That's exactly the problem. This song shouldn't have been tore up, it should have been sung by someone able to sing it with the laserhigh vocals of FF. Kimball is a fantastic singer, he can't be accused of having made a complete mess out of this song, I also appreciate it that Toto finally played something from Isolation and all that, but if you are a fair commentator, it would have been better with FF. These songs really stuck to one and only one singer. I'm sure hearing FF sing Rosanna etc. also wound sound "strange", and not necessarily in a pleasant way strange.
@Benoit Vanhees Fans wanted to hear Kimball sing songs at this time 🎵 that were done after he left the band in 1983. Also I heard Fergie sing some of Kimballs songs while he was in TOTO. To my surprise, Fergie was better than I expected. There's enough love for everyone. Stop panicking over nothing.

I think the same ! I can hear that song every day I would like to hear it one hour in this version ! That is a TOTO song Joseph Williams isnt able to sing. Joseph Williams voice is very good , too. But some songs like ` Waiting for your love` u will never hear again at a TOTO concert. These songs nobody can sing better than Bobby Kimball 👏👏
While I maintain the highest respect for Bobby and his vocal ability, Freddie was born to sing vocals on the Isolation album. Much better flow at maintaining that high vocal range. It sounds like Bobby is straining and even compensating at certain points. Angel Don't Cry is my favorite from that album.
@@tpokeeffe In fairness, Bobby is about 58 or 59 here and most hard rock singers start to lose a bit of range by this point in their careers. Add to that that most are not professionally vocally trained and rely on raw ability, it is understandable that his vocal chords would have some wear and tear on them. That being said, I actually like his vocals here. They sound gritty, emotional and impactful. Fergie had s voice more in line with the commercial hard rock singers of the 80's. Bobby has a more soulful and looser delivery in terms of how he interprets songs that is more in keeping with his Louisiana roots. At his height, I think Booby was a better singer than Fergie and criminally underrated because of the direction of some of Tito's music while he was with the group. It is perhaps appropriate that he gave this song a whirl on this tour given that he was originally slated to do lead vocals on the album before being fired by the group. Interestingly enough, Bobby counted Fergie as one of his friends and spoke highly of him even after being replaced by him in the group.

I will hand it to Bobby....I listened to the non-autotuned version of this performance and it actually wasn't terrible. Given his throat issues that you can clearly hear he definitely went for it and it wasn't far off from the non-polished version.

Bobby had a great voice when he was younger, but age and years of singing caught up with him. Most singers from the 1970s and 1980s have had to lower the key on their songs as they got older. Billy Joel had this to say about his younger singing voice; "Sometimes I hate that guy".
And over the last several years he has been sliding into dementia. It's official that he has it now, but some of his interviews over the last few years have been bizarre to say the least. Poor guy - I wish him well.

During that tour Byron was reduced to backing vocals after fans booed , his diva like behavior . Byron also called the booing fans racists. Also, there was a video released of that tour. Byron's scenes/singing were cut out of it and he was credited for just background vocals . Byron accused Steve Lukather of the incident and firing him. Lukather said that all was a group decision, and I believe him. I don't agree with Lukather a lot, but I believe him about how Byron destroyed his own tenure in Toto.

With all respect for Kimball, this is a far cry from the incredible power of Frederiksen. Let's remain fair, these songs belonged to Fergie and Fergie alone. Completely the same as with the Foreigner songs that can only be sung by a (young) Lou Gramm. Hearing someone else singing "Urgent" is iconoclasm. I'm surprised to see very few live performances with Frederiksen here on RUclips, what happened, have they been erased like Yes erased Benoit David, a North Korean technique used by a number of bands ? (I can understand that Toto did this with one of their other singers, whose stage acts often were "odd" to remain diplomatic.
We all have our own opinions about who sung what the best and who did this or that but when the Toto online members were polled to whom they thought was the best lead vocalist for Toto they Bobby as number one with Fredericksen languishing at 3rd. Despite Kimball being let go (due to heavy cocaine use, he missed sessions, and they couldn't find him for days and when he did show up he couldn't sing) There are about 4 songs on ISOLATION the band kept Kimballs background vocals and if you listen you can hear him solidly. Mr. Friendly, the title Track >ISOLATION, Holyanna, and Stranger in town. Despite Fergie being brought in to complete that album ., Bobby Kimballs voice is on the background parts of those songs. So for anyone to say , those are Fergie Fredericksen songs 🎵 they are way off and know nothing about Kimballs contributions there. The song Lion the 2nd Track on the album was written by David Paich and Bobby Kimball. If you hadn't heard it , there's a demo version on RUclips of Lion with Kimball singing the song himself. My point and evidence is Kimball has every right to sing songs off of ISOLATION because his voice is on 4 songs 🎵 and the band did start the album with Kimball first. Not Fergie.

Sometimes the less said is more, Bobby did a great job in the live performance above like he always did, Fredrickson was amazing, Isolation one of my favorite albums of all time, that said, you don't have to bash somebody to lift another up, every Toto fan worth a damn knows the history of the band ffs. He did a fantastic job with this song ffs, nobody's going to mimic this nearly impossible song to sing but Bobby kicked ass.
