The vlog mom with the grieving child, where she is exploiting an extremely sad moment, is so disgusting. I could not even imagine. These kids are props. It's so heartless.
I was in late Middle School when I first started hearing about these family vloggers. I had seen that clip before of the mom asking her kid to cry for the thumbnail, but watching it again now, I feel like every time I see it it feels different as I get older. I'm 20 years old now and that clip just broke my heart. He's saying "mommy I'm actually crying, why won't you help me, I'm so sad I'm actually crying" while she's all like "pose for the camera, do this do that" and blatantly not acknowledging his real emotions in the moment.
Yes! As an autistic adult, it scares me how many young people I've seen have thier diagnosis and details of daily life broadcast for all. I have such a difficult time being percieved in general, and just the thought of being that vulnerable without consent on a regular basis is paralyzing.
Thank you for talking about the Stauffer family as a duo and not just Myka. People put the sole focus on her for a long time and it wasn’t fair her husband got to fade into the background and keep his channel up and stay quiet. He really was just a prop for that “apology” video. Please respect your children as individuals with their own thoughts, feelings and boundaries. You don’t own them, you owe them.
This is so sad! Do your friends have a family blogger channel? I don't understand why people are doing this to their children. Is it just because of the money?
I stopped posting pictures of my children on Facebook for friends and family to see several years ago. I realized that they aren’t consenting to it. Even if they do, at such a young and tender age they can’t possibly do so in a meaningful way. My son is 19 now and thanked me for that restraint and discretion. That’s worth more than anything. Nothing is more important than the relationship between a child and their parents. That trust is the foundation for all other trusting relationships yet to come for our kids. And their online identity should 100% belong to them.
but how else are they gonna get those sweet, sweet likes? I post photos of myself with my boyfriend and get 3 likes. My cousin posts photos of her kids (literal babies) and gets 50 likes
I have enough retroactive embarrassment from how cringe I was as a young teenager, so I can’t even imagine if there were a video record of that time publicly available for everyone to see forever. 😬
This video is so refreshing to see. As a mom of 2 kids, I deleted my social media when I was pregnant with #2. My husband posted maybe 2 pics of our youngest but hasn't updated their pic for almost 2 years and we tell grandparents to keep our children's photos off of their social media. If my oldest says they don't want to be on a video call with family I do my absolute best to make sure I don't show them. The little one loves video calls but if they walk away or say bye bye I stop showing them as well. My children deserve privacy. Even my husband said he was always angry when his mom would just share his business to family through talking when he was younger. It does affect children. Keep their stuff private people.
I absolutely hate family vloggers, its exploitative and I’m pretty sure it pushes child labour laws! I think it’s abusive and people should not be allowed to profit off of their children! Compensation is not enough at all and I completely agree with you! Also I would absolutely watch your 5 million hour vlog essay 😂❤
I was a young teen in the early 70s when the first nationally televised family reality program was televisioned. Everyone was talking about it including my school friends. Newspapers, magazines, and the nightly news reported on the family. My Mom would not allow me to watch the program. I tried to argue but was closed down immediately. She told me that it was obscene to "expose" children and it was "none of our business". When 60 Minutes did a segment on the family she turned the tv off after they announced that the show would be featured. She was angry that they showed a white, wealthy, two-parent family (Dad worked. Mom stayed home.) with a bunch of kids as being "typically American". These family vloggers are exponentially worse.
Oh my goodness! I remember that show. I was a teen, too. There was a dark-haired more sophisticated older sibling, I believe. She was the one people sexualized. The parents ended up getting a divorce, I think. Everyone had judgments about these people. Sounds like your mother was wise. I come from an African American background. The point pundits kept making is that the people were actually upper-middle class. So they were not socio-economically representative of Americans of any race.
I hadn't seen that woman forcing her grieving son to 'cry' over his dead dog. Appalling! Its like the people who give their children puppies, then laugh and keep filming as the child is overcome with big feelings without being held to comfort them. Thank god you are exposing this. And the families with huge numbers of children all cooking, cleaning, gardening, homeschooled and praying. Oh, please! Throw the camera out the window and be present for your children. We have all seen parents on outings with their noses in their phones while the child says...'Mummy, look at me. Dad, look what I can do'. Children need their parents present and compassionate not predatory and grifting from their children. Thanks, Ashley. I am blocking different vloggers who I won't name but who are so popular as they show their vulnerable toddlers, totally supportive husbands, and their body make overs after being pregnant, to all appear fabulous.I am all for cat videos, dog rescues, kind horse owners, and gardening. I feel liberated, as I was spiralling down the rabbit hole. Finding a like-minded thinker has helped me so much, so thanks again, Ashley. Now, funny cat videos...where are they?
“children should never work for their money” yes YES! you’re absolutely right and this is such an important point which many just tend to forget about because it seems like children are happy to be a part of their parents’ content but we can’t see the real truth in most of those situations thank u for bringing up this topic! do love your videos and wish u everything the best!❤️🩹
Yup and they’re not only working for their money, but also the parents money. Bc what do you mean the family vlogging channel where the kids are the stars allows you to be able to purchase a luxury bag? What good is that going to do for the child??
My mom never posted pics of me outside of private socials (as far as I know) but she would take WAY too many photos and force me to smile and look „beautiful enough“ for a damn photo. One time I was eating pizza (cause I came home after school and was hungry) and I was like maybe a tween or smth and she took out her phone and started filming me and fatshaming me while laughing and I felt so humiliated.. idk why she would film me randomly especially in such humiliating ways but I hope she never posted these online :// like imagine treating ur child like a content.. and post it online??? Like this is a HUMAN BEING
Sadly, some kids who act professionally aren’t protected off set either if their parents are as exploitative as the studios. Jennette McCurdy’s memoir ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ is a chilling read
That’s gross ! What I cannot understand is when they come back after scandals with an apology video as if nothing happened, and people keep following them
I always click "Not interested in this channel" whenever is a video of a kid. That "I didn't poop, I peed" video did it for me. I felt like the baby was exposed to the world in his most intimate and personal moment. It's up to the parents to protect thier kids from the world not to do the opposite.
Parents are suppose to protect theyre children not expose them! They are already vulnerable ,theres enough coming after the children already, its extremely sad! The enemy of our soul is already after the children in other ways, Parents WAKE UP from your slumber! Its all so upsetting
Coming from someone in their 30s with 4 kids, I cried and hid under my bed when my mom told my dad when I get my first period. He asked if we should buy a cake😂🤦🏼♀️ I’d be mortified if she announced it to the world. My mom actually had a habit of telling her friends about some of my business, just medical stuff, etc. I remember I was always devastated and humiliated. So I can’t imagine what it would be like to have the entire world, seeing something or my friends and peers in the classmates. If I was upset that my mom was just telling her friends and family members. 😢 these poor kids. As mentioned, I have 4 kids and I rarely post anything about them, but if I do, it’s a handful of pictures every so often on Facebook for long distance family to see. But it’s always days or weeks after the event and I never post specifics.
And by the way, my kids have BEGGED me to do RUclips so we could “get rich”. They don’t understand why I won’t even try. I hope in the future they understand as much as being a single mom with medical issues and a child with special needs I’d rather keep them safe. I’m going to protect them. It’s my job.
This is just abuse at this point why do people feel the need to blast the privacy of their children's lives to complete strangers online? These parents are all incredibly selfish smh. 🤦🏽♀️
I wasnt aware of this until today. What a sad time when parents are putting on this platform. It is close to criminal. Children need to be protected not exploited. Thank you, Ashley for addressing this issue.
I think social media in general. My sister is forever posting on FB. My nephew gets tired of posing for pictures. We have to stop being so in to how things "look".
Hard agree. I have a friend who ever since she was a preteen her mom made her Facebook all about her daughter. Her profile picture was the teen daughter, and she posts only pictures of the daughter. She takes several paparazzi-like candid pictures of her and uploads them. Tbh it looks like she’s actually pretending to be the daughter on FB, it’s creepy.
It's so awful. I can't believe these parents. There are channels like House of Hughes and Phil and Alex that upload videos regarding their child's medical issues. Then there are channels like Abbey Fickley that sexualize their children knowing about predators. The whole thing needs to be shut down. Period.
Didn’t even who abbey fickley was but I posted a comment something like why would you post a thirst trap video with your child in it……the amount of hate I got….the delusion was unbelievable it’s gross to put your children in videos like that.
@@hellobaby5112 her child supporters are savage. And she signals to people who have or are struggling with addiction, so they blindly support her too. I've given up trying to get people to wake up on her comment threads. It's like hitting your head on a wall. She started deleting my comments anyway so she does not care about how dangerous she is being
Amazing video as always, Ashley! Absolutely wild. I watch a few mom youtube channels, but they either dont ever or very rarely have their kids in the videos, and they’re not the focus of the channel. Like one I watch, her kids are in them occasionally when she’s talking about family meals. The kids will sometimes cook, things like that. And she documents the family’s life sometimes but again without the focus being the kids. And another, she does a lot of mom content, but her kids are never in the videos. She may share their reactions to products she’s testing or that they’re testing, but that’s it. And that’s how it should be. Not shoving a camera in your child’s face and coaching them how to react for the camera after their pet has died. And don’t even get me started on the ones with the adoptions 🤬
I love your videos and I cannot wait to see your future ones! You bring important subjects like this to light and discuss them. I appreciate you bringing awareness to this ❤ I love binging your videos during my day! Have an amazing one!! ❤️❤️
I will forever say I am glad my mom was a mom of the 80s. Everything that happened during my childhood wasn't the best but I wasn't a prop and I will forever be grateful to my mother! I stopped watching a lot of content but I especially stopped watching content that involved children and animals. There are some cute videos of kids and animals but I just can't when its a vlog style. There are some things I don't need to know especially about a stranger.
I just don't understand why is it legal for minors to be online. Just to posting photos or videos of children, even if their own parents does, should be iligal, because they can't consent about posting that.
I got looped into a bunch of those channels about 5 years ago because i loved the grocery haul videos. Then I watched one where the mom tried to do a sponsored ad that was for a deodorant and the mom tried to loop one kid into a bathroom to discuss puberty and deodorant and the poor kid looked mortified but also terrified to disobey the mom. I unfollowed all of them. my kids started watching some of these channels that are targeted to kids - a family blog where the kids are the main characters and they get into scripted "adventures". They're horrifying, especially since my 6 year old thought the videos were real and tried to act out adventures like "prank day" etc. I explained to the older kids that this is exploitation and the kids don't get paid and sometimes the kids are abused and they have pressured the younger kids to stop watching those channels.
Family vlogging MUST stop. How can a vlogger Mom call herself a mother and show her kids on camera for all and sundry to watch. There's this Mommy vlogger (I hesitate to mention the name, lest there's a spike in her channel viewership) where her kids were heard on camera that they don't wish to be filmed but continue to appear in the vlogs. These kids have no privacy having been filmed since the day they were born. Also, it is very sad to see a couple of the kids have speech issues, but they are filmed, nonetheless. Thank you for raising this issue. I only hope the law is passed to ban family vloggers exploiting their children on camera for views asap. If viewers stop watching and subscribing to family channels, maybe parents will take their children off social media. A new Sub here.
I don't even post my babie's face on socials. It's NOT fair to share their lives without their consent. Predators, digital footprints, data farming, future college and career opportunities... the list goes on and on. I pray there are even more protection regulations as time goes on 😢
I totally agree with all of your points! Kids cannot consent to being filmed! I don’t care how often these family vlogging parents say “I ask my kid for permission”, it doesn’t matter. It is well established that kids cannot conceptualize the ramifications of things they do years down the line. And I highly doubt their parents warn them that what they post today will follow them for the rest of their lives. I doubt they explain that pedos and creepy people have access to everything that is posted about them. Plus, think about what they’re being asked. As a kid, you know mommy and daddy make lots of money off of videos of you. You go on fun trips, get lots of toys, and you’re a star! What kid doesn’t want to be a star? If you say no, that might mean no more fun trips, no more cool toys, and no more stardom. Mom and dad have to get regular jobs, and you’ll be disappointing them. The last thing on their minds would be how this would negatively impact them 5, 10 years down the line. I was so blessed to grow up with a father who recorded all of our milestones and family moments. We have VHS tapes and photo albums full of memories we can look back on as a family. None of these are on the internet. If I, as an adult knowledgeable and understanding of the pros and cons, want to now curate and post these things I approve of online, I can. And Lord knows there are videos and pictures I would not want the world to see. These children do not have that choice. Their parents made the choice to sell their children’s privacy for fame and fortune. Their parents are the ones who should be protecting them, yet they did the opposite.
Wow, that was interesting info. I never really thought that deep about the consequences that come along with including your child in a vlog. It's really messed up when you think about it. And of course nobody cared about how the kids felt about it.
There’s a Brazilian RUclipsr (which I prefer not to say her name) that was pregnant, has a miscarriage, baby had no heartbeat. Doctors gave her a pill that would force her body to push the fetus out. She went home, took the pill, went to her bathtub and FILMED everything and posted here on RUclips 😰 she even showed the dead fetus on a jar after he came out. After that her, her husband and 3 other kids went to their backyard all dressed in black clothes and buried the fetus. It was one of the most weird things I’ve ever seen 😵💫😵💫😵💫
Oh my goodness every time someone references that mom who makes her kid pose for the thumbnail of the video when the dog died I feel like I'm in an alternate reality. Seen it all over again makes me want to barf. All I ever think is, "That poor kid!" Ugh these oversharing family channels need to stop! We don't need to know that your kid just got dumped or got their first period or failed their tryouts or any of that. I can't even imagine being the child of a channel like this.
I am so glad to see this issue getting attention, and this video is so well done. I've always been super uncomfortable seeing personal content of other people's kids and although I'm not a content creator, I've always asked my child for permission before I post a picture of them on Facebook (and when they were too young to understand what this meant, I simple didn't post anything). Any Facebook reel or youtube content that has a child in it, I immediately skip right over. All the RUclipsrs I follow are the type of creators that keep their kids totally off camera. Children aren't getting the autonomy and privacy they deserve, and I think some of the clips you show highlight how wrong this is.
I'm so glad I had boomer parents who didn't use social media. I am terrified for the children of my former friends whom have been posted without their consent and knowledge for only their parents' benefit, either for clout or money or simply attention.
Ngl the thought of hundreds of people I don't know sharing my kids life is weird and scary to me. I had such a tough time even sharing baby pics of her on my "private" FB for family. My little cousin was allowed to have an Insta at 12 (or younger?) and I saw two GROWN ASS MEN following her alongside her other minor friends. Children should not be on SM unless there are vetted, separate sites specifically for them. Dating apps and other apps make you vet so kids sites should too.
If I was famous with kids, I will never show people my kids face to protect them. I wish my dad told me that who people would act rude to me because he had a business in philly. I suffered a lot with panic attack. I luckily healed when I moved FL.
Right? Look at how some celebrities go through crap just to keep their kids' faces out of the press and socials while these online characters just post everything
Wanting to share what day to day parenting is, is not the worst. I think it has the ability to help people know what having kids is like. My daughter also got rush to the hospital, and I never once put my phone in her face. Family vloggers are insane.
it doesn’t take a genius to know the ramifications of posting your children’s private info online. it does not need to be studied for us to understand this
I once saw a video of a mom doing “things i never thought id have to say as an adult” thing where she reenacted funny things she had to tell her kids. At first it was okay but then it kept getting more uncomfortable, i brushed it off until one of them was “No you can’t use your vagina as a pocket!” I unsubscribed right then and there. What gave her the right to share that embarrassing info about a LITTLE (and i mean LITTLE like less than 7) girl?
I was disgusted when I saw the mom directing the kid how to cry. She should be comforting him, but instead she tells him how to cry to make it look good on camera.
My kids ask to be on tiktok and I'm like no. Fb videos and photos for family I used to do but I don't even have fb anymore. It's not fair the world knowing every detail of my kids lives. They can't concent to it, even if they say yes, a lot of them will regret it. It's so sad.
I really liked the RUclipsr raven elyse but as cute as she and her daughter are I couldn’t shake the feeling that she was exploiting her child as a mommy influencer. Same with Nicole Guerrero after she gave birth. It’s always disappointing when a normal RUclipsr turns into a mommy RUclipsr like I didn’t follow you to watch you exploit your kid for content.
There is a different family channel that made my heart hurt as much as the fake cry one. She tried to make her daughter give her a kiss, but the daughter didn’t want to and she seemed annoyed with the daughter! This is insane. What happens when these kids get older and aren’t their cash cows anymore?
Family channels are also tend to fail because they let money and fame get in the way of their relationship. Most of them use their kids for clout. The only family i keep up is The Rush fam,no family channel has made me feel interested to watch their content.
I’m also not sure about adopting children from different countries. It must be unsettling to change families and countries/cultures, especially as these parents seem to be doing it with the child being a ‘fashion accessory’. If the communities in these areas are struggling, I feel like there must be a better way of supporting the community as a whole, rather than plucking one of the children away from everything that is remotely familiar to them.
Woooooo! BLACK BELT BABE SAID STAAAHHHP IT ALREADY! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 I LOVE her! If I had a Tik Tok I'd follow her, lol. If she made a YT channel, you and her should collab! Hope you had a nice weekend Ashley! 🌼 I love your top. I found your channel a few weeks ago and have been making my way through your vids!😄
I think it's ✨possible✨ to create mom centric content without showing children or exploiting their personal/private lives...you just dont make millions of dollars doing it so we dont ever see it
There is only about Three channels I watch that have their kids in the video, those channels don't always have their kids in the spot light and don't make them say or do things that would hurt them. Also certain personal things about the kids they don't tell anyone on video because they feel it should be private, now I can't say that for some others I have seen.
That video of the mom trying to script her child's crying was so upsetting to me, that poor kid. This is so, so harmful to children...

I have enough retroactive embarrassment from how cringe I was as a young teenager, so I can’t even imagine if there were a video record of that time publicly available for everyone to see forever. 😬
It's so disturbing how some people try to blow up on social media on the backs of their children, absolutely disgusting.
Now, funny cat videos...where are they?
wow that tiktoker you featured 'blackbeltbabe' spoke with so much power and conviction it was seriously inspiring!! thanks for sharing!
“children should never work for their money”
yes
YES! you’re absolutely right and this is such an important point which many just tend to forget about because it seems like children are happy to be a part of their parents’ content but we can’t see the real truth in most of those situations
thank u for bringing up this topic! do love your videos and wish u everything the best!❤️🩹
Yup and they’re not only working for their money, but also the parents money. Bc what do you mean the family vlogging channel where the kids are the stars allows you to be able to purchase a luxury bag? What good is that going to do for the child??
Family vlogging is like a microcosm of what TLC was doing for a little while in the 00's.
Like this is a HUMAN BEING
Yeah I have social media. In order to know I even have kids you have to know me. My pages look like I'm a single childfree woman. 😂😂😂
Sadly, some kids who act professionally aren’t protected off set either if their parents are as exploitative as the studios. Jennette McCurdy’s memoir ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ is a chilling read
I feel bad for these children, because they don’t get a say or voice in any other their parents selfish and stupid decisions.
That’s gross ! What I cannot understand is when they come back after scandals with an apology video as if nothing happened, and people keep following them
These parents are exhibiting unhinged behavior
I always click "Not interested in this channel" whenever is a video of a kid. That "I didn't poop, I peed" video did it for me. I felt like the baby was exposed to the world in his most intimate and personal moment. It's up to the parents to protect thier kids from the world not to do the opposite.
Parents are suppose to protect theyre children not expose them! They are already vulnerable ,theres enough coming after the children already, its extremely sad! The enemy of our soul is already after the children in other ways, Parents WAKE UP from your slumber! Its all so upsetting
Thanks for talking about this its so important to stop the exploitation of children online
But, they don’t put all they shut out there.
The laws will be changing soon after this Tic-Toc mess and A.I.
This is why I’m changing the direction of my channel I don’t want to show my kids or family when I have them
The people who watch these family vlog channels are just as bad; literally supporting them with views.
Im so happy to see these horrible people being outed as the child abusers they really are. Thank you
It's so awful.
She started deleting my comments anyway so she does not care about how dangerous she is being
@@Maddison_77732 yeah it’s just crazy and creepy a mom would do that to her child. And people celebrate this.
Thank you so much so glad you found my channel! ❤️

To Narcissist parents, their children are just resources to be exploited in every imaginable way. Not people.
Sam and Nia. Sam actually admitted he was a narcissist.
This is why I don’t watch these channels and I don’t like any content with children, even if it seems cute and genuine.
Ain’t no way!! I was pissed when my mom told my dad I got my period let alone the whole world?!?! No ma’am!!
Love the honesty on your channel.
That's just flat out wrong, unacceptable and a huge invasion of privacy
Eeew, the two characters, who chose to no longer adopt because they wouldn't be allowed to film the adopted child, are truly vile
@@aesinam That is messed up
That front fold with your head down is my new goal. 💯
What "ramifications" could you not know exist?? Lol like who needs to be told NOT to showcase their children to strangers??
I clicked this video so fast! Love your takes!
Family vlogs always looked so fake … people have become so greedy… so sick!!!!
Fun fun pack just pop out number 8 for views 😢
Wanting to share what day to day parenting is, is not the worst. I think it has the ability to help people know what having kids is like. My daughter also got rush to the hospital, and I never once put my phone in her face. Family vloggers are insane.
It’s the worst when it involves a child who it affects their entire life
it doesn’t take a genius to know the ramifications of posting your children’s private info online. it does not need to be studied for us to understand this
I'm shocked ... Thank you!
I'm a vlogger and reviewer and I will NEVER post my children!!! And by the way, adoption is child trafficking. 💯
8:46 she gave us a trigger warning yet I still wasn't prepared for that RUBY FRANKE JUMP SCARE oh my goodness
she looks like a predator when it sees its prey
I once saw a video of a mom doing “things i never thought id have to say as an adult” thing where she reenacted funny things she had to tell her kids. At first it was okay but then it kept getting more uncomfortable, i brushed it off until one of them was “No you can’t use your vagina as a pocket!”
I unsubscribed right then and there. What gave her the right to share that embarrassing info about a LITTLE (and i mean LITTLE like less than 7) girl?
Omg the mom forcing her son to make a crying face for the video 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
THANK YOU! Subscribed.
I was disgusted when I saw the mom directing the kid how to cry. She should be comforting him, but instead she tells him how to cry to make it look good on camera.
This is infuriating. I can’t believe parents are still doing this. Outta be a law.
That Jordan Cheyenne clip... 🤯 Woooooooow.
My kids ask to be on tiktok and I'm like no. Fb videos and photos for family I used to do but I don't even have fb anymore. It's not fair the world knowing every detail of my kids lives. They can't concent to it, even if they say yes, a lot of them will regret it. It's so sad.
10:09 I am SHOCKED, a mom treating her kid like a performing actor! This is disturbing.
These people are sick!!!
There is a different family channel that made my heart hurt as much as the fake cry one. She tried to make her daughter give her a kiss, but the daughter didn’t want to and she seemed annoyed with the daughter!
This is insane.
What happens when these kids get older and aren’t their cash cows anymore?
It should be illegal
I hope it is illegal someday
I feel physically sick from that video of the boy crying. She shouldnt be a mum, she doesn't deserve kids. That broke me.
I think it's ✨possible✨ to create mom centric content without showing children or exploiting their personal/private lives...you just dont make millions of dollars doing it so we dont ever see it
“…or are you just a loser?” DAMN
I can't believe you had a pron star as the first family vlogger 🤣🤣🤣
AGREE!! I do like the Holderness family tho.
There is only about Three channels I watch that have their kids in the video, those channels don't always have their kids in the spot light and don't make them say or do things that would hurt them. Also certain personal things about the kids they don't tell anyone on video because they feel it should be private, now I can't say that for some others I have seen.
Amazing vid ✨
So disgusting 🤢
