I noted during the biglick arena that the riders do not look natural either. They appear to be sliding off the back end of the horse. This does not look like a comfortable ride to me. The whole concept of biglick is senseless to say the least. Why not wear their fancy riding clothes and saddles and gear and showoff their beautifully groomed and trained horses in their natural gait?

No you are very right. They always did when i was a kid, but looking at them as an adult it does not today it''s a very rough ride. Very, very sad. Hard to watch actually I,d equivocate it to making a woman wear high heals with open blisters or cracked feet. Make a man do this(i mean wear high heals (very high heals with a chain on his foot a sore under it, and I bet this practice would quickly be abolished.

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how this torture even got started. There is absolutely nothing awe inspiring, heart stopping beauty in this picture that should be a work of art!!! The Walker with a natural gate IS awe inspiring, heart stopping beauty work of art to see!!! Something you could stand and watch for hours and still not get enough of.
It is a disgrace and blatant disrespect of their breed to be seen like this!! Wobbling about like they had one to many at the barn before coming in the ring!
Walkers don't wobble, that was why they were in such demand and after having ridden one myself for two hours, I understand this. As I was told, it will be like sitting in your favorite armchair. That was NOT a lie, I did not have a bruised behind the next day as did the others riding different breeds.

Yesterday I watched the Dateline video on RUclips "Walk of Shame" which said that the US Department of Agriculture was now checking all Big Lick shows for any evidence of the abusive Big Lick practices relating to chains, stacks or the use of chemical products to achieve the exaggerated walk of the Bg Lick horse trainers. I hope this is genuinely the case as it would be a major step in achieving a halt to this torture.

Gosh, in watching the Tennessee Walkers do this artificially enforced gait-you can really see why so many of them go into your shelter with back end problems. Watching their rear ends strain under this needless load, is making me cringe. I don’t think I’d actually seen them performing before. Thank you so much for the work that you do in the world, to save and protect horses from abuse.

Thank you so much for explaining to me what was going on. I always thought The Tennessee Walking horse gait was natural. This explains so much to me. I despise this now as much as I despise the docking of a dogs tail and ears or the declawing of a cat. None of the forgoing should ever be done. All are a type of torture in their own way.

Disappointed it was not posted last night, but the episode was worth waiting for. So much information, dread the time the TN Walking part of the episode comes up. Years ago they had a TN Walker show in the Mobile indoor arena and I had no idea how they got the horses to walk/look that way. Now I know and I think of the years this has gone on, such a tragedy.

Yes people have watched and wondered how and why they walked like that. I believe it's been around WWII it started, old school now, actually in the 'olden' days it was not like that. Some kind of bloodthirsty infiltration.

Thank you for bringing awareness to this. I'm not a horse person but as an animal lover and caregiver I can tell the horses are uncomfortable and in pain: the tenseness of all muscles and the tail seems to be more tense. This is not right and these people who grew up with this only need to widen their perspective to see it. Horses are incredible animals and the trend on emotional horsemanship is the right way to go. Keep up the great work!!👌👍🙏💞💞💞💞

@@kathybrant571 If the Arabian horse has the right blood lines they naturally carry their tails up. However there are some Arabian breeders who wil use ginger or another caustic substance to "enhance" the carriage.
