Why is this considered abuse? A good DQP or VMO will find any anomalies in spite of all the color. Carl is not hurting the horse.........he's making the feet look better for inspection. What's the problem? Even if the color were allowable he still isn't harming this evidently sound calm horse. I guess an actress coloring her hair or having it done before a performance is self-abuse in your opinion? No difference between the horse and the actress. EXCEPT......the horse does not have an opinion. Quick question........do you ask your horse if it wants to carry you bareback or with a saddle on a trail ride bc all those tight straps may be considered abuse by some people?

Not to mention the overal abuse of letting the horse in these stacks for 8 months a year which put very much strain on the hindlegs. That is intentional *cruelty.* Tendons in the *tail* are also *severed* and "tail set" devices used to get the unnatural, raised position, which is desired in competitions. @@lynnejones9785If you knew minimal things about the big lick industry you'd realise how your comment is misguided *in this context spesifically*. I mean you no hate but... Your comment implies you haven't listened to this video and merely observed with your EYES/haven't got much knowledge on this topic yet. (nor do I, I just found this rabbit hole yesterday) I say implies because, ofc, I don't know you, for all I know you're a big lick veteran.
But I politely disagree with your approach here.
If you're interested in what I'm on about...👇
This guy is using just sprays, yes. ....yet he literally mentioned it's to cover the past scars of the process of the 'training'.
The stacks(pad things) are there 24/7 not just for the shows, it forces them to walk in a way that entirely decimates their muscular skeletal systems. By a young age these horses are physically damaged and some even look odd visually.
It's similar to making us walk on our heels at all times whilst also on all fours with acid on our wrists and ankles with chains on to increase the pain so we flick our limbs out in a way that satisfies a different species to us.
Now doesn't that sound absurd 😂
They put chains on after wrapping the lower legs/fetlocks in petrol (yeah that surprised me, perhaps they said diesel) or other caustic/burning substances so when these horses do their infamous gait their leg flicks are from a pain response from the chains whacking their burned fetlocks. Akin to us burning our fingers on the stove and flinching. Apparently.
Yes he's just using sprays. We can ALL see that. But the REST of us realise he is showing how they hide the injuries from past (not seen here) abuse.
I'd advise you to understand the full context before you scold someone else who actually is on the right track.
This torture/abuse or rather at least, discussing/showing aspects of how they hide it from judges. Even with the 'rules' in place it's not going to be painless for their spines and feet.
So does this still sound as trivial as whatever it was you compared it to?
      Again no hate.
I just find this all very interesting topic.
      Take care, internet stranger.

My childhood equestrian club had a black TWH named Jewel. He was a delight to ride, a total gentleman, and he really seemed to like people and especially kids. He needed special shoeing on his front hooves, with a composite pad between the shoe and his hoof. He also had white scars on his lower legs and hair loss just like this horse. Now I understand why! Before my club bought him, his previous owner must have ridden him in the big lick. I sad that such a good horse was abused and I think of him every time I watch your videos. If I could afford to be a horse person I would rescue Tennessee Walkers, they all deserve a normal life.

He was the kind if horse to help give confidence to new riders. Now that I think back his name was Black Diamond. They had a brown TWH named Jewel also, and I don't know his past but both horses wore pads on their front hooves while none of the others did.

He probably was abused from long ago. But I have another comment as well. When people start writing in elementary schools holding a pencil and over the years develop a callous where the pencil rested against a finger from all those years of writing, is that considered abuse? This is a very poor analogy but it does point out that some things are not as bad as they may appear to be at first blush. For the past 30+ years or so, soring has become an abomination within the WH Industry. People within the industry who abuse their stock are shunned and disliked. Our horses have to be clean and sound without a hint of sorness, lost hair or a callous and this is the way it has been for the last 30+ years. Why are you people still bashing using info from close to 50 years ago as well as pure ignorant lies? Performance horses are clean and sound and have to be to get admitted to the showring through stringent inspections by VMO's and DQP's at every show. We in the industry love our big lick horses, the flatshod show horses and the trail horses! They all exhibit the same gaits and soundness in the showring. I truly wish people who are ignorant of the breed, and especially the big lick horse would learn the facts, learn the breed , the training and the rules regarding the showing of this horse. But no.....all of you constantly bash this breed bc you do NOT KNOW the facts. You prefer to condemn good people and the best horse on earth with our ignorant spouting of pure crap!! And a lot of that is mainly bc you don't understand anything about the breed and just love negativity. I, for one, urge you to out your money where your ignorant mouth is and if you personally see any abuse (not an opinion, but real abuse, to report it.........get info such as names, place of occurrence, license plate numbers, etc and REPORT it. We in the WH Industry, especially the big lick folks, would appreciate any help from anyone stopping the abuse in any shape form or fashion of our breed. Out horse is sound and honest. We would appreciate you TWH bashers to please get your facts and educated opinions in order before spouting off and exhibiting constipation of the brain and diarrhea of the mouth.

Soring has been against the law since 1970. Crooked trainers and cheaters will always find a way to cheat. You should not blame all trainers and owners for the intentional evil done to horses by some. Our big lick horses are sound and clean. But we continue to get bashed by people such as yourself that are so uninformed you know nothing of the modern big lick horse. However, I agree with you about the two year olds. I don't think there should be a division for 2 yr olds at all. I agree they are not developed to handle the physical stress that young. However, you could also say the same for racing T-breds. They race 2 yr olds and I think that is detrimental to them. The Walking Horse Industry does a pretty good job of watching out for the safety and health of the big lick and flatshod horses. Many many years ago and I can't remember the year, the industry moved the 3rd gait, the canter, not to be executed in the showring until a horse's 4 yr old year. The junior horses (first year working a canter) had always been in the three yr old year from the very beginning of showing Walking Horses) I wish they would move the 2 yr olds first year under saddle in the showring to their 3 yr old year. However, please get educated first about what you intend to bash. Not doing so makes you not look credible.

Tell you what, if it's so cool, why don't you put big weighted platform shoes & chains on your kids & make them walk around that way so they'll prance pretty? And if soring was made illegal in1970, explain Glimmer & all the products sold to hide the scars from soring? Why isn't part of the inspection to wipe down the pastern & fetlock with a baby wipe & if anything shows up, the horse, trainer & owner are banned for life? I have seen several videos now on what they do to these Tennessee walking horses. It's repulsive and disgusting! I don't see developing any partnership at all with a horse getting down on your hands and knees and covering up the scars of abuse! Partnership and working with the horse correctly begins with developing the bond from the ground up in a riding ring around pen classical training natural training! To artificially make a horse carry their weight on the back end and not correctly develop that is wrong and it will cripple horse before their life expectancy is up! I am just amazed that these horses stand there and not even fight and not even defend themselves against this horrific human behavior! God bless these horses because no one else will! I hope to God that this inhumane Behavior will stop! Rather it's the big wick rather it's saddle seat rather it's five gated horses rather it's horse racing things can be done more humanely and you get a better product! And you have a horse that is developed correctly and has a good longevity! There's no need to wreck a horse before the age of 7 years old! Horses have a long life so we should cherish that and we should respect that and we should embrace that and work with it! They are not digital technology they are living beings just like us and they are on the planet just like us we all have to be here together and we should all work together in a happy safe Humane manner! I know because I rescued my Arabian mare from the saddle seat bar that was highly abusing her and I had her from the age of seven till she passed at the age of 30! And guess what she was doing going second third level dressage at the age of 28 years old! There's more to the story but that's basically it in a very small nutshell! And believe me after We rescued her there was a time that she wanted to kill everybody because of all the pain that she endured from being in that saddle seat Barn! It took over a year for her to trust not only humans but especially women. Because it was the women in the barn who did the most damage! If it wasn't for the farrier the vet and the dentist to provided free services cuz they couldn't stand to see her suffer in pain this horse would have never had a chance and there was a man that was going to buy her because he wanted to sell the horse for meat! After all the torture that's what she was heading for! I stepped in with my mother and we were able to obtain her papers and take her home and give her the life in the career that she deserved and it took a while! Oh so God bless these Tennessee walking horses something needs to be done soon and fast this is carried on too long and too many smooth talking people covering up and telling too many bull crap stories and songs and dances on their soap boxes just so that way I could keep on doing what they're doing which is abusing these Tennessee walking horses change your outlook change the way you work with your horses change the way you show them because there's other things that you can do with them that can make them look wonderful and make them be natural and Pastor life in the career that they deserve in the show right and in the barn and everyday life! These judges that judge these shows there's only one thing I have to say is that I have never seen such shallow-minded people in my whole entire life very narrow tunnel vision! They don't even care what torture these horses go through they just want to see a big show in the big ring that's all they care about is their own self proclaimed satisfaction they don't care about the horse they don't care about the natural gate they don't care about the natural beauty that these horses have and to do something so cool to these sweet loving gentle animals who stand there and take the crap from the judges to the trainers to the Riders to the handlers to the inspection people! I do not know how you people live with yourselves and sleep at night shame on all of you!

There's a rescue group in Tennessee that protest at Big Lick shows. They go to Auctions where horses are sold mainly to what are called Kill Buyers, meaning, people who buy horses to sell for slaughter, for people to eat in other countries. Anyways, Tennessee walking horses end up there at auction when they can no longer perform. They have rescued some. I remember one video on their RUclips channel, I think it was a Tennessee Walker, with a broken leg.

The rescue group is called Horse Plus Humane Society. They rescue other animals as well, dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, even a Salcata tortoise, you name it , they try to rescue it. They also mentor other rescues. Just watched a new video earlier, where they took debt fetal their mentoring to the auction. It had me bawling as usual. They bought a Belgian Draft Mare there. Was so thin, and dehydrated, she laid down, unable to stand any more. They gave her ekectrolytes, an enema to rehydrate her. They got her back on her feet, and by next day on trailer back to the shelter.

What about all the other breeds? Most TWH are retired to the trail or pleasure ranks when they get older, and older in the TWH Industry is 20+ years old. One 6 time Amateur World Grand Champion was 26 years old at the time he won his last Amateur World Championship. Walking Show Horses are in the ring performing longer than any other breed that I know of with maybe the exception of endurance and competitive ride Arabians. They also have a long performing age limit. Big Lick protesters are mostly ignorant of anything about the Big Lick horse. It's just an over 50 yr old lie that has been long laid to rest they are protesting and they don't even realize it. I ask anyone and I mean anyone who sees anyone abusing a TWH big lick or otherwise to speak up not on a stupid TWH bashing forum like this one but to REPORT to authorities with valid, truthful information and not just something another fanatic has passed on to you. If you see it, report it. And that goes for any breed of horse being abused by anyone. But make sure you know what actual abuse is first. Get to know the breed, the people and the education about them.

    • @staceyevans2315
      @staceyevans2315 3 года назад +4

Ice Glimmer isn't in pain. This is just a mock preparation to educate people and show what covering up a horse's feet would look like. It is to teach people to look closer into what people are doing to their horses behind the scenes and not just believe what is on the surface.
The stacks are also still there because his hooves are so malformed, and he has been in them for so long, that he wouldn't be used to having them off, and it would hurt. The stacks are off of him now, but this was before the rehabilitation process.

Read this. It may help your understanding of how far off-base you are with your TWH bashing. The TWH is protected by the federal government and laws are in place to protect it. Maybe you are not current on the laws. You cannot cover scars on a horse as they are palpable and can be felt under the hair. So that is a myth. In fact, rules are that a horse cannot have ANY foreign substance on them at all. NOTHING . Especially before going through inspection. That was just one mistruth in that video. There is and has been an end to this. Years ago. TWH's are the soundest and cleanest horses of all breeds. All this to-ing and fro-ing about the big lick horses being abused and mistreated is just not true. I have been in this industry over 60 years and I know. I know where it was and how far it has come to having a good clean sound horse. Get an education about this great breed and what's the REAL truth. Go to some TWH barns and shows. See for yourself. Ask to ride one. I promise you if you ride one today, you'll own one tomorrow. The TWH bashers are ignorant and live in lies from 30-50 years ago. The violators of the Federal Horse Protection Act are subject to suspensions, huge fines and jail time. Why would anyone EVER break that law and I'm telling you everyone in the WH Industry knows this law and are very careful to comply. EVERYONE knows this except the people who don't.........the sensational seeking TWH bashers with their ignorant opinions. We in the industry love our horses and applaud the riddance of soring and the showing of sound, clean horses. I just will never understand why bashers of any thing or person don't bother to get their facts straight before jumping on that false bandwagon. If you don't like to watch our horse then move on. We are not abusive to our horses and if we were there are serious consequences (thanks to the cheaters and crooks) . The honest people in this industry love this horse and the last thing wanted is any sort of abuse of it.

After spending years wearing stacks you have to reduce the height of the stacks gradually since the horse’s leg tendons and muscles have to have to time to adjust, gain strength, in stages. It would be unbelievably painful and cruel to flat foot him.
