goodest ending it throws a fake game over at you which is mildly different from the normal game over, and asks if you wish to continue. Saying no gives you the bad ending, so continuing it is.
I had to click this video to check whether it mentioned Just Shapes and Beats, seeing how it's my special interest and my favorite game of all time. Glad to see we're not completely forgotten!
I miss these videos when andy sat all fancy in the chair. I hooe they can get back to their normal set up soon
"Bad guy tears through fake credit roll" is a pretty classic gag. I've seen it done in games a few other times, Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr Ned being one of them.
how about the one near the end of kingdom hearts 3 where xeanort blasts sora but then donald and goofy call to him and revive him and they all beat xeanort together
The fact that Goofy and Donald call to Sora THROUGH THE PS4 CONTROLLER'S SPEAKER was pretty fucking awesome and blew my mind
I am thankful someone finally mentioned DKC, my mom, cousin, and I play this game every time he sleeps over
The one that popped right into my mind is Futurama the game
Yes. The bloody tutorial gives you a game over. Fml. Lucky fry respawns.
Sekiro will always be the one that got me. That Guardian Ape rising back up after the "Shinobi Execution" popped up. Classic
11:14, he's a pirate king of course.
Also Monkey Island 3 😂 Even the credits start rolling 🤣
Why does Pitt have a seizure when talking to the peoples of the Underworld?
“You know what they say, mess with the Kong, you better not…”
“…treat yourself this winter!”
Hades was actually the best god of them all
“You have to beat the game twice?!” -Angry Video Game Nerd, Ghouls & Ghost Review.
Great video, very sweet.
Borderlands 3...actual to be continued in 4 messages before the psych out and count down. Plus they reinforced it being the last mission by having you say goodbye to crew.
Sonic and the black night literally takes you through an entire end credits then just goes directly to another cut scene
Control is a better Star Wars game than anything EA has produced. Yeah I said it.
100% true. Remedy needs to be hired by EA to make future Star Wars games. Plots will be more interesting, too.
Yes police? I just witnessed a murder.
Borderlands 3, with the fake "to be continued in 4.... 3, 2, 1"
Where’s Batman: Arkham Asylum? When you go into Scarecrow’s nightmare, the joker shoots you and it literally shows the death screen. But it is all on purpose. It honestly fooled me the first time I played it.
For me the “beware spoilers” list is a spoiler for the list so I always skip it lol
No me finding out that I actually didn’t finish Control rn 👁👄👁
I'm playing through Curse of Monkey Island for like the 8th time, and I'm pretty sure it has a fake-out "Sierra" ending, when Guybrush basically dies, even though he's been warned that yes, he will die.
He gets better.
i think i heard somewhere that the only way he can REALLY die in that game is by staying underwater for more than ten minutes.
Hold up. I feel like I’ve seen this video before.
Haha lol
WoW the lichking fight... at one point when arthes is at 10% health, he kills everyone and the game then tells you that you can release your spirit so you can redo the fight again. but if you do not only you miss the rez by bovar , but the chance to get the lichking's mount...
Icarus was Dedalus's son. He died escaping king Minus with Dedalus when his bronze wings broke and he fell into the sea.
reminds me of a takeoff story i read in a magazine...
in that story, Icarus was testing a hang-glider Dedalus had designed, tried to gain too much height too fast, stalled out, and crashed...
@@ericb3157 cool ya i love greek mythology and since they are legends there are many versions so this is just the story i think of
A year after this video came out and I am surprised there was no part 2 or a commenter edition, and even more surprised that the fake ending from WWE '12 was not mentioned, which might be, if I am not wrong, one of the more well known fake endings.
