    I think of General Scales from Star Fox adventures. Near the end of the game it's finally the two of you alone, face to face in a final showdown. The fight starts (it actually really starts) and...at the first attack you throw at him a cutscene breaks in, in wich "some spirit" gets rid of him for you. It turns out at the end that it wasn't exactly to help or save you but still.

      Despite that, I think his boss battle could be more awesome if he actively joins jackenstein to battle player, and calls other experiments and minions to join the party. That would be more satisfying than the disappointing joke ending we got in hammerlock dlc.

BOOM, Martin goes dragon and it's bye bye Dagon. Great victory, especially if you take into account, that he was the LAST LIVING son of the emperor. Great job, lets have Cyrodiil descend into chaos.
      But really, I wish they would have at least given us a bit of the big battle, before Martin does his thing. Like, he needs time to prepare, right? What about General Scales from Starfox Adventures? He's attacking and enslaving the dinosaur tribes all game, tries to kill Krystal, and, when you confront him the first time, Fox just gets captured. And then when you eventually get to the final confrontation, it gears up for a big fight. But as soon as you draw your weapon? Andross interrupts the fight and we don't even see Scales for the remainder of the game as he's... uhhh... defeated off-screen by his minions, I guess? One has his belt at the end, but that's all the hint we get.

    Yeah, Dormin is not the bad guy in Shadow of the Collosus, its actually the humans, the story admit-tingly is up to interpretation but if you analyse the dialogue and scenes from the beginning and end of the game, you will learn the MC's GF was sacrificed by the elder(who ordered MC's death) out of paranoia as she may be the catalyst for Dormin's Resurrection via a prophecy and ... she was but only because MC was against this sacrifice and wanted her back
    So if anything, the story is contrasts more about human ambition and greed than a supernatural force which did not lie about its intentions. Also rather look at the original cut-scenes as the remaster removes some of the facial expressions during cut-scenes that does add to the atmosphere and experience

      @sekomanematjila1910 2 года назад

      @@phantomnite Not really. Define how Dormin is evil? To whom are his actions detrimental to that describes it as evil? Cause you got to remember morality is largely subjective.
      In this context, Dormin is more in the grey area. He gave the MC a choice. He can accept the situation that his gf is dead and avoid a disaster or attempt to resurrect her after she was killed by other people and provoke a disaster. Bear in mind, that the player character is going around killing otherwise non-violent collisi. So, again, the focus is more on how human ambition can provoke evil. With Dormin being Chekov's gun.

      Also, PA has a different personality dynamic since it's centered around a single character (Rob); whether or not you _like_ his persona has a huge impact on your overall view of the channel. In contrast, OX episodes are distributed more evenly around a _team_ of 4+ hosts, which not only adds instant variety but also allows them to interact and bounce off each other in entertaining ways.

    This video reminds me of the trope where you meet the villain several times, and have every appearance of kicking their ass (including a health bar draining to low levels), but then they shout Enough! and walk away, like they just got sick of losing at checkers. Firstly, if they're really powerful enough to freeze me or ignore my attacks, why are they not killing me now? Some games make this a clue that the villain is using you, but then why show up and risk exposing the plan? Secondly, how dare he act high and mighty when I was clearly winning that fight. World of Warcraft had used this trope so much that ENOUGH is now a well established and hated trope, and we all got really excited when Prophet Velen suddenly stepped up and locked a villain down instead of just watching him get away. I'm not talking about slippery villains who always have a backup plan, these are bosses who suddenly knock everyone flat and strut away.

    Kind of disappointed (but not surprised) that El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron wasn't on the list, it's a little obscure.
    It's also all about denying you boss fights. As Enoch you're tasked with defeating and purifying seven fallen angels, only three of which you get a traditional boss fight against. Of the others you have Armaros (where you mostly fight his backup dancers and don't actually get to defeat him, instead later seeing him dragged into darkness to be judged for his action), Arakiel (who died before you got there), and Baraqel (who is eaten by a Fire Nephilim just before you reach him). Then the game culminates into the final battle against Semyaza, the big bad, the leader of the fallen angels, the one who enacted the rebellion that led to their fall... only to find out he *died on impact* from being thrown from Heaven to the Earth thousands of years ago and the 'final boss' is just opening his life support tube and watching his dust scatter.
    Maybe you left out El Shaddai because it takes up more than half the list on its own.

Frequently, I agree with her ….HATE the ending of Red Dead Redemption, Kingdoms of Amalur is a woefully under-credited saga/epic, we were both almost in tears with Aggro's determined (and heartbreaking) struggle to carry on, and such like, …. but the culture I was raised in made me extremely resistant to being outwardly emo about it. Especially so with a video game. BUT, I can just look Ellen up, find where she's played the game-in-question, and let her blubber & slobber to her heart's content. And the most I'm likely to add is a set of moist eyelashes. THANK YOU, ELLEN !!

    On the subject of Yakuza... I was always disappointed Majima doesn't get to fight Sagawa in 0. It's a slightly different situation and by the end I get why, but for most of the game... out of the people you want to punch and expect you'll get to but don't, he's top of the list.

    The Arkham games were a pain for doing this, i'm pretty sure there's one in every game:
    Arkham Asylum- You don't get to fight Riddler and personally smack him in the mouth for making you do all those stupid challenges.
    Arkham City- You don't actually ever get to fight Victor Zsasz for making you turn 180 in the opposite direction for stupid phone calls, you just get him with a simple takedown like any regular henchman.
    Arkham Origins- Electrocutioner.....'nuff said
    Arkham Knight- Despite being left on a huge cliff hanger at the of Arkham City, your fight with Hush is the lamest thing on the planet and ends in about 10 seconds.

      Similar for Scarecrow in Arkham Asylum too. You don't specifically get to fight him one-on-one if I remember rightly. The hallucinogenic dream sequences are amazing, of course, but being denied the opportunity of giving Scarecrow a proper slap rather than just shining a bat-sign in his face after he's been such a threat seems a real missed opportunity.

    How about change the name of the video to _'Six slimeball villains that you did not get to deliver a much needed ass whooping to... but first Dormin, whose villainy is ambiguous at best.'_
    Not as punchy I realise, but somewhat more accurate. Sure you can take Aemon's word that Dormin is evil (you know, the guy that probably murdered Mono to begin with) but I did not witness Dormin doing anything evil (looking evil maybe), I just saw him/her doing exactly what he/she promised.

    • @AFiltiarn
      @AFiltiarn 5 лет назад +4

      🤔 You know what? I don't think Dormin is actually evil and he might just be some fuckin' pagan god that this "Aemon" fellow's church locked up. Hell, if you think about it didn't he save Wanderer's life as well? He even gave him power so he would have a better chance of defeating Aemon!

    • @dracos0024
      @dracos0024 5 лет назад +4

      He tried to murder Emon and his men and had the colossi killed simply so he could get his corporial form back. Plus, he was locked away for crimes that he committed. Also, there's no clear indication that Emon murdered Mono. You say Dormin is not a villain until proven otherwise, but you're applying to opposite mentality for Emon.

    • @ChocolatierRob
      @ChocolatierRob 5 лет назад

      @@dracos0024 The comment about Amon was just because that was what Ellen had claimed about him in the video, as with all things in this game the true facts are always opinion, bias and ambiguity. I've never assumed that Amon killed Mono though I consider it one of the possibilities.
      The only thing that is firmly true about Amon and Dormin is that they are ideologically opposed. I simply do not take Amon's word that Dormin is evil when I have seen no evidence of it in what I have seen Dormin do and say during the game. You say he tried to murder Amon and his men but that was in self defense. You point out that he had the colossi killed to restore himself but so what, they are parts of him, not independent free-willed sapient beings, he is as much restoring them as he is himself. You say he was locked away for crimes committed but there is no proof that this was justified in any other way than religious dogma.
      The rest of the characters in this list are certainly villains opposed to the hero protagonists, Dormin may have had its own agenda but does not seem to be against the hero protagonist (the player) in any way. Wander was prepared to pay whatever price to resurrect Mono and Dormin wanted to be free, they could each help the other get what they wanted and did so.

    • @dracos0024
      @dracos0024 5 лет назад

      @@ChocolatierRob When is it said the colossi are part of Dormin? The black tendrils inside them are, but the same has not been said for the colossi themselves. For all we know, Emon (or whomever locked Dormin away) could've just put parts of Dormin's soul in these already existing creatures.
      The ''self-defense'' argument can also be used for Emon. After all, he's a mortal human up against a godlike being the size of the empire state building.
      Another thing about Dormin is that while he technically kept his promise, he did it in a genie sort of way. Like popular depictions of genies (not the blue Robin Williams kind), Dormin did what was asked of him, but with a twist that basically nullifies the result. Sure, Mono got revived, but she's stuck on an island with her only company being a horse, an infant, and some random birds and lizards, all of which she's gonna have to eat because nowhere else in the game did I see food in the forbidden lands to keep her alive. The only way she can stay alive out there is if she somehow learns how to breed lizards. Otherwise, she's just gonna die again.
      Then there is the case of Wander. Though he was warned about potential consequences, it is safe to say that he wanted to be with Mono again. (regardless of wether they're in a relationship, wether he's her son, or whatever) While Dormin technically allows them to be together, he's an infant and can't possibly enjoy Mono's revival. Long story short, while Dormin kept his promises, the consequences nulify them. So in the end, the deal was really only favoring him.
      A lot about SoTC is subjective, and yes, in a way Emon and Dormin's alignments are as well. But Dormin's behavior is troubling at best. You won't take Emon's word for it that he's evil, and that's fine. But likewise, I won't believe he's not until proven otherwise.

      1) Well maybe not a part of Dormin but powered/animated by parts of his/her essence certainly seems likely but even if they were pre-existing creatures they still don't seem to be more than just (admittedly amazing) creatures whereas Dormin is a thinking sapient being. I'm not evil just because I'm currently eating sausages. (well maybe to a militant vegetarian but that comes back to differing ideologies)
      2) Emon cannot use self defense just because his opponent is bigger. Amon came here to stop Dormin in Dormin's own lands, he is the aggressor. If Dormin were to attack Amon's village then it would be self defense but he/she isn't (yet, if at all).
      3) But how many of those consequences were planned by Dormin and how many were caused by Amon showing up and interfering. It seems to me that Mono being trapped alone there was caused by the sealing spell that Amon puts over the place and who can say what would have happened to Wander if Amon had not tried to kill him and then seal Dormin. Also as for food there is also fish, deer, squirrel, fruits, turtle... Agro.
      4) While Wander may have wanted to be with a revived Mono it is pretty clear that he is prepared to exchange his life for hers if it comes down to it. When you say you are prepared to pay a heavy price for someone to be resurrected you can't then claim _"Oh, I thought you just meant a really _*_big_*_ bag of gold."_ Even as he is getting more corrupted with the more Colossi he kills he still keeps going.
      I love the overall ambiguity of the plot and while I admit that I lean more toward the 'not evil' side I still choose a more or less neutral choice, neither definitely good nor definitely evil. Your choosing 'guilty until proven innocent' is a clear skew in a specific direction.
      Of course the original point of this comment thread was just that Dormin is certainly the odd one out from the characters and situations in this video.
      (Thanks for the debate btw, it's been interesting. Rob)
