- Jasper came to SAFE in April 2021. He's a 14 year old Tennessee Walking Horse gelding. Jasper's extreme anxiety and fear upon arriving at SAFE leads us to believe that he's faced some very rough treatment in his past. Here's SAFE's Operations Director Terry Phelps to introduce Jasper and explain how differently he's being treated at SAFE.

Save a Forgotten Equine is a nonprofit horse rescue located in Redmond, WA. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and retrain horses facing neglect or abuse and provide them with the best opportunity for a permanent home and a lifetime of safety. Since 2005, Save a Forgotten Equine (SAFE) has been rescuing and rehabilitating horses that have been starved, neglected, abused or are unwanted. We have formal agreements in place with Animal Control agencies in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties to support their fight to protect horses in this region. What they do to the Tennessee Walking Horses in order to get that gait they are known for and which is absolutely NOT natural, is atrocious! Someone abused this poor guy and I am so happy he has a good life now where he doesn’t have to be scared anymore and only will feel loving touches and care. 😢❤️❤️❤️

Just now learning of the level of brutality and abuse horses endure in most equestrian "sports". I really had no idea about the insanely abusive practices they have to endure (naive ol me thinking it was just a loving trainer/horse bond). Particularly the scoring and beatings to keep the horses from flinching during inspections... it's just all so disturbing and barbaric. Thank you for rescuing this precious life ❤️
