Toto has had 3 brilliant and one far less brilliant and slightly odd 4th. The 3 winners all had a very specific style and added values. On top of that, the other band members added a many wonderful singing performance too into the cooking pot. What a wealth of talent. Still looking for live recordings with Fergie with a much better quality than the bootlegs here on RUclips.
@@RetroscoopI’m familiar with Kimball, Frederickson, and Williams, but I just now learned about that “weird” 4th one you mentioned. Jean-Michel Byron, wasn’t it?
Joseph Williams is my fave..... but Fergie Frederiksen was the best singer they had! Such a clear voice with true power in every range. "Isolation" is definitely Toto's best album as well. Very consistant in quality, with no bad tracks in my opinion 🙌
@@mccartney2 I like So Fired Up, but I don’t think it beats Isolation. At least for me. I don’t find myself listening to that one compared to Isolation.
Mr. Frederiksen reached very high voice ranges during the songs on the Isolation album. The majestic vocal intensity of him. The power to raise the voice register makes him a brilliant singer.
Isolation is still one of my all-time favorite albums. I got the album when it came out in 1984, and I still listen to it all the time. Toto is definitely one of my all-time favorite bands. I still mourn the death of Jeff (even though it has been 21 years since he died) and I am sad that Mike is afflicted with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease). :(
Endless was originally supposed to be a single, but the record company thought Stranger In Town would be a better single. If Endless or Change Of Heart got released as singles, then there probably would of been videos for those songs.
The biggest reason that fergie dropped out was that he had some kind of muscle sickness, Parkinson or something like that. But I have also read that he didn't perform well in the studio..Strange cause I think he's sounding real good live!!
I’ll tell ya, this is one of my favorite Toto albums. Wish there was more footage of this tour available. And wish they did more work with Ferg. Miss all of the dudes that are no longer here.
Agreed. Fergie was the only front man Toto ever had that looked and sounded like a rock and roll front man. Lukather tries but just doesn't presence or the tenor range. Saw Toto live with Fergie back in 1985, great show.
I would like to read more about why they let Ferige go...I read that he "didn't perform well in the studio". I think Fergie has the typical AOR rock voice of the 80s (like Survivor and Journey)...Kimball's voice is a bit more one-of-a-kind in my opinion. BUT my absolute favorite is Joseph Williams! Just bought the Seventh One album and it ROCKS!
One of the reasons was that he didn’t play well in the studio with the band. But, he also had big issues with stage fright In the studio and live. I read a comment from a guy that said that he used to get so scared that his skin would break out into a rash.
Oh my goodness that it sounds good! Listen up that sweet drum work of dearly missed Jeff and how energetic and effectively and melodic that total stagework is! I wish so much I'd see more from this tour! :)
Toto should be in the RRHoF, if not for their music, for their mullets.... They should make an interactive display of their hair from this period and have the audience push a button to guess the right band member.
I love this video, they are all so happy, even Fergie looks like he´s enjoying himself. It is a total mystery to me ho hear the they had such huge problems with Fergie but the end result is just staggering, best toto album ever? So hard, so beautifully arranged and such a delicate voice of Fergie, even though he lacks some of the passion of Bobby and Joseph
Wow! Now, THIS is rare! Thanks a lot for sharing. Also, thanks for sharing the 1 minute clip of carmen live. Now I can say I've seen a clip from the Isolation tour! :p
Why oh why did'nt they do one more album with Fergie! I'm so sure they would have made it bigger with him, His voice has more of a rock sound to it, plus he had more of a stage presence then poor Bobby did( and I'm a huge Kimball fan!) Ferg used to do backflips and other cool stuff on stage.
Problems performing in the studio and stage fright were two off the reasons why he was dropped. But, if you listen to Could This Be Love, you can hear him on background vocals.
Jeezes three ghosts by now in this clip, how fast time goes... Singer has a Kajagoogoo hairdo, and urkkk guitarist with earrings... Those crazy 1980's... Fortunately the music was far better than the dress code of the members...
@StarBar Hippo Amen to that. The best non related in rock music at least would be Rush I think, Toto second, I haven't decided yet who came third, what about Deep Purple ?
Hey Woschtfett1968, I did not know that about Ferg, I thought Bobby & Joe had the hots for the " WhiteSister " stuff! I remember Luke saying Bobby got that bad he was like a kid in a candy store, It's amazing Bobby's voice was still in top form, Not like Joe's!
@kanemura93 Fergie had big problems with his voice. Luke said (don't know where I found it) that Fergie's voice was good just few times! And Isolation is Toto's hardest album to record it, because that problem of Fergie's voice!
Fergie was my favorite Toto frontman
Mr. Frederiksen's voice was just so CLEAR!!!!! R.I.P.!!!!
fergie's voice was the perfect vehicle for toto's enduring melodicism, no matter the critical disfavor.

Isolation is such a good album. Some of Toto's best work imo.
There’s not a bad track on that album, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s my favorite Toto album.
Mike's bass is so clear here. Perfect playing and sound. Studio perfection even in a sound check.
Mike looks so good with the beard! :) I love Toto, they're the best musician ever!!
I miss working with you Fergie. So glad we had the times we had and interactions with your family. RIP my friend.

The groove that never dies. We love you, always!
Great to see Jeff Porcaro on stage. 👍🙏
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons Toto will always be my favorite band.
A true “band’s BAND”!
Joe will always be my favorite but Fergie was the best vocalist the band ever had!
Ok but dont forget to Steve Lukather as a great toto singer
@@andreaboys No he's not . He's not lead vocalist level IMO.
So many great guys gone too soon... Jeff and now Fergie. And Mike battling ALS. But these guys have achieved a lot.
Kristian Nikander and he's gone now
Wow, great footage from the Isolation era!
Fergie is the best!
Gone too soon Jeff, Mike and Fergie.
Why can't the f''''ng time just stand still.. Please,,, R.I.P.
